Part of the lake-burst stories may originate in sudden hydrographic changes around limestone-based inland plains or turloughs.in the legend surrounding the lake burst of Lough Neagh, a woman turned mermaid. Her family was drowned, but she survived in an underwater chamber in the lake for a year, after which she was transformed into a being who was half-human, half-salmon.In her mermaid form, she was spotted a monk carrying a messenger sent by St Comgall to Rome. She promised to meet at the seaport inlet of Inbhear nOllarbha in Ireland after one year, and was captured in a fishnet. There she was baptised by Comgall, and given the Christened name Muirgein ("sea-born"). Posited as an ecumenical martyr of charity who died while attending to soldiers on the front, his cause for canonisation was formerly opened in October 2022 in the diocese of Meath which is the beginning of the formal process to get him beatified and canonised. His cause was formally opened at a ceremony in the cathedral of Christ the King on Sunday 20 November 2022. Willie Doyle SJ was born in Dublin in 1873 to an affluent Catholic family and entered the Society of Jesus in 1891. He volunteered as a chaplain in WW1.Willie Doyle SJ has touched the lives of many people, especially those he ministered to in the hellish trenches of the First World War. This week we play a reflection of the life of Edel Quinn by Fr Eamonn McCarthy. Edel was born in Kanturk, Co. Cork in 1907, and in the 1930’s became ill with tuberculosis which prevented her entering the Poor Clares. However God had another plan for Edel. She joined the Legion of Mary and went on the first Legion pilgrimage to Lourdes in 1934. After travelling to England and Wales with the Legion, Frank Duff suggested she spread the message of the Legion in Africa. She arrived in Mombasa in November 1936 and continued working in Africa till she died in 1944.

Most people find out a few key things about St. Patrick's life and then spend the rest of his feast day having a lot of beer. I don't have a problem with drinking beer on his feast day, but people need to find out more about him, especially since it's such a big deal here in America. It's difficult to find an accurate, concise and engaging account of his life, but this one by Robert T. Reily in his book, “Irish Saints,” has everything you need to know. On this weeks programme Michael Keating joins the SS102fm to reflect on the upcoming celebration of St Patrick's Day when all the world decides it is Irish and turns green for a day. But who was St Patrick? Like so many Christian feasts, St Patrick’s Day has been somewhat hijacked. St Patrick has about as much to do with a pint of Guinness as St Valentine has to do with a box of chocolates and a romantic meal for two. But what does this saint, so strong in missionary zeal and about whom we know very little, have to do with our modern day celebrations? While we have many legends about St Patrick, it is makes sense to look to see what writings the saint himself has left us which are regarded as some of the earliest literature from Ireland to discover who he was. The answer to the question comes from his Confessio itself. "My name is Patrick. I am a sinner, a simple country person, and the least of all believers. I am looked down upon by many. My father was Calpornius. He was a deacon; his father was Potitus, a priest, who lived at Bannavem Taburniae. His home was near there, and that is where I was taken prisoner. I was about sixteen at the time. At that time, I did not know the true God. I was taken into captivity in Ireland,along with thousands of others. We deserved this, because we had gone away from God,and did not keep his commandments. We would not listen to our priests, who advised us about how we could be saved. We have gone aside from your commandments … we have not listened to your servants the prophets".The Lord brought his strong anger upon us, and scattered us among many nations even to the ends of the earth. It was among foreigners that it was seen how little I was." We should enjoy the celebrations of St Patrick’s Day, but also remember Christ’s call to conversion in our lives; a call to conversion and change that St Patrick felt so strongly that he left behind everything he had and followed Jesus so that he might bring the gospel to others.

A number of years ago, the Irish bishops petitioned Rome to make a number of amendments to the national liturgical calendar which included the extension of the liturgical celebration of St Ita of Kileedy from Limerick diocese to the whole country. But who was St Ita of Kileed? On this weeks programme John is joined by Michael Keating who is SS120fm's resident guru on all things related to Kileedy and St Ita to reflect with us about St Ita of Kileedy. It is not an easy task as Michael has done this task for SS102fm for quite a number of years and after all there are only some many ways you can tell the same story but some how each year he manages to reflect on a different point aside from the biographical happenings of the saint as we know them.
