We return with the story as we examine the circumstances that saw a drastic change in fortunes for the cities two most powerful residents- for Thomas Cromwell? His rise in power and status, and his leaving of a physical mark upon the very fabric of the city. For Thomas More? The opposite. The driven man, rushing headlong towards his own death, the circumstances of his life making it impossible to avoid. And around this, a city on the edge of panic, the politics of the new Queen, and much more, as the Story of London reaches the end of the saga of ‘The Boy from Milk Street'.Cover features the Portrait of Thomas Cromwell, attributed to Hans Holbein the Younger, c.1533, Frick copy of original.

Survivor Season 50 is officially in the books, and Aubrey walked away with a well-earned $2 million after one of the most entertaining finales the show has produced in years. Frick and Shirley go deep on every major moment: the Final Five dynamics, Aubrey's immunity run, the fire making challenge between Jonathan and Rizzo, a chaotic live show that accidentally spoiled its own results, and a jury that had already made up its minds before anyone said a word.Beyond the result itself, the conversation covers Cirie's Spirit of Survivor tribute, the return of the live finale format, Aubrey's secret weapon for the immunity challenge, what the "Open Era" means for the future of the show, and what Survivor 52 might look like. The jury's lines were essentially locked in before anyone made their case.Jonathan had the stronger physical resume but struggled to articulate his strategic game during Final Tribal. Repeating the same talking point cost him.Aubrey actually practiced the "Same Ocean" challenge using a version she bought on Etsy after anticipating the fan vote. That level of preparation was a major factor. The live finale format was a genuine hit, especially because the reunion elements were woven into the show rather than crammed into a rushed final hour. The accidental fire challenge spoiler made for one of the most memorable Jeff Probst moments in years.Cirie receiving the Spirit of Survivor award was a crowd favorite, even if the consensus was that a check would have been more appropriate for 20 years of moving the game.Season 50 brought in a wave of new fans, driven in part by the Mr. Beast crossover and wider cultural visibility. The show going into the "Open Era" for Season 51 and beyond opens the door for returning players, classic twists, and bigger production investment from CBS."She wanted to keep her threat level low, build these half alliances with a lot of players, play the middle, and then burst toward the end to make that resume move. And that absolutely worked.""There's something that happens in Final Tribal where that third person realizes: oh, I get it. You guys didn't actually want my answer. You're just having me solidify one of theirs.""Aubrey said she had panic attacks on day two, got to the final three, came back for a final five, played 137 days, took time off to work on herself, then came back for 50 and did everything to get to the end. That was the resume liner. She's been practicing that in the mirror for a long time.""She moves the game to where she wants it without anyone seeing it. The producers in the moment are seeing what we see at home all the time.""That was our final Survivor twist. That was such quick thinking. In this episode of Journey of Hope, host Elio Constantine sits down with Heart for Lebanon's newest team member, John Frick, Senior Director of Development, for a thoughtful conversation on stewardship through the lens of Scripture and mission. What begins as a discussion about giving quickly expands into a deeper exploration of what it truly means to live as stewards of everything God has entrusted to us—time, resources, influence, and life itself. Drawing from Jesus' teaching on loving God with all our heart, soul, and strength, John unpacks how stewardship is not limited to finances, but is instead a full-life posture of surrender and obedience. He reflects on the biblical foundation of stewardship beginning in creation, where humanity was entrusted with the care of God's world, and how that calling continues today. From there, the conversation turns to how Western Christianity often narrows stewardship into a financial concept, while Scripture presents something far more holistic and transformative.John also shares his perspective on Heart for Lebanon, highlighting how the ministry uniquely integrates both Gospel proclamation and practical care—feeding the hungry while also making disciples, in the spirit of both Matthew 25 and Matthew 28. He describes this as a “holistic Kingdom approach,” one that reflects the way Jesus Himself ministered.Having known Heart for Lebanon's founder Camille Melki for over a decade, John speaks to the ministry's impact in Lebanon and why he felt called to join the team. He emphasizes that what is happening through Heart for Lebanon is far beyond human explanation—evidence of God's hand at work as grassroots leaders are equipped, disciples are made, and communities are transformed. The episode closes with a challenge to listeners: to step into where God is already at work. As John echoes Henry Blackaby's well-known principle, stewardship ultimately becomes about joining God in His mission and faithfully offering Him all that we have.Show NotesWhat is Biblical Stewardship?Stewardship includes far more than moneyRooted in Jesus' command to love God fully (heart, soul, strength)Everything we have belongs to GodDiscipleship is lived through obedience, not partial surrenderA Whole-Life Understanding of StewardshipTime, talent, influence, and resources all belong to GodTithing is not the limit of obedience—it is the beginning of surrenderTrue stewardship flows from recognizing God as the owner of all thingsBiblical FoundationsCreation mandate: humanity called to steward God's worldGenesis shows stewardship continues even after the FallJesus' teaching: “Why do you call Me Lord, Lord, and not do what I say?”Heart for Lebanon's Model of MinistryIntegrates physical care and Gospel proclamationReflects both Matthew 25 (compassion) and Matthew 28 (disciple-making)Built on a holistic Kingdom vision, not separated ministriesKingdom Impact in LebanonGod is raising up grassroots leadersDiscipleship happens in homes and communitiesGrowth is described as beyond human explanation—“punching above its weight”A Call to ParticipationFind where God is already at workJoin Him rather than trying to lead independentlyStewardship is ultimately about obedience and participation in God's missionKey TakeawayStewardship is not about managing a portion of what we own—it is about surrendering all of who we are and joining God in what He is already doing.Connect & Pray With Us

