Fear of the unknown has always been a source of crippling anxiety for puny humans, and it pays to scry the future at any available moment. Whether you've got one eye on the 3:30 at Chepstow, on that recent headline about an escaped leopard, or on that pair of plimsolls in the window of Freeman Hardy & Willis for Saturday afternoon, you simply can't out-run destiny (and those plimsolls look great #BuyTheThings). Yes, the mists are clearing at The Peggy Mount Calamity Hour as our hosts return once again to their beloved Paradise Lodge and find that You're Only Young Twice. A visiting clairvoyant brings dire forebodings to those who treat her less than reverently, and since that's Flora default-setting it's safe to predict trouble by tea-time... How culturally insensitive is it to write A Locationally Undisclosed Foreign Character™ into your sitcom if the associated performer doesn't even attempt a remotely recognisable accent? How fast can you make an elderly woman ride a motorcycle down a cobbled street before the insurance overseer has a fit of the vapours? And how is Blackout supposed to plan a road-trip if Geography as we know it is a mere construct of Yorkshire Television? Press Pause, consult Google Maps, press Play then find out... Before billionaires dreamed of setting up communities on Mars, the ocean was seen as the next frontier in human habitation. Reviving this dream is Deep, a project backed by an anonymous millionaire to the tune of more than £100m that aims to establish a ‘permanent human presence' under the sea from 2027. Guardian Seascape editor Lisa Bachelor visited the project just outside Chepstow on the Welsh border, and tells Madeleine Finlay what scientists hope to learn about the ocean by spending extended periods living underwater. Throughout July, All Things Considered will be coming from the ancient boundary between Wales and England – Offa's Dyke. Each week, we explore a different section of the border as we travel from Chepstow to Prestatyn, joined by voices from the borders sharing their stories of faith, encounter and identity. This week Jonathan Thomas explores the idea of ‘borders' and identity, starting at St. Mary's Capel y Ffin. Here Jonathan meets Father David Wyatt at the tiny 'chapel on the border,' a focus of pilgrimage for centuries and the source of inspiration for William and Dorothy Wordsworth. Jonathan walks a stretch of the Offa's Dyke route with vicar and pilgrimage leader Simon Lockett. Starting at the Gospel Pass they head past Hay Bluff towards Llantony to discuss identity in the border lands. Jonathan speaks to pupils at Clyro Church in Wales School to hear their perspective on living on the borders. The children explain that they see borders as a point of connection, a place to forge new friendships and to hear different languages. Canon Dr Manon James of the St Padarn's Institute shares insights into her research into Welsh identity and border lands. At the end of the Offa's Dyke path Jonathan meets Baptist minister Rob Beamish to discuss journey's endings.

