Feeling stressed or worried about the 2024 US presidential election? You're not alone. That's why I created a special mindfulness and compassion guided meditation practice back during the 2020 election. I thought it would be good to share again with only 2 weeks from election day. No matter who you support in this election, Kamala or Trump, blue or red, I made this meditation for you and you're welcome here. I hope you find it supportive during this stressful time.Make sure to make a plan to vote and get it done. It's too important to sit out and wish you did more. Go to IWillVote.com to get information on how to register and where to vote. About the practice:It starts with a simple mindfulness practice of checking in with yourself and noticing how you're feeling. Then I invite you to relax into peace and ease with each exhale. Finally I guide you through a simple compassion practice where you'll practice sending compassion to yourself, people who agree with you, people who don't and finally all beings.I hope you enjoy this practice and would love to hear what you think. Connect with me on LinkedIn and send me a DM.Please share this with your friends and write us a 5 Star review on Apple Podcasts!Text Adam w/ comments or questionsPS: I am considering hosting my Life Envisioning Workshop publicly for the first time but I'm only going to do it if enough people are interested. This is a special bonus meditation podcast as a Summer solstice gift to you : ) Are you at a crossroads in life? Are you wondering what steps to take next? This meditation is for you. Whenever you feel shame, embarrassment, or notice yourself going into self-punishment mode because you didn't do something "right", compassion is your medicine. Shame ultimately lives in fear - fear of not being good enough. Compassion can help you love and nurture that inner self that has been trying hard for a long time and deserves to be seen. Tonight's full moon in Cancer (June 21st, 2024) is all about slowing down and letting yourself be. Be in your many expressions - the rawness, fierceness, sadness, confusion, chaos, strength, creativity, and everything in between. Focus more on being rather than doing to absorb the healing of this month and this full moon. As we step into summer (yesterday was the solstice, we have many invitations waiting for us) To feel ready and able to meet those invitations with full trust, joy, and courage, we need to be soft and gentle to the wounded parts of us. To all parts of us. So use this compassion meditation to help you! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/parishams/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/parishams/support

Self-compassion—a gentle embrace of our own humanity—is our refuge when the inner critic grows loud. It's about recognizing that we all share the wish to be free from suffering and hardship. But how do we infuse our meditation practice with this compassionate essence? Beyond Outcomes: Intention transcends outcomes. It's not about achieving a perfect session; it's about showing up with kindness, even when our minds wander or fatigue sets in. Foundation of Self-Kindness: On days when self-kindness feels elusive, our intention becomes our bedrock. It whispers, “You're enough as you are.” Self-Reflect: Pause and connect with your inner self. What do you truly desire from this practice? Is it compassion, peace, self-acceptance, loving kindness? Write It Down: Craft an intention. “I intend to hold myself with compassion.” Let Go of Perfection: Trust that your intention will guide you. Reiki your Intentions. Reiki can support clearing negative energies and raising the vibration and support manifesting intentions for the highest good.  “May I meet my inner struggles with kindness.” “I intend to embrace imperfection with loving kindness, compassion and understanding I am here to learn, grow and evolve.” “May this meditation nourish my body, mind and allow my Soul to shine through.” Mindful Breath Awareness: Begin by silently stating your intention. Breathe in alignment with it, allowing compassion to infuse each breath. Reiki: Asking Reiki to support you in shifting - letting go of for example "overwhelm and calling in compassion." Reiki can clear blocks to compassion, etc.  Visualization: Picture your intention as a soft glow within you. Let it expand, illuminating your entire being. Path Actualization: Imagine walking a path toward your intention. Each step brings you closer to self-compassion. Habit Formation: Use your intention as a daily affirmation. Repeat it during your morning ritual, on a walk or before sleep. Declare Your Resolve: Speak your intention aloud. Let the universe witness your commitment. This activates your empowered creator. Also letting the Universe know you are wanting to call in and go into co-creator mode with Universe.  Journaling: Write about your intention's impact on your practice and life. Begin to know how it manifests and shows up. The more you bring attention to how it is coming in and where the shifts happen, the more it can expand in your life.  Center Yourself: Breathe deeply, grounding... Light Energy Positivity/Reiki: (this is different than "being positive". Because you can be processing sadness and still have "Light Energy Positivy/Reiki" moving through you.) Ensure your intention has beneficial uplifting for you. If you are clearing fear then ask "Clear the fear and bring in peace." What you want to clear + bring in = shifting  Surrender/Trust: Let it unfold naturally; Trust that your intention is HEARD by the Universe, and let go and TRUST/SURRENDER and allow it to manifest for the highest good.  As you sit in stillness, let your intention be your gentle guide—a beacon of light leading you toward ease, compassion, and self-discovery. Remember, meditation isn't about perfection; it's about presence. May your intention ripple through your practice, touching the depths of your being for the highest good.

