Weekend Review: Joyeuse Triumphs, Sir Gino Blow, Elliott's Sweep, L'Eau du Sud's Arkle Push, Flops & Pops

In this weekend review of The Final Furlong Podcast, Emmet Kennedy, Adam Mills, and Katie Young break down the biggest moments from a thrilling few days of racing. L'Eau du Sud has surged to second favouritism for the Arkle following victory in the Kingmaker Novices' Chase. Are Dan Skelton's Cheltenham chances looking stronger than ever, or are there concerns for his stable stars? We also react to the news that ante-post favourite Sir Gino is out for the season. Could Only By Night emerge as a player in the Arkle after her win in the Agatha Christie Mares' Novices' Chase, or will she face limits in the Mares Chase as Katie predicts? Meanwhile, Gordon Elliott dominated at Navan with a 1-2-3 finish in the Grade 2 Novice Hurdle, but which of his runners looks like the top Cheltenham contender? Elsewhere, Joyeuse's victory brought Nicky Henderson his seventh Newbury Handicap Hurdle win and another winner for the podcast, but with Cheltenham ruled out due to new BHA regulations, will she become a Champion Hurdle star like her famous relative, Epatante? Plus, we review 20/1 shot Royale Margaux's victory and Djelo's Denman Chase win. What do their performances mean for the Ryanair Chase picture? We also have a 10/1 Cheltenham bet and discuss a potential contender for the Champion Bumper. The Final Furlong Podcast is proudly brought to you by Geoff Banks Bet. George Elek is joined by Ed Quigley and Danny Archer who calls in from sunny Morocco to preview the UK Christmas racing schedule from Kempton. The guys take a look at both the 26th and 27th, as well as a look at the Welsh Grand National from Chepstow and a brief look at the action from Leopardstown in Ireland. The King George takes centre stage as ever at Kempton with Bravemansgame and L'Homme Presse at the top of the market with the former current favourite at a best price of 15/8 but as short as 13/8 in places. Hitman is another in the field who takes Ed's eye as Paul Nicholls looks to win the race for a record 13th time, lining up with Bravemansgame and Frodon also to complete his treble. After being abandoned due to frozen ground last week, the Long walk Hurdle was added to Kempton's card. Champ and Paisley Park retain favouritism with the former looking to go back-to-back having won it last year. Both Danny and Ed have their reservations and are looking elsewhere for this one. McFabulous is the favourite to land the Kauto Star Novices' Chase next up and now into 11/10 having been as big as 13/8.The Christmas Hurdle gives us another chance to see the brilliant Consitution Hill in action as he takes on Epatante once more. The question in this one is how many will line up on the day itself with ten entered at present. The final race on the card at Kempton is the Ladbrokes Handicap Hurdle with Danny Archer very keen on Theatre Glory.Over at Chepstow on Tuesday meanwhile, Ed has his best bet of the festive period in the Welsh Grand National. George Elek is joined by Andy Holding to look ahead to Saturday's racing at Cheltenham with the annual International Meeting taking place. With frosty weather forecast overnight we're keeping everything crossed that the action will still go ahead. The day's card starts with the Triumph Trial Juvenile Hurdle at 12.05pm. At the time of recording three firms have priced the race up with Nusret the favourite at a best price of 6/4 compared to worst odds of 11/8. Scriptwriter and Perseus Way come next in the betting with 11 set to run. Andy is keen on Perseus Way here.Next up it's the Novices' Chase with just three declared. Monmiral is a heavy favourite, as short as 2/7 in places with a best price of 4/11 and has the in-form Harry Cobden booked for the ride. Kissesforkatie and Art Approval complete the trip at best odds of 7/2 and 10/1 respectively. The Handicap Chase looks a competitive affair at 1.15. Editeur Du Gite heads the field at 11/4 but 7 of the 8 runners are at single figure odds. Gumball, Thyme White and Dolos look the biggest threats. Third Time Lucki lines up too looking to bounce back from two disappointing runs at Ascot and Exeter. The Gold Cup Handicap Chase is another typically open looking affair. Harry Cobden rides 9/2 favourite Il Ridoto with Stolen Silver, War Lord, and Simply The Betts also declared and towards the top of the market. Cheddleton looks an interesting runner at 20/1, Rishi Persad was keen to get him on side when previewing the race on this week's episode of Racing Weekly. Andy meanwhile thinks Fern Hill is also overpriced at 20/1.The Grade 2 International Hurdle is the big race on the card with five declared to run. Epatante is the 6/4 favourite as she runs for the first time since her humbling defeat to Constitution Hill in the Fighting Fifth. I Like To Move It and Knappers Hill look set to provide her with a strong test and Andy throws First Street into the mix as well and thinks he's the one to be with. The penultimate race on the card is the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle. Weveallbeencaught and Outlaw Peter look set to contest this one with Thomas Mor and Grand Soir also declared. Andy thinks Outlaw Peter has a 'touch of class' and expects him to run in the Albert Bartlett at the festival in March. The day ends with the Mares' Handicap Hurdle. Nico de Boinville rides favourite Theatre Glory at a best price of 3/1. Martello Sky, Lady Adare and Nina The Terrier aren't far behind with all three between 4/1 and 11/2. Hosted on Acast. Stage Star is massively fancied for this one with the Grade 1 winner making his first appearance since winning on Chase debut at Warwick recently. He's currently a top price of 4/5 but as short as 4/6 in places. The second Grade 2 on Friday's card comes at 15:05 with the Long Distance Hurdle. Some familiar names line up in this one where Champ is between 11/8 and 15/8 depending on where you look. Next in the betting follow Proschema and Paisley Park at 3/1 and 9/2 respectively.Saturday's action has several highlights on the card. The second race of the day is the Grade 2 Coral John Francome Novices' Chase. Thyme Hill heads the market at 5/4 but Gelino Bello and McFabulous aren't far behind with four set to go to post.At 15:05 we've got the Coral Gold Cup. Corach Rambler has run just once since winning the Ultima at the Cheltenham Festival but appears primed for a big run. It's a typically open field for this renewal with joint favourites Threeunderthrufive and the aforementioned Corach Rambler at 7/1.Over at Newcastle we've also got the Fighting Fifth on Saturday. At the time of writing both Epatante and the mercurial Constitution Hill have both been declared after the latter was controversially withdrawn at Ascot last week.
