This week, Nizzbit returns to the show to have Travis watch the 2002 drama Road to Perdition for the first time. Set in 1931, Mike Sullivan works for the local mobster, but when his son Michael Jr stows away on one of his "errands" and witnesses a shootout, they become entangled in a plot to kill them both by the Mobsters son, Connor. Tom Hanks stars along with Paul Newman, Daniel Craig, and Tyler Hoechlin in one of his earliest roles. So, is this one of the best adaptations of a comic/graphic novel out there? Or does it fail to live up to the hype? Let's find out...Thanks go out to Audie Norman (@TheAudieNorman) for the album art. In this Mob Mentality Show episode, we join James Herr and Woody Zuill for a one-of-a-kind session James calls the "Hot Sauce Ensemble" — mob programming a video game from scratch in the Godot engine using AI, while eating escalating hot sauces every three-minute rotation. Fair warning to podcast listeners: this episode has a strong YouTube component. If things start sounding chaotic and spicy, that's because they are — jump over to YouTube to see what's happening on screen. James set up the session with Claude Code in VS Code (backed by Amazon Bedrock) and a blank Godot project containing only one asset: a hot sauce sprite generated by ChatGPT. From there, the mob navigated an AI coding agent through a real-time game build — adding player movement, landing explosions, and physics-based bell pepper enemies that scatter when stomped. The enemies were bell peppers specifically because Chris despises them. The hero is hot sauce. The logic is sound. Along the way, James introduced the "plate spinning" technique: opening multiple AI agents in parallel terminals so one prompt cooks while the mob drives another, keeping momentum even when AI responses run long. We dig into: How "Hot Sauce Ensemble" combines traditional mob rotations with escalating spicy food — and why it works as a team-building format Using Claude Code in VS Code with Godot to build a playable game from a blank project in real time The plate spinning technique: running multiple AI coding agents in parallel terminals to maintain flow Why the goal should be "effective," not "productive" — and how mob programming and AI tools both support that shift How AI procedurally generates game art assets (bell pepper sprites built from polygon shapes and shading) without any image generation tools Navigating an unfamiliar codebase and engine as a mob, using an AI agent as the technical guide What happens to your prompting quality when habaneros and The Last Dab are involved Hot sauce as a hero, bell peppers as villains: designing game mechanics around personal taste (literally) If you've ever wondered what mob programming looks like when applied to game development, AI-assisted coding, and competitive spice tolerance all at once, this episode delivers all three simultaneously — with physics. THE FIRST ALL-STAR GAME with author Randall Sullivan What happens when a botched assassination attempt on a president, the “Outfit,” the Great Depression, and the Legend of Babe Ruth collide in Chicago? Author Randall Sullivan reveals how the first so-called “Game of the Century” helped pull America out of its darkest era. Discover the untold history of baseball's first All-Star Game and the legends that shaped the sport. In 1933, an assassin fired six bullets at President-elect Franklin D. Roosevelt in Miami. Every single bullet missed FDR, but they fatally struck Chicago Mayor Anton Cermak. Out of the political chaos of that assassination, a city's desperation to escape the shadow of Al Capone's crime syndicate, and the darkest, most terrifying days of the Great Depression, an unbelievable gamble was born. To save the city's morale, a new mayor and a sports editor dreamed up the ultimate distraction: the first Major League Baseball All-Star Game. The Book THE FIRST ALL-STAR GAME: Babe Ruth, FDR, and America at the Crossroads (Atlantic Monthly Press, June 2, 2026) Summary Brian O'Leary sits down with three-time Pulitzer Prize nominee Randall Sullivan to discuss his new book, THE FIRST ALL-STAR GAME: Babe Ruth, FDR, and America at the Crossroads (Atlantic Monthly Press, June 2, 2026). Sullivan explains that the book was born from his discouragement over modern political polarization, leading him to research how the United States survived the Great Depression. The conversation traces the chain reaction of events that created the 1933 Chicago World's Fair and the first-ever All-Star Game. This includes a Miami assassination attempt on President-elect Franklin D. Roosevelt that resulted in the death of Chicago Mayor Anton Cermak. Throughout the episode, we dive into the towering mythos of Babe Ruth, noting that his absence in 1925 caused American League attendance to plummet. We also explore the cultural fallout of the 1919 Black Sox scandal, the iron-fisted rule of Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis, and the forgotten legacies of players like Chuck Klein and Lefty O'Doul. Key Takeaways The Origins of the All-Star Game: The 1933 game was staged as a one-off exhibition for the Chicago World's Fair. It was pitched by sports editor Arch Ward