When it comes to making people believe what we say, we not only focus on the words we use, but we even tend to obsess on those words. In this quick, four-minute Pocket Sized Pep Talk I'll remind you that the reality is that the words only play a small part of what others hear and believe. You need to learn the tune!
Morning Sermon from 12 May
Iyar- Hearing Is Believing by Rabbi Avi Zakutinsky
Pastor Jeff talks about how hearing is the beginning of our faith. You need to pay attention to what you are listening to! Get your ears on His voice and on His Word!

British violinist Thomas Gould is no stranger to Australia. The leader of the Britten Sinfonia, he has been described by The Guardian as an artist who “refuses to be defined by a single genre”. His repertoire certainly backs that up, having performed and recorded extensively with classical and jazz ensembles. He's back now in Australia to perform Philip Glass's 2nd Violin Concerto, The American Four Seasons, with the Omega Ensemble, commencing on Tuesday 20 June at the City Recital Hall, Angel Place before heading to Newcastle and Melbourne. In this conversation, Thomas talks of his experience of performing Philip Glass, his love of the conductor-less environment, the inspiration he takes from other musicians in what he refers to as a new golden age of violin playing, plus much more. His musical selections reinforce the notion that he is not able to be defined by a single genre.
Gary discusses the biblical lessons on hearing and seeing. The Bible constantly sets physical eyes and ears against each other as a way to teach how we should respond to God's Word in faith. "Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God" (Romans 10:17). Just like the Bereans, we must compare what we both hear and see against the standard of the biblical text. We must have, as Jesus says, "eyes to see and ears to hear."
Summary: After the Gentiles in Antioch heard and believed the gospel, they glorified the Word (v.48) by believing it (cf.IThes.3:1). And since “glorify” means praise (cf. Ps. 50:23), you glorify and praise the Word when you believe it as … Continue reading →

Galatians 3:1-9 – As Paul continues to articulate the doctrine of Justification by faith, he draws on two arguments to support his preaching: The experience of receiving the Holy Spirit and the belief of Abraham, the "man of faith." For more information, visit Foundationfxbg.com.

Advertising's come a long way from the television jingles and old-fashioned radio spots of decades past. In the age of social media and targeted algorithms, the ads you see and hear online are very often tailored to your particular user profile. Of course, that's just when you're online. But what if it wasn't? What if, while you're out shopping or walking down a crowded street, you heard an ad aimed specifically at you, an ad that nobody around you could hear? It might sound like something out of a particularly surreal science-fiction movie, but directional audio technology's already being used in everything from billboard ads and street kiosks to grocery stores and museum exhibits. Some of the most surprising audio breakthroughs over the past few years have involved sound perception, the art of controlling just who hears a particular sound and where that sound seems to be coming from. For sonic branding, directional audio can mean the difference between just hearing an ad as a listener and engaging with it on a more personal level. One of the very first uses of directional audio in advertising was back in 2007, and it gave pedestrians in New York quite a start. It was a billboard for the spooky reality TV show Paranormal State, and people who walked directly in front of the billboard would hear ghostly voices whispering in their ears. Anyone else who wasn't in just the right spot, no matter how close by they might be standing, couldn't hear anything. The directional audio portion of the campaign only lasted a week, but that week made headlines. Just a month later the same technology was featured in the Brooklyn Historical Society's exhibit “In Our Own Words: Portraits of Brooklyn's Vietnam Veterans,” allowing visitors to hear a recording of each veteran's personal story by standing directly in front of their portraits, without anyone else being able to hear them. It ran for a year, and since then directional audio's been used for other museum exhibits, convention booths, and even to sell bananas in New Zealand supermarkets, where sales increased by over 130%. If you'd like to see a short video of such a display in action, and the dramatic difference that standing just a few inches off to the side can make, just check out the link on my blog: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXxIApwIiqM As for just how directional sound technology works, it's a fascinating subject: you could almost call it a sonic laser beam. Ultrasound beams are created and aimed at the precise spot where the sound should be heard, and they're so intense that they distort the air itself as they move through it, creating lower frequency sound waves that our ears can detect. Like a laser, the effect only works along the beam's path, so only the people who are meant to hear the sound will notice it. For everyone else, it's just silence. Ultrasound isn't the only way to trick the brain into hearing sounds that seem to come from nowhere. Another startling form of directional sound delivery is binaural audio, a technology that's more than a century old but has only come into its own over the past decade. Unlike surround sound, which relies on the listener setting up an array of speakers, binaural audio uses a simple pair of headphones to simulate a three-dimensional soundscape that seems to surround the listener. Sounds can come from in front of them, behind them and all around them in ways that might seem impossible. For a spooky demonstration of binaural audio's ability to immerse the listener, you can find a link here to a short audio journey through a haunted hospital. There's nothing too scary or graphic to worry about, but you'll want to wear headphones to truly appreciate the 3D audio effect. And you may want to keep an eye on the volume: some of the sound effects can get pretty loud: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MytAOmbnLpg Binaural audio is created by using two microphones covered by a filter that's molded into the shape of a pair of ears,...

