What are Louisville's biggest assets and how can we best leverage those? That was recently a topic of discussion on the Access Louisville podcast. We took the weekly LBF show live for a special episode — recorded in front of an audience and with three guests: Jennifer Barber, office member in charge, Louisville, Frost Brown ToddScott Catlett, chair, Impetus for a Better Louisville and former Yum Brands Inc. chief legal and franchise officerMike Mountjoy, founding partner and chairman emeritus of MCM CPAs and Advisors (now Cherry Bekaert)All three were members of LBF's Power 50 list of Louisville's most influential business people. They are all also at different stages of their careers, with Barber making her first appearance on that list, Catlett being a regular and Mountjoy being part of the inaugural Power 50 Hall of Fame. We talked about their careers for a bit at the top of the show, with each sharing their proudest accomplishments. After the career talk, we got to talking about what Louisville should look to accomplish as a city — and they all three had great takes: On building the economy"We talk about bringing big companies here — we don't need to bring the big companies here. We need to bring people here," said Mountjoy. He advocates 0% income tax as a means of doing that. "The businesses follow the people, not the other way around. There aren't enough engineers in Louisville. There need to be more. There's not enough technology people here." On getting involved"One thing about our community is it's small enough if you want to make a difference you can," said Catlett. "There are plenty of organizations where you can contribute and make a difference and it's gonna take that. We can't look to the leaders of the past. We need people to step up — of today's generation, of tomorrow's generation — to really be a force for good in the community." On the workforce"The talent pool is still very strong. Outside of the legal industry, I think the issue for Kentucky and for Louisville is less the talent pool and more workforce participation," said Barber, noting a troubling trend within that metric. "We've got to increase our workforce participation. We're going to have to tackle some things like housing issues and childcare issues to get more Kentuckians and more Louisvillians into that talent pool." (1) De Souza, M. The nerd super duo is back at it again. This time, Dr. Trexler plays Sherlock and Dr. Helms plays Watson in a discussion of how overtraining syndrome, metabolic adaptation, relative energy deficiency in sport, exercise energy compensation, body fat regulation, and more, are both distinct from one another, yet are all also closely related. Surprisingly, it took a couple meat head bodybuilders to notice the shared characteristics and overlap between these separate concepts. That's precisely because bodybuilders are crazy enough to go through a process that often results in their simultaneous occurrence! Listen in to find out what these concepts are, when they intersect as well as diverge, how you can identify which you or your clients are experiencing, and what to do about it. 00:00 A (kind of) synced up intro and an appearance from Omar 02:04 A brainstorming session on metabolism https://massresearchreview.com/ Omar Isuf - Why You Shouldn't Try To Be “Shredded” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GmlGt49Oi1I https://www.strongerbyscience.com/stay-shredded/ 08:30 Low energy availability and the female athlete triad Areta 2021 Low energy availability: history, definition and evidence of its endocrine, metabolic and physiological effects in prospective studies in females and males https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33095376/ 23:20 Energy availability and body fat Loucks 2003 Energy availability, not body fatness, regulates reproductive function in women https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/12882481/ 29:15 Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport and the drivers of metabolic adaptation Burke 2023 Mapping the complexities of Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (REDs): development of a physiological model by a subgroup of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Consensus on REDs https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37752007/ Mountjoy 2023 2023 International Olympic Committee's (IOC) consensus statement on Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (REDs) https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37752011/ Hackney 2005 Testosterone and endurance exercise: development of the "exercise-hypogonadal male condition https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/16268050/ Hackney 2020 Hypogonadism in Exercising Males: Dysfunction or Adaptive-Regulatory Adjustment? https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32082255/ 