Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's why there's more contract drama for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Both defensive tackle Cam Heyward and Chris Boswell are seeking new contracts with the team, and haven't been participating in team practices. Does that matter to the team at all, and why does it seem like the Steelers are always in this situation with their star plays, including Heyward, who just got a new deal last year? Alan breaks it down. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Adam Crowley and Dorin Dickerson react to reports that K Chris Boswell wants another contract.
Steelers correspondent Mark Kaboly from The Pat McAfee Show joined the show. Mark says that Cam Heyward made it very hard to tell if he was holding out or not. He says the same with Chris Boswell. Mark also says that it was definitely Cam Heyward's agent that told Schefter about his situation. Cam Heyward didn't bet on himself when he signed the contract with the Steelers last year, and now that he was an all-pro again, he wants a raise. Mark also mentions that it's hard to form an opinion on the situation because nobody really knows what Heyward wants yet. More w/ Mark – Mark says that the Peat signing was for depth because the Steelers don't trust Seumalo to play all 17 games. He also says that Broderick Jones has looked better recently in practice. Tomlin said that Seumalo won't play tomorrow due to injury. Mark says that none of the stats you see about Rodgers in camp mean anything. More w/ Mark – Mark says that Shedeur being Deion Sanders' kid inflated his value. He also said that Tomlin raving about Sanders was a sort of smokescreen. Mark says to wait and see on Yahya black before jumping to conclusions. He says that he doesn't think Boswell will get a raise this year, but he thinks that they will work something out with Cam Heyward. Mark predicts that Jack Sawyer will pop in the preseason game.
Chris Boswell is getting out of this scot-free because Cam Heyward is taking up the headlines. How will this work out?
We started with more fallout about the Cam Heyward contract ‘dispute' that spurred up yesterday with the All-Pro wanting a pay raise. Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo from the PG joined the show. Ray said Cam Heyward had been present for the early stages of camp and nobody thought to ask about him working to the side because vets of his status get treated a little bit differently. Ray thinks both sides of the equation have an argument. Ray told us Chris Boswell has spent more time at the local Latrobe golf courses than on the practice field, but it doesn't change the fact that he is among the best in the game. Ray said this could get uncomfortable, but at the end of the day, they will be on the field. The Steelers signed Andrus Peat today, who could be an insurance policy for Broderick Jones. Ray said Yahya Black is the player he's most excited to watch on Saturday night.
We gave some time to the Chris Boswell news, sitting as the 11th highest-paid kicker in football. Poni said he is more sympathetic to Cam Heyward and his situation given how much he puts his body on the line. More calls. Steve Palazzolo from the 33rd Team joined the show. Steve said Cam Heyward is still a very good player and he is coming off an ‘incredible' 2024 campaign. Steve said the age with Heyward makes things tricky, but if it's for this year and next year, they can handle it financially. Steve joked that he hates discussing kickers, but when it is clear you have one in the top tier, like Chris Boswell, you should ‘hold your nose' and pay the player. Steve likes the Steelers addition of Derrick Harmon to the defensive front. Steve thinks the Will Howard injury is a big deal because it was a chance for the Steelers to see the reps in-game from their rookie QB. Why did Howard fall so far in the draft? Donny Football Debrief – Reports from training camp that Cam Heyward denied the media after practice today.

Steelers insider Mark Kaboly joined the show. Should the Steelers extend Chris Boswell? Mark doesn't think it will be this year. Boswell's consistency has been one of the best in football. T.J. Watt contract talks haven't gone far.
Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise reacts to ESPN's NFL quarter-century team released this week, which included only two Steelers on the 53-man roster. Why were Alan Faneca and Troy Polamalu the only names to make the cut? Did T.J. Watt deserve a spot over the Browns' Myles Garrett? And were names including Aaron Rodgers, Ben Roethlisberger, Le'Veon Bell, Antonio Brown, Chris Boswell, Cam Heyward, Hines Ward, James Harrison and Maurkice Pouncey snubbed?
