Kim Marsh and Alice Nagle from Fetch the Smelling Salts podcast join Flixwatcher to review Kim's choice Hidden Figures. Hidden Figures (2016) is loosely based on the non-fiction book of the same name by Margot Lee Shetterly. It tells the incredible true story of the biographies of three African-American women who worked as computers to solve problems for engineers and others at NASA. Directed by Theodore Melfi it stars Taraji P. Henson as Katherine Goble Johnson, Octavia Spencer as Dorothy Vaughan and Janelle Monáe as Mary Jackson. Other real life character include Mahershala Ali as Jim Johnson, who marries Katherine and Glen Powell as astronaut John Glenn. In fictional roles it also stars Kevin Costner, Kirsten Dunst and Jim Parsons. Hidden Figures shines a light on the impressive work done by women of colour in behind the scenes roles. However, there are a number of fictional scenes and several inaccuracies, some that lean into the white saviour trope. Recommendability scores were very favourable despite the historical inaccuracies. Fairly solid scores across the remaining categories give a very respectable score of 4.34 overall. Happy New Year! We made it to 2025. And if the first few weeks are any indication, it looks like we might be in for a bit of a bumpy ride.Which is why I open this month's “Good Enough Parenting” episode with the reminder that tapping into things that bring us joy is not a luxury as parents – it's a necessity for your family's well-being. Whether it's catching a movie, meeting up with a friend or simply savoring a quiet coffee, prioritizing things that fill your cup isn't selfish; it's essential. To start my year, I indulged in a favorite tradition: seeing a Broadway show solo. This time, it was Our Town—front row and close enough to get spit on by Jim Parsons (yes, it was worth it).Watching those turn-of-the-century moms yell for their kids to come to breakfast reminded me of something important:Some parenting struggles are timeless (like kids not listening the first, second, or third time). And parents losing their cool? Yeah, that hasn't changed in 125 years either. In this month's episode, we're diving into: ✨ How to stop “shoulding” all over yourself and your kids.
The City of Corner Brook is taking another look at the Riverside Drive area, after a landslide that happened last April. It was a harrowing experience for the four people involved, when a vehicle was pushed into the Humber River and another was struck by falling rocks and soil. The road took two months to re-open, but the City of Corner Brook isn't leaving it at that. It's spending money to have a "risk assessment" completed. Jim Parsons is the mayor of Corner Brook.

Fresh off his Tony nomination for Mother Play, Jim Parsons is back on Broadway in Our Town. So, does he not like taking a break? "Until [Big Bang Theory] wrapped in 2019, I did not really know what it was to take a break that was not only extended, but also uncertain." The reason for back-to-back shows—besides theater being "more alive for me now as it...ever has been"—is that "within days of agreeing to one, another came," and, "I felt very strongly that I wanted to do both." Parsons plays the stage manager in Our Town, guiding the audience through "one of the better-known plays in the entire canon of theater, and with a cast of 28." "I said it to Kenny [Leon], the director, in rehearsal the other day, 'This is the first time in a long time that I've worked on something and I thought I could see not really getting tired of [it].'" Parsons knows many will always see Big Bang Theory's Sheldon in his performances, and he's fine with that, because the sitcom "undoubtedly offered me more opportunities as an actor and as a human than without it, there's just no doubt about it."See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Flowing East and West: The Perfectly Imperfect Journey to a Fulfilled Life
There are all kinds of reasons Chris Hendricks could have a poor outlook: he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at age 4 and his doctor told him he would have a hard time in life; he was in and out of a wheelchair in middle and high school and suffered the particular brand of cruelty practiced by teenagers; at one point, he lost his grandmother, his girlfriend and his band all at the same time. Life has not been easy for Chris. However, Chris chooses to look for magical moments instead of miserable ones. He uses music when he needs inspiration and lives by the philosophy that believing is seeing instead of the opposite. Please listen in to hear some of Chris' story, and his amazing music that are part of his perfectly imperfect journey. Bio Chris Hendricks' music is a blend of pop and RnB with sprinkles of influence from James Taylor to Eminmen. Chris began singing at the age of four for friends and family and hasn't stopped since. He's been a songwriter, poet, lyricist and guitarist for over 15 years. His debut album Noise (2010) sold over 10,000 units. He's performed across the United States, Canada and in Europe. His music has been used by the National Hockey League, the National Football League, and Major League Soccer. He's written music for film (Hunny Bunny in 2020, Carol of the Bells in 2021, OCD in 2021) and television (Radical Dating in 2017). His single “Noise” was the theme song for the NHL's Carolina Hurricanes and Florida Panthers for the 2012 and 2013 season. His song “Anthem” was used as the signature “goal scoring song” for both NHL teams as well. His most recent releases “Soul on Fire” and “Stars” (2022) have been used as pump up music for the Sandiego Chargers. Chris has toured with, and opened for grammy award winners Amy Grant and Mercy Me as well as the grammy nominated group Delta Rae. Chris has shared the stage with well known artists such as Daughtry, Parachute, Tyler Bryant, Andy McKee, Geri Jewell, Kathy Buckley, Donnie/Andy Demmers, and Jim Parsons. Chris has performed the National Anthem for the Carolina Hurricanes and Durham Bulls. Chris has performed in Prague, Bulgaria, the United Kingdom and the Caribbean. Chris has performed at notable venues across the U.S. including the Alex Theater (LA), Bluebird Cafe (Nashville), The Listening Lounge (NYC), Eddie's Attic (ATL), The Carolina Theater (Durham, NC), The Evening Muse (Charlotte, NC), Lincoln Theater (Raleigh, NC) and Disney World. Chris has performed at many colleges and universities including Elon University, East Carolina University, University of Pittsburgh, UNC Chapel Hill, UNC Wilmington, UNC Greensboro, Duke University, and Peace University. Currently he lives in Chapel Hill NC with his partner Heather and daughter Fern. Website: http://www.iamchrishendricks.com/ Latest Album: https://music.apple.com/us/album/stars-single/1655076559

Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Modern Family, Dinner's On Me Podcast) discusses why Modern Family was a pop culture touchstone, being bullied as a child and typecast as an adult, and the importance of having well-rounded gay characters. Jesse reveals he used to have a crush on Mayim as a kid, he and Mayim discuss being on competing shows at the same time, and their shared friendship with Jim Parsons. He opens up about why he resonated with Modern Family's premise and cast, the show's fears about showing displays of affection between its gay characters, and meeting his husband at the start of the series. He reflects on getting arrested for shoplifting porn as a child, his awareness of his sexuality at a young age, why community theater and debate club were a positive outlet for him, and why winning a Tony award had a deep impact on him.Jesse Tyler Ferguson's Podcast, Dinner's on Me: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/dinners-on-me-with-jesse-tyler-ferguson/id1683905652BialikBreakdown.comYouTube.com/mayimbialik
