This SPECIAL EPISODE is a tribute to RICK DAVIES, who died this past week at age 81. Rick was the founder of, and one of the two lead singer-songwriters of, Supertramp, one of the greatest bands of the rock era. In 1979 the band hit their zenith with the album “Breakfast In America”, which sold over 20 million records.Rick played keyboards and wrote several of the band's greatest hits. His songs had a blusier, edgier sound to them than those of Roger Hodgson, the other lead songwriter, who wrote more pop oriented songs which he sang in his high tenor voice. Together, however, these two guys provided the yin and yang of Supertramp which defined the band and made them a success.Rick's first band, called Rick's Blues, included Gilbert O'Sullivan on the drums. In August 1969 he placed an ad in Melody Maker seeking to form a new band, and Roger Hodgson auditioned and joined. Supertramp's first successful album was 1974's “Crime Of The Century”. It contained “Bloody Well Right”, Rick's first hit.  The band's breakthrough album was “Breakfast In America”, which contained another Davies hit, “Goodbye Stranger”. Like most rock bands, however, creative differences and jealousies eventually split up Supertramp. But for the time that they were together they were a fantastic, creative band - one of the best of the rock era - under the leadership of Rick Davies.------------------------------------------The Follow Your Dream Podcast:Top 1% of all podcasts with Listeners in 200 countries!Click here for All Episodes Click here for Guest List Click here for Guest Groupings Click here for Guest TestimonialsClick here to Subscribe Click here to receive our Email UpdatesClick here to Rate and Review the podcast—----------------------------------------ROBERT'S NEWEST SINGLE:“SUNDAY SLIDE” is Robert's newest single. It is a collection of songs that I wrote over the years but never released. A few of them ended up on live albums but most of them were never recorded before. The songs do share a theme. It is about love in all its forms, including love for life itself and love for the planet.  The beautiful, difficult and dark aspects of love. I'm very proud of it. In the eleven years it took to make this album I didn't sit still. I did bring out three literary albums, around the works of Byron, Camus and Böll. They were recorded in Germany. At the moment I am working on albums about Lorca and Casanova.”—------------------------------------CONNECT WITH ERIC:www.ericandersen.com____________________ROBERT'S NEWEST ALBUM:“WHAT'S UP!” is Robert's new compilation album. This is a Tribute episode to Allan Sherman, one of the greatest song parodists who ever lived. He emerged from nowhere in the early 1960s to become one of the biggest selling musical artists in the pre-Beatles era.His album, “My Son, The Folksinger”, released in 1962, shot to the top of the charts, and became the fastest selling record of its time. It captured the entire country. His next album, “My Son, The Nut”, featured his biggest hit, “Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah”, about a boy writing home to his parents from summer camp. It was written to the tune of Ponchielli's “Dance Of The Hours”.Before he became a musical star Sheran was employed in television, where he came up with the idea for the show “I've Got a Secret”.His musical ascendance was meteoric. He played some of his song parodies to Harpo Marx, his neighbor, who invited him to perform them at some dinner parties. George Burns was at one such party and he urged his friend at Warner Brothers Records to sign Sherman. “Sarah Jackman”, sung to the tune of “Frere Jacques”, became his first hit after President John F. Kennedy was overheard singing the song in a hotel lobby.Sherman's musical career peaked in 1963, but then, following the assassination of JFK and the emergence of The Beatles and the other British Invasion bands, his career waned and it was over by 1967. Sherman died at age 49 in 1973. But he left a big legacy.Featured songs:“Shake Hands With Your Uncle Max”“Harvey And Sheila”“Crazy Downtown”“Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah”------------------------------------------The Follow Your Dream Podcast:Top 1% of all podcasts with Listeners in 200 countries!Click here for All Episodes Click here for Guest List Click here for Guest Groupings Click here for Guest TestimonialsClick here to Subscribe Click here to receive our Email UpdatesClick here to Rate and Review the podcast—----------------------------------------ROBERT'S NEWEST ALBUM:“WHAT'S UP!” is Robert's new compilation album. This is a Tribute episode to Tom Lehrer, who passed away last week at age 97. For anyone unfamiliar with him and his music, he was a brilliant musical satirist who wrote incredibly clever, interesting and topical songs in the 1950s and 1960s. He was not a full-time musician. His true love was mathematics and he was employed for years as a professor at Harvard and MIT. Periodically, however, he emerged to perform and record several albums of his songs. He was trained as a classical pianist. All of his songs were performed just with him playing the piano and singing. His lyrics were sharp, intelligent, incisive and always on point. Here are some of his “Greatest Hits”.“Poisoning Pigeons In The Park” is about one of the pleasures of springtime.“Be Prepared” is his Boy Scout “marching song”.“I Hold Your Hand In Mine” is his necrophiliac ballad.“The Vatican Rag” is his response to the Vatican's attempt to “make the Church more commercial”, as he liked to say.And perhaps his most famous song is “The Elements”, where he names all of the elements to a Gilbert & Sullivan melody.Tom Lehrer will be missed.------------------------------------------The Follow Your Dream Podcast:Top 1% of all podcasts with Listeners in 200 countries!Click here for All Episodes Click here for Guest List Click here for Guest Groupings Click here for Guest TestimonialsClick here to Subscribe Click here to receive our Email UpdatesClick here to Rate and Review the podcast—----------------------------------------ROBERT'S NEWEST ALBUM:“WHAT'S UP!” is Robert's new compilation album. It's a positive, upbeat song with a reggae beat about the pleasures that we get from everyday events in our lives.“Lou's Blues” is my Jazz Fusion tone poem. I wrote it in the studio and we recorded it in one take.“The Gift” took my love song ballad and was transformed by Michael Abene, Grammy winning arranger, into a big band samba.