Well I Know Now with Pippa Kelly

Suzy Webster is very special. She's a mother, daughter, wife, and for many years carer to her mum, Barbara. In 2012, after Barbara developed dementia, she and Suzy's dad, Gordon, came to live with Suzy and her family in Chepstow. When I first met Suzy over a decade ago, I was struck by her quiet determination, her love for her family and her wonderful way with words. I can still remember her telling a conference that her parents had moved in with her and her family so that they could have “the dementia adventure together”. So simply put. Yet behind the phrase lay the endless reserves of love and courage that those of us who have followed Suzy and her mum's story have witnessed over the years. This is Suzy's third appearance on Well I Know Now and there is a sadness to this episode and a reason why Suzy is joining me once again. For late in 2022, having weathered the dangerous and turbulent years of the pandemic, Barbara died aged 75. Her death has, inevitably, left a massive void in her daughter's life.“Who am I now? What do we do without her? I began to grieve more than one mum; I missed holding her hand – as a little girl on the school run, as my go-to person in my young adult life, and her warmth as the constant presence in our lives as her dementia progressed,” Suzy told me. Adding, “Does that make sense?”It absolutely does, Suzy. And I'm sure it will resonate with many listeners. The death of a mother, a mum, touches places deep inside us, exposing emotions we didn't even know existed – at least that's what I found, and I'm pretty sure I'm not alone. In fact, whenever I talk to Suzy I know that I'm with someone who really understands, who knows what I went through with my mum, and I think this is why Suzy has proved such a popular guest. Others feel this too.Suzy and I are here today to talk about her loss, but also her future, her hopes and plans as she enters a new chapter of her life. Hosted on Acast. This week, join me for a special behind-the-scenes look into the first season of this podcast. We have a unique twist as my friend and colleague, Aly King-Smith, takes over the microphone and interviews me about my personal experience with podcasting and putting myself out there. In this candid and no-holds-barred conversation, we delve into what inspired me to start this project and the journey of experimenting and taking risks. My hope is that by sharing both the successes and challenges, you will feel inspired to step forward and pursue that dream role or project you've been longing for. During the episode, Aly and I cover a range of topics, including:Why I embarked on this podcasting ventureHow I go about finding guests for the showThe significance of 'unsaid conversations' and what it means to meReflecting on whether I would continue creating episodes even if no one listenedMy guest-turned-host, Aly King-Smith is Managing Director of Clearworks Coaching for leaders in STEM. She's also a writer and podcaster who successfully launched "A Listening Life" in 2022, to support coaches who are running out of steam commercially. Her mission is to raise the profile of sporty, older women, to remind the world that they're here, and that they're wonderful. Aly's on instagram @olderwilder and will be crowdfunding the podcast in September by walking the 180 miles of Offa's Dyke Path from Chepstow to Prestatyn while getting noisy about older sporty women. Nick is joined by RTE and Racing TV broadcaster Jane Mangan for the final Daily Show of 2022. They reflect on the notable landmarks posted over the last few days - Mullins, Buick, O'Brien - with particular focus on Willie Mullins's haul of Grade 1s, bolstered again at Leopardstown yesterday. Willie's brother Tom, who defeated him in the bumper with a 'for sale' homebred offers his thoughts on what he believes is his "most exciting horse since Menorah", and talks candidly about the need for smaller trainers to be traders to survive. Fergal O'Brien joins the show to talk about reaching the 100-winner mark for the season plus his three runners in Saturday's Challow Hurdle at Newbury, while Middleham Park's Tom Palin looks forward to Marie's Rock's return at Cheltenham Sunday. With encouraging attendance figures over the Christmas period, Chepstow's Phil Bell tells Nick why closer links with Welsh government during the pandemic may have helped raise racing's profile in Wales. Plus, Jane gives her four fancies for the big Festival races with the Christmas action in the rearview.

Bruce Millington is joined by Graeme Rodway and Mark Boylan to preview the festive racing action from Kempton, Chepstow and Leopardstown. The panel begin by previewing Monday's Boxing Day card at Kempton, which hosts four Grade 1s including a cracking-looking King George VI Chase. Is it between the top two in the market or do Mark and Graeme think an outsider could land the spoils? Chepstow's highlight is Tuesday's Welsh Grand National and the team agree on the same horse in one of the festive period's biggest handicap chases. Across the Irish Sea, Leopardstown puts on some top-quality action for racing fans. Graeme Rodway thinks we may be treated to the Willie Mullins show. The team end the show by giving their best bets for the Christmas period. 18+ BeGambleAware https://www.racingpost.com/landing/offers/members-club-welcome-offer/?utm_source=Video&utm_medium=UppingTheAnte&utm_campaign=MembersClubAcquisition&utm_content=AdVarA&utm_term=Null

George Elek is joined by Ed Quigley and Danny Archer who calls in from sunny Morocco to preview the UK Christmas racing schedule from Kempton. The guys take a look at both the 26th and 27th, as well as a look at the Welsh Grand National from Chepstow and a brief look at the action from Leopardstown in Ireland. The King George takes centre stage as ever at Kempton with Bravemansgame and L'Homme Presse at the top of the market with the former current favourite at a best price of 15/8 but as short as 13/8 in places. Hitman is another in the field who takes Ed's eye as Paul Nicholls looks to win the race for a record 13th time, lining up with Bravemansgame and Frodon also to complete his treble. After being abandoned due to frozen ground last week, the Long walk Hurdle was added to Kempton's card. Champ and Paisley Park retain favouritism with the former looking to go back-to-back having won it last year. Both Danny and Ed have their reservations and are looking elsewhere for this one. McFabulous is the favourite to land the Kauto Star Novices' Chase next up and now into 11/10 having been as big as 13/8.The Christmas Hurdle gives us another chance to see the brilliant Consitution Hill in action as he takes on Epatante once more. The question in this one is how many will line up on the day itself with ten entered at present. The final race on the card at Kempton is the Ladbrokes Handicap Hurdle with Danny Archer very keen on Theatre Glory.Over at Chepstow on Tuesday meanwhile, Ed has his best bet of the festive period in the Welsh Grand National.
