Ahead of Memorial Day weekend, Ticket Stubs heads to the front lines with a towering double feature of modern war epics: Steven Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan (1998) and Terrence Malick's The Thin Red Line (1998). Though released within months of one another, the two films approach warfare from radically different angles: one through visceral spectacle and brotherhood under fire, the other through meditative existential reflection and the fragile relationship between man and nature. Join us as we examine how these companion pieces helped redefine the modern war film while wrestling with memory, sacrifice, violence, and the impossibility of making sense of the defining conflict of the 20th century. Before storming the beaches and wandering the tall grass, our Blue Plate Special returns with a fresh batch of cinematic chatter. This time around, we share thoughts on a slate of recent releases, including Maggie Gyllenhaal's long-awaited The Bride!, Lee Cronin's new take on The Mummy, the mysterious romantic drama The Drama, the music-fueled fever dream Mother Mary, and the psychological horror thriller Obsession. Whether you're spending Memorial Day revisiting war movie classics or simply looking for a thoughtful cinematic pairing to kick off the summer season, we're glad to have you with us. As always, please like, subscribe, rate, and review us on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, and wherever else you listen! Got thoughts or questions? Email us at huffmanbrothersproductions@gmail.com.

The podcast continues its spring season theater coverage this week! The hotly anticipated play from writer Lindsey Ferrentino, The Fear of 13, opened last week on Broadway at the James Earl Jones Theatre. Adapted from a documentary of the same name, the play is a semi-fictionalized depiction of the real-life events of Nick Yarris, a man who was wrongfully accused and convicted of rape and murder, and spent 22 years imprisoned, before finally being exonerated by DNA evidence. Two seasoned actors, Adrien Brody and Tessa Thompson, bring this story to life, with Brody in the role of Yarris and Thompson playing a prison volunteer with whom he falls in love. For both actors, this was their Broadway debut, and they sat down with Senior Editor of Features and News, Marley Marius, to talk about it. They talk about the theater rituals and also the nerves that go into performing this work. “I've had a lot of trepidation if I'm going to be honest,” Brody said of telling Yarris' story, “just because of the enormity of the task.” They spoke about how this story is not only the story of Yarris, but an unfortunately relatable tale for so many folks in America who have family and loved ones in the carceral system. The pair reflected on the immense obligation of telling a real and alive person's story. Yarris, now a free man, has been highly instrumental in the rehearsal process, attending table reads and performances alike. He also joined the pair on the red carpet for opening night. When it comes to this kind of work “whether they're in the room or not, they are in the room,” Thompson explained, “So then when they're literally in the room, it's a completely different thing.” Crucial to Yarris' experience in prison was his love of reading, a love so strong he referred to it as an addiction to books. Thompson, in an homage to her character Jacki who is a PhD candidate in poetry, has created a little library of books in her dressing room. There, she keeps several volumes of Charles Simic poetry and has also been known to read Mary Oliver and Nabokov's Lolita (a problematic fav of hers).  When they aren't in rehearsal or performances, Brody and Thompson have pretty distinct approaches to how they spend their time. Brody, a homebody and true multi-hyphenate, busies himself making music—or “beats” as Thompson fondly refers to them—and cooking sweet potato stews. Thompson, on the other hand, is looking forward to having a bit more free time now to see other shows on this season and find the little speakeasies tucked in and around the theater district. The Run-Through with Vogue is your go-to podcast where fashion meets culture. In this episode of Half Hour, we take a deeper dive into the Broadway production of The Fear of 13 at the James Earl Jones Theatre, written by Lindsey Ferrentino and directed by David Cromer. We break down how the original documentary has been reshaped into a theatrical experience, and what is gained when Nick Yarris's story of wrongful conviction and years on death row is told live onstage. We talk through Adrien Brody's performance as Nick and Tessa Thompson's work as Jacki, along with contributions from Ephraim Sykes and the ensemble, and how their choices shape the evening's emotional impact. We also examine Cromer's pacing, the production's minimalist set and symbolic lighting, and how music and sound design reinforce themes of justice, systemic failure, and the human cost of the appeals process. Finally, we consider The Fear of 13's partnership with criminal justice advocates, its relevance to ongoing conversations about wrongful convictions, and where we see this production landing in the Tony Awards conversation this season.  