“I always loved science class and science questions, and I went to science camps – but as a kid I didn't really put it together that being a scientist was a career or something other than sitting at a microscope in a lab coat,”. Our guest this week, Dr. Samara Haver, has come a long way from not realizing the myriad of careers in science when she was a child. She now works as a marine acoustician, researching underwater soundscapes and ocean noise to understand the repercussions for marine ecosystems and animals, such as humpback and blue whales. Samara's PhD research revolved around analyzing the recordings from the 12 hydrophones to explore several questions regarding differences in U.S. soundscapes, including baleen whale presence which she was able to identify by their unique vocalizations. Filmmaker Lorenzo DeStefano and his team have created a dynamic and engaging portrait of nearly two years in the life of a tight knit American family, a single mom and her two kids, living paycheck to paycheck in working class Oxnard, California, with Rachel’s stunning music as the soundtrack. “Hearing is Believing” revels in Rachel’s joyous and free-flowing love of song, illuminating the bonds of family and the divine mysteries of creativity. Rachel Flowers is a true survivor, a hyper-abled individual whose inspiring story has the potential to be a beacon of hope out there. Appearing with Rachel in “Hearing is Believing” are Grammy winners Arturo Sandoval, Stevie Wonder, Dweezil Zappa, two-time Grammy nominated jazz pianist, Taylor Eigsti, the late Progressive Rock icon Keith Emerson, Hawaii ukulele master Benny Chong, and 50 members of the Santa Barbara Youth Symphony performing Rachel's original composition, “At The End Of The Day”. Rachel has appeared at the Havana International Jazz Festival (2016), Progfest 2017 & 2018, and at the PDX Portland Jazz Festival (2018). She has shared the stage with Dweezil Zappa, Arturo Sandoval, Taylor Eigsti, Jeff “Skunk” Baxter, Marc Bonilla, Jordan Rudess, Steve Porcaro, Rick Wakeman, Burt Bacharach, Bob Reynolds, Cuban legends Bobby Carcassés, Bellita Y Jazz Tumbatá, and Orlando "Maraca" Valle, the Young Musicians Foundation Debut Orchestra and the Birmingham (UK) Symphony Orchestra. Rachel has performed since her youth for Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, Clark Terry, Herbie Hancock, Herb Alpert, and Wayne Shorter. She has three albums in release – “Listen” (2016), “Hearing is Believing Motion Picture Soundtrack” (2017), and “Going Somewhere” (2018). Rachel is a very active part of several jazz lineups in California and is composing original songs and works for orchestra, jazz combo, piano, and voice. At this point in her eventful musical career she is deeply exploratory, forging a variety of stylings as immensely accomplished as they are uniquely her own.

