Message: This year, we will be focusing on finishing the race together. In our passage, Paul asked the Galatians you were running well, who hindered you? The answer is both the world, and you. That begs the question, how can we hinder each other? By discouraging instead of encouraging, by running in the wrong lane, and by having a little bit of, but not too much, disharmony. Scripture: Galatians 5:6-10 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love. You were running well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth? This persuasion is not from him who calls you. A little leaven leavens the whole lump. I have confidence in the Lord that you will take no other view, and the one who is troubling you will bear the penalty, whoever he is. opendoorla.org
The author of the letter to the Hebrews exhorts and encourages the church to persevere in the spiritual race set before us. In order to run this race well, we need to fix our gaze on Christ, build fortitude through our life experiences, and encourage one another to be faithful in the church. This enables us to face new challenges ahead, even if they remain uncertain to us. Preacher: Joel Sim Date: 31 December 2023

Finishing the Race2 Timothy 4:7,8Liberty Church BirminghamSunday, October 8, 2023Appreciation for Liberty Church – John Snow, David and Betty McCutchen and Ferrell Maughan were my first supporters, and continued after I married Jan. Bill Stamp, Bruce, Jeff Cato, and Ferrell visited us. Many wrote encouragement. Bill introduced us to Globe International in 85 and Liberty Fellowship the next year at Norman Park. Thank you, Bruce, for helping me finish this book. He suggested we launch it here today. And will be in the back room to sign copies for those who wish to make a donation for one to reach an Unreached people group in northern Mozambique. Providing local evangelists, trained by our German missionaries, motors cycles and bicycles to reach distant villages where you follow goat paths and cross torrent rivers in a canoe. – this book includes several events from here including one of Jerry Strong. How a German youth help a WWII vet get deliverance.Finishing the race – a scripture for finishing well, spiritual warfare, and funerals. What if it applies to God and is prophetic in a way that OT scriptures are? What if Paul writes it as pertaining to himself, but God inspires it because it also applies to Jesus and his work, specifically his work by the Holy Spirit in us? It could apply to his work on the cross, as well as his work through the church until the great and glorious day when he appears, and we all enter heaven. But that is a very western mindset to this problem. Always a focus on the winner! When you think of races like the Marathon, you don't know many if any of the participants. Eliud Kipchoge from Kenya holds the world record and 2 Gold medals in the Olympic Marathon will try for a 3rd in Paris next year. That seems to be focus of our society as we hold such accomplishments in high esteem. Selfish Ambition can easily become a downfall for anyone. But two races impress me and give me a new sense of understanding regarding Gods plans and intentions: the Iditarod race is a grueling difficult race in March in Alaska, and it is not over until the last team arrives at the finish line. The concern is for all to reach the goal! The Dream Marathon is unique in the fact that the established runners train the new runners personally 22 weeks before the race and when the first ones reach the finish line they return to the last ones and run with them encouraging them to finish as well! Here the whole idea is that the whole group is involved in the whole group! Look at this from God's perspective it is not over until all ethnic people groups, language groups, cultures, races, are represented at the marriage feast of the lamb! Until All who call upon the name of the Lord are saved, it is not over! Until all have heard and have had a chance to respond, the race is not over! It will not be accomplished without more dedicated career missionaries that is for sure! Pray to the Lord of the harvest that he will cast out more into the white, ready and prepared harvest fields! But we need more than those who will sacrifice to go, we need those who will commit to do the praying, encouraging, communicating, visiting, pastoring those who have gone! We need an army who see that church is not where we go to be entertained, but where we learn how to serve, how to invest in people, how to give what is needed in the Kingdom of God. It is not about a few doing the most, it is about us all moving together as the Holy Spirit directs us. Not listening to the myriad of voices but following the one! The task of reaching the Lost is our task together. Wherever they are found.

