Donald Trump says Israel and Hamas have agreed to the first phase of his Gaza peace plan. During an extraordinary round table on the Antifa organisation last night, the US President was interrupted by Marco Rubio and given a hand-written message. He told those assembled at the White House: ‘I was just given a note by the Secretary of State saying that we're very close to a deal in the Middle East, and they'll need me pretty quickly.' Details of the deal, including the finalised list of prisoners Hamas wants freed as part of an exchange, remain unclear. But the first part of the deal could be set in motion as soon as today once the Israeli government approves the plan at around 2 p.m. local time. Is he heading for a Nobel Peace Prize?Meanwhile, Starmer is in Mumbai, researching India's digital ID system as a potential model for the UK. The Prime Minister said India's scheme, which has been rolled out to almost all 1.4 billion citizens over the past 15 years, had been a ‘massive success'. As countries all over the world, but particularly liberal democracies in the West, turn themselves inside out over the issue of migration and in the process empowering the far right, it was my great pleasure to speak to one of the few people who actually is willing to give calm, clear facts on this subject. Zoe Gardner is rightly a prominent figure in media and public debates on migration, but is almost the only person willing to stand up and be counted with some humane, calm and utterly essential facts on the matter. It was such a privilege to get her on the podcast and I hope you get as much from the conversation as I did. Ksenija Juvan devet let živi v Sloveniji.

NATO aktivovalo svoj článok štyri a spoločné konzultácie a Estónsko žiada rokovanie aj Bezpečnostnej rady OSN.Čo všetko tieto ruské provokácie znamenajú? Má to celé vojenské riešenie? Braňo Závodský sa rozprával s generálom vo výslužbe a šéfom mimoparlamentnej ODS Pavlom Mackom.

The government is expected to press ahead with recognition of Palestinian statehood, before a formal declaration at the United Nations. Prime Minister Keir Starmer set out plans earlier this year to recognise Palestine – but what does this actually mean? And what does the move actually achieve; is it driven by principle, by politics – or by pressure from within his own party?Michael Stephens of RUSI and Gabriel Pogrund of the Sunday Times join James Heale to assess the significance of this shift. They discuss the backlash from countries like the US, the unease within Labour ranks and the growing tension between domestic politics and Britain's standing with allies in the Middle East. France, Australia and Canada, close allies of Britain, announced their own plans to recognise Palestine, yet the US has condemned any move. What does Starmer's recognition of Palestine mean for the UK's relationship with the US?
We all saw the handshakes – but Trump's meeting with Putin in Alaska has yet to see a peace deal signed and an end to the invasion of Ukraine. Now, it's being reported that the US is considering a new wave of sanctions on Russia's financial enablers – looking at secondary countries acting as middle men. Trump also wants to see more action from the EU – demanding trade tariffs on India and China as well as a quicker end to the EU importing Russian energy. All of this goes to show that cutting one country out of the financial system is NOT. EASY. AT. ALL. In the re-spin (originally published in November 2024) our expert host Marit Rødevand is joined by Chloe Cina of RUSI, Jessica Cath of Thistle Initiatives, and Mitch Trehan of Allica Bank. The panel discuss three provocative statements: "the compliance industry is more focused on box-ticking than truly fighting financial crime", "sanctions are great for headlines - but criminals use them as a roadmap", and "AI hasn't stopped criminals—it's just made their jobs easier".Will Trump's new sanctions package bring an end to the war in Ukraine – or are we still just ticking boxes? Can Turkey act as a stabilising force in Syria and Iraq, or are its policies driven by short-term security concerns? As Ankara seeks to navigate the shifting geopolitical landscape of the Middle East, its approach to Syria and Iraq has become a key test of its regional influence. In this episode of Global Security Briefing, Neil Melvin is joined by Burcu Ozcelik, Senior Research Fellow, RUSI, Dr Serhat Erkmen, RUSI associate fellow and founder of the geopolitical risk consultancy, Pros and Cons, and Dr Oytun Orhan, Coordinator of Levant Studies at the Centre for Middle Eastern Studies (ORSAM), to examine Turkey's policies. The discussion explores the impact of domestic pressures, regional rivalries, security threats, and great power relations, asking whether Ankara can translate tactical gains into a sustainable regional role.

