Your support goes directly to creating future episodes and allows this podcast to be ad-free and 100% listener supported. Your kindness means the world to me and I hope you might feel inspired to explore the natural areas where you live.Subtlety and solitude were the theme of the early dawn as I drove towards the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore this morning. The morning sky was replaced by dark, brooding clouds as dawn broke and the crash and retreat of water against the sandy shoreline echoed a symphony that only nature could compose... a soothing rhythm that breathed sustenance into this muted morning. In this quiet, moody atmosphere, the resilient life of the beach was on full display. Dune grass swayed gently with the wind, each whisper adding another layer to the dawn soundtrack filling my ears. Intermingled with the subdued tones of the morning, vibrant shocks of color pierced through, with the Carolina Puccoon flowers shining their intense yellow petals. These hardy blooms were striking against the backdrop of rugged and scraggly pines that stand guard over the dunes, a testament to the beauty of nature. Rainy mornings such as these come with a precious offering - solitude. The beach, often teeming with life, was a haven of tranquility. The soft patter of the rain added a soothing rhythm to the natural melody, each drop a unique note in the lakeshore's grand aria.I spent the morning in unhurried exploration, my camera guiding my movements rather than any pre-set path. It led me across rolling dunes and clusters of wildflowers, while the captivating sounds of the beach played on. Time seemed suspended, every moment a snapshot of serene beauty set against the gentle music of the lake's waves. It was a morning filled with exploration and reflection, where nature's music and visual spectacle were in perfect harmony. As the field recorder captured each note of the morning's melody, I was reminded of the beauty in these unscripted moments and the enduring allure of nature's symphony. It was, undoubtedly, a couple of hours well spent.Recording Details:Date and Time: 6/13/2023 | 5:30 AMLocation: Sleeping Bear Dunes National LakeshoreLandscape/Feature: Peterson Road Beach and Surrounding DunesConditions: 49F (9.5C), Sunrise, Cloudy, Misty, RainRecording Device: Zoom F3 Field RecorderMicrophone(s): Sonorous Objects SO.101 (matched pair in stereo configuration)Support the showThanks for listening! ❤️ Your support means the world to me. When Christ was with His disciples between the Resurrection and Ascension, He was preparing them for His return to the Father. He told them that in this life they will weep and lament with sorrow, but that their sorrow would be turned to joy. In this life, we who are His disciples will suffer in a fallen world in many different ways. But the reality of Christ's presence in our lives and our ability to fellowship with our Lord grants us a joy that is unexplainable.

Carole Brown, prolific author in several subgenres of mystery and suspense, chats with me about her books, the books she loves to read, and her new Nursery Rhyme Suspense Series. You won't want to miss these books about a young woman determined to find out who murdered her brother years ago and the other cases she solves along the way. As one of Carole's reviewers said, "A girl's gotta eat!" (or something like that!). If you like small-town mysteries... she's got them. If you like intense suspense, she's got one of those too.  Western?  Yep. WWII?  Oh, yeah.  Listen in to what she has for your TBR pile. Note: links may be affiliate links that provide me with a small commission at no extra expense to you. If You Love Suspense or a Great Mystery, You'll Love This Author's Books I was first introduced to Carole Brown through her book, Undiscovered Treasures (reviewed HERE). Since then, I've read most of the Appleton mysteries, but during our conversation, I was excited to learn that Carole also writes suspense and... not just contemporary. Brown writes western and historical (WWII... EEEP!) as well. Her first book, The Redemption of Caralynne Hayman, won awards and finalized in multiple contests. Carole says that of all of her books, it is the most intense, which makes sense considering it focuses on a mother's quest to avenge her daughter's murder by a cult. Her most recent release, Catch Me if You Can, is the first in a trilogy about a young woman on the hunt for her brother's murderer and the cases she solves along the way. Catch Me if You Can by Carole Brown The big cat sat on the oversized rock, ears pointed toward the sky, every muscle taut, every sense at the ready. “S-s-shut up and f-f-forget it! You've s-s-seen nothing and know nothing! I won't warn you again. G-g-got it?” His head swiveled, his ears twitching as if catching the hint of threat in the whisper. A soft hiss slid from his open mouth and reinforced the overtone of evil pressing in upon the scene… Coaxed into finding the animal killer at Jamieson's Outfitters, Tara Layne, with her sidekick, Boet, is welcomed by a threatening whisper and the unfriendly eyes of a gruff manager. Within hours, lies and dark secrets are slithering all over the campground. Intermingled with her search, Tara deals with her own buried secrets when a strange old Native American probes into the recesses of her heart forcing her to face her bitter feelings. And Wesley Clarke, manager/guide, both interesting and frustrating, holds an attraction for Tara that is primitive and exasperating. When Tara gets too close, she finds herself—and Boet—the target of someone who's determined to keep from getting caught. His theme: Run as fast as you can, you can't catch me. The question: Can Tara run fast enough to catch this real-life gingerbread boy before he decides to get rid of her and Boet? You can learn more about Carole Brown on her BLOG where you can find links to her books and other social media. Today's guest deejay is Roel Funcken. When I began inviting people to guest deejay on Soundwave I requested mixes that were 30 - 60 minutes long. A 30 minute mix is perfect, but ambient mixes lend themselves to long sets, so I expected a log of guest deejays would not be able to help themselves, and would send me hour long mixes. Then Roel wrecks my format by sending me a mix that's two hours long! But that's what Roel does. He wrecks formats. His expression through music is always from an unexpected angle. It takes you off guard. Strap yourself in for a dense, yet spacious mix. There's nearly 50 tracks on today's show. Intermingled with Roel's mix are songs from his latest album, S1 . MK2. Each of his tracks were recorded in one take. You can find Roel on Soundcloud here and on Bandcamp here. I am currently exactly where I was when I launched Soundweave during the beginning of the pandemic. My wife and kids re aways and it's just me and my dog. The difference is back then Soundwave was my way of coping with the stress and isolation of the pandemic. Now it's just part of our lives. I'm in a different head space. It's a beautiful day and I'm listening to Roel's beautiful mix. While the family is away, I can work on personal projects without distraction. Life is grand. Here we all are, just trying to love God, study the Bible and understand His Word, right? Then – bam – people come up with vastly different interpretations about what it says. Some disagreements may be over small matters. Then others, well, they can have a huge impact on our understanding of really significant things. In this episode of A Jew and A Gentile Discuss, Carly and Ezra take a look at three key Scriptures that are often taken out of context to support the incorrect idea of Replacement Theology: Matthew 21:43, which says that the kingdom of Heaven will be taken away from those who don’t bear fruit and given to those who do Romans 1:16, about the Gospel being “to the Jew first,” which some say reflects nothing more than Paul’s preaching schedule Luke 21:24, which speaks of Jerusalem being trampled by the Gentiles By digging into the fuller context of these verses, you’ll see why Replacement Theology is actually not biblical. Along the way Intermingled throughout the conversation, you’ll also learn: A refresher of what Replacement Theology is The different God-ordained roles of Jewish Believers and Christians