In our series, Follow Me, we're discovering that no matter where we're at with Jesus, He's calling us to take our faith to the next level. And one aspect of taking our faith to a next level is to honestly evaluate our current faith. Today in part 6 we're challenged to evaluate the spiritual fruit God is bringing about through our lives as evidence of our response to the gospel.

HEARING IS BELIEVING With Rachel Flowers and filmmaker Lorenzo DeStefano __________________________________ OPENING IN SELECT THEATRES ON Friday, June 16, 2017 AVAILBLE ON VOD AND DIGITAL HD Tuesday, June 20, 2017 A film by Lorenzo DeStefano HEARING IS BELIEVING, the new non-fiction feature from award-winning filmmaker Lorenzo DeStefano, introduces the world to the astonishing young musician and composer, Rachel Flowers. Born 15 weeks premature, Rachel soon lost her eyesight. At two she began playing every song she heard by ear, including Bach fugues. Starting her musical education at the age of 4, it was soon clear that the child had perfect pitch. DeStefano and his team have created a dynamic and engaging portrait of two years in the life of a tight- knit American family, a single mom and her two kids, living paycheck to paycheck in Oxnard, California, with Rachel's stunning music as the soundtrack. The film revels in Rachel's joyous and free-flowing love of song, illuminating the bonds of family and the divine mysteries of creativity. Among the great musicians appearing with Rachel in the film are Grammy winners Dweezil Zappa, Arturo Sandoval, and Stevie Wonder, Grammy nominated jazz pianist Taylor Eigsti, the late Progressive Rock icon Keith Emerson, Hawaii ukulele legend Benny Chong, and 50 members of the Santa Barbara Youth Symphony. Rachel is the recipient of many awards, distinctions, and scholarships, including a Stanford University Jazz Residency, Los Angeles Music Center Spotlight Awards, winner of the Ventura County Student Jazz competition, and private instruction in advanced improvisation through the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz. Rachel has performed for Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, Clark Terry, Herbie Hancock, Herb Alpert, and Wayne Shorter. She is a very active part of several jazz lineups in California and is currently composing original songs and works for orchestra, jazz combo, piano, and voice. HEARING IS BELIEVING is produced & directed by Lorenzo DeStefano. Executive producer is Patti Channer. Co-producers are Randell J. Brasher, Sandra Laby, Jordan Laby, and Mary Karrh. Editing by Kevin D. Wilson. Cinematography by David Pu'u and Nik Blaskovich. Music by Rachel Flowers. Firstly Happy New Year. Enough smalltalk. This will be quite brief for reasons that will soon be obvious. The podcast is uploading now. It is late and it is late because the podcast has been, um, in post-production for a little while. We've tried not to edit in Season 3, partially because it's a more honest way of living but mostly because we're lazy. But you will hear the problem a few minutes into the show: we forgot half of our backing music. So I've fixed that now (not disguised it, you'll note) but it's taken a while and here we are.SO, hearing is believing and the episode you're about to listen to has been DIGITALLY RECREATED for your pleasure as if we were a piece of virtual reality software from the early nineties. That's right: One Life Left is officially both in its time and ahead of its time. We are Pixar, using bleeding edge tech to enhance your entertainment experience. We are idiots, using technology to cover up for our incompetence.Enough! The Christmas break is over and the team are back, back, back again. And with all that's happened having happened (has anything actually happened?) the gang can't possibly avoid talking about videogames for a full hour, right? So here's what happens. SPOILER WARNINGS: four of the regulars from last year return, as do plenty of in-studio features and lots of unexpected asides. Simon presents Ste with a reading from something unexpected, Ste brings in an unexpected toy, and Ann has unexpectedly played two games. Plus Christmas present chat, lots of letters, competition results, reviews reviews reviews, a couple of new songs and plenty more.Right. Sorry to those who listened live. In another way you're tremendously lucky because you got OLL acoustic.
