On the Wednesday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Edgar Snyder & Associates, the Post-Gazette's Christopher Carter and Adam Bittner react to Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers announcing his intent to retire after 2025. Is he serious? Or is there still room for him to return if things go well? And would GM Omar Khan and coach Mike Tomlin even want him back as they look toward a long-term solution at the position in the form of top NFL draft prospects like Arch Manning, Drew Allar, Nico Iamaleava, Cade Klubnik and Garrett Nussmeier in the NFL draft? Our duo tackles those questions, then analyzes players stepping into important leadership roles. Can Zach Frazier be a true foundation for the offensive line and aid in the development of players like Broderick Jones, Troy Fautanu and Mason McCormick? And will DK Metcalf bring a professionalism to the WRs room that's lacked in recent years from names like Antonio Brown, Chase Claypool, Diontae Johnson and George Pickens?
Alan Saunders and Zachary Smith discuss all things Pittsburgh Steelers. On today's episode, we discuss Smitty's vacation and Twitter hiatus, Aaron Rodgers' comments on the Pat McAfee Show, Pat Freiermuth stepping into his own as a leader on this team and Diontae Johnson's comments about playing in cold weather. Hour 1: The guys react to Oneil Cruz getting benched last night in Milwaukee. Should he play this afternoon? And Aaron Rodgers says that this upcoming NFL season will be his last. Hour 2: Who's a better teammate, Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson? What's a polite way to call someone fat? And there is a new controversy with George Pickens. Hour 3: Ray Fittipaldo and John Wehner join the show to talk Rodgers and Cruz. Can you get a good meal at a low-quality steakhouse? And Crowley says this is a big college football season for Steelers fans. Hour 4: Wednesday with Whaley! Who will benefit the most with Aaron Rodgers coming to the Steelers? The guys share airport stories. And does Dom need to lower his voice?
There has also been some former Steelers WR drama. George Pickens backed out of a youth camp he had scheduled last minute and has been replaced by, friend of the show, Pat Freiermuth. Diontae Johnson explained why he got suspended by the Ravens last year. It's laughable.
The Pirates are already down 4-0 in a Paul Skenes start and it has been accompanied by some ugly baseball. Mullsy said this game feels like a microcosm of how the two organizations are put together. Nick Gonzales had a horrendous attempt of a throw-home. The Brewers have several players that would be the Pirates best player. There has also been some former Steelers WR drama. George Pickens backed out of a youth camp he had scheduled last minute and has been replaced by, friend of the show, Pat Freiermuth. Diontae Johnson explained why he got suspended by the Ravens last year. It's laughable. Chris is tired of the Steelers wide receiver narratives that we hear every single year. Donny pointed out why everything happening with Diontae Johnson will only strengthen them. Is it ironic that they changed things up and traded for DK Metcalf this offseason? Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk joined the show. Chris wanted to ask Mike about the reports of collusion in the NFL in regards to guaranteed contracts. Mike said a lot of it was about the Deshaun Watson contract, in which the Browns gave him $230M guaranteed. Mike explained how just days after the Watson deal was signed, the NFL and the owners wanted to work together on not making the high-level guarantees the norm. Mike dove into some of the other details and how Russell Wilson is involved. Mike drew a comparison between an NFL collusion case and pro wrestling when it comes to fan impact. Mike hopes that people understand this is a pretty big deal – the biggest collusion case in pro sports in about 30 years. Mike said it will only become a bigger deal if the players make it that way. On the heels of the Aaron Rodgers comments yesterday, Mike doesn't think it would be smart to do his weekly Pat McAfee Show hit this year if he isn't interested in attention. Mike said Rodgers knows that his mystique will get people talking about him.
Diontae Johnson's tenure with the Ravens was short after we learned that he refused to enter the team's week 13 game against the Eagles. He had a chance to speak for himself earlier this week and the excuse wass somehow worse than anyone could have guessed.
Nick and Jonathan react to Diontae Johnson saying the Browns will roll with Kenny Pickett this season.
Nick and Jonathan are joined by Zach Harper of The Athletic. Then, they react to Diontae Johnson comments about Kenny Pickett, and JP gives out his weekly ‘Peterlin Pass.'
The Browns are giving wide receiver Diontae Johnson a chance to revive his career after a 2024 season that saw the former Pro Bowler bounce around, unable to stick with a team. Johnson spoke for the first time since signing with the Browns on Wednesday and Mary Kay Cabot, Ashley Bastock and Dan Labbe reacted to it on Wednesday's minicamp recap podcast. They also talked about Shedeur Sanders getting some second-team reps ahead of Dillon Gabriel, something we haven't seen yet to this point, and how much it matters. They wrap up the podcast by talking about Joe Flacco and the vibes around him as he's back in Cleveland and having fun. On the Friday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Edgar Snyder & Associates, Post-Gazette Steelers insiders Christopher Carter and Brian Batko draft an all-time Steelers flag football team ahead of that sport joining the Olympics for the 2028 games in Los Angeles. Does Ben Roethlisberger or Justin Fields make more sense at QB? Are Antonio Brown, Diontae Johnson and Santonio Holmes the top options at WR? And could Rod Woodson, Mike Hilton, Mel Blount, Troy Polamalu and Minkah Fitzpatrick form a fearsome defense? Our duo tackles those questions, offers thoughts on the end of another week of uncertainty around Aaron Rodgers and George Pickens' comments upon joining the Dallas Cowboys.
Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's the Steelers very intentional process of revamping the character of the team's locker room. The 2025 NFL Draft rookie class made their debuts in black and gold over the weekend, and they seem like yet another group of solid-character players -- the third straight such class of youngsters to come through the doors of UPMC Rooney Sports Complex under new general manager Omar Khan. At the same time, the Steelers have been finding ways to ship out the bad apples quicker than ever, sending Diontae Johnson out in 2024 with one season remaining on his second contract and jettisoning George Pickens this year with one year left on his rookie deal. It's enough of a trend that it feels intentional that the Steelers have heard the noise from the fans -- and from their own locker room -- about tightening up the ship, character-wise. Alan breaks it down. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

