These are difficult times to be a student at one of Ontario's colleges or universities. The provincial government is contributing less, it's frozen tuition for more than six years, and the federal government has cut way back on international student visas, depriving the system of hundreds of millions of dollars it was counting on to keep the lights on. If you've got a kid in post-secondary or are a student there yourself, what are the implications of this perfect storm? David Agnew, who's been president of Seneca Polytechnic since 2009, joins Steve Paikin to discuss. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
On the heels of federal changes to immigration and a cap on international students, Seneca Polytechnic is temporarily closing its Markham campus. President David Agnew explains why he thinks the policies are not comprehensive enough. Plus, journalist Justin Ling looks at polarization on the campaign trail, and its connection to Canadian narratives.

This week's episode will cause hysteria for listeners who hail from the Emerald Isle, while those from other parts of the globe will have an education like NO OTHER, as we hear all about the ultimately doomed 'romance' between Ireland's biggest star and her philandering, oboist husband. It's not often you hear about a cheating oboist, but thanks to this week's guest, comedian, writer Tara Flynn, we get schooled in the messy, messy saga of Adele King - aka Twink and her on – off fella, David Agnew. Grainne was obviously DELIGHTED at being able to do a deep dive into what is one of Ireland's biggest showbiz couples, while Chantal (and most of the rest of us) can only listen agape at the goings on between this pair, not least an infamous voice mail, which coined the phrase 'zip up yer Mickey' and remains part of Irish folk law forever more. Buckle-up for this bumpy, but glorious ride! Come and see Grainne and Chatal LIVE when they record two episodes of ‘The Way They Were' at the Museum of Comedy in London, on Wednesday 25th October 2023. The first episode is recorded with the fantastic Alexandra Haddow, while show two features the brilliant Cariad Lloyd! Museum of Comedy - What's On Learn more about your ad choices. About Today's Show Welcome to the first episode of #SenecaProud Season 5! As in previous seasons, we launch Season 5 with an interview with Seneca College President, David Agnew. There's a lot that's changed in the year or so since President Agnew was on the podcast. While last year we were still in lock-down, this year, in-person classes are in full swing, students and teachers fill the hallways, and students are studying in the libraries. But it's definitely not the same as it was pre-pandemic. Technology has transformed much of the student administrative experience, and many more of our classes are completely flexible. And that's most definitely not all. Also in this episode, we also talk about: 1. How the Apple Store shopping experience inspired the Seneca registration experience, making it much more efficient and easy to navigate. 2. The 3 Year Strategic Plan embraces the Polytechnic side of Seneca. 3. The roll ChatGPT, and other AIs, might play in our daily lives in the very near future. (for more on what that project was about, you can click here, or listen to some episodes from last season, which was just about entirely dedicated Au Large) Also in this episode, we also talk about: 1. What students, staff, and faculty can expect when they return to campus. Note: Anyone returning to campus needs to show proof of vaccination. 2. How technology is transforming some of the classes into "HyFlex" learning, allowing students to attend classes in whatever way is best for them. 3. The latest TikTok trend. (Hint: It's a bones day!) Welcome to the NGA innovation podcast series, Ahead of the Curve, featuring NGA Chair, Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval and leading experts on energy and transportation technology transformation, for the 2017-2018 NGA Chair’s Initiative, Ahead of the Curve: Innovation Governors. This episode features a discussion with NGA and David Agnew from Macquarie about how public private partnerships can support innovation.
This month, Kyle and Erik talk about the work of script editor Anthony Read, who wrote one story under the pseudonym David Agnew (that one being season 15's "The Invasion of Time") and one under his own name (that being season 17's "The Horns of Nimon"). We find the merits (or demerits) in both of these stories, and talk about mazes both TARDIS and mythical & Greek.
The cars of the future were on full display at CES 2018 in Las Vegas. David Agnew of Hyundai Mobius explains how autonomous driving can be used to prevent fatalities, while Florian Baur of Byton introduces the world to the company's innovative car concept.