48:07 Overtraining syndrome Stellingwerff 2021 Overtraining Syndrome (OTS) and Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S): Shared Pathways, Symptoms and Complexities https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34181189/ Iron Culture Ep. 149- Overreaching, Overtraining, and Insufficient Recovery: Everything You Need To Know https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxohJX_F-XY 55:08 Energy constraint and compensation Dolan 2023 Energy constraint and compensation: Insights from endurance athletes https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37557979/ 1:05:13 A practical spin: bringing all the information together 1:20:07 Closing out with a shoutout to our sponsor: The RED-S calorie-free food van
Anointing Sunday is an annual rhythm for Newlife Church. Because we believe that repetition is formation, and gospel amnesia is a reality (the spiritual warfare of forgetting who God is, what he has done and therefore called us to be and do). When something was anointed in the bible it was set apart for sacred/holy purposes. When items in the temple were anointed - they were set apart for sacred purposes. When people were anointed - they were set apart for sacred purposes. Because of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we now are filled with the Holy Spirit. We have been anointed and set apart because we have been saved, redeemed and empowered. This anointing gives us a new identity and a new purpose.Anointing Sunday is a moment when we are reminded as God's people of our kingdom identity and kingdom purpose. We have been set apart with a new identity and a kingdom purpose. We pray that this message is a blessing.–We'd love to hear from you!hello@church.nuwww.facebook.com/newlifegoldcoastwww.instagram.com/@newlifegoldcoastwww.youtube.com/@newlifechurchau ★ Support this podcast ★

The minuscule European Duchy of Grand Fenwick is bankrupted when an American company comes up with a cheaper imitation of Fenwick's sole export, its fabled Pinot Grand Fenwick wine. Crafty Prime Minister Count Mountjoy devises a plan: Grand Fenwick will declare war on the United States, then surrender, taking advantage of American largesse toward its defeated enemies to rebuild the defeated nation's economy. Duchess Gloriana is hesitant but agrees to the plan. Mild-mannered game warden Tully Bascomb is charged as Field Marshal to lead the Grand Fenwick troops, aided by Sergeant Will Buckley. The contingent of 20 soldiers, in medieval chain mail uniform, travel across the Atlantic on a small merchant ship, arriving in New York Harbor during an air-raid drill that leaves the city deserted and undefended. They chance upon a civil defence truck and are mistaken for invading Martians, prompting an investigation by blustering but ineffectual General Snippet. Puncturing the tyres of the general's jeep with their bows and arrows, the Grand Fenwick troops take him and four police officers hostage. Still looking for a place to surrender, Tully and Will stumble across Dr. Alfred Kokintz, whose invention of the Q Bomb – capable of destroying an entire continent – has prompted the defence drills. He has built a football-sized prototype of the unstable bomb, which Tully takes possession of. With Kokintz and his attractive daughter Helen as additional hostages, Tully declares victory and returns with them to Grand Fenwick. The duchess indulges Tully's victory, and the prime minister resigns in disgust at Tully's blunder, leaving him as acting prime minister. When the incident is discovered, the U.S. government is thwarted from retaking the weapon and hostages by force, fearing the dishonour of attacking such a small and defenceless nation. Instead, they send the U.S. Secretary of Defense (Austin Willis) to discuss terms of surrender and get back the bomb. Meanwhile, Grand Fenwick receives competing offers of defensive aid from each of the world's powers, in exchange for the weapon. Tully becomes smitten with Helen, who initially despises him for taking them but falls for his simple charm. Then Snippet and Mountjoy conspire to steal the bomb and return it (and Helen) to America, but Tully gives chase and retrieves it. The Secretary of Defense and Tully agree to terms: the knock-off wine will be taken off the market, Grand Fenwick will receive monetary aid from the US, Helen and her father will remain in Grand Fenwick, and so will the bomb: held by "the little countries of the world" as a weapon of last resort if the superpowers refuse to disarm. Checking the bomb for damage, Tully, Helen, and Dr. Kokintz find it was "a dud" all along, and leave it in the dungeon, conspiring to keep its impotence secret. However, after they leave, a mouse emerges from it, and it appears to rearm, sitting ready to explode if disturbed.