What does it take to guide visitors through histories that are genuinely contested and emotionally charged? In this episode, I'm joined by Brandon Dillard, Director of Historic Interpretation and Audience Engagement at Thomas Jefferson's Monticello, and Kelsie Paul, Director of Learning and Visitor Experience at the Frick Pittsburgh, to explore how both institutions have reimagined their guided experiences in response to the complicated legacies of their central historical figures. We talk about the long evolution of interpretation at Monticello, from the site's earliest tours to the integration of slavery and the story of Sally Hemings into the core narrative. Kelsie shares the process behind the Frick's "Gilded, Not Golden" tour - a ground-up redesign of Clayton's 30-year-old house tour that involved consultants, an advisory board, difficult internal conversations and a willingness to start from scratch. We also dig into what it means to support guides doing this work: hiring for empathy, investing in training, facilitating ongoing dialogue, and empowering guides to be facilitators rather than lecturers. And we reflect on the civic role of historic sites in a polarised moment, including how Monticello is approaching the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.Whether you're working at a historic house, leading tours in any kind of museum or cultural space, or thinking about how to hold space for complexity in your guided programmes, I think you'll find a great deal to take away from this conversation. The Art Engager is written and presented by Claire Bown. Rather than advancing a single thesis, the dialogues map the pressures shaping the field: the dominance of mega-galleries and the squeeze on mid-sized dealers, the erosion of traditional art criticism and what may replace it, the precarious economics of artistic careers, and whether today's system is evolving gradually or approaching a more fundamental realignment.Their conversation takes up the scale of the global art world—some 300 art fairs, more than 100,000 museums, and a market approaching $60 billion—and asks whether that expansion has altered the system in kind, not only in size. They discuss the role of the art advisor within an increasingly complex ecosystem, the importance of criticism in sustaining the values the market depends on, and whether artificial intelligence may emerge as a new connective tissue for engagement with art. Szántó is cautiously optimistic, pointing to developments such as the emergence of gallery districts in Tribeca, the Studio Museum in Harlem's new building, and the reopening of the Frick—while remaining clear-eyed about the structural headwinds ahead. For those working within the art world—as well as those seeking to understand it—this conversation offers something rare: the breadth of 38 dialogues distilled into a single, considered one.ABOUT THE AUTHOR András Szántó, PhD, advises museums, foundations, educational institutions, and leading brands worldwide on cultural strategy. Bats have been called the “Invisible Mammal” primarily because they fly silently and mostly at night. They also roost in dark places, caves or abandoned mines, making them hard to find even in the daylight. For humans, bats aren't only hard to see, they are hard to understand, yet they play a vital role in our world's ecosystems and an equally important roll in our agricultural economy. Yet 200 species of bats are nearing extinction. In this episode of the Lake Superior Podcast, Walt Lindala and Frida Waara talk with Winifred Frick, Chief Scientist at Bat Conservation International, to learn more about what is threatening bat populations around Lake Superior.5 Key TakeawaysBats Are More Diverse — And Longer-Lived — Than Most People RealizeWinifred Frick notes that bats are “the only mammals that can fly,” and that scientists have “just celebrated the discovery of the 1,500 bat species.” In the U.S. and Canada, she says there are “about 47 different bat species.”White-Nose Syndrome Has Devastated Bats Around Lake SuperiorFrick explains that white-nose syndrome is caused by a fungal pathogen — Pseudogymnoascus destructans (“PD”) — and says it “first emerged…in the winter of 2006, 2007.” She adds that it “has killed millions of bats in its wake” and highlights a “99% decline” in the northern long-eared bat population. The Fungus Spreads Through Hibernation Sites — Not Just Bat-to-Bat ContactFrick describes how the fungus grows on bats' skin (including wings, ears, and muzzle) and can also persist on cave and mine surfaces. She explains bats can pick it up “either by coming in contact with each other” or by contacting “the surfaces where they roost.”“Fat Bat Project” — A Practical Experiment To Help Bats SurviveFrick explains how white-nose causes bats to burn through fat reserves by arousing too often during hibernation, leading them to “starve to death before spring.” In Michigan's Upper Peninsula, her team tested using UV lights near mines (including near the Delaware Mine area) to attract insects and boost foraging — what Frick calls “our fat bat project.”You Can Help Bats By Supporting Habitat, Native Insects, And Conservation WorkFrick points to Bat Conservation International's “bat gardens program,” encouraging people to plant native plants that support moths and beetles. She also emphasizes advocating for nature protection and supporting organizations funding bat research and conservation actions.Helpful Links:Bat Conservation International - batcon.org  The Invisible Mammal Film - doclands.com/film/the-invisible-mammal Connect With Us:Lake Superior Podcast Page – https://nplsf.org/podcastFacebook – https://www.facebook.com/NationalParksOfLakeSuperiorFoundationSponsors:Cafe Imports – Minneapolis-based importers of specialty green coffees since 1993, focused on sustainability. At BCI, generally her research focuses on conservation biology and ecology of bats, but she is primarily focused on the impacts of the deadly fungal disease called White-nose syndrome to bat populations in North America. This is the 5th and final episode in our mini-series all about animals that have false narratives following them around for so long, and this episode exists to change that!We are so excited for you to listen to this conversation. Dr. Frick was so fun to speak with and was so patient with all our questions and her enthusiasm and respect and love for bats is really contagious. And you'll hear my ignorant demand that she change the name of the bat species the Flying Fox to the Flying Baby Bear Cub.  Google them.  I'm starting a campaign for this initiative and one for Fat BAT Week!  You'll see. Enjoy and don't forget to share this episode!Lots of Love. Time Stamps:Introduction: 00:16Interview: 7:15TA: 58:12Show Notes:https://www.batcon.org/bat/antrozous-pallidus-2/https://www.batcon.org/

