“Barry” is the blackest of black comedies — if it’s even a comedy at all by season four. We knew Bill Hader was funny, but now we also know he’s an impressive actor and director, too. This spoiler-laden discussion of all four seasons dives deep into what’s real and not, what’s funny and not, and whether Barry was mostly a trippy homage to “Breaking Bad.” Lex Friedman with Brian Warren and Brian Hamilton.
It's the end of the road and Bankole & Jeremiah have gathered at the Nohobal Industries' lobby to discuss the last ever episode of 'Barry'.They start with the stand-off between Hank and Fuches (3:33), before discussing the resolutions to Barry, Sally & Gene's stories (23:33), and finish with a discussion of 'The Masked Collector' and what it says about the legacies of both Gene and Barry (50:49).Also available on Youtube: https://youtu.be/ZAN1hUm6bXAHost: Bankole ImoukhuedeGuest: Jeremiah Akpotohwo Production by: Bankole ImoukhuedeSocial Production: Ebube Ubochi
It's the end of an era, truly. Dustin "The Duster" Mason & Eli Holicky join Dom to break down not just one, but TWO series finales for arguably the two greatest shows of the last couple of years. Both HBO originals, both incredibly original, both took the world by storm the last few years, and both of which are the last of an incredible run of HBO, as it has now been dropped from the title of the new streaming service enacted by the recently merged Discovery & Time Warner streaming service "Max." The two shows both wrapped their fourth and final seasons respectively. The Roys are in a final battle to sway the board to crash the pending takeover by tech CEO Lukas Mattson, but final revelations and backroom dealings provide a twist that comes out of nowhere and leaves the Roys with a lot less than they thought. Barry meanwhile is hot on the trail of Fuches & Hank who have kidnapped Sally & John, while Gene Cousineau finally confronts how his relationship with Barry has changed his life. We will miss both of these shows a lot, they've both had a marked effect on our TV watching the last couple of years. Be sure to keep tuning in to new episodes of the #talkintvpodcast as we continue our summer series, continuing next week with Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/talkintvpodcastgmailcom/support

Happy Wine Wednesday! We're back with another installment in our Boozy Beginnings series. Candi joined me this week to talk about the pilot episode of the HBO series Barry. We kick off our discussion by talking about the opening scene in which we meet Barry who looks like he is struggling to feel satisfied in his career as an assassin. We also talk about how the writers very efficiently acquainted us with him via some well done exposition from Fuches. Barry is the show's namesake and undoubtedly the main character, but the interesting cast of characters is absolutely part of the charm of this series. In light of that, I ask Candi a few questions for sh*ts and giggles - including her thoughts about NoHo Hank. We love him! After a few Barry-inspired questions, we share what worked well in the pilot and whether there was anything that didn't work for us. If you're new to Barry, we try to further entice you to watch by sharing three words to describe the series. Have no fear, our discussion is spoiler free - nothing beyond the pilot episode. As always, we end with our thirsty thoughts. It's a Barry episode, so of course we swoon over Bill Hader.Friendly reminder - we drink, we know things, we use adult language, and we have a great time. Find and follow Candi on Twitter here. THE END (of Season Two) HAS COME. In the season finale of BARRY, our titular protagonist blows his New Years resolution to STOP KILLING PEOPLE; Hank finds himself secured in the Chechen crime family (through no effort of his own); Fuches flees for his life; and Gene's world is rocked by the revelation that his protege/adopted son Barry is the person who murdered the love of his life, Detective Janice Moss, LAPD. Sally is doing the best here, and it's only because she has chosen shallow success over artistic honesty. This season 2 penultimate episode of #BARRYHBO is a doozy, with Naive Barry failing upward (6 feet, 2 inches upward, to be exact); Fuches proving that he still has cards to play; and Sally solidifying her place as Feminist Icon, Sally Reed with a rant that we feel in our bones. This week, we tackle one of the most high-strangeness, magical realist, avant garde episodes of television (period.) that might just push Bill Hader over the line into "auteur" territory: the fabled fifth episode of Season 2 of BARRY, "Ronny/Lily." Also, Rhi reveals her love of Reel Big Fish and her illustrious childhood martial arts career, and Jamie Lynn compares Barry & Fuches to the Wet Bandits. The cat certainly is in the cradle in Episode 2 of Season 2 of BARRY: The Power of No. (Do you think Eckhart Tolle approved this title?) This week, we have more questions than answers, such as: Where do the episode titles come from? Where did Gene's SECRET SON come from?! What is a Yoshinoya beef bowl? And will Fuches ever stop being our Most Evil Guy? (unlikely, but a girl can dream!) Most Evil Guy is a fancast about the show BARRY on HBO, co-created by Bill Hader and Alec Berg.