Follow and connect with all things @HalfHourPodcast on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. May we resolve to live not by lies, political correctness, wokeness, or ‘repressive tolerance‘ by any name. May we live by the Truth alone, and may God have mercy on us. Political correctness is communist propaganda writ small. In my study of communist societies, I came to the conclusion that the purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, nor to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better. When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies is to co-operate with evil, and in some small way to become evil oneself. One’s standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed. A society of emasculated liars is easy to control. I think if you examine political correctness, it has the same effect and is intended to. — Theodore Dalrymple (Anthony Daniels) Frontpage Magazine interview (August 31, 2005) But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, [even] in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. — Romans 10:8-13 KJV Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. — John 14:6 KJV Links Videos / Clips [x] = Played Triggered! A measured sigh of relief spread across the world this week after a ceasefire was announced in the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran. Still, the prospect of a sustained peace feels elusive. Christiane gets the view from a close European neighbour, Greece, with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. Then, as Iran and the U.S. prepare for negotiations in Pakistan, is America's strategy in the war working? Christiane hears from Iran experts Ray Takeyh and Suzanne Maloney. Plus, Professor of Global Studies at the University of Tehran Sasan Karimi give Christiane the view from inside Iran. Then, a portrait of American injustice takes center stage in Broadway with "The Fear of 13", dramatizing the life of Nick Yarris who served two decades in prison for a crime he did not commit. Christiane speaks to lead actor Adrien Brody and playwright Lindsey Ferrentino. Plus, as the U.S. embargo on Cuba grinds life in the island to a halt, Christiane's 1998 report from Havana on how decades of sanctions have impacted the most vulnerable there. And finally, as the Artemis II crew make their way back to Earth, a look back at Christiane's conversation with astronaut Michael Collins on his own journey to the moon.Air date: April 11, 2026Guests:Kyriakos MitsotakisSuzanne Maloney & Ray TakeyhSasan KarimiAdrien Brody & Lindsey Ferrentino Learn more about your ad choices. Five weeks into the U.S.-Israel war with Iran, U.S. President Donald Trump's first address to the nation left lots of questioned unanswered, including how the U.S. plans to end the conflict. Retired Admiral John Kirby held top communications roles at the Pentagon, National SecurityCouncil and White House and he joins the show to discuss where the war goes next. Meantime, Russia's war on Ukraine grinds on, amid mounting fears that weapons Ukraine badly needs are being diverted to the Middle East. Former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba speaks to Christiane about the impact of that, and of President Trump's falling out with NATO powers. Then, the energy crisis in Cuba is growing more severe with every passing day, as the country struggles under the Trump administration's oil blockade. CNN's Patrick Oppmann speaks exclusively with the grandson of the late Cuban dictator Fidel Castro, who believes Havana needs to make a deal with Trump. Plus, Christiane's conversation with former White House Iran aide Gary Sick, who served in the U.S. National Security Council under Presidents Ford, Carter and Reagan. He tells Christiane why he sees Trump as a deal maker, not a history maker. And from the archive, a look back at the long fight for change in Iran. An excerpt from Christiane's report from Tehran in 2000, when the reform phase was at its height. And finally, a sneak peek at Christiane's conversation with award-winning actor Adrien Brody. He joins Christiane alongside playwright Lindsey Ferrentino to discuss their new Broadway play "The Fear of 13." NOBODY AGAINST PUTIN, eine weitere Doku namens THE LAST SACRIFICE und DIE BERUFUNG. Und damit wären wir auch schon wieder durch für heute, weshalb wir Euch nun viel Spaß und ein schönes Restwochenende wünschen. Bleibt so gesund wie gut drauf und weiterhin auf der Gewinnerseite. Eight years after producer Robert Rodriguez had Adrien Brody went and fought the Predator -and Predator dogs, and bigger Predators, and Lawrence Fishburne- original Predator co-star Shane Black decided to take the reigns and see if he could make something a little more universally successful. The result, 2018's The Predator. Yet, once again, 20th Century Fox stepped in and decided to make life a living hell for all involved. Scenes were switched, a friend of Black's had a small scene cut due to Olivia Munn finding out the other man in the scene -who was also a friend of Black's- had a checkered past. And the ending ended up getting completely reworked. So what do Garrett, Matt, and Adam have to say? This, was the podcast Matt and Garrett had been looking forward to since they started this series due to Adam once again having reservations to watching a movie in a franchise again due to an utter hatred for the film. It happened with Alien Covenant. Yet, unlike that 2017 film, Adam hadn't finished watching The Predator until this viewing. Did he warm up to it? Three Men and a Retrospective Podcast

After a set of Alien vs Predator films that failed to ignite any sort of passion from a hugely passionate set of fan bases, the pressure was on producer Robert Rodriguez to make a film that at least satisfy the Predator fan base. So after finally getting the green light to produce a script he'd started back in the mid 90s, Rodriguez found himself doing what he'd been wanting to do his entire career, which was make a Predator film. But by the late 2000s, Rodriguez was also a very busy producer. He had had just made the flop Grindhouse with his buddy Quentin Tarantino, and was directing a spinoff from said flop called Machette. So he cast recent Oscar winner Adrien Brody in the lead and put Nimrod Antal (Frequency) in the director's chair for the passion project of all passion projects. The result was a 2010 film that was once again heaped with mixed reviews upon release, with some calling it a return to Predator glory and others calling it a mediocre misfire. Where do the co-hosts stand? This week, we sit down with the wildly accomplished Patrick Doyle, a veteran camera and Steadicam operator with more than 30 years of experience working across the TV and motion picture industry. Pat has collaborated with some of the biggest studios in the world—MGM, Disney, 20th Century Fox, NBC Universal, Warner Bros, A&E, Sony Entertainment, Hallmark—and worked shoulder to shoulder with iconic performers like William Shatner, Julianna Margulies, Adrien Brody, Charles Dance, Liam Cunningham, and Tom Ellis.   But despite his remarkable résumé, Pat remains deeply grounded in the place he calls home: Sydney River, Cape Breton/Unama'ki.   What struck us most during this conversation is Pat's pure, unfiltered passion for his craft. He speaks about camera work not just as a technical skill, but as a creative point of view—the way he sees and feels the world. We spent time reassuring him (lovingly) that he is an artist, and that his instincts, sensitivity, and strong visual identity absolutely count.   And now, after decades of telling other people's stories, Pat is stepping into a new chapter: developing his own TV series. The anticipated project is inspired by Cape Breton's own Frank MacDonald and his book The Smeltdog Man, a full-circle moment after Frank recently joined us on the podcast. Pat hopes this series will help strengthen the film industry on Cape Breton Island, creating opportunities and shining a brighter light on a place he deeply loves.   This conversation is a reminder of what it feels like to be grateful, intentional, and awake to the creative path you've chosen. Pat's humility, humour, and heart make this one of those episodes that leaves you feeling lighter and more inspired to begin your own next chapter.   A beautiful chat about craft, home, and seeing the world with curiosity.     Watch this episode on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@mikeandkristen   Join our Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/c/mikeandkristen   Us on the web: www.mikeandkristen.ca Instagram: www.instagram.com/mike_and_kristen/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/mikeandkristencreative Shoot us a message! Send us a textKatie and special guest Julie(!) run blindly through the woods as they re-watch the suspenseful early 2000's movie: The Village! It's a movie all about how if you are fed up with the woes of society, you can just start your own cult in the woods and abandon all modern luxuries - while also simultaneously fear-mongering your children - all while allowing disease and death to kill everyone because you refuse to go get medicine! ......Yeah this feels a little too topical for this day and age! SOMEBODY HELP! Come along as we meet Ivy, a blind woman who decides to go into the woods to get medicine for her newly shanked fiancé, Lucius. When we're led to believe that the evil creatures who spread fear throughout the town also live in the woods and Ivy probably won't make it, her dad gives her (and us the audience) the real talk about the creatures and the town in general. Spoiler alert! It's kinda dumb! With not many surprising twists and turns we instead get a beautifully shot movie that may or may not be a modern retelling of Pride and Prejudice! We've got scary woods, "olden times" (lol), and brainwashing galore in not-really-a-horror-movie movie. Released in 2004, it was written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan and stars Sigourney Weaver, William Hurt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Joaquin Phoenix, Adrien Brody, Brendan Gleeson, and Cherry Jones.

Reality-TV lightning rod LeeAnne Locken returns to the Palazzo Suite for a riotous, no-filter follow-up that ping-pongs from slap-stick panic to soul-baring insight. Pol' is hand-gluing crystals when the puppies lose it—there's a giant snake coiled under his nightstand! LeeAnne narrates the chaos: Patrik's “call 911,” Pol's couture crisis, and a squad of hunky firemen wrestling a 12-foot (?) interloper down four flights of stairs. Drama level: Housewives reunion meets Animal Planet. Snake talk mutates into gallows humor: how to sink a corpse with razor wire, tarps, and cinder blocks—complete with a Home Depot shopping list. (Strictly theoretical, but hilariously vivid.) LeeAnne claims she was Real Housewives of Dallas: convinced Bravo to green-light it, earned only $35 K her first season, took 250 K viewers with her when she quit. She drags “manipulative” Stephanie Hollman, praises Erika Jayne and Lisa Rinna, shades Gizelle Bryant, and predicts Jen Shah will film straight out of the clink. Peacock's millions in streaming residuals? The cast gets zero. The trio swap “skinny secrets”—Ozempic injections, Kim Kardashian's Marilyn-dress crash diet, and the agony of sitting after a BBL. RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Loves: Georgina Chapman's black ruffled couture alongside beau Adrien Brody. Loathes: Selena Gomez's “dated funeral frock.” Debate: Should Brody keep his Oscar nod if AI generated his Hungarian accent? Giving DUI-plagued Karen Huger prison-prep advice (“Pose for photos, build your core”). Outraged at a Qatar flight that left passengers seated beside a dead woman. One-liners like “Shoot me in the taco!” keep Patrik screaming with laughter. LeeAnne breezes through: Brandy Redmond admitted she “farts a lot,” Cameron Westcott fed people pink dog food, Tiffany Moon wore the giant umbrella hat, and more. Pol' flips LeeAnne's Armenian coffee cup and channels her late grandmother Dorothy—the first person who ever loved her unconditionally. He prescribes a seven-month ritual: church, bread-breaking, and a pilgrimage to her family's magnolia-shaded Louisiana graves. LeeAnne dissolves; audiences glimpse the tender heart beneath the carnival-queen bravado. Expect venomous wit, Bravo secrets, couture critique, and an unexpectedly moving communion with Grandma—all in one wildly entertaining hour. Adrien Brody does a lot of research for his roles, but his performance in the new movie The Brutalist was shaped largely by his family's immigrant experience and it aligned with his desire to play characters who are outsiders.
