Dr. Jaelline Jaffe is one of the most experienced therapists working with people with misophonia, over on the west coast. Jaelline shares her journey from teaching to becoming a therapist specializing in misophonia. We talk about a ton of things, the importance of family support and school accommodations and we get into her own protocol for approaching misophonia that incorporate cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavior therapy. We spend a lot of time highlighting the role of adverse childhood experiences and epigenetics in understanding misophonia, emphasizing the need for mental health professionals to be aware of these factors in treatment. We also talk about the Misophonia Association annual convention, for which she is a co-founder and board member. It's happening again this October 16th weekend in Phoenix and we talk about what it's all about and how you can learn more. See the link below. Also I wanna mention her new book for clinicians called “These Sounds are Driving Me Crazy!” Training for Mental Health Professionals in Treating Sound Sensitivity Disorders. Know someone difficult to love? In 2024, it feels like there are even more challenging relationships to navigate—whether it's due to the holiday season, political divides, or just the stresses of life.Pastor Matt Surber, of Mission City Church in San Antonio, TX, continues in our Christmas series. In Week 2 of Missing Peace, we tackle the reality of relational tension and the perpetual offense culture we live in today. Paul's teaching in Romans 12 reminds us to:•Bless those who persecute us—not just once, but continually.•Choose love over being right—because Jesus didn't call us to win arguments; He called us to win hearts.•Live at peace with everyone, as far as it depends on us—a radical, countercultural approach to relationships. We'll unpack how being offended is inevitable, but living offended is a choice. Through God's mercy, we can rise above petty arguments and relational tensions by making the decision to “pass over” offenses and protect what truly matters—our relationships.Missioncity.church_______________________________Sermon Notes are available at missioncity.church/watch/

It's easier to be patient after we come to realize how patient our Heavenly Father is with us.   Why is it so hard for parents to be patient with their children?  People who thought they were good and normal adults find themselves tearing their hair out over the things done by a child half their size and a fraction of their age!  One thing we tell parents over and over is that parenting is supposed to change you.  It is supposed to form you.  It is supposed to be challenging, so if you are struggling, that is OK!  But we do have some tips for you and some stories that we hope will help change your perspective on growing in this essential virtue for moms and dads.     Key Takeaways: If you are impatient with your children you are normal!  Lean in and allow yourself to be changed as you grow in virtue Children need adults to slow down and give them time to do things by themselves Parenting takes alot of time!  Lessons need to be taught over and over.  There is no magic bullet.  Parenting is a marathon, not a sprint. We can learn to be patient by first realizing how patient God is with us.  We are disobedient, messy kids but our Father teaches us the same lessons over and over   Couple Discussion:  How would you rate your patience on a scale of 1-10?  How would you rate your spouse?  Discuss this.   What lessons in your life has God had to teach you over and over?  How has God been patient with you?  Which one of your children do you find it most difficult to be patient with and why?  Which of your children to you find it easiest to be patient with?  How can you learn from this?

