In this episode Robert van Altena has a conversation with Dan Walsh about Decoys his sixth solo show at Slewe Gallery (on view up until 17 may). Dan Walsh has brought from his studio in upstate New York a selection of his well known handmade artist books and a new collection of works on paper. The title 'Decoys' refers to these new works on paper. Decoy is a word that has its origin in Dutch, it is derived from ‘eendekooi' / duck cage. It is a cage used by hunters, and by association it got to mean the animal, either real or imitation, that was used to lure other animals. Dan Walsh chose the word decoy as a playful metaphor for the technique he used to make these new works. Each work is a monotype, a unique transfer from an original painting by Walsh, but in the transfer from painted plate or sheet to paper the original painting is lost. However since the transfer to paper was the goal, the derived imaged is the original. Image: Dan Walsh, 'Decoys #35' (2023), watercolour mono print on paper, 66 x 66 cm (Photo: Peter Cox). Today's guest is a serially successful human being who has founded multiple successful organizations. Dan Walsh is a Partner at Oakwolf Group and a Co-Founder of Team IMPACT. Dan joins Host Matt Benelli to discuss the importance of using rubrics and frameworks, recruiting and selecting the right people for the right role, why sales leaders should always be recruiting, the impact of personal responsibility and goal setting, and making sure you have a culture that allows a sales manager to be successful. Takeaways:Sales professionals should embrace the entrepreneurial mindset, acting as CEOs of their own territories, which involves ownership, risk-taking, and a strong belief in personal control over their success. The notion that entrepreneurship is reserved for a 'special breed' is a myth. Entrepreneurship is accessible to all, highlighting the importance of passion, resilience, and willingness to accept risks as key differentiators.Success in sales, like in entrepreneurship, relies heavily on self-belief and the conviction that personal actions dictate outcomes, reinforcing the idea of personal accountability and responsibility.Emphasize the need for continuous self-development, goal setting, and utilizing feedback effectively to enhance skills and performance with your sales team. The significance of recruiting the right talents, continuously improving the recruitment process, and ensuring the team's alignment with organizational values and goals. The critical role of asking the right questions as a leader to guide and motivate team members, rather than dictating actions. This approach enables team members to self-reflect and take ownership of their growth and results.Quote of the Show:“ I just worked harder and made more mistakes than everybody else to figure out what works.” - Dan WalshLinks:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/dan-walsh-381b195/ Oakwolf Group Website: https://oakwolfgroup.com/ Team IMPACT Website: https://www.teamimpact.org/ Shoutouts: Jon Hunter: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jhunter1/ Jon Hunter's Episode: https://coach2scale.transistor.fm/episodes/becoming-a-half-monk-half-hitman-seller-jon-hunter-coach2scale-episode-028 Ways to Tune In:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0Yb1wPzUxyrfR0Dx35ym1A Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/coach2scale-how-modern-leaders-build-a-coaching-culture/id1699901434 Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy50cmFuc2lzdG9yLmZtL2NvYWNoMnNjYWxlLWhvdy1tb2Rlcm4tbGVhZGVycy1idWlsZC1hLWNvYWNoaW5nLWN1bHR1cmU Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/fd188af6-7c17-4b2e-a0b2-196ecd6fdf77 Podchaser: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/coach2scale-how-modern-leaders-5419703 YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@Coach2Scale CoachEm™ is the first Coaching Execution Platform that integrates deep learning technology to proactively analyze patterns, highlight the "why" behind the data with root causes, and identify the actions that will ultimately improve business results going forward. In what looks to me like one of the biggest overcommitments of guests on this podcast and participants in the Spodek Method, Dan shares that to free his mind for meditation, he ended up selling his motorcycle and Playstation. Then we spoke about coaching and leading people to reach their potentials, which he experienced on the receiving end in reaching the Olympics twice and does now with others, and he appreciates me doing in corporations and on sustainability. You'll hear we both admire each other and are learning from each other.A curious note: you'll hear me puzzled at his tone, which I couldn't place. It didn't convey the sense of accomplishment and freedom his words did. We're still getting to know each other.I also think he expects acting more sustainably to take more time and money, when I find it frees both. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