This week Thomas is joined by academic and RUSI fellow, Dr. Burcu Ozcelik, a leading expert on Turkish domestic and foreign policy, particularly its relations with the Kurds and the Middle East. With a Ph.D. from Cambridge University on the topic of the PKK and their path to political reconciliation, Burcu has written widely about the Kurds and their relationship with the Turkish state - you can find her work over on X @BurcuAOzcelik Burcu provides a deep dive into the history of the Kurds, a people divided across national borders after the fall of the Ottoman Empire, and traces the evolution of the PKK from its Marxist-Leninist, separatist origins to a group that has now shifted its focus to achieving political and cultural rights within Turkey. The pair also explore the political motives of President Erdoğan and the Turkish establishment, who are seeking to finally resolve the Kurdish issue as a matter of long-term statecraft, before concluding with a forward-looking analysis of Turkey's role as a rising middle power in the post-Assad Middle East, which now prioritizes stability and economic connectivity over past ideological ambitions. Čo má robiť Slovensko a čo Európska únia a NATO?
Britain has a new Foreign Secretary, Yvette Cooper, and this week's episode dives into the UK's foreign policy and how it could in theory transcend some of the country's current political divides. To dig into this topic, Jane and Jason are joined by Michael Stephens, senior fellow at Global Nation and an associate fellow at RUSI. Mike's new report, ‘Rules Britannia' is being launched today, and is full of proposals for how Britain can help Order the Disorder. Mike and his co-authors are trying to build a broad consensus across political parties and traditions, to advance ‘a unifying vision of Britain's role in the world that is grounded in our national values'. Brits do generally see their country as one that can play a positive role in the world. But the recent years have lost that consensus with rival sloans: from Brexit and “Global Britain”, to the short-lived “tilt to the Indo-Pacific”, then the “NATO-first” approach of the strategic defence review. In short, recent British policy has been somewhat confused by the succession of different governments and foreign secretaries in the past few years. And as results British citizens do not feel current policy reflects their priorities. Delving into the topic, the panel talk about opportunities for the U.K. to play a leading role in areas that it's good at: rule of law, international finance and public health. These are the domains where there can be cross-party support rooted in a sense of Britain's comparative advantages. We also discuss why Ukraine has - so far - been a unifying cause for Brits, with successive prime ministers committed to supporting the country's independence with military assistance - in stark contrast to the US. And who else can Britain work with in a “global middle-power alliance” to “change the calculations of the rule-breakers that are currently upending the international order” (per the report), while also trying to persuade the US not to abandon that order wholesale? In one of the punchier moments of debate, Jason questions why migration is dominating the headlines and why no one right now in British politics seems to want to make the positive case for attracting the best talent from around the world.
A hovoril o nich Donald Trump!

Donald Trump has just met both Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the same week - two leaders locked in a war that has reshaped global security. For Putin, the meeting with Trump offered legitimacy and a chance to show that Russia is still a power the US must engage with. For Zelenskyy, it was about survival, pressing Trump to keep American support flowing as Ukraine fights for its future. So what really happened behind those closed doors and what does it mean for NATO, Europe and the wider world? In this episode of The Fourcast, Matt Frei speaks to Emily Ferris from RUSI and William Alberque, a specialist on arms control and NATO, to explore what Trump's diplomacy tells us about the next phase of the war - and America's role in it.
As preparations begin for the next phase of US-Russia negotiations on Ukraine's security, critics warn that too many concessions may already have been made. Emily Ferris of RUSI explores how the summit is being perceived in Russia - and what the future may hold for these high-stakes talks. The World in 10 is the Times' daily podcast dedicated to global security.