In an episode of The Explainer brought to you by Noteworthy, Susan Daly talks to investigative reporter Alice Chambers and a former prison governor of Mountjoy and Portlaoise prisons, John Lonergan, about the latest in-depth series, CALLING TIME. Our investigation found that prison visits have not returned to pre-pandemic levels, leaving children cut off from their parents in prison. We explore how families are coping and if children are being locked out from imprisoned parents.

The Road To Cork. In 1986 I gave a talk at a Sinn Féin conference which became known by activists of my vintage as The Road to Cork or The Bus to Cork. More of that at another time. Suffice for now to say that I made the journey to Cork a metaphor for the journey to the new republic. I am minded of that now as our car speeds south and I sit in the back penning these words. The road to Cork is indeed a very long road. So too the road to the new republic. But barring accidents we will get there. The Power Of X.Before X there was Twitter. Apart from the ill mannered, ill informed and abusive, nasty and vulgar tirades that are the mark of some contributors I like these forms of communication. I joined Twitter in January 2011 on the direction of Shaun Tracy who was then one of our leading shadowy figures in Leinster House. He continues to lead but in other shadowy sites of struggle. It is Shaun who is to blame for my twitterings over the years. He made the mistake of letting me put up whatever came into my head. Once I even published My Little Book Of Tweets. In part of course I was having the craic. But I was also countering the demonizing propaganda of the establishment media, particularly the Dublin media. But that's another story.Seamus Heaney.August 30 marks the 10th anniversary of the death of Seamus Heaney. I knew of Seamus before I knew him. He was a teacher in Saint Thomas' School on the Whiterock Road along with another fine scribe Michael McLaverty. Some of my brothers were pupils there. I know Seamus's poetry since Death of A Naturalist. His poems, and Patrick Kavanagh's verses, have always moved me. My thoughts are with Seamus's wife and family and with his friends at this anniversary time. A life of changeBernadette O'Hagan from Lurgan died last week. She was a strong republican woman. An activist. She was 95. For 52 years she was married to Joe B who was himself a hugely respected activist. Joe B is especially remembered for his part in the helicopter escape from Mountjoy prison in October 1973.
NIWA scientists hope the work they've done to map the Waiwhetu Aquifer under Wellington harbour will help scientists around the world to find new sources of drinking water. Instead of resorting to expensive drilling they utilised novel methods to record video footage and acoustic soundings of freshwater flowing out of various pockmarks in Wellington Harbour. They found several hundred freshwater sources, the largest of which are over 100m across. Project designer Joshu Mountjoy says the implications are huge, especially for drought prone and water scarce areas. Mountjoy spoke to Corin Dann.

On a chilly Sunday morning in December of 1980, Michael Kelly arrived at a neighbours house in a panic. There was a fire in the house he was staying in nearby, and inside were the two elderly siblings who he was there to look after. Sadly, Margaret and Martin Glynn - siblings in their 80s - were removed from the house and pronounced dead. But was this a tragic accident, or a malicious act driven by greed? Celeste Mountjoy is a Melbourne based artist, who has become a voice for a generation of women that, she says, are no longer prepared to smile politely at the outrages, uncertainties, and absurdities of life on the path to adulthood. Celeste uses her art to share her observations on being young, female and occasionally seriously fucked off. She started sharing her illustrations on Instagram at the age of 14 and now, almost a decade later her Instagram FilthyRatBag has garnered a huge following. Could the lads make a new life for themselves as fugitives? This week they put it to the test as they embark on a new life, on the run, following their escape from Mountjoy. It turns out the fugitives' life is a varied one, taking in Unique Menswear, numerous shopping centres, ready salted crisps and life as a castaway surrounded by strange marsupials.
A chance encounter in a pub leads Joe to wonder about life behind bars, which bring us through the history of prison breaks in Ireland and around the world - from helicopters to laundry carts and tunnels. With all of this new found knowledge the lads wonder if they could break out of the big house, and pretty quickly a complex and convoluted plot emerges... Darren also addresses the rumours of his future hosting the Late Late Show, and tells us about his financial run-in with a robot hotel.
