This podcast is a conversation with Declan Hammond, the co-founder and former director of the Irish School of Homeopathy. Declan's array of skills are vast but with this podcast, we focus in on homoeopathy. Most people, at least in Ireland, disregard homeopathy as woo-woo or pseudoscience but my hope with this podcast is that the listener becomes more open to this approach to healing. In this full episode, we cover how Declan came across homoeopathy and eventually established a school in Ireland, the philosophy behind homoeopathy and how it can serve as a catalyst for you to change your life. We talk about the need for balanced practicality in the world of medicine reflecting on what can homeopathy aid and it's limitations (in the words of Declan- sometimes a gentle approach doesn't do it). We also cover some memorable transformations it inspired in people over the course of his career, misconceptions about homoeopathy and much more. https://declanhammond.com

Krista shares with us how she discovered homoeopathy personally whilst looking for answers to her children's ill health. Following a positive experience with homoeopathy and gaining an understanding of how homoeopathy works on a deep level within the body working on the root of the issue rather than just the symptoms. Key takeaways: Symptoms come from the disturbance within, they give us information but we are not treating the symptoms The body has an incredible power to heal itself with the right support Homoeopathy can release past life trauma Often what the child needs to heal so does the parent Both being in utero and birth can have an impact on children No two homoeopathic prescriptions are the same Resources: https://www.helios.co.uk/ https://www.helios.co.uk/en/shop/basic-18-kit https://ish.ie/ - Irish School of Homoeopathy https://www.solashomeopathy.com/store/p19/TravelRemedyKIt.html About Krista: After becoming frustrated with chasing symptoms and never getting answers for her son's chronic health issues, she discovered homoeopathy and found a homoeopath. When she witnessed healing like never before she had to know more so she went on to study homeopathy and became a homeopath. She studied and graduated from the Canadian College of Homeopathic Medicine (DCHM) and is a certified classical Homeopath (CCH) with the Council of Homeopathic Certification and a member of the North American Society of Homeopaths (RSHom(NA)). She is passionate about the power we all hold within us and continues to be amazed at how we can access this and ignite this. When we become empowered from within our physical body can respond. Friday, 28 January 2022, 5 – 6:30pm An online webinar to celebrate the launch of the new online exhibition 'Seeing Ireland' which will explore one of the most important events in Irish art history: Exposition D'Art Irlandais, held at Galerie Barbazanges in Paris in Jan-February 1922. Guest speakers include H.E. Vincent Guérend, French Ambassador to Ireland, Mick O'Dea, PPRHA, Sinéad Ní Mhaonaigh, ARHA, Billy Shortall, Angela Griffith, Ciaran O'Neill. The event will also feature a short virtual tour of the 3D recreation of the original exhibition space developed by NoHo Design. This event is organised in partnership with Trinity Long Room Hub. Support is being provided by the Irish Government through the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Decade of Centenaries programme. About the exhibition 1922 was a seminal year for Ireland and Irish identity: the modern Irish state was founded; James Joyce's Ulysses was published in Paris; and the Irish Race Congress, an international conference and accompanying Irish art exhibition that was a reckoning of Irish identity politics, was held in the French capital. As part of the decade of centenaries commemorations an ambitious series of interlinked events and exhibitions will take place in the Midwest US, Ireland, and European capitals in 2022 to reflect on the events of 100 years ago, to examine the journey Ireland and Irish identity have travelled over the past century of statehood, and to look ahead to Ireland's next century. In January, an online exhibition at the Trinity Long Room Hub organised by Prof Ciaran O'Neill and Dr Billy Shortall (School of Histories and Humanities) will interrogate one of the most important events in Irish art history: Exposition D'Art Irlandais, opened at Galerie Barbazanges in Paris in January 1922. The Exposition, associated with the World Congress, featured established and emerging talent in what would become known as the ‘Irish School of Art'. Artists as diverse as Sarah Purser, Jack Yeats, Sean Keating, John Lavery, Lily Yeats, and Constance Markievicz displayed nationalist work in an overt attempt to legitimate a postcolonial presence in the global field for Irish art and crafts. This new exhibition—an immersive experience and 3D recreation of the original exhibition space-- will recreate, remember, and question this foundational moment in Irish art history.

