In October 2024, Ireland and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) signed an extradition treaty aimed at facilitating the transfer of individuals wanted for serious crimes, notably targeting members of the Kinahan cartel residing in Dubai. This agreement, formalized by Ireland's Justice Minister Helen McEntee and UAE's Minister Abdullah bin Sultan bin Awad al Nuaimi, represents a significant step in international cooperation against organized crime. The treaty's implementation is expected to expedite the extradition process, enabling Irish authorities to bring alleged criminals back to face justice.Recent developments indicate that authorities are intensifying efforts to dismantle the Kinahan cartel's operations. According to many reports, the IRA and the Kinahan cartel are not what you would call friends. Especially after the 2016 regency hotel attack. Now, during the Gerry "The Monk" Hutch trial, this issue is coming up once again. In today's episode, we take a look at the claims made that the IRA tried to clip Daniel Kinahan and that they continue to look for a chance to remove him from the playing field. The Kinahan cartel is Ireland's most powerful crime gang, and one half of its most notorious gang war. After a failed hit on boss Daniel Kinahan, the cartel recruited a team of killers to retaliate against the Hutch gang. One of the men they hired was Estonian Imre ‘The Butcher' Arakas – but the eccentric hitman was soon caught. Ciarán Dunbar is joined by crime editor with the Irish Sun and co-author of ‘Kinahan Assassins', Stephen Breen, to tell the story of the Kinahan-Hutch feud, its victims and its hitmen. Even when Interpol slapped a “Red Notice” on Sean McGovern, the Irish career criminal hiding out in Dubai was probably not too concerned. That Red Notice came about because the DPP in Ireland directed that McGovern, Daniel Kinahan's closest and most trusted lieutenant, should face charges relating to the 2016 murder of Noel Kirwan (62) as part of the Kinahan-Hutch feud and the notice requested police authorities around the world to find and arrest the Dubliner.McGovern would likely have considered the UAE a safe haven, far from the reaches of US and European law enforcement agencies. But he was wrong. Last Thursday morning he was finally arrested at his home in Dubai. So what has changed in the UAE, where authorities have proven to be notoriously reluctant to co-operate with extradition requests from western law enforcement agencies. What will happen to McGovern now? And what does it mean for the Kinahan cartel leadership who consider themselves safe in Dubai – father Christy and his sons Daniel, Christy jnr? Could they also be on their way back to Dublin to face justice in the near future?Irish Times crime and security editor Conor Lally explains the background.Presented by Bernice Harrison. Gangland boss Daniel Kinahan's attempts to sports-wash his image have failed, but the fallout is far from over with a US court ordering him to pay nearly $10m to a rival promoter. The Kinahan cartel has recently made significant cuts to its payroll, reducing the number of operatives as a response to increased international pressure and sanctions. This decision is part of the cartel's broader strategy to adapt to heightened scrutiny and asset freezes imposed by authorities in the UAE and the U.S. The U.S. sanctions, specifically targeting key members and businesses associated with the cartel, have led to significant financial constraints, prompting the cartel to downsize its operations and reduce costs. The Kinahan cartel, known for its extensive involvement in drug trafficking and money laundering, has faced increasing challenges due to coordinated efforts by international law enforcement agencies. The sanctions, which have frozen assets and restricted the cartel's ability to conduct business, have forced them to reassess their operational structure. This has resulted in the dismissal of numerous lower-level operatives, often referred to as "soldiers," who were previously employed to carry out the cartel's illicit activities.Additionally, the cartel's strategic hubs, particularly in Dubai, have come under greater scrutiny, further complicating their ability to operate smoothly. The sanctions have not only impacted the cartel's financial resources but also hindered their logistical capabilities, making it more difficult to maintain a large workforce dedicated to their criminal enterprises.(commercial at 8:51)to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:Daniel Kinahan 'axes dozens from his cartel payroll' leaving former key associates 'in real trouble' - Irish Mirror Online

A major new investigation by The Irish Times has uncovered details of the Kinahan cartel's property empire being secretly sold off in Dubai. Most of the real estate had been purchased in the name of Caoimhe Robinson, the wife of Daniel Kinahan, who is not accused of any criminality. The organised crime group has been put under pressure by sanctions imposed by US authorities two years ago, resulting in the disposal of several luxury assets in the Middle Eastern city. Among them is a property in a gated community where residents have included infamous podcaster Andrew Tate and the family of former Zimbabwean dictator, Robert Mugabe. Crime and security correspondent Conor Gallagher outlines the results of the investigation known as Dubai Unlocked.Presented by Sorcha Pollak. Produced by Aideen Finnegan. Hosted on Acast. John Joe Nevin is on the comeback trail. Out of the ring since 2019, he's signed a new management deal with a Las Vegas-based fight fixer and is ready to dream of world titles again. But he knows, as he approaches his 35th birthday, that time is not on his side. Nevin won the lot as an amateur - World, European and Olympic medals - and is clearly one of the GOATs in that code. But it's ten years since his pro debut, and ten years since he suffered terrible leg injuries during an attack in Mullingar - after which he was told he would never box again before being put in a wheelchair. Somehow Nevin managed to box again that very year, twice in fact, before moving to Philadelphia to spar alongside none other than rising star (and his coach's son) Boots Ennis, who is now one of boxing's leading names. At this stage Nevin's had more managers than Watford FC and he discusses snubbing Amir Khan as well as his short-lived signing for a bizarre double act of Billy Joe Saunders and Daniel Kinahan - before US sanctions put paid to that. It's definitely been a Rocky Road for the Mullingar Shuffler in the pro ranks but he's ready to knock a bit of dust and a bit of rust off the motor and take it for another spin… Hosted on Acast. However, that could now change. Gardaí have sent a file to the Director of Public Prosecutions with evidence they believe could link several men to the killing. Daniel Kinahan, who is currently based in Dubai, is just one of the suspects named in the file. How likely is it that the leader of the Kinahan cartel will end up in Garda handcuffs?
