In this episode, we're joined by Hugo Docking, a filmmaker and the co-founder of Spare Flesh, a stop motion animation and puppetry studio based in the UK. His work is known for its grotesque puppets, dark musical shorts, and incredible craftsmanship that turns stop motion into body horror and twisted comedy. Together, we chatted about Hugo's introduction to horror through Salad Fingers, disturbing British children's media, and how COVID brought him back to stop motion filmmaking. We also learned all about the universe of Spare Flesh and how a passion slowly became a career. We dove into films like Moving Parts and To The Brink, the art of mixing mediums, and creating work in a world of chaos and uncertainty. We absolutely loved our conversation with Hugo and learning about his incredible mesh of horror, comedy, and animation, and we're certain you will too, so … COME HANG OUT!!! Docking sequence engaged—it's time for another entry in the Podcast Assemble Christopher Nolan Anthology. Tommy's been reading A Wizard of Earthsea—one of his dad's favourite books—and found it deeply whimsical, thoughtful, and refreshingly unconcerned with cinematic universes. Meanwhile, DL has fallen hard for Ghost of Tsushima, spending most of his free time quietly becoming a samurai. As Earth slowly dies, a team of astronauts heads into deep space searching for humanity's next home—only to discover that time dilation is the real villain. Tommy still thinks it's one of the greatest sci-fi films ever made. DL's blown away by the scale, even if Nolan occasionally explains quantum physics like a dad aggressively helping with homework. Astronomy Daily — Season 5, Episode 70 Monday, March 23, 2026 In today's episode, Anna and Avery cover six stories spanning a live European rocket launch attempt, a sixty-year-old NASA emergency brought back to life through newly surfaced photographs, a cosmic explosion caught only by its echo, the fight to preserve the night sky, a supply run to the ISS with an unexpected complication, and a first-of-its-kind discovery involving brown dwarf stars. Story 1: Europe's Spectrum Rocket — Bid for Orbit Today Isar Aerospace's Spectrum rocket is attempting its second test flight today — its qualification mission for ESA's European Launcher Challenge. Launching from Andøya Spaceport in Norway, the mission carries five CubeSats and one experiment from European universities and companies, all supported by ESA's Boost! program. If successful, it would mark a landmark moment for European sovereign access to space. Source: ESA — Spectrum's Qualifying Second Launch Story 2: Neil Armstrong — The Gemini 8 Emergency Sixty years ago this month, Neil Armstrong and David Scott survived one of NASA's most dangerous pre-Apollo emergencies aboard Gemini 8. A spacecraft malfunction sent the capsule into an uncontrolled spin reaching one revolution per second. Never-before-seen photographs of Armstrong's recovery have been donated to the Armstrong Air and Space Museum in Wapakoneta, Ohio. Source: Phys.org — Space News Story 3: Astronomers Catch the Echo of a Billion-Sun Explosion Using the ASKAP radio telescope in Western Australia, astronomers identified ASKAP J005512-255834 — a radio signal representing the most convincing "orphan afterglow" of a gamma-ray burst ever detected. The original explosion went unseen because its jet wasn't aimed at Earth, but the lingering radio echo has been detectable for over 1,000 days. Research published in The Astrophysical Journal. Source: The Conversation — A Cosmic Explosion With the Force of a Billion Suns Story 4: The Fight to Save the Night Sky The Royal Astronomical Society, ESA, and the International Astronomical Union have filed formal objections to the FCC over two proposed satellite constellations: SpaceX's application for up to one million orbiting AI data centre satellites, and Reflect Orbital's proposal for 50,000 space mirrors each four times brighter than the full Moon. Experts warn the proposals could permanently transform humanity's view of the night sky. Source: Space.com — Astronomers Protest Giant Orbiting Mirror Project Story 5: Progress 94 Launches to ISS — With a Glitch Russia's Progress 94 cargo spacecraft launched successfully from Baikonur on March 22, carrying around three tonnes of food, fuel, and supplies to the ISS. One of its KURS automated docking antennas failed to deploy after launch. Docking at the Poisk module is scheduled for March 24. If the antenna issue isn't resolved, commander Sergei Kud-Sverchkov will conduct a manual docking. Source: NASA — Progress Cargo Craft Launches to Resupply Station Crew Story 6: First-Ever Brown Dwarf Pair Caught in Mass Transfer Caltech researchers using the Zwicky