Tal día como hoy, pero el 23 de diciembre de 1945, el Club Atlético-Aviación acogió a un combinado nacional en el Estadio Metropolitano para jugar el partido de homenaje a Ramón Gabilondo. Gabilondo jugó, como centrocampista, 211 partidos oficiales con el Atleti entre 1934 y 1946. Llegó fichado del R. Valladolid, donde debutó en 1928 y con el Atleti ganó 2 títulos de Liga consecutivos, los de las temporadas 1939-40 y 1940-41. Se retiró en 1946 como futbolista para dedicarse al ejercicio de la medicina, siguiendo ligado a la Federación como médico de la Mutualidad de futbolistas y, sobre todo, como técnico, pues llegó a ser entrenador de la  selección juvenil y de la absoluta durante 1 año y 4 meses. De las cosas de las que más orgulloso se sentía fue descubrir a Collar y ser un gran amigo de Gárate. En la Copa, el Atleti superó el trance del primer cruce ante el Atlético Balear con una victoria por 2-3. Partido sin mucha historia, más allá de certificar que hay ciertos jugadores que no tienen nivel para el Atleti, que tenemos un gran portero suplente en Musso y que Griezmann parece que tras el corte de pelo ha recuperado el olfato de gol y, que en el Marca siguen haciendo titulares con juegos de palabras más que previsibles. Esta ronda también ha servido para que unos cuantos primeras se apeen de la competición, que el Barça lo pasase regular, como el Atleti y, que los ciervos volvieran a experimentar lo que es ganar gracias a “errores arbitrales” que el VAR no puede corregir, vamos, robando como han hecho toda la vida. El próximo rival lo conoceremos el día  7 de enero cuando se celebre el sorteo de la eliminatoria de octavos de final a las 13:00. Tal día como hoy, pero el 11 de Noviembre de 1956, el Atleti venció al RCD Español por 8-1 en el Estadio Metropolitano, en partido de la 10ª jornada del campeonato nacional de Liga. Los goles locales fueron 3 de Peiró, 2 de Rafa, 2 de Agustín, y uno de Collar.  En Champions League el pasado martes, el Atleti venció por 3-1 al Royale Union Saint-Gilloise en partido de liga previa. Con dicha victoria el Atleti se coloca 17º con 6 puntos y un gol a favor en la diferencia. Fue un partido más complicado de lo que parecía sobre el papel y lo que presume el resultado. El equipo continua con aspiraciones a entrar entre los 8 primeros de la tabla y clasificarse para octavos de final. El próximo rival en esta competición será el Inter de Milán, en el Metropolitano, el próximo día 26/11 a las 21 horas. En la competición nacional Liguera, en partido disputado en el Metropolitano el pasado sábado a las 18:30, el Atleti logró,  frente al Levante por 3-0, la  4ª victoria consecutiva en Liga, que supone 11 partidos seguidos invictos, . Abrió el marcador en el minuto 12 Adrian de la Fuente con un gol en propia puerta, completó el marcador un doblete de Antoine Griezmann, que marcó a los 27 segundos de entrar en el campo en el minuto 61 y, remató la faena con el tercero en el minuto 80. Con este resultado el Atleti se sitúa 4º, a 6 puntos del líder (el Mal), 3 del segundo (Barça)  y 1 del tercero (Villarreal). Tal día como hoy, pero el 16 de Septiembre del 2017, se inauguró el Nuevo Estadio Metropolitano con partido oficial frente al Málaga C.F. El Atleti venció por 1-0 con gol de Antoine Griezmann en el minuto 60 tras asistencia de Ángel Correa.  El pasado sábado, en partido disputado a las 21:00 en el Estadio Metropolitano, el Atleti venció por 2-0 al Villarreal en el campeonato nacional de Liga gracias a los goles de Pablo Barrios en el  minuto 9 y, el debutante Nico González en el minuto 52. Tres puntos importantísimos tras los tropiezos en las primeras jornadas que nos sitúan en el decimoprimer puesto de la clasificación y, que esperemos, ayuden a devolver la confianza y a crecer al grupo. El siguiente partido que disputará el Atleti, será el próximo día 17 de septiembre, miércoles, a las 21:00, debut en Champions que se disputará en Anfield frente al Liverpool.
