February 14, 2024 - Season 14, Episode 90 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. Hour 2: We looked into the idea of Kliff Kingsbury being the Steelers next offensive coordinator. We also got some well wishes from listeners with Mullsy being out today. We took calls on where fans think the Steelers are looking in the offensive coordinator search?  A report from the PG says the Steelers will be renewing the contract of Teryl Austin as the team's DC. We also found out that Pat Meyer was the Steelers run game coordinator. So, it wasn't Eddie Faulkner? We heard from more listeners on where the Steelers are heading.  Pirates insider Jason Mackey from the PG joined the show. Jason reacted to the Aroldis Chapman signing from last night. He said it was a move that completely came out of left field and nobody was expecting this. He thinks it was a way for the Pirates to pivot their approach a little bit and if this move can make them more aggressive with the bullpen opposed to starting pitching. He still thinks they can still complete a move to address the rotation before the season starts. He does not think the team will consider Trevor Bauer due to his baggage, but he thinks the conversation should be had. Jason thinks a pre-season trade is the most likely way the Pirates can add an arm. Jason gave a projection of their opening day rotation and when we could see Paul Skenes in the majors. Poni asked Jason if the Pirates will bring Rich Hill back, but he hopes their plans are a little bit higher than that.

He said while they're appreciative of the efforts of Mike Sullivan and Eddie Faulkner, the team will look externally for their next offensive coordinator and want somebody with play-calling experience. Tomlin also talked about the potential makeup of the 2024 QB room with Kenny Pickett going into next season as the starter, but the desire to create more competition for him. This could include bringing back Mason Rudolph who will hit free agency. Before we get to next season, Tomlin will likely have an extension in place and fielded questions about that as well. The name Klint Kubiak got tossed out there, who does have OC experience in Minnesota. What should the search look like?

Steve mentioned Bobby Slowik, who worked for PFF and is now one of the brightest offensive minds in football. Steve said players really shouldn't care about what their grades are from PFF, but he said it's pretty clear they do. The guys asked Steve how much teams utilize the PFF services and how it differs across the board.  Tomlin Tidbits – The final question of the Mike Tomlin press conference was about Pressley Harvin. Did the coach finally admit that they will make a change at the position? 

Hour 2 of the PM Team: Mike Mayock has not seen good offensive line play from the Steelers and is a significant reason why the Steelers are struggling. It doesn't bail Pickett out, but also does give a little pass to Matt Canada and Eddie Faulkner. He doesn't want to cast full judgment on Pickett because he hasn't watched every start. The protection is a major issue, but Chris doesn't think it's a good enough reason. The overall level of play from the offensive line is a more significant issue for him. Callers weigh in on the Steelers offensive line struggles. Should the Steelers have drafted offensive lineman years ago earlier in the draft? They neglected the position for a long time and are now paying the price for it. Rich Eisen of NFL Network joined the show. He will call the Steelers-Colts game Saturday. Rich said he should have tempered himself a little more when saying that you'd be out of your frickin' mind if you think the Steelers should fire Mike Tomlin. It looked worse after the New England loss. His phone after that game was UGLY. Rich understands the frustration. Rich saw a team in the preseason that had it all working. Rich on George Pickens: "His route tree is more horizontal than it needs to be." Rich did make the analogy to Tim Tebow how Kenny Pickett flipped the script in the 4th quarter. People Rich talk to don't see much from him and other quarterbacks are talked a lot so much more. "I'm just a huge Tomlin fan." - Rich Eisen. "Big Ben saying the old Steelers are dead, he had a lot to do with that." Rich thinks David Tepper would love Tomlin in Carolina.

In their first game without Matt Canada at offensive coordinator, the offense gained over 400 yards for the first time since 2020. The structure of the offense under new offensive coordinator Eddie Faulkner and play caller Mike Sullivan showed a real future for the offense to improve in the coming weeks. Pickett didn't throw a touchdown, but he had one of the best games he's played this season, while Harris ran hard and the offensive line blocked well to control the ball. Chris Carter explains why the offense's performance is sustainable, can be improved upon, and could very well be the start of the Steelers being a real AFC threat.Also, the Steelers' defense had another great game. "Bleav in Steelers" hosts Ike Taylor and Mark Bergin discuss the Pittsburgh Steelers offense gaining 421 yards in Sunday's 16-10 win against the Cincinnati Bengals.