To do the long reign of the Fourth Doctor justice, we're sticking with Tom Baker again this month, jumping ahead to 1979, his penultimate season, for one of the greatest Doctor Who stories ever mounted: “City of Death,” credited to the pseudonym ‘David Agnew,' but which was mainly written by then-script editor and Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy writer Douglas Adams. One of the great humorists of all time, Adams' voice is apparent throughout this wonderful, zany, insanely compelling story, which features Lalla Ward as companion Romana, famed actor Julian Glover as the lead antagonist, a terrific guest performance from Tom Chadbon as memorable one-off companion Duggan, and even an amazing cameo from John Cleese and Eleanor Bron. And much of it is shot on location in Paris, one of the few times Doctor Who has ever left England. If you've never seen a classic Doctor Who story, “City of Death” will make you a true believer – this is just about as good as TV gets. Subscribe to our YouTube Channel! Bad news… We’ve all been there before when something out of our control happens that dramatically changes the courses of our moment, day, year or lives. It can often be devastating, and have a lasting impact on our lives. As we’ve all heard from many people in many ways, in life it’s not about what happens to us, but rather how we react to it. Entrepreneurship at it’s very core is often born by or fuelled by bad news. It could be the bad news that the product or service you wanted or needed wasn’t available, and so you created it yourself. It could be the likely many bad news, mistakes and failures along the way that drive you to improvement and success. In the end, as in life, so too is entrepreneurship all about not what happens to you but how you react to it. In that sense, as in many others, David Agnew of Crawford Bay BC is very much an entrepreneur at it’s core. For most of his life he enjoyed a busy and successful business career in the oil and gas industry. In a matter of three days that all changed as he lost his eyesight. That’s when his business mind fired back up and he went through a typical lean start-up approach to getting back into the game. The end result is a creative and unique business, motivated by his bad news. His unique story is one any person who has ever received bad news or faced adversity should hear. Lose your sight and your former career due to an unforeseen medical condition? turn your life around? find a productive path forward, launch a new business and inspire others with your story? You Can Do That Here!
Nesta edição conversamos sobre o arco da série clássica, City of Death, da 17ª temporada, co-escrito por David Fisher, Douglas Adams e Graham Williams, sob o pseudônimo de David Agnew.
Chloe Agnew, the former lead singer of Celtic Woman who joined the show when she was just 15, sits down with Roísín to talk about growing up in the spotlight, her famous parents Twink (Adele King) and oboist David Agnew, and her career as a soloist, songwriter and actor. She returns to the stage on January 16th for her first major Irish concert at the National Concert Hall.
Yay 100 episodes. That’s the extent of our celebration. Kiyan and Dylan break into the triple digits and finish off season 15 AND put in two character retrospectives. What an episode! Ontario’s Colleges: Time to chart a new direction in higher education
#doctorwho @gossjam #tindogpodcast @DWBBCBooks The Doctor takes Romana for a holiday in Paris – a city which, like a fine wine, has a bouquet all its own. Especially if you visit during one of the vintage years. But the TARDIS takes them to 1979, a table-wine year, a year whose vintage is soured by cracks – not in their wine glasses but in the very fabric of time itself. Soon the Time Lords are embroiled in an audacious alien scheme which encompasses home-made time machines, the theft of the Mona Lisa, the resurrection of the much-feared Jagaroth race, and the beginning (and quite possibly the end) of all life on Earth. Aided by British private detective Duggan, whose speciality is thumping people, the Doctor and Romana must thwart the machinations of the suave, mysterious Count Scarlioni – all twelve of him – if the human race has any chance of survival. But then, the Doctor's holidays tend to turn out a bit like this. Featuring the Fourth Doctor as played by Tom Baker, City of Death is a novel by James Goss based on the 1979 Doctor Whostory written by Douglas Adams under the pen-name David Agnew. City of Death is one of the best-loved serials in the show's 50-year history and was watched by over 16 million viewers when first broadcast.

The Three Who Rule enjoy another slow news week with excess meanderings, needlessly extending the length of this week's instalment... however a slow news week coupled with a Classic Series commentary is a good thing. The lads turn their gaze to talking over the *cough* David Agnew *cough* masterpiece City of Death, heralded by Doctor Who fans as one of the best stories of our beloved show. Or at least as the highlight of Season 17. Ribald jokes and insightful analyses are paired like a meal with a fine French wine as we wander the streets of Paris. The Da Vinci Code was quite popular at the time this entry was originally produced. What a preposterous work of fiction that was. It's rather more interesting to note the Doctor's role in the production of the mulitple [authentic] copies of this noteworthy work of art. What? You weren't aware the painting hanging in the Louvre is a copy? Listen on weary traveller... We now present to you our 4th entry originally produced August 20, 2006.