Barry gets his comeuppance... but still survives. Fuches is in police custody but possibly not for long. Sally's retaliation only takes herself down. Hank is in Bolivia. And the world is Gene's oyster but his connection to Barry may take it all away. I am curious as to how this is going to all play out, next week. I haven't got a clue.
Q&A on the HBO series Barry with actor Sarah Goldberg. Moderated by Mara Webster, In Creative Company. Disillusioned at the thought of taking down another "mark," depressed, low-level hit man Barry Berkman seeks a way out. When the Midwesterner reluctantly travels to Los Angeles to execute a hit on an actor who is bedding a mobster's wife, little does Barry know that the City of Angels may be his sanctuary. He follows his target into acting class and ends up instantly drawn to the community of eager hopefuls, especially dedicated student Sally, who becomes the object of his affection. While Barry wants to start a new life as an actor, his handler, Fuches, has other ideas, and the hit man's criminal past won't let him walk away so easily.

When an attack on the government is attempted, Seg seizes an opportunity to advance himself and his family by allying with those who sentenced his grandfather to execution and destroyed his family's name but when evidence that his grandfather's claims were true is discovered, Seg must work within the system that discarded the House of El in order to protect their future legacy.Station 19 (ABC) Practically raised at Seattle's Station 19, Andy Herrera is a confident firefighter who is also the daughter of Pruitt Herrera, the formidable head of the firehouse. Capt. Pruitt was Andy's primary inspiration to become a firefighter and is a mentor to both her and Jack Gibson, the lieutenant at the station. Jack is as fearless as Andy is by-the-books, but when the two are together, sparks fly and opposites attract. The two are joined by Maya Bishop, Dean Miller, Travis Montgomery, Victoria Hughes, and the station's newest addition, rookie Ben Warren. The team also works closely with Seattle PD, often running into Andy's former flame Ryan Tanner.Trust (FX) Inspired by actual events, "Trust" delves into the trials and triumphs of one of America's wealthiest and unhappiest families, the Gettys. Equal parts family history, dynastic saga and an examination of the corrosive power of money, "Trust" explores the complexities at the heart of every family, rich or poor. Told over multiple seasons and spanning the 20th century, the series begins in 1973 with the kidnapping of John Paul Getty III, an heir to the Getty oil fortune, by the Italian mafia in Rome. His captors banked on a multimillion-dollar ransom. But Paul's grandfather, enigmatic oil tycoon J. Paul Getty Sr. -- possibly the richest man in the world -- is busy being marooned in a Tudor mansion in the English countryside with a harem of mistresses and a pet lion. Paul's father, J. Paul Getty Jr., is lost in a daze in London and refuses to answer the phone. Only Paul's mother, Gail Getty, is left to negotiate with the increasingly desperate kidnappers. Unfortunately, she's broke.Billions (Showtime) Wealth, influence and corruption collide in this drama set in New York. Shrewd U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades is embroiled in a high-stakes game of predator vs. prey with Bobby Axelrod, an ambitious hedge-fund king. To date, Rhoades has never lost an insider trading case -- he's 81-0 -- but when criminal evidence turns up against Axelrod, he proceeds cautiously in building the case against Axelrod, who employs Rhoades' wife, psychiatrist Wendy, as a performance coach for his company. Wendy, who has been in her position longer than Chuck has been in his, refuses to give up her career for her husband's legal crusade against Axelrod. Both men use their intelligence, power and influence to outmaneuver the other in this battle over billions. The high-profile cast is led by Emmy winners Paul Giamatti ("John Adams") and Damian Lewis ("Homeland") as Chuck Rhoades and Bobby Axelrod, respectively.Silicon Valley (HBO) Partially inspired by co-creator Mike Judge's experiences as a Silicon Valley engineer in the 1980s, this comedy series follows the misadventures of introverted computer programmer Richard and his brainy friends as they attempt to strike it rich in a high-tech gold rush. They live together in a Bay Area startup incubator loosely run by self-satisfied dot-com millionaire Erlich, who lets them stay in his house rent-free in exchange for a stake in the projects they invent there. The fact that Ross isn't actually a lawyer isn't lost on Specter, who believes his new right-hand man is a legal prodigy with the book smarts of a Harvard law grad and the street smarts of a hustler. However, in order to keep their jobs, the charade must remain strictly between these two unconventional thinkers. The Crossing (ABC) When refugees from a war-torn country start seeking asylum in a small American fishing town, it becomes clear that something strange is going on. The residents soon learn that the country they are fleeing from is America, and the war they are escaping hasn't happened yet. While the government sets to work trying to untangle the truth behind the ominous migration, the fact that the lives of those involved will never again be the same seems to be the only thing that no one can deny. The Americans (FX) Co-starring Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys,"The Americans" is a period drama about the complex marriage of two KGB spies posing as Americans in suburban Washington, D.C., during the Reagan administration. The arranged marriage of Philip and Elizabeth Jennings grows more passionate and genuine by the day, but as the pressures and demands of the job grow heavier, the personal toll becomes almost too exhausting to bear, especially when it comes to protecting their American-born children, Paige and Henry. They also face the risk of discovery by their friend and neighbor FBI agent Stan Beeman, who is tasked with uncovering Soviet illegals hiding in plain sight.