In this episode, we finish our discussion about physical and spiritual maturity and how God has designed each stage of life to have a specific purpose. In the last episode we discussed from birth to young adulthood/adolescence and in this episode, we focus on early adulthood, middle age, and being elderly. In early adulthood, we establish our household and our place in the world, in middle age, having established ourselves, we are able to reach out and have an impact beyond our home in the broader world, and in our final stage of life, we focus on establishing the next generation and handing over the responsibilities that we have taken on to those who come behind us. As in the last episode, we also look at this from a spiritual perspective and consider how in the stages of spiritual maturity those young in the faith grow into adulthood, finding their place in the church body, reaching outside in faithful duty to have a ministry that others can depend upon, and then nurturing, teaching, and committing to those who are the next generation within the church. "Each of us is given the exact same amount of seconds, minutes and hours per day as anyone else. The difference is how we redeem [them]. … You cannot count your days, but you can make your days count.” Billy GrahamAs we finish this "Raising The Standard" series, we are stopping at an important category...and one that the greater society can often neglect. The retirement years, the graying and elderly years; these are important years to see Christ modeled and displayed. For a man in this period of life, he must not assume his experiences do not matter. We need to hear about successes, mistakes and all. He should never just "hang it up" or live out the rest of his days on the golf course. And he should realize how he ends serves as an example to those around him. To see a godly man not compromise and not water down his faith is an amazing thing. To see him finish and pass onto eternity is a testimony to what God has done. Mentioned in this episode:Retirement blues: Taking it too easy can be hard on you article

When I was a young man in Highschool, I ran cross country as well as the 440 and 880 meter race in track. I learned quickly that life was much like running track in that endurance, perseverance and NOT looking back at where your competitor is but keeping your eyes focussed on the finish line ahead are at the center of any successful race. Today, I am going to show you through Hebrews 12 what it means to run the race God has for our lives and the importance of keeping our eye on the “race God has set before us” and not getting off track. We don't often think of what we want to be true of our lives at the end of them. But it is both healthy and helpful to gaze ahead to the end of our days to consider what is most important to us. For Paul, he found peace and contentment in being faithful to the end. Each of us have a unique part in the story of the Gospel. We can't control what part God gives us, but we can control what we do with that part. Each of us has the same opportunity to be faithful to the end.

Dear friends, grace to your and peace from Abba-God and the Lord Jesus Christ!Way back in mid-August, I introduced our Emotionally Healthy Relationships series imagining our spiritual lives as a marathon—a long, long race, or facetiously, a five-year mission to explore strange new feelings, seek new life in Christ's civilization, to boldly go where Christ has gone before! Since then, we've leaned into our biblical roots and drawn insights and tools from modern psychology, deepening our discipleship and growing in loving relationship with God and each other. And it's been good!To varying degrees, we've practiced…· Anchoring ourselves in the love of God by sitting quietly with God at least twice a day, beginning our mornings with God's voice in scripture and looking back at night to notice God's touch;· Then working the program: checking in with each other—staying connected through affirmations, puzzles, what we notice and prefer, hope and dream; · We've stopped mind-reading, clarified our expectations, and expressed our wishes gently and patiently; We've…· explored our families of origin—Jesus may be in my heart, but how does Grandpa (or Grandma!) still live in my bones?—· and looked beneath the surface of our lives to recognize the emotions in our bodies, minds, and hearts, letting them move through us instead of stuffing them down to come out sideways as illness or irritability. With growing awareness of what's going on in ourselves, our EHR group participants have begun to…· quiet ourselves to listen more deeply and fully to others;· clarify our values using a tool for self-examination and awareness called the “ladder of integrity;” and· put all these learnings together and become peacemakers who “fight clean.” We're learning to stand calmly, with “patient endurance” in our own God-given places, and to move through conflict in Christlike, calm, healthy ways with family, friends, and colleagues. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality lives the Jesus Way of Resting in God's Love and Following God's Lead. It isn't easy. But it is life giving and good.Support the show

Paul realizes that his death is near. To quote his words, he is being poured out like a drink offering. But Paul has fought the good fight, and he encourages Timothy to do the same. In today's episode, Pastor Jim explores perseverance and endurance in ministry and how for those who wait and watch and long for Christ to appear again, there is coming a crown of righteousness. Our hope is not based on what we accomplish but on our longing to be with Christ.