In the US, a sign on the window of a restaurant has sparked a lot of debate around tipping. The flyer apparently reads: “Servers make state minimum wage which is only $5.65/hr, most of which is taken away in taxes!” It continues: “They rely on your tips to make a living! When you don't leave a tip, they would have served you for the duration of your meal for nothing! Take care of those who took care of you!” This got us want to talk about tipping here and what the best thing to do is when out for a meal... Brenda Hyland Beirne of the Irish School of Etiquette joined Andrea to discuss tipping etiquette in Ireland. This episode is about homeopathy. And what healing the entire person really means. Homeopathy was once something I knew nothing about (and I am only brushing the surface right now) and felt pretty random to me, but has since then blown my mind, has changed the way I think about the body, healing, and water. I hope this episode nourishes you as much as it did me. There are so many treasures of healing for us to discover both individually and collectively. Elizabeth is a homeopath who trained with the Irish School of Homeopathy. She obtained her license in 2006 and since then she has had a varied and rich practice, in Ireland in Spain, and online. Now she feels truly inspired as a teacher of homeopathy at the Da a Luz school in the Alpujarras. She wishes to expand teaching and her homeopathic practice to empower as many as possible to truly understand the wonderful bounty of health when it is taken as a personal responsibility on the journey of life. Her practice has been a lot about the family, about healing childhood illness, and the illness of the mind. That said, Elizabeth's homeopathic practice has known no bounds in the conditions treated everything from severe alopecia to infertility, suicidal thoughts to addictions. Her practice has been more about the people than the conditions. The holder of the disease than the disease itself. Usually, her clients are people who are looking to empower themselves and just need to be shown the way. Developing her homeopathic practice she has taken several post-graduate courses with Jeremy Sherr, Anne Walker, Peter Chappell, and Nuala Eising. All of these are inspirational teachers who are breaking new ground for homeopathy. She worked at the Eva Demaya Foundation in Malawi for just under a year, just after graduation. She says that this is when the power of homeopathy became concreted in her mind as the remedies were often the only thing available for serious and advanced conditions. At these critical times, they worked more clearly and brilliantly than ever. She was born in the west of Ireland. Elizabeth is passionate about all things natural, having been raised deep in the countryside, immersed in nature, the wild, and a farm full of animals. Her primary education led her to a degree in Natural Science focused on Biochemistry. Again an immersion to the nature of our being at a cellular level. It was an amazing study. This lead to a Master in Medical systems. In post-graduate years from the science degree, she worked for clinical trials with Quintiles and then subsequently several large pharma and medical device companies like Novartis, Boston Scientific, and Abbotts. These were years where she learned a lot about the materialistic, industrial world and how contrary this is to nature. Only through a love of yoga and an introduction to Homeopathy did she pull herself out of this field of work and to her true joy as a homeopath and teacher. Elizabeth is now a mother of two boys and lives in the Alpujarra, Southern Spain. She continues to work building her teaching and practice of homeopathy. She can be reached through email: elizabethjflynn@gmail.com by telephone (whatsapp and telegram) 0034 603497559 or check out her website (in construction): www.thatlikehealslike.com

Matt Whelan was the first person I interviewed when I started travelling and making podcasts in May 2018. I saw an intriguing little scarecrow on top of one of his thatching jobs across from the cottage I was staying in in Kilmore Quay; I found a calendar celebrating his thatching career in the local community centre; and on his linked-in profile he was listed as “Matt Whelan – thatcher and part time philosopher”. So I had a hunch he’d be a good person to interview, and I was very excited when he agreed to come and meet me near the harbour at the end of my stay (you can hear the sea birds in the interview!) Turns out I was right. Well worth listening – and learning. Recorded in Kilmore Quay, County Wexford in May 2018, and mixed on board the catamaran ‘Graceful Days’ moored in the beautiful Maddalena archipelago marine conservation area, Sardinia, in July 2018. Music: Mona Lisa Smile, words and music by Billy O’Dwyer Bob. Lullaby for Jess: words and music by Matt Whelan himself: vocals Mary Whelan, guitar Nadia Gerber, piano Declan Cosgrove. (“Three special and very beautiful people”). Matt says: “My son turned to me on seeing his first full moon at two years old and said ‘look Dada, there’s a hole in the sky where the moon was’. The rest just fell into place. (Thanks to Jon Bateman for ‘Graceful Days’ and recording the credits for me.) Matt has now set up the Irish School of Thatching to pass on his skills.

CELTIC CHRISTMAS NEWS Welcome to the Celtic Christmas Podcast, helping you celebrate Christmas with Celtic musicians. I'm happy to share this bonus episode of the Celtic Christmