AI and Digital Leadership: Transforming Libraries, Archives, and Museums for the Future (Bloomsbury, 2026) explores how galleries, libraries, archives, and museums (GLAMs) are navigating new leadership styles and organizational frameworks to help meet the challenges posed by a digital society. During this time of digital transformation, galleries, libraries, archives, and museums (GLAMs) are facing a generational challenge that calls on them to rethink their roles and responsibilities, re-evaluate policies and practices, and re-envision creative management and use of their collections. While AI is not new for GLAMs, the rapid development of generative AI has accelerated the pace of change along with a host of risks and benefits. For cultural heritage institutions, the stakes for implementing emerging AI technologies are high as GLAMs navigate questions relating to cultural relevance, limited resources and expanding backlogs of digital collections. GLAMs must also contend with the major intellectual and social implications for supporting entirely new approaches to learning, scholarship and public engagement. As GLAMs strive to keep pace, this book turns to explore how cultural heritage institutions can draw on a model of digital leadership to help them meet the challenges posed by the ethical implementation and use of generative AI in the stewardship of distinctive collections. Although digital leadership has been widely written about in the fields of business management, communication and marketing and information technology, it has not yet been addressed in a book format for the GLAM sector. In addition to discussing the basic definition and concepts of digital leadership, this book explores digital leadership as a critical framework for GLAMs to advance digital stewardship programs, professional development and staff training initiatives, and institutional advocacy in the age of AI. Guest: Angela I. Fritz is Assistant Professor at the School of Library and Information Science at the University of Iowa. Previously, she has held leadership positions at the Wisconsin Historical Society, the University of Notre Dame, and the Office of Presidential Libraries and Museums at the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). Dr. Fritz has a PhD in American history and public history from Loyola University-Chicago, a master's degree in history from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and a master's degree in library science with a concentration in archival administration from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. This episode is sponsored by Teq. One of the biggest challenges in schools right now is capacity. Educators are asked to do more, often with new tools, and very little support. Teq helps by combining classroom technology like SMART Boards and STEM resources with professional learning that respects educators' time and reality. It's support that makes technology usable, not overwhelming.Learn more at Teq.com.In this episode, Jen Casa-Todd and I dive into a topic every educator experiences—but rarely talks about openly: embarrassing classroom moments. We get a bit vulnerable and discuss some of our most cringe-worthy classroom moments and what we did to turn that embarrassment into empowerment. We've all had (or will have) them so let's talk about them and use them to our advantage. This is one episode you won't want to miss. Along the way, John tells unforgettable stories—from winning Olympic silver and an Emmy, to running with the bulls in Pamplona and inspiring a young skater who would later race in an Olympic final—illustrating how memories are the true currency of time. This episode will challenge how you think about success, stress, and how to invest your time for the greatest return. Episode Highlights: John's journey: late start in speed skating, breaking world records, and winning Olympic silver Using design thinking to focus on strengths instead of fixing weaknesses in sport, career, and life The concept of "chronoception," why time feels faster as we age, and how memories are the currency of time Creating "kairos moments" using risk, uncertainty, uniqueness, emotional intensity, beauty, and flow to slow the perceived acceleration of time Practical ways for busy parents and professionals to design surprise-and-delight experiences that expand life through richer memories Time as capital: trading money for time once you're financially secure and intentionally investing in high-return life experiences Stress and flow: why the right kind of stress boosts performance and helps you enter the flow state Storytelling, meaning, and designing moments that are "worth a year" in memory, including Coyle's run with the bulls in Pamplona. Procrastination, pressure, and how John uses deadlines to write books and ship important work. The powerful story of inspiring a young skater who later competes in an Olympic gold medal final—and how that reframed John's own silver medal. Today, Erik sits down with David Hoppe. David is the founder and managing partner of Gamma Law, a firm focused on emerging legal issues in media and technology. He is an experienced international transactional lawyer with expertise in video games, esports, blockchain, digital assets, and immersive technologies. Over his nearly 30-year career, he has advised global clients on financing, licensing, and regulatory matters. David is also a frequent speaker on legal trends shaping the tech and entertainment industries. Topics Covered in this Episode: Big AI lawsuits are here, with billion‑dollar payouts over using stolen content to train models. AI "answer boxes" are stealing clicks from websites, similar to how Google once hurt Yelp's traffic. Large AI companies are paying some publishers for data while still fighting older copyright complaints in court. There's real copyright danger when AI spits out content that is almost identical to the original, including images with old watermarks. Entertainment brands worry that letting AI change their main characters could weaken or confuse ownership of their IP. In schools, using AI too much can hurt students' ability to think deeply, read long texts, and solve problems on their own. Virtual worlds and the metaverse raise new questions about what "private property" and "privacy" mean online. If a chatbot encourages someone to do something dangerous or illegal, the company could face serious legal trouble. Letting AI write legal documents is risky because it can invent cases and laws that do not exist. One of the best current uses of AI in law is sorting and summarizing huge piles of documents for big cases.