We begin by sharing a quote from the Dalai Lama, highlighting the importance of compassion in today's world. We invite those struggling with anxiety, panic, or trauma to start with self-compassion, acknowledging that it may be challenging for individuals accustomed to caring for others more than themselves. Cultivating compassion has numerous benefits, especially for those experiencing chronic stress and anxiety. It helps to lower overall stress levels and alleviate anxiety by focusing on positive emotions such as love, kindness, and empathy. Compassion also acts as a soothing balm, countering the harsh inner critic and negative self-talk often associated with chronic stress and anxiety. By nurturing self-compassion, individuals learn to treat themselves with kindness and understanding, finding relief from the turmoil of self-criticism. Cultivating compassion also strengthens emotional resilience, enabling individuals to cope with life's challenges more effectively and respond to difficult situations with balance and thoughtfulness. We share a personal experience where practicing self-compassion allowed us to navigate a challenging day more peacefully and prevented self-criticism from further draining our energy. Cultivating compassion also enhances empathy for others, fostering a sense of shared humanity and reducing feelings of isolation, which can exacerbate stress and anxiety. Additionally, compassion practices encourage reaching out to others for social support, creating a stronger network that provides emotional stability and resources to manage stress and anxiety. On tour, he found himself communing with fans who were struggling with grief of their own. We also hear from researcher Hooria Jazaieri about the relationship between vulnerability and compassion, why compassion is so critical to our relationships, and the many ways we can cultivate more of it. Practice: Find a comfortable place and take a few moments to focus on your breath. Think of a loved one. Allow the feelings of warmth and love to fill your heart. Wish those individuals well. The Four Noble Truths are:1st Noble Truth (dukkha): There is pain, loss, sickness, and death in life.2nd Noble Truth (taṇhā): The cause of suffering is reactive, repetitive craving.3rd Noble Truth (nirodha): There is an end to suffering.4th Noble Truth (magga): There is a path leading to the end of suffering which is the Eightfold Path. This talks closes with a guided compassion meditation which begins at 32 minutes. The phrases used during the meditation are: "I feel you. I care about you. I am here for you."

Self-compassion is something that we are sometimes lacking - we can be our own harshest critic and allow that inner critic to create stress, and frustration within ourselves. Taking the time to acknowledge how compassion works and then turning it in upon ourselves is a beautifully healing exercise. We need to remember that we all have hard times, we none of us can be or get exactly what we want all of the time! I make no apology for using the Loving Kindness meditation technique - it is truly one of the most beautiful meditations. It is also infinitely variable so you can make it shorter or longer, and use phrases that feel more relevant to you in the moment. I hope that this meditation is helpful in bringing solace and compassion to you.Much loveRosanneTo book a one to one session with me, book a chakra reading or to find out more about The Chakra Way Course please go to chakra-way.com Hosted on Acast. The Science of Happiness
A Meditation for When Others are Suffering

The Science of Happiness

Seeing others suffering is painful. Learn to practice both compassion and self-soothing in this guided meditation led by Anushka Fernandopulle. How to Do This Practice: Find somewhere peaceful, sit down and get comfortable. Once you're ready, gently close your eyes. Start taking deep breaths and relax your body. Part by part, release tension in different areas of your body. Think of someone or a group of people you know or have heard of who may be having a hard time. Bring to mind an image of them. Connect with whatever it is they are struggling with. Mentally, make some wishes of compassion for them. For example, “May you be free from pain.” Or, “I am here with you.” You can also use this practice to focus on your own pain. To do this, call to mind your struggles and give yourself the same compassion you gave others. Today's Happiness Break host: Anushka Fernandopulle is a meditation teacher who trained in Buddhist meditation for over 30 years. After studying Buddhism at Harvard, she spent four years in full-time meditation training in the U.S., India, and Sri Lanka Check out Anushka's upcoming meditation retreats https://www.anushkaf.org Follow Anushka on Instagram https://tinyurl.com/ytn3vvhz Follow Anushka on Twitter https://tinyurl.com/485vj8xn Check out Anushka's Dharma Talks https://tinyurl.com/ydacvamn Find another version of the Compassion Meditation practice at our Greater Good in Action website: https://ggia.berkeley.edu/practice/compassion_meditation More resources from The Greater Good Science Center: What is compassion? https://tinyurl.com/2s3ztcpt Take Our Self-Compassion Quiz: https://tinyurl.com/yysrf663 Try Dr. Neff's Fierce Self-Compassion Break: https://tinyurl.com/yk9yzh9u How to Bring Self-Compassion to Work with You: https://tinyurl.com/45zkrkam The Five Myths of Self-Compassion: https://tinyurl.com/2p88vass Read Dr. Neff's interview about Self-Compassion: https://tinyurl.com/286njtje How Self-Compassion Can Help You Through a Breakup: https://tinyurl.com/222scejz Can Self-Compassion Overcome Procrastination? https://tinyurl.com/mrfmvyj We love hearing from you!
