We hear people say, “Salvation is free” or “Salvation is a free gift from God and all you have to do is receive it.” That is true in a way but our salvation wasn't free...it cost Jesus everything. He willingly gave his life as a ransom, a payment, for our sin so that we could go free. Paul says he was born under the law, which made him subject to it, but he chose not to sin, yet he became sin when he hung on the cross. He was persecuted, hated, despised, rejected, beaten, crucified, buried, and came out alive holding the keys to death and hell...and he calls us his children...if...we have given our lives to him and been clothed with him, receiving his Spirit in our hearts! Years ago, during a Toastmasters meeting, I heard someone boldly claim that freedom is free. This statement stuck with me, and over the years, I've realized just how misguided it is. Many people live under the illusion that freedom is a given, never questioning the unseen struggles that secure it. Today, I'll clear up this misconception and shed light on the true price of the freedom you enjoy. A      On this Memorial Day Weekend, we gather to think about something very simple yet very profound. Today, we want everyone to consider this truth: “Freedom Isn't Free.” This is something we emphasize every year, and this year is no different. It's a timeless truth. Freedom always comes with a price.    B    John 12:24 – “Jesus said, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.'” C    Here's an ironic paradox about death: “Death, as terrible as it is, in some cases, brings life.” In other words, the death of one thing sometimes brings life to another.”       Every Memorial Day weekend at Crossgate Church, we take time to remind ourselves that “Freedom isn't free,” and we do that along two lines.  ·    First, we remind ourselves that “national freedom isn't free.” Our national freedom has been bought and paid for by the blood of patriots and heroes. ·    Second, we remind ourselves that “spiritual freedom isn't free.” Our spiritual freedom has been bought and paid for by the blood of Jesus Christ and his death on the cross.

However, thankfully today we have a true American Hero joining us to remind us of his very own words, “America is worth living for, worth fighting for and if need be, worth dying for.” On March 8th, 1971 while serving in the United States Marine Corps in South Vietnam, Tim Lee gave both of his legs to America. However, instead of quitting or becoming bitter God used this major event in Tim's life to propel him into a ministry that no one could have imagined at that time. Now having served 50 years in full-time ministry, where he has ministered in all 50 states and numerous countries addressing thousands of local churches, Christian schools, civic organizations, colleges and universities, hundreds of special patriotic events, as well as thousands of Marines and Marine Recruits every year, God continues to use Tim's heart of passion and patriotism to share and spread the good news of the gospel. Today our prayer is that in and throughout this episode you would be open and receptive to what God has for you. Through the power of Tim's testimony as well as the good news of the gospel which is presented, we pray that your life would be forever impacted and changed because of the sacrifice God gave for you. Dennis Haines was drafted.  He was   assigned to Infantry training and ended up with the 199th Light Infantry Brigade in Vietnam.   In 1968 he was a combat trooper -- helicoptered in to fight enemy soldiers were they were discovered.   He tells what combat was like and the day when a Viet Cong shot him in the head.  He has been in a wheelchair since 1968 due to bullet wounds from an AK 47 rifle.   Yet, when you talk to him,  he is not bitter or angry.  He did his duty as an American.  Dennis stays busy helping at the Veterans Administration hospital assisting other veterans in Pennsylvania.                                                                             Freedom Is Not Free                                      Dennis Haines

Abdul Aziz Muhamat Just before Christmas of 2016, Aziz is transferred to Port Moresby for knee surgery. With better phone reception, Michael and Aziz share a long phone call in which they reflect on the year that's ending, the holiday season and the months since they met face to face on Manus Island. The change in Aziz's circumstances is only temporary, but it's still a change – and the call feels like a rare break in the clouds. But just two days later – on Christmas Day – Michael hears news that Aziz's friend and fellow Sudanese detainee, Faysal Ishak Ahmed, has died. On this Veteran's Day, almost a century after President Wilson began the tradition to commemorate those who had served their country, this special episode features a 25-year Air Force veteran who colorfully shares her story with humor and wit. We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to the millions of service men and women who have dedicated themselves to securing world peace and allowed us to live as proud and free Americans. And in their service, military personnel learn unique skills that are incredibly valuable for the employers who put them back to work in the civilian world. This episode is dedicated to the millions of veterans who have heroically given their time and even their lives – to talk about what it means to serve and what we as a collective society can do to support them when they come back home.