If learning what it's like to watch your team win an Olympic gold medal from the sidelines isn't enough, and if learning what it's like to grow up in a family beset with poverty and addiction before reaching Olympic level competition isn't enough, and if learning what it's like after four more years to win an Olympic medal isn't enough, I'd say the best part of our conversation comes after all that. Then we talk about bringing out the best in others as a coach. How do you find out how to coach each person, athlete, executive, or otherwise? How to you lead a team to give to their potential? How do you keep everyone motivated? How do you keep yourself motivated? We both deeply appreciate each other's experience. You'll hear us trying to learn from each other. I want to learn how to shift sustainability, which everyone gives lip service to, from trying to avoid losing to winning by having fun, giving everything we've got, learning our deepest values, and acting on them. Dan does those things.Dan's home page Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Bret and Matt are joined by Brent Baude and Dan Walsh from Red Hat to talk about the latest with Podman, Quadlet, Podman Desktop and Podman machine, and how it all works with Kubernetes.-------------------------------------★ Enroll now for my next Live course, GitHub Actions + Argo CD, scheduled for July 10-21. Go to bret.courses/autodeploy to sign up. ★------------------------------------Dan Walsh, a Senior Distinguished Engineer at Red Hat, has been working with containers since the beginning. He's a contributor to Docker, Project Atomic, SELinux, and a lot more. He literally wrote the book on Podman. Brent Baude, is a Senior Principal Software Engineer at Red Hat and an architect and a primary maintainer of Podman, and contributes to many of its associated technologies like CRI-O, Buildah, and Skopeo. We go through a lot of tooling in this episode because Red Hat has taken a different stance than Docker in how it delivers its container tooling. You might say they take the approach of the Unix philosophy of every program does one thing well. Most of us know Docker and how it bundles many things related to containers into a single command line and daemon, yet some would prefer to isolate pieces of container management functionality into discreet, smaller programs - one for building images, one for running containers, one for communicating with registries, one for adding a GUI to your container manager, and one for managing the container VM. It's just sort of how I would break down the Podman ecosystem. And while that may seem like a lot of things, it's basically what Docker does for you in a single tool, yet the isolation of these tools is what can make them purpose-fit when you only need a fraction of the functionality of Docker. For example, one of Podman's core tenants is that it tells systemd to run your pods, which is the initialization process on most Linux distributions. In this way, your containers become more like standard system processes, rather than the Docker way of running all containers under the Docker Daemon process itself. Now many of us have heard of the other two original Red Hat container projects, Skopeo and Buildah, but there's now an increasing number of things the Podman ecosystem can do. So I'm grateful to Dan and Brent for coming on to break down the new parts of this toolkit and how we might use them.Live recording of the complete show from April 20, 2023 is on YouTube (Ep. #212).★Topics★Podman WebsitePodman Desktop WebsiteDan Walsh's book, Podman in ActionPodman Machine referenceQuadlet Blog PostPodman and Quadlet Blog PostSupport this show and get exclusive benefits on Patreon, YouTube, or bretfisher.com!★Join my Community★New live course on CI automation and gitops deploymentsBest coupons for my Docker and Kubernetes coursesChat with us and fellow students on our Discord Server DevOps FansGrab some merch at Bret's Loot BoxHomepage bretfisher.comCreators & Guests Bret Fisher - Host Cristi Cotovan - Editor Beth Fisher - Producer Matt Williams - Host Brent Baude - Guest Dan Walsh - Guest (00:00) - Intro (06:20) - Dan's history with containers (12:46) - The recommended way to get Podman (13:49) - Podman Machine (15:21) - How is Podman Machine installed (18:37) - How is Podman organised (21:16) - Podman Compose explained (27:15) - Podman Desktop (30:46) - Podman and Docker extensions (32:10) - Support for Kubernetes YAML (38:48) - Podman and systemd workloads (44:38) - How to get started with Podman (53:32) - Overlaying networks with Podman

The Bonk release their second album, Greater Than or Equal To, on Friday, May 12. Band leader Phil Christie joins to talk about making the record. Mainly comprised of tracks recorded at Big Skin in Cork City in 2017 and Ailfionn Studios in Drumcondra in late 2018, Christie teamed up with a slew of fellow musicians on this album, including Niamh Dalton on fiddle, Andrew Grant on clarinet, Ultran Lavery on organ, Brendan Fennessy on percussion and guitarist Alan Comerford. That's alongside regular The Bonk members Jim Christie, Patrick Freeman, Philip O'Gorman, Dan Walsh, and Robert Grant. It is a pleasure to welcome Dan Walsh to The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast. Born and raised in North St. Louis, Missouri, Dan began comedy in 2004 while deployed to Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom II. During downtime, Dan would perform for fellow Marines, Soldiers, and Sailors to maintain morale. Dan also spent 14 years as a pro wrestler on the independent circuit, which helped form an even more robust understanding of crowds while performing. From 2007 to 2010, he appeared on various MTV competition shows. He starred in Road Rules 2007: Viewers' Revenge as a part of the Pit Crew. Next, he moved on Real World/Road Rules Challenge, where he competed on The Island and The Challenge: Cutthroat. On Cutthroat, Dan was on the Grey Team with longtime friend Abram Boise and future show legends Cara Maria Sorbello, Laurel Stucky, and Sarah Rice. While he was on the team, they won three challenges, but Red Team member Dunbar Merrill sent Dan home in the Gulag challenge: “Die Hard,” near the end of the season. In this edition of The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Dan Walsh spoke about his Road Rules casting story, appearing on one of The Challenge's controversial seasons: The Island, and how his experience on that show saved his life. He gave his take on some of the late-night television's most prominent emcees and spoke about working in the stand-up comedy world.