This week I'm launching 'Inside Netvvrk,' a new interview series with Netvvrk members. First up is Laurie Frick, a data artist and one of Netvvrk's founding members. In this conversation, we talked about what it's really like to invest in your career when you're already mid-career. Laurie doesn't sugarcoat it: Netvvrk isn't cheap, and you need to treat your career like it's worth investing in. But she also shares what changed when she made that commitment—going from feeling stuck in public art commissions to now having four galleries and selling all the work she makes. We talk about the small group of artists who transformed each other's fellowship applications into something extraordinary, what it takes to actually be vulnerable with other artists, and why a community on Zoom can be just as real as painters meeting in a bar. If you've ever wondered whether coaching or community membership is worth the investment—especially if you're already established—this conversation shows what happens when you stop going it alone.

In today's conversation I sit with Sarah and recall a time that shaped us both - in many similar ways. Sarah and I have a  heartfelt conversation about building yoga studios, teaching, mentorship, and community—tracing the journey from early classes in Charlotte to growing studios in Charleston, and the role of storytelling, humility, and inclusion in their work. Sarah has always been a force and a true leader. What a gift to have her sit with me - I'll take any moment with her again as the time we spent together in Charlotte and the years after are precious.  Sarah is known for her booming brand of movement studios in Charleston SC, her generous heart, her advocacy for not only women's rights but her friends  and she is the most motivating teacher - just by being truly herself. You won't get anyone more authentic than Sarah! Keep up with Sarah on the gram: @Sarahlivesyoga & @Theworkschs

July 23rd, 1892. Henry Clay Frick is one of America's leading industrialists. To Alexander Berkman, he's one of America's leading villains. Berkman is an anarchist, along with his partner, Emma Goldman. They believe the current order of things needs to change, and one way to make change is through violence. Frick is meeting with his associates in his Pittsburgh office when Berkman bursts into the room and draws his gun. The men lock eyes, knowing that their fates are about to be forever changed.  Why did the "Queen of Anarchism" and her partner target one of America's wealthiest men? And how did the attack help lead to the rise of J. Edgar Hoover and policing as we know it? Special thanks to Steven Johnson, author of The Infernal Machine: A True Story of Dynamite, Terror, and the Rise of the Modern Detective. **REPEAT EPISODE*** So good I had to say it again… Sun Tzu was a Chinese general, military strategist, writer, and philosopher who lived in the Eastern Zhou period of ancient China. Sun Tzu stresses the importance of knowing one's own strengths and weaknesses, as well as those of the enemy, to gain a strategic advantage.  Avoiding Unnecessary Conflict: A core principle is to avoid battle whenever possible, seeking to subdue the enemy through diplomacy or other means before resorting to direct confrontation.   • Psychological Warfare:  Involves manipulating the enemy's perception and actions, not engaging in personal attacks or pettiness.  I am NOT a communist sympathizer, but China got the scratch to be about that life… ***China seems to think the US wants the smoke, so China is like... bring it.
