As a leader, it's crucial to surround yourself with the right people. You may think that you're strong enough to avoid adopting the worst of others, but the truth is that we unconsciously become what we're near. If you're surrounded by negativity, sooner or later, you'll become negative too. That's why few things are more important in life than avoiding the wrong people. The Impact of Our Surroundings One of the most significant factors that impact our behavior is the people we spend time with. Whether it's your colleagues, employees, friends, or family members, the people around us have a profound influence on our lives. Their attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors can rub off on us, whether we realize it or not. For example, if you work for a toxic boss, you may start to develop toxic behaviors yourself. You may become short-tempered, irritable, and critical of others. Similarly, if you hang around with people who are lazy and unmotivated, you may start to adopt their negative attitude towards work and life. It's not just negative behaviors that we pick up from others; we can also learn positive behaviors too. When you're surrounded by people who are ambitious, hard-working, and positive, you'll likely pick up those traits too. You'll be inspired to work harder, take risks, and push yourself to be the best version of yourself. How to Avoid the Wrong People and Surround Yourself with the Right Ones Identify the wrong people: The first step is to identify the people who have a negative impact on your life. This may include colleagues, friends, or even family members. Minimize your exposure: Once you've identified the wrong people, try to minimize your exposure to them. This may mean avoiding them altogether or limiting your interactions with them. Surround yourself with the right people: Instead, focus on spending time with people who have a positive influence on your life. Seek out colleagues, friends, and mentors who inspire you and bring out the best in you. Be selective: When hiring employees or choosing business partners, be selective. Look for people who share your values and have a positive attitude towards work and life. Conclusion In conclusion, as a leader, it's crucial to surround yourself with the right people. The people around us have a profound influence on our lives, and it's up to us to choose who we spend our time with. Avoid the wrong people and surround yourself with positive, ambitious, and inspiring individuals. Remember, the changes are too gradual to notice until they're too large to address, so choose wisely. Are you confident? Some of us think confidence means arrogance, so it's a word we shy away from. Others believe confidence is either something we're born with, or aren't, and so we assume that if we don't have it, that's just how it is. The truth? Confidence is not selfish or arrogant, and it's absolutely not a genetic trait you're born with. It's a skillset you can cultivate, just like riding a bike or learning a new language. As we continue this series of episodes all about your relationship with yourself, we're talking about cultivating confidence - what it actually is, what creates it, why it matters, and how what you think about yourself creates how you feel about your life. In this episode, we talk about:   • Beyond Happy Ep. 148: Liking Yourself   • The free class: How To Deal With Difficult People, happening Wednesday, June 23, 2021. Register here.

This episode is kicking off a series we're going to be doing over the next few weeks about your relationship with yourself. This is some of the most important work that you can do, because how you feel about yourself becomes how you feel about your life. The truth is that so many of us are going through our days intentionally trying to look or behave in certain ways in an attempt to manipulate what people think about us, maybe wanting to look like we have things more together than we really do.   From the outside, we and our life appear one way, but on the inside, we're falling apart. We're silently suffering and miserable. Maybe if we're honest, we really don't like who we are, and that is really painful to admit, to even think about, there's so much guilt and shame, so we don't go there. We keep ourselves busy, as a distraction from the truth of this. We work really hard at creating an image that looks like we're happy, that appears as though we're confident and at peace with ourselves, but it isn't real.    In this episode, we're talking about the cost of avoiding the truth and being honest with ourselves is often the feeling that we're not really living, we're sitting on the sidelines of our own lives, going through the motions one day after the next. We're exploring why our brain would ever offer us negative thoughts and beliefs about ourselves, and seven powerful questions you can ask to gain clarity around how you really feel about you.   In this episode, we talk about:   The free worksheet download for this episode.    How To Deal With Difficult People, the free class happening on June 23, 2021. Sign up here.   As always, if you're tired of spinning your wheels and you're ready to get your life back and feel better, I can help. Employee Engagement, Jedi Parenting, Zen Moments & EmpathyHere are 3 techniques to help you improve relationships at work and at home:1)    People support a world they help create. Brainstorming and asking questions to get others to offer solutions makes them feel empowered and they’re more likely to think it’s a good idea if they come up with it. This is a great antidote to apathy and the complaint, “Don’t tell me what to do!”  2)    Are you analytical? “Try honestly to see things from the other person’s point of view” is the principle for you! It challenges us to gather additional data to evaluate. By examining the facts of a person or situation, we can use logic to reframe how we interpret it. It helps us understand human nature, gain insight to other people's thinking and behavior, and neutralize our frustration.  3)    There’s power in saying “me too, I know how you feel.” The story my client shares in this video shows when we’re sympathetic, we transform our relationships and increase happiness. Let’s foster empathy and inclusion by considering what it’s like to be a kid, an intern, a new employee, and a minority. Let’s remember the challenges of reorgs, exec presentations, and pandemic fatigue.   What’s your favorite?More resources: https://linktr.ee/nikkikloeppel

1 Samuel 24:1-7(ESV)  1 When Saul returned from following the Philistines, he was told, “Behold, David is in the wilderness of Engedi.” 2Then Saul took three thousand chosen men out of all Israel and went to seek David and his men in front of the Wildgoats’ Rocks. 3And he tcameto he sheepfolds by the way, where there was a cave, and Saul went in to relieve himself. Now David and his men were sitting in the innermost parts of the cave. 4And the men of David said to him, “Here is the day of which the Lord said to you, ‘Behold, I will give your enemy into your hand, and you shall do to him as it shall seem good to you.’” Then David arose and stealthily cut off a corner of Saul’s robe. 5And afterward David’s heart struck him, because he had cut off a corner of Saul’s robe. 6He said to his men, “The Lord forbid that I should do this thing to my lord, the Lord’s anointed, to put out my hand against him, seeing he is the Lord’s anointed.” 7So David persuaded his men with these words and did not permit them to attack Saul. And Saul rose up and left the cave and went on his way.
