Locked On Steelers – Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Steelers
Chris Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast, and is joined by former Steelers linebacker Arthur Moats. Joey Porter Jr. is more than just a nice story for the Pittsburgh Steelers, he's the future of how their cornerbacks will play. Former Steeler Arthur Moats shares his insight into not only Porter Jr. as a player and NFL Draft prospect, but also stories about Porter when he was a child who hung around his dad, Joey Porter Sr., and the team. What Porter brings with Patrick Peterson could be a new look for how important cornerbacks have been in Mike Tomlin's defenses. Could this usher in a new era for Pittsburgh? Also, Keenau Benton and Nick Herbig are two additions up front for the defense. How will they fit in early on next to the likes of Cam Heyward and T.J. Watt? Chris Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast. The Pittsburgh Steelers added Keanu Neal and Breiden Fohoko recently in free agency, which shows a priority for role players like Patrick Peterson, Elandon Roberts and other signings. But those moves set up the chance for Omar Khan to target more X-factor type NFL Draft picks who have high ceilings. Does that mean the Steelers will be more willing to trade up in the first round? That could be the only way the Steelers have a chance to draft Devon Witherspoon, Christian Gonzalez, Peter Skoronski, Broderick Jones, or Paris Johnson Jr. Either way, the way the Steelers have built their roster shows they can get aggressive and not just go for players who have high ceilings. Also, it's Mock Draft Monday. This week's pick features Joey Porter Jr. as a pick, but why would he be a better choice than other second tier cornerback prospects? We caught up with eight-time Pro Bowl defensive back Patrick Peterson, one of the NFL's best golfers, to chat about his best golf stories with Larry Fitzgerald, which includes the two changing in the car to go play Chicago Golf Club. Peterson tells us why Fitzgerald stopped playing him for money, how his handicap (and Aaron Rodgers') might be a little iffy, plus what it's like to play matches with Michael Jordan. Plus, Peterson makes his case for (finally) getting into the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am field.

He doesn't think it makes sense for a team to trade for Jackson, but instead go the offer sheet route. He said losing Lamar would be a "massive setback" for the Ravens to lose him. He thinks the Colts are a leading candidate to get Lamar Jackson. He doesn't think it will happen until or after the draft. Brad said that he would make Lamar Jackson the highest paid QB in the NFL. Locked On Steelers – Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Steelers
Chris Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast, and is joined by Alan Saunders of SteelersNow.com. Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin detailed the team's plan at safety to include free agents, NFL Draft picks, and the possibility of Patrick Peterson's versatility playing a role alongside Minkah Fitzpatrick and Damontae Kazee. Does this mean Alabama's Brian Branch or Texas A&M's Antonio Johnson are part of the plan? Or does the plan call for a coverage linebacker who can help against the run like Clemson's Trenton Simpson, Iowa's Jack Campbell or Arkansas' Drew Sanders? The role Terrell Edmunds left vacant could become another hole that becomes a problem for the Steelers if not filled by Omar Khan. Also, Lamar Jackson requested a trade from the Baltimore Ravens. Did Mike Tomlin tip his hand at some Steelers draft plans? The Steelers don't have a replacement on the roster for Terrell Edmunds and there aren't many names left on the open market. Is there a thought to move Patrick Peterson to move to safety? Chris threw out the name John Johnson, who had a few bad years in Cleveland, but otherwise has been a good NFL player. The likelihood is that the Steelers will draft a guy in the early rounds to play safety.

Is this another ball drop from the Fenway Sports Group? There was a fair amount of Capitals fans in the crowd and it seemed like the crowd gave him a decent reaction. Chris didn't have an issue with it and thinks it's better than the phony handshake line after a playoff series. Callers upset with Mullsy.

Locked On Steelers – Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Steelers
Chris Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast. The Pittsburgh Steelers' free agency moves addressed several needs on the roster, but there's a common thread in Omar Khan and Mike Tomlin finding detailed leaders to help with the team's locker room culture. Patrick Peterson, Elandon Roberts and Cole Holcomb have each worn captain patches for their teams and been vocal leaders and leaders by example. Isaac Semaulo also projects to be a leader for the Steelers' young offensive line. All of this appears to be a plan to develop a strong Steelers locker room around Kenny Pickett, Najee Harris and the future of the franchise. Also, it's a mailbag episode where fans called into the show, and now their answers can be heard. Questions on whether the Steelers should re-sign Terrell Edmunds or draft Brian Branch at safety; whether the Steelers really upgraded at linebacker with Holcomb and Roberts over Myles Jack, Devin Bush and Robert Spillane; what kind of cornerback should the Steelers draft now that they've signed Peterson, and could it be a slot? Also, Chris Carter's thoughts on the Cincinnati Bengals signing Orlando Brown Jr. in free agency and why it shouldn't worry the Steelers' pass rush too much. March 17, 2023 - Season 13, Episode 102 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this late Thursday night show, Alex Kozora and I get right to talking about the first full day of the 2023 NFL league year that took place on Thursday that included the Pittsburgh Steelers agreeing to terms with yet another outside unrestricted free agent linebacker. We begin our discussion by passing along the Thursday news of the Steelers deciding to cut veteran inside linebacker Myles Jack after one season. We discuss the move in its totality, how much salary cap space was saved with that transaction, and more. The Steelers did agree to terms with inside linebacker Elandon Roberts, formerly of the Miami Dolphins, on Thursday, so we spend a lot of time discussing the tape we have both watched of him from the 2022 season. We go over what his signing would mean and what impact, if any, it might have on the position when it comes to the 2023 NFL Draft. Two newly signed Steelers, cornerback Patrick Peterson and guard Nate Herbig, held their introductory press conferences on Thursday so Alex and I discuss the key takeaways from those two media sessions in this show. The Steelers have now restructured the contract of safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, so we go over the details related to that move in this show. Additionally, the new contract numbers for safety Damontae Kazee surfaced while recording this episode so we make sure to pass those along. The Steelers were busy on the 2023 Pro Day circuit again on Thursday so as usual, Alex and I discuss who from the organization we spotted earlier in the day and where. We mix in other Steelers talk throughout this episode that is not noted in this recap post.
Locked On Steelers – Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Steelers
Chris Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast, and is joined by Jenna Harner of WPXI-TV. The Pittsburgh Steelers cut linebacker Myles Jack and signed linebacker Elandon Roberts Thursday, creating a linebacker blowup. Only Mark Robinson remains as a backup for all the linebackers who played for the Steelers in 2022. What's the plan for Omar Khan and Mike Tomlin to re-shape the defense? Is a linebacker pick a guarantee with players like Clemson's Trenton Simpson, Arkansas' Drew Sanders, and Iowa's Jack Campbell in the NFL Draft plans for the Steelers? Also, new cornerback Patrick Peterson and guard Nate Herbig signed their contracts with the Steelers and spoke to media. Both seemed excited to fit in with the Steelers' locker room and Peterson spoke about leadership. Could that hint towards the Steelers' plans to draft an early cornerback like Illinois' Devon Witherspoon, Penn State's Joey Porter Jr., or Kansas State's Julius Brents? Locked On Steelers – Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Steelers
Chris Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast. The Pittsburgh Steelers signed linebacker Cole Holcomb Wednesday, adding to a free agency class with Patrick Peterson, Nate Herbig, Larry Ogunjobi, and Damontae Kazee. But when looking at the finances of these moves, what do they signal for Omar Khan's plans for the rest of free agency and the NFL Draft? The writing is on the wall. Meanwhile, the Cincinnati Bengals made a big move to sign offensive tackle Orlando Brown to a huge contract to protect Joe Burrow. Reports show the Steelers made contact with Brown's camp. Does that mean the Steelers put a bid in for Brown? Or just kicked the tires? Either is a possibility, but if they actually were willing to pay a big deal and were just outbid, that could signify a big move could be coming soon in free agency. Finally, Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter's draft stock appeared to take another negative hit Wednesday as he failed to complete his pro day performance and appeared nine pounds overweight, while not looking to be in his best shape. Could he fall to the Steelers? Probably not, but if he drops a little bit, it could change the draft plans of other NFL teams picking ahead of the Steelers, and open up prospects that were thought to be too good to fall to the 17th overall pick in the first round when the Steelers can make their first selection. Locked On Steelers – Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Steelers
Chris Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast, and is joined by Josh Taylor of KDKA-TV and 93.7 The Fan. The Pittsburgh Steelers made three moves Tuesday to re-sign Larry Ogunjobi and Damontae Kazee, solidifying the team's turnover emphasis for the defense. Omar Khan and Mike Tomlin appear to be keeping the key players to set a strong tone for the defense in 2023 and use the new focus of the defense with Patrick Peterson and Minkah Fitzpatrick to prioritize the ability to create turnovers to counter teams/quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills, and Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals. Also, who is Nate Herbig? He's a large offensive lineman who's good at run blocking and out of the past of Steelers front office man Andy Weidl. But can Herbig overtake Kevin Dotson at the left guard position? Finally, are the Steelers not acting fast enough to sign an off-ball linebacker? Azeez Al-Shair, Kyzir White and Leighton Vander Esch all signed with other teams, which leaves the Steelers with few options. What's the front office plan for the all-important position? Locked On Steelers – Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Steelers
Chris Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast, and is joined by Alan Saunders of SteelersNow.com. The Pittsburgh Steelers hade a cornerback shakeup to open free agency by gaining Patrick Peterson and losing Cameron Sutton. The switch brings in an older cornerback for a younger one, but is it the right move for Omar Khan and Mike Tomlin? Peterson will be 33 years old at the start of next season, but the tape and the analytics shows he can still be a big part of the Steelers' defense. Also, does Peterson's signing guarantee cornerback is an early NFL Draft pick for the Steelers? Not so fast, says Alan Saunders. He and Chris Carter debate the importance of the position with the cornerback class and the other needs the Steelers have. Finally, which position do the Steelers make their next free agency move to address? Linebacker and defensive line look like enticing moves. But there are reasonable candidates. Who are they? Watch/listen to find out. CALL INTO THE SHOW AT 412-223-6644 or if international, e-mail your audio message to LOSTEELERSTOPICBAG@GMAIL.COM Follow Chris Carter on Twitter: @CarterCritiques. If you have two minutes to spare, dear listeners, please use them to fill out this Daily Delivery survey. Introduction: The Vikings are making some necessary and hard choices this offseason to get younger and shed salary with an eye toward the future. But in losing key players like Adam Thielen, Dalvin Tomlinson, Eric Kendricks and Patrick Peterson (so far), it sure looks like we are very much into the "rebuild" part of the "competitive rebuild" philosophy brought in a year ago. Also, does the signing of a blocking tight end Monday signal a shift in the running game? 9:00: Host Michael Rand is joined by Chip Scoggins and Carlos Gonzalez of the Star Tribune for a behind-the-scenes look at how they told the story of Maple Grove's journey to the boys' hockey state tournament. 29:00: A much-needed win for the Wolves and two departures for the Gophers men's basketball team.
Patrick Peterson for Cam Sutton can be a fair trade, so to speak, under certain conditions. We go over the early details related to his two-year deal that are out there, what he brings to the Steelers and what all he had to say on Monday to former Pittsburgh cornerback Bryant McFadden during their podcast episode.Alex and I have both watched a little bit of tape on Peterson since he agreed to terms with the Steelers and go over what we observed.