Transient Facility have discovered ZTF J1239+8347 — the first-ever observed brown dwarf binary undergoing mass transfer. The pair orbit each other every 57 minutes at a separation smaller than the Earth-Moon distance. The system will eventually either merge into a single star or one dwarf will accrete enough mass to ignite fusion. Research published in The Astrophysical Journal Letters. John Maytham is joined by Don Pinnock, investigative journalist at Daily Maverick. He’s been examining the science, history and law behind tail docking, as well as the landmark NSPCA case that saw a breeder convicted for illegally maiming puppies. Pinnock explains how an outdated cosmetic practice collided with clear legal protections — and what this case signals for animal welfare enforcement going forward. Afternoon Drive with John Maytham is the late afternoon show on CapeTalk. Presenter John Maytham is an actor and author-turned-talk radio veteran and seasoned journalist. His show serves a round-up of local and international news coupled with the latest in business, sport, traffic and weather. The host’s eclectic interests mean the program often surprises the audience with intriguing book reviews and inspiring interviews profiling artists. A daily highlight is Rapid Fire, just after 5:30pm. CapeTalk fans call in, to stump the presenter with their general knowledge questions. Dr. JP Novin talks with Dr. Jeffrey Docking about the rapid adoption of artificial intelligence in business, research, and higher education. Dr. Docking shares how Adrian College integrates AI across the curriculum, including the creation of RISE Education to support shared courses and new academic pathways. The conversation focuses on higher education's responsibility to prepare students for an AI-driven future by emphasizing uniquely human skills such as emotional intelligence, creativity, decision-making, and ethical reasoning, while also preparing learners for emerging roles in AI compliance and ethics. Dr. Docking also discusses the importance of curriculum redesign and explains how Adrian's enrollment success is driven by pairing technical degrees with a strong co-curricular experience.
Doug Green, Publisher of Technology Reseller News, sat down with Larry O'Connor, Founder of Other World Computing (OWC), for a follow-up conversation focused on OWC's latest product innovations and the company's long-standing philosophy of helping customers get more life, performance, and reliability from their technology. OWC is an ASCDI member and has built a reputation for designing solutions that “just work,” allowing users to focus on their workflows rather than managing infrastructure. O'Connor explained that OWC's roots in memory and storage upgrades naturally evolved into leadership in Thunderbolt connectivity, direct-attached storage, and enterprise NAS platforms. Today, OWC technology is deeply embedded in professional media, creative, and enterprise environments, often powering workflows behind the scenes. “Our goal is to be the boring part,” O'Connor said, noting that once OWC products are installed, they fade into the background while consistently delivering performance. A key focus of the discussion was OWC's expanded Thunderbolt 5 lineup, including the new StudioStack, which combines high-performance NVMe and spinning storage with additional downstream Thunderbolt 5 ports. Designed for systems with limited expansion options, StudioStack effectively turns a single Thunderbolt port into a powerful external PCI-style expansion point, supporting high-resolution displays, additional storage, and peripherals without sacrificing performance. O'Connor also highlighted OWC's new dual 10-gigabit Thunderbolt network dock, built to address specialized but growing needs in media, broadcast, and enterprise workflows. With two fully independent 10GbE ports, the dock enables network segmentation, bonded throughput, and dedicated traffic paths—capabilities that previously required more complex and expensive setups. “It's a game changer for customers who need predictable, high-bandwidth networking off a single cable,” he said. The conversation concluded with an update on SoftRAID 8.6, OWC's flagship software RAID solution, now enhanced for Windows 11 and the latest macOS. O'Connor emphasized SoftRAID's unique cross-platform interoperability between Mac and Windows, along with its ability to segment drives into multiple RAID levels for optimized performance and longevity—capabilities not possible with traditional hardware RAID. These innovations reflect OWC's continued commitment to performance, repairability, and long-term value across the technology lifecycle. For more information, visit https://www.owc.com/.