Sidney Abernathy is a folk/alternative country signer originally from Colorado. Now residing in Mexico. I first got acquainted with her music after seeing former guest and friend of the show Matt Pless do a write up of her new album. And was pretty much hooked after that. I've featured two of her songs on this episode. One is called "Medicine" and the one at the end of the show is called "Miss You." They are my favorite tracks off of album No Return Address.  As a lyricist Sidney has everything I admire in a song writer. I hate using the word haunting but if there was ever a time to use it, her album would probably be it. There's depth and sadness juxtaposed with humor and tongue in cheek sarcasm. Intermingled with the classic elements of old american outlaw country. But most importantly her songs are genuine and real. So if you're into maybe the “off the beaten path side of country,” you'll probably dig it. Thanks for listening. Links below. Bandcamp Link Spotify Link

“ RADIO OWLSNEST Episode 11 “ Welcome all my flat faced, big eared, loyal Owlheads to episode 11 of Radio Owlsnest - the place where my rare demos, my song experiments, my oldies, my newbies all get aired in an atmosphere of complete chaos and abandon. Labeled as a songwriter’s podcast for all intents and purposes, I like to think of it as more of a ‘Pagey’ retro magical mystery tour. When I record each show, I’m never sure which songs I’m going to play... my choices are always on the spur of the moment, chosen in the heat of battle. This show is no exception; I just go with the OwlHead flow! Episode 11 is a real cornucopia of styles. Digging into my suitcase of cassettes from the ancient past, recently discovered oldies are randomly thrown together with brand new songs and rare mixes from my catalog. You’ll hear the story behind one of my most-played songs, second only to “In the House of Stone and Light”. I place it within the top five songs that I’ve ever written. I’ll spin a very romantic Gaelic styled demo that is seeing the light of day .... for the first time in Yonkers (AGES!) - I’d literally forgotten about it; It was truly a cassette ‘dive’ discovery. You’ll hear a song I wrote with a Robbie Williams folk album in mind (now there’s an unreal scenario if ever there was one), in which I had to explain to Robbie what a ‘press gang’ was. Journey back with me to an old England pub and the scavenging Royal Navy. I’ll also give a spin to a new track that retraces a moment in time when the world changed forever, and the consequences weigh heavy on all of us still today. Intermingled within the sonics is a different kind of quiz this month... a quiz that requires your judgment - your taste - your personal discrimination and your diplomacy ... I’m sure you’ll all be happy to hear that! So sit back my feathered beasties, fold your weary wings, cradle that coffee, tea or (something stronger), and release yourself into the ether of Radio Owlsnest - where hopefully you can get lost with me for a short while. In this pivotal chapter the people of Israel are numbering the new, faithful, generation that will inherit the Promised Land. Intermingled among the census are three examples of Israel's history that remind us of the dire consequences of our sin. However, that is not the end of the story. Key questions that are considered are: Where are we in the narrative? What is so special about this census? What's the deal with the daughters of Zelophead? What is significant about Joshua's designation as the new leader of Israel? What does all of this have to do with us?