On the Friday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Edgar Snyder & Associates, Post-Gazette Steelers insiders Christopher Carter and Brian Batko analyze the team's numerous trades to send former top draft picks away in recent years. Including the deals that have sent George Pickens and Kenny Pickett elsewhere the past two years. Were Pickens, Pickett and others including Chase Claypool and Diontae Johnson bad NFL draft picks? Or did GM Omar Khan do well to move them in exchange for premium draft capital to build the team's future? Our duo tackles those questions, then previews rookie minicamp for incoming prospects including Derrick Harmon, Kaleb Johnson, Jack Sawyer, Yahya Black, Will Howard, Carson Bruener and Donte Kent. Then in the third segment, Chris welcomes undrafted free agent DJ Thomas-Jones to discuss his bid to make the team as a fullback out of South Alabama.
Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's the aftermath of Wednesday's trade of wide receiver George Pickens. Head coach Mike Tomlin took a lot of grief this offseason for promising to make changes and failing to deliver on that promise. That's not what he said, at any rate, but even taken at face value, the Steelers will enter the 2025 season with a new left tackle, an entirely new quarterback room, a new starting running back and a new starting wide receiver. Is that enough change for you? The decision to jettison Pickens, combined with recent similar moves with Chase Claypool and Diontae Johnson, also blows up a familiar taking point. It's pretty clear that there are consequences for bad behavior under Tomlin. Alan breaks it down. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

On his weekly Chipped Ham & Football podcast, Post-Gazette Steelers insider Brian Batko welcomes Akron Beacon Journal Browns insider Chris Easterling to discuss the AFC North rival's chaotic offseason that has former Steelers at the center of it. What is going on with Kenny Pickett and the crowded QB room? Where does he fit in with names including Deshaun Watson, Joe Flacco, Dillon Gabriel and lightning rod Shedeur Sanders? Why did GM Andrew Berry and coach Kevin Stefanski decide to sign Diontae Johnson despite his strange journey since last offseason? What's going on with Devin Bush following his arrest? And how will draft picks including Mason Graham, Quinshon Judkins, and Dylan Sampson help the cause? Our duo tackles those questions and more.

We've completed our first 12-team, 3-WR, PPR mock draft since the conclusion of the NFL Draft and we've got some major takeaways (2:10) including the strength of the running back position compared to wide receiver, and it's even stronger now that Ashton Jeanty, Omarion Hampton, RJ Harvey and the other rookies have been added. We also have a lot of news and notes (10:30) on George Kittle, JK Dobbins and Diontae Johnson among others ... Let's review the mock draft starting with Round 1 (19:50) which does include Jeanty. Should he go before Puka Nacua and Nico Collins? Then we're on to Round 2 (25:30) and Round 3 (28:50) as Travis Hunter comes off the board. Was that too early? In Round 4 (31:00), we begin a run of rookie RBs but also we might be seeing a dropoff at the WR position ... We look at Rounds 5 (39:30) and 6 (47:40) and debate TreVeyon Henderson vs. Harvey. Plus, the rookie tight ends were drafted too early. And we finish by taking a look at most of the rookies (52:00) who were selected in this mock draft and what we think of the value. Cam Skattebo vs. Jaydon Blue, when to draft Tre Harris, how to draft Jaguars RBs and more ...