to Mayor Edward Nash to boost morale after Mayor Cermak's tragic death. Babe Ruth's Unmatched Stardom: Ruth's absence due to illness in 1925 caused American League attendance to drop by 34%. Furthermore, he holds the top three WAR (Wins Above Replacement) seasons in Major League history. That's just the tip of the iceberg of the Ruthian Legend (and reality). The Black Sox Legacy: The 1919 scandal resulted in a complicated trial where players were acquitted by a working-class jury. However, Judge Landis later banned them for life, restoring baseball's image in the eyes of the outraged American public. Overlooked Baseball Legends: Sullivan argues that Lefty O'Doul deserves Hall of Fame recognition. O'Doul not only hit .398 with 254 hits in a 154-game season, but he was also instrumental in bringing baseball to Japan and in developing it there. The French Connection and Paraguay In 1968, a gang of smartly-dressed gangsters robbed a bank in Buenos Aires. The fallout from the raid would lead authorities in all kinds of crazy directions — from French paramilitary hitmen to mobsters belonging to the feared Union Corse, Corsican dope traffickers who'd perfected “French Connection” routes from Southeast Asia and Turkey into Marseille, then onto New York to feed a ballooning American addiction crisis. Amid the chaos, one Frenchman fled Argentina to neighboring Paraguay. There he discovered a smuggler's paradise, full of Nazis and narcos, whose reliance on drugs and contraband would grow so huge that US drug squads would refer not only to the French Connection, but to one named for Paraguay's repressive, half-German dictator: The Stroessner Connection. He and the fugitive French mafioso would form a bond that, in many ways, has outlived both of them to today. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

“ALMOST MARRIED TO THE MOB: HOLLYWOOD ACTRESSES WHO DATED MOBSTERS” - 1/19/2026 (123) In this episode, we slip into the shadows where classic Hollywood glamour meets organized crime, exploring the classic Hollywood actresses who found themselves romantically entangled with real-life mobsters. At a time when studios tightly controlled female stars' images, these notorious bad boys offered something intoxicatingly different: raw power beyond the backlot, fierce loyalty, protection from predators both on and off the screen, and a rebellious thrill that defied Hollywood's carefully scripted rules. Drawn by charisma, thrills and maybe even a little danger, these women navigated a world where diamonds, nightclubs, and whispered threats coexisted with premieres and press junkets—and where love could be as risky as it was seductive. This week, we're looking at the romantic entanglements that occurred when the mob meets Hollywood. Benjamin Wittes sits down with Emily Hoge, a historian at Clemson University, who has written a pair of pieces for Lawfare recently about Russian mobsters and the war in Ukraine. They're getting out of prison in exchange for service at the front. Some of them are surviving their service there and returning home by way of reward—and the Russian crime rate is skyrocketing as a result. Is all of this altering the Russian social contract, which promised to make the violence of the 1990s a thing of the past in exchange to submission to Vladimir Putin's rule?To receive ad-free podcasts, become a Lawfare Material Supporter at www.patreon.com/lawfare. NCAA Gambling Scandal GETS WORSE! Mobsters ARRESTED as NCAA players WORKED FOR THEM RIGGING GAMES!
RUNDOWN Is Mitch secretly a MOBSTER? The guys ride the high of a Seahawks blowout while fretting an Earnest Jones IV injury and torching D.C.'s awful turf, then rip through birthday/lore nuggets. An unforgettable World Series finish, seen through a Seattle lens—taking petty joy in Toronto's collapse while admitting Game 7 (and the under-discussed, error-filled Game 6) will haunt Mariners fans for years. Then it's all Seahawks: a near-perfect beatdown in D.C., vintage throwback uniforms, and why John Schneider should chase help at WR/OL/LB before the deadline. Mitch, Brady, and Jacson break down Seattle's 38–14 primetime rout of Washington — a game where both sides of the ball finally clicked. They discuss Sam Darnold's near-perfect night (one of only four 97+ QBRs in the NFL this season — three belonging to him), Mike Macdonald's astounding 11–1 road record, and the play-calling brilliance driving the offense. Rick Neuheisel joins Mitch to break down a wild week in college football — from the bloated buyouts fueling a $160 million coaching carousel to Washington's unlikely playoff path. The two dive into quarterback drama, "alma mater alimony," and the rise of dual-threat sensation Demond Williams, before wrapping with Taco Time's weekly honors — including a nod to Oklahoma's kicker and his unforgettable Daisy Duke game-day look. Christian Caple joins Mitch to assess the Huskies' 6–2 season and the playoff math that could still put Washington in the 12-team field if they run the table. He breaks down the defense's ability to hang with Oregon, the tricky stretch at UCLA, and how Jed Fish's success could make him a hot-commodity coach with a star quarterback in tow.
