Tom Sleigh is a multiple award winning poet, dramatist and essayist. He's written eleven books of poetry. His most recent is “The King's Touch”, which won the Paterson Poetry Prize. His other works include “Army Cats”, winner of the John Updike Award, “Space Walk”, winner of the Kingsley Tufts Award, and “Far Side Of The Earth”, which won an Academy Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. His poems and prose have appeared in The New Yorker, American Poetry Review, Yale Review and The Village Voice. He is a Professor (Emeritus) at Hunter College. Lora Logic is a British punk and post-punk musician. In 1977, when she was 16, she became the saxophonist in Poly Styrene's seminal English punk band, X-Ray Spex. They had a hit with “Oh Bondage! Up Yours!”. She went on to form Essential Logic, a post-punk band with duelling saxophones that released one album in 1979. 43 years later she released a second Essential Logic album together with a box set of her back catalogue. Essential Logic plays a post-punk mix of punk, jazz, reggae and funk. Her life took a detour in the ‘80s when she joined a Krishna community, became a mother, and dropped out of music for 25 years. He's the Music Director of Germany's Wuppertal Symphony Orchestra and Opera, he's the Principal Guest Conductor of the Munich Radio Orchestra, and the Principal Guest Conductor of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. He also regularly performs with the Munich Philharmonic, London Philharmonic, the Vienna Symphony and the Munich State Opera. Rachel Flowers is an extraordinary musician. She's been blind practically since birth but that hasn't held her back one bit. She is an amazing multi-instrumentalist. Her genres include classical, jazz, rock and pop. She plays piano, keyboards, flute, guitar, bass, saxophone and something called the Chapman Stick. She's performed with Arturo Sandoval, “Skunk” Baxter, Dweezil Zappa, Rik Wakeman of Yes and Burt Bacharach among others. She was mentored by Greg Lake and Keith Emerson of ELP and by Herbie Hancock. She's won numerous awards as a pianist and a flutist. Welcome to Part 2 of the two-part Special Episode introducing my new release, “MA PETITE FLEUR STRING QUARTET”. This work transforms my jazz ballad into a lush classical string quartet piece. The work has been praised by a host of Classical Music Stars, all of whom are listed below. In Part 1 yesterday we listened to this new work. In Part 2 today we're going to introduce the incredible musicians who brought this piece to life.David Shenton is the genius arranger behind this work. David is an English pianist, violinist, composer and arranger. He started playing the violin at age 7 and he's composed hundreds of works from small piano pieces to full-length operas. Violinist Katie Thomas is a soloist, chamber musician, studio violinist and concert-mistress. She's played on Grammy winning albums and also recorded with artists like Rosanne Cash, The O'Jays, Jimmy Fallon and the animation series “Dragons”. Violinist Erica Dicker works in a wide variety of musical settings in both notated and improvised music. She is a member of the electro-acoustic trio Vaster Than Empires. She is also a founding member of the horn-trio Kylwyria. And she's known for her work with composer and multi-instrumentalist Anthony Braxton.J.J. Johnson has been the violist at Radio City Music Hall. His Broadway musical experience has included On The Town, Cats, Fiddler On The Roof, An American In Paris, Wicked, My Fair Lady, and Sunset Boulevard. He has also appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman. Dave Eggar is a Rock Star cellist who recently was a guest on the podcast. He's a 5x Grammy nominee. He's worked with Paul Simon, John Legend, Norah Jones, Foreigner, Josh Groban and Train. I'm pleased to say that the work has been praised by all of the Classical Music Stars listed below. In Part 1 today we're going to listen to this new work. In Part 2 tomorrow we're going to introduce the incredible musicians who brought this piece to life.But first, here's the back story.Last year, following my podcast interview with Michael Abene, Grammy award winning big band arranger, I asked him if he would create a new arrangement of my jazz ballad, “The Gift”. Michael agreed and transformed my song into an extraordinary big band Samba. My band mates and I were the rhythm section on the recording. Noel Brown is a Professor of Film in Liverpool, England where he's a scholar of film, TV and animation. He's published eight books, mostly on children's films, the most recent on the subject of Radical Children's Film and Television. At that time I had no audience and no guests. What I did have though was a goal: to inspire and motivate people to follow their dream, just like I followed my youthful music dream later in life.I'm pleased to say that the podcast has succeeded beyond my wildest expectations. It's won several awards and been ranked for some time in the top 1% of all podcasts, with listeners worldwide on every continent in 200 countries. My guests have been a remarkable collection of World Class musicians, actors, authors, directors, photographers and other creatives.It took two years to reach 1 million downloads, but only one more year to pass 2 million downloads. Then another eight months to surpass 3 million downloads. And now just another six months to pass 4 million total downloads - accrued over more than 630 episodes.In those six months I've aired over 130 episodes featuring more extraordinary guests, and also introducing several new singles as well as my latest album, What's Up. These musical works have featured a number of guest artists who were guests on the podcast.Doing this podcast has been a privilege. I've gotten to meet extraordinary artists from all over the world. At last count I've had guests from more than 30 different countries. My guests have introduced me and my listeners to a vibrant world community of music and the arts, one that is connected despite differences in language and culture. Martha Redbone is an extraordinary artist - a singer, songwriter and composer. She was selected as a United States Artist Fellow. Her music has been called a “tasty gumbo” of roots music which combines the folk and mountain blues of her youth growing up in the coal country of Kentucky, together with her teenage years living in Brooklyn, NY. Her songs and storytelling share her life experience as an Afro-Indigenous woman and mother. She writes about social justice, connecting cultures and celebrating the human spirit.In 2020 Martha received a Drama Desk Award for her work on the show “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Enuff”, at the Public Theater. He played weddings, Bar Mitzvahs, private parties and the like on the weekends. In particular he loved Latin music. Jeffrey Biegel is a Spectacular Concert Pianist. He's a Grammy winner and has a remarkable back story. At age three he was barely able to hear or speak, in fact he could hear only vibrations, until he had corrective surgery. This so-called 'reverse Beethoven' phenomenon is at the heart of his commitment to music. In 2025 he premiered three new works including one by Melissa Manchester. In 2021 he premiered a work in honor of former Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. He's worked with conductors JoAnn Falletta and Lucas Richman.  He received high praise from Leonard Bernstein who called him “a splendid musician and a brilliant performer." Benny Benack III - BB3 - is a phenomenal, extraordinarily talented, Emmy nominated, double threat guy. He's a world class trumpet player and a world class singer/crooner all in one. He's a consummate showman too and he lights up the room. He's carrying on the tradition of the great crooners. Sinatra would be proud of him.
