Once upon a time, Clemson was preparing for a game against LSU and not many folks gave the Tigers a chance. Eric Mac Lain was a player then, back in December of 2012, and he remembers how a brutal few weeks of bowl practices ended up giving Clemson the mental and physical toughness to hang with Les Miles' powerhouse program. The 25-24 triumph will always go down as one of the landmark breakthroughs of the Dabo Swinney era. "We went into that game wondering who we were and what we were about, and then we decided to kick the door down," Mac Lain said. Is a similar breakthrough possible Saturday night in Baton Rouge? Mac Lain thinks so, and he explains why in a return visit to The Clemson Dubcast.

Eric Mac Lain from the ACC Network joined us to preview NC State at Virginia, and he picked the Cavaliers. But the part worth staying for is what he said about Dave Doeren. Asked about the fans who want a change, a national voice with no stake in it said what a lot of Wolfpack fans will not: you have had double digit wins once, ever, he is the best coach you have ever had, so why are you trying to get rid of him?His score is 24-21 Virginia, though he also thinks that if CJ Bailey is feeling it this could be a Wolfpack blowout, and that there is no middle outcome he can picture. He says the biggest thing NC State did all offseason had nothing to do with the transfer portal. It was keeping Bailey home, and how Bailey said it.Plus why Virginia's offensive line is the best in the ACC on paper, why he would force Beau Pribula to beat him with his arm, what Cam Robinson coming back changes, which coordinator battle he is watching, and the thing fans miss most when they watch offensive line play, from a man who was All-ACC at it.Mac Lain is a studio analyst on The Huddle, a former Clemson offensive lineman who holds the record for most wins by a single player in Clemson history, and a Hope Mills, North Carolina native. He will be in Charlottesville on Saturday with The Huddle crew, live at 10 AM out on the hill.3 days until NC State at Virginia.Follow Tuffy Talk wherever you listen, and catch us live every Monday at 8:30 PM on YouTube.Support the show on Patreon, 3 members-only videos a week for $5: patreon.com/c/tuffytalk#ad Powered by Oconee Gold BBQ. What in the world is going on with Clemson? Eric Mac Lain and Ellis Johnson have some thoughts. Mac Lain, who played offensive line for Dabo Swinney, is quite critical of the offensive line play he's seen thus far. He's also not sure what to make of Cade Klubnik's jittery presence over the first two games. Johnson, a former assistant at both South Carolina and Clemson, now lives in Clemson so he can be close to his son, a walk-on tight end for the Tigers. Johnson thinks the issues this team has shown thus far on both sides of the ball can be solved over the course of the season But he's not sure they can be resolved Saturday against Georgia Tech, a physically and mentally tough group that can make life extremely difficult on some of the inexperience Clemson has in the secondary. "Georgia Tech has been playing to their level of talent, and Clemson has not," Johnson said. "Hopefully they can get it turned around, but I think it's going to be a tough test for Clemson. I really do. "If they don't find a running game that they can lean on in critical times of the game, they're going to be in trouble."
Mike Johnson, Beau Morgan, and Ali Mac spend some time with former Clemson Football Captain and now college football analyst for the ACC Network and ESPN Eric Mac Lain!