Pastor Andrew continued our series "Self-Inflicted" with a powerful message titled "I'm Driving Me Crazy." It is so easy to think that other people or external circumstances are the excuse as to why we face obstacles in our lives. But the greatest challenge is the battlefield of the mind. Our mind can deceive us into thinking we are far worse than we really are. This is not to undermine the painful experiences of our lives but to challenge us to think more intentionally about our thoughts during difficult times. The emotional turmoil we experience can sometimes be more intense in our minds than in reality. It's crucial not to overreact and be mindful of the choices we make during life's challenging moments. The chaos might feel overwhelming, but it's essential not to let it dictate our responses. You know when your mind is getting the best of you when you are consumed with worry, not able to be yourself, or your actions reflect that of anxiety, fear, or doubt. It is in these moments our mind begins to whisper thoughts that can result in destruction. These whispers often carry thoughts that don't align with God's plan for our lives. They infiltrate our minds through external influences, the enemy, but most significantly, through our own self-talk. So, how do we navigate through this? We acknowledge that our mind is a powerful tool that can be used to heal, grow, and transform our lives! This is good news. We can determine the outcome of our lives by taking control of our thoughts and realigning them with the truth of God's word. Remember, the loudest whispers are often the ones we say to ourselves. It's time to filter out the thoughts that don't serve us and align ourselves with what God truly desires for our lives. How, then, should we navigate these voices? Here are some ways to quiet the noise in your life and hear what God has to say. When it comes to……- Other people: minimize their influence (not their value).- The enemy: read the bible and repeat scripture over your life. - You - lean not on your own understanding, read scriptures based on the promises of God, and break a sweat (get active and move your body).Sermon Scriptures: - Proverbs 26:20-22- 1 Samuel 18:6-12Additional Scriptures to Explore: - James 3:6 - 1 John 4:18Big Idea: The chaos that you feel will always be driven more by what is happening in your mind than what is happening in your circumstances.Reflective questions for the week: - What thoughts have you allowed to run rampant in your mind recently? Write these thoughts down. Then, reframe these thoughts by writing down a statement of truth that is in alignment with what God says about you. - In what ways (other people, the enemy, or you) are you most negatively impacted by your thought life? - What is one thing you could do this week to help you take every thought captive? Describe this in detail, find accountability, and put it into practice. - Share the negative statement you are letting go of this week with a trusted friend/mentor/City Group Leader, and share with them the powerful statement of truth that you are declaring over your life. Statements to declare over your life: - MY THOUGHTS MUST COME INTO ALIGNMENT WITH WHAT CHRIST SAYS ABOUT ME.- I CAN CONTROL MY MIND. - I HAVE POWER THROUGH THE HOLY SPIRIT TO SURRENDER MY THOUGHTS TO CHRIST.  - MY EYES ARE ON JESUS AND HIS WORD. - I AM NO LONGER A SLAVE TO FEAR. I AM A CHILD OF GOD.

What should you do when your practice partnership feels more like a sinking ship than a thriving enterprise? If you've been asking, "What if my partner is driving me crazy?" this episode is for you. This is a topic no one wants to talk about, but absolutely everyone needs to consider.  And before we dive in, I should say, the objective of this episode is not to fuel animosity but to guide physicians and clinic managers on how to gracefully exit a partnership if it's not working. We want to help you make educated decisions that are both emotionally and financially sound. We see many physicians toiling away, year after year inside of poor relationships in their practice, but not making time to handle it.   So, how do you know that your working relationship is not functioning? What's the easiest way to recognize a dysfunctional working relationship? It's not always as obvious as you might think. Sometimes, the symptoms of a problematic relationship manifest as operational inefficiencies, financial disagreements, or even issues around patient care. You may notice chronic tension or perhaps an unwillingness to communicate openly. And while opposites attract, we've seen some business partnerships that are truly hindered because the partners NEVER agree. You're Driving Me Crazy! Missing Peace December 10, 2023 Luke 2 records the refrain declared by the host of heaven, “Glory to God in highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.” But across centuries, continents, and cultures, no matter which corner of history we search, we discover an overwhelming deficit of peace. Certainly, even a quick scan of today's headlines reveals a serious lack. So, did the angels get it wrong? Perhaps the answer lies in where we're looking. Could it be that instead of searching for evidence of peace around us, we must open our hearts to the gift of peace within us? I invite you to join us as we continue our Christmas sermon series, Missing Peace. It's been said that you can't give what you don't have. The peace the angels sang about begins within us, as we experience peace with God. And then it swells, deeper and stronger, as we extend it to those around us. It's the kind of peace that can't be shaken. It cancels fear, strengthens courage. Peace on earth, in your heart, your family, your community, is possible. It's the promise of Christmas. Come join us this Sunday. ----------------------------------- TAKE YOUR NEXT STEP ---------------------------------- Give Online: https://www.simplechurchgiving.net/App/Giving/dsf Message Notes: https://www.dayspringfellowship.com/sermons Like, comment & subscribe to stay updated!
