Who was Edward VI? To many, he's the pale, serious boy in a fur-trimmed coat, a footnote between Henry VIII and Mary I. But in reality, Edward's short reign reshaped England dramatically. In A Beginner's Guide to Edward VI, I explore: - His sheltered childhood and intense education - The power struggle between Edward Seymour and John Dudley - The sweeping Protestant reforms that changed England's religious identity - The rebellions that shook the kingdom - Edward's final illness, and his disastrous “Devise for the Succession” - How his decisions paved the way for the Lady Jane Grey crisis Edward VI ruled for just six years… yet his policies, beliefs, and fears set England on a path that would shape three Tudor reigns after him.
Was lässt dich klein fühlen? Jeder besitzt Hellsinne!

Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for July 19, 2025 is: devise dih-VYZE verb To devise is to invent or plan something that is difficult or complicated in some way. // The siblings devised a plan to clean the house from top to bottom with hopes of getting their parents to let them go to the concert. See the entry > Examples: “The Timberwolves surprisingly advanced to the Western Conference finals last year before losing to the Mavericks. After a troublesome season, Minnesota returned before being thumped by the top-seeded Thunder. The series wasn't really close, and the Timberwolves ... will have to devise a way to compete in the Western Conference with the Lakers, Nuggets, Clippers, Spurs, Mavericks, and Warriors all chasing them.” — Gary Washburn, The Boston Globe, 1 June 2025 Did you know? There's something inventive about devise, a word that stems from Latin dividere, meaning “to divide.” By the time devise was being used in English, its Anglo-French forebear deviser had accumulated an array of senses, including “divide,” “distribute,” “arrange,” “order,” “plan,” “invent,” and “assign by will.” English adopted some of these and added new senses, such as “imagine” and “guess,” that have fallen out of use over time. Today devise is most commonly used as a synonym of invent or plot in situations where the objective is difficult or complicated. Note that devise is often confused with another dividere (and deviser) descendent: device refers to a technique, method, tool, or small machine or gadget. One way to help keep their spellings straight is to remember that ice, usually a noun, is found at the end of the noun device, not the verb devise.
Yeah, it's one of those episodes this week. Nothing to learn and no great insights into the world of climbing, but we at least entertained ourselves trying to devise a new Modern Pentathlon after a chat about climbing films. Say what you want about the Careless Talk Climbing Podcast but at least they're making themselves laugh. We'll be back soon with more climbing specific content (probably) but until then, if you're enjoying the podcast please do consider checking out our Patreon page: https://www.patreon.com/c/user?u=70353823Support the show
In this episode of Stronger Sales Teams, drawing from years of hands-on experience, Ben addresses the common challenge of sluggish deal pipelines and presents practical strategies to boost close rates and refine the overall sales process. He underscores the significance of a consistent, repeatable sales framework to eliminate bottlenecks and accelerate deal progression. A key message is the importance of being “chosen early and often,” as Ben urges teams to prioritise strong initial connections and a clear understanding of client needs and opportunities. Key Takeaways: Prioritise building strong initial relationships to be “chosen early and often” by potential clients, which can simplify the sales process. Devise a structured sales process that the majority of the team can consistently follow to create predictability in closing deals. Employ careful preparation and research to engage clients effectively, using common ground like shared interests in sports or hobbies. Implement actionable checklists during client meetings to establish clear pathways for deal progression and closure. Regularly assess stuck deals by re-engaging customers with direct check-in sessions to understand remaining barriers and find resolutions. Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away»). Schnauze halten, weiterfahren! Happy New Music Friday!