Small colleges across the United States face mounting pressure from shifting student expectations, rising costs, and an increasingly competitive higher education market. According to the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center, undergraduate enrollment rose 3.5% in Spring 2025 compared to the prior year, reaching 15.3 million students, but still remains 2.4% below pre-pandemic levels. This modest rebound underscores the urgency for institutions to adapt their models for long-term sustainability, with program growth and innovation emerging as a critical strategy for attracting and retaining students. How can small colleges expand academic offerings quickly and cost-effectively, while maintaining the personal attention that defines their value? In this episode of DisruptED, guest host Darin Francis speaks with Dr. Jeffrey Docking, President of Adrian College, about how consortium-based program sharing and targeted program growth have transformed the school's enrollment and retention strategies. From launching more than 30 new majors to integrating project-based learning, Docking explains how aligning offerings with student and industry needs is reshaping the college experience.Key Points from the Conversation:Shifting from athletics to academic growth: Adrian College expanded beyond sports recruitment by adding high-demand majors through consortium partnerships, responding directly to student feedback.Reducing startup costs with program sharing: Through the RIZE platform, the college offers majors from partner institutions for a fraction of the cost of building programs internally, while preserving small class sizes.Industry-aligned curriculum and project-based learning: Programs are co-designed with academic experts and industry leaders, ensuring graduates enter the workforce with practical, job-ready skills.Dr. Jeffrey Docking has served as President of Adrian College since 2005, leading a period of significant growth and innovation in academic programming. He has over 35 years of experience in higher education and is a national advocate for small college sustainability. Docking holds advanced degrees in higher education administration and is recognized for pioneering collaborative models that expand student opportunities while maintaining institutional efficiency.

Watch on Philo! - Philo.tv/DTHIt's photoshoot time! Everyone is out there waiting including Alicia and Gail. Gail is like last night, I let Alicia down. Not today! Kerry and her daughters are there and I'm pretty convinced Alexandrea doesn't wanna be there. Rob tells his girlfriend Donna about meeting Paul and Andrew on the ship but obviously doesn't tell her about what they talked about. Cut to Paul trying to get Tyler and Kimberley in on the wedding ceremony. So they show everyone getting like 7 seconds to take a picture with everyone. Hynes is down there just goofing off. Rob and Donna come in and Paul is like ROB - making him look awesome in front of Donna. Paige gives Tyler a bracket with her name in it which is wild. Afterwards, Alexandrea was like you should make another bracelet with your number in it. Gail and Alicia meet Betty Hynes who is just the best. They ask her “is Tyler the same on screen and off” and Betty says “he's the bad boy for Hallmark for a reason”. Betty is a star, Paige and Alexandrea are hanging out, and she tells her about moving back to California and how she is nervous to tell mom. Remember Nate and his grandmas? Nate is just soaking up people telling him happy birthday, and I can't stress this enough - it's not his birthday. They're shopping at the hallmark store when Erin Cahill walks up and Erin is like Nate you're the best, happy birthday. And they bond over their mutual love of their grandmas, and Erin buys them everything they have in their hands! Lori and her sister talk about how to get their Christmas screenplay in front of someone at Hallmark. Donna is in the gym now and of course Nikki DeLoach is there. What are the odds?! And they bond. She talks about her brain surgery, Nikki talks about a rabbi she really likes. It's sweet. Gail and Alicia are hanging out and Alicia is like hey I booked us an ATV excision in the Bahamas. Gail is not thrilled by this. But she agrees to give it a shot. Rob and Donna get together for drinks with Kerry and her daughters and it's a whole thing. They bond over surgeries and then Donna and Kerry's daughter go to the bar and Rob tells Kerry his plan and she says her daughter will do Donna's makeup. Plan is really coming together! The script sisters magically bumped in Benjamin Ayers and Sarah Drew and she pitched them the script and they love it. She asks if they will read it and they just kinda stare at each other. Gail gets on the ATV and chickens out. So Kerry and her daughters go to swim with the pigs which is run by Shane Gillis doing a Bahamian accent. Afterward, Paige tells her mom she wants to move to California. She's not thrilled. And then episode ends with Rob, ring box in hand on the beach of the Bahamas, getting ready to propose.
For a long time, nuclear fusion was viewed as a powerful, but unachievable, energy source, because the technological challenges were just too great. But recent advances, particularly in the development of powerful magnets, have reignited the race to create the world's first efficient nuclear fusion powerplant. Claire Concannon visits one private company just outside Wellington who have joined the nuclear fusion effort, with a unique approach they believe might be the key.