As Ukraine and Russia master new forms of drone warfare, are NATO and Europe being left behind? Is the West willfully clinging to older 20th century ways of equipping and preparing for war? In this episode, Arthur Snell is joined by Matthew Savill, the Director of Military Sciences at RUSI. They focus on developments and trends in contemporary conflict and investigate new trends in the use of force in the mid-21st Century. The duo discuss Ukraine's rapid innovation in drone technology, the challenges NATO faces in integrating the newer forms of air power with its ground forces, Britain's lack of preparedness at the Corp level, and the shifting dynamics of US commitment to NATO. And as they Order the Disorder, Matthew expresses a need for European countries to enhance their military capabilities and boost overall readiness – and the need to spend large amounts of money to achieve those objectives. This episode is truly a master class in the dynamics of modern warfare that many consumers of news will miss beyond the headlines. Edition No213 | 03-08-2025 - Russia's new missile, Oreshnik—the "hazelnut" makes a comeback. Why now, and should we take these threats seriously? Putin has announced “mass production” of the missile complex, teased deployment in Belarus, and claimed it can “dual” U.S. defenses. But how real is it? What threat does Europe face? And how much is psychological propaganda and bluff? On August 1, 2025, President Putin announced alongside Belarus's Lukashenko that “Preparatory work is ongoing, and most likely we will be done with it before the year's end”, saying the first Oreshniki and their systems have entered service. That same day regime supporting outlets reported “serial production of the latest Oreshnik medium‑range missile system is under way,” with range up to 3,425 miles (5,500 km), able to strike Europe and parts of the US. (New York Post)Analysts remain skeptical. Oreshnik appears based on the RS‑26 Rubezh—functionally repackaged, not radically new. As one expert put it, it was "a series of old technologies ... put together in a new way"—perhaps only 10 % of which was new. (Wikipedia) U.S. officials emphasize it's still experimental, and Russia likely only has a limited number of them. So, while mass‑production is claimed, in truth it may mean only a small initial batch—and more psychological signalling than industrial capacity. Of course, the choice of warhead is just as important, in terms of what impact the munition can have. ----------SUPPORT THE CHANNEL:https://www.buymeacoffee.com/siliconcurtainhttps://www.patreon.com/siliconcurtain----------SOURCES: * Euronews (Aug 1, 2025, deployment announcement)* AP News (deployment in Belarus)* Business Insider (mass-production claims & analysis)* Wikipedia (Oreshnik detailed history & capabilities)* RUSI and RIAC commentary (technical & strategic analysis)* Foreign Policy on submunition threat* Le Monde on Dnipro deployment* Kyiv Independent / Zelensky parts warning* The Guardian on missile escalation context* The Sunday Times via Times (UK vulnerability gap)----------TRUSTED CHARITIES ON THE GROUND:Save Ukrainehttps://www.saveukraineua.org/Superhumans - Hospital for war traumashttps://superhumans.com/en/UNBROKEN - Treatment. Putina Trumpove hrozby nezastavili. Sobotným Dobrým ránom vás sprevádzajú Zuzana Kovačič Hanzelová a Jakub Filo.Otázky do nasledujúcej epizódy Dobrého rána sobota nám zasielajte na e-mail dobrerano@sme.sk, ideálne vo forme hlasovej správy. Epizóda 124: Rusi masovo vraždia ukrajinských civilistov a vyhrážajú sa obsadením Paríža.

Ako to ovplyvní ďalšie spoločné aktivity v boji proti kybernetickým a hybridným hrozbám?Ako dnes vyzerajú policajné a spravodajské zložky v očiach zahraničných predstaviteľov? Last week, a clip of BBC Ukrainian reporter Myroslava Petsa went viral, after President Trump asked a series of questions about her personal story during a press conference at the Nato summit. Myroslava tells us what was going through her mind at that moment, and what it has been like to cover the conflict while her husband fights for Ukraine. We also hear from Matthew Savill at RUSI about the intensification of nightly Russian drone attacks on Ukrainian towns and cities. Can Russia sustain this level of aerial pressure? Is Ukraine's effort to target manufacturing hubs actually effective? And why is President Zelensky so keen to buy new Patriot missile defence systems?Today's episode is presented by Victoria Derbyshire and Vitaly Shevchenko. The producers were Laurie Kalus, Nik Sindle and Polly Hope. The technical producer was Mike Regaard. The series producer is Tim Walklate. The senior news editor is Sam Bonham.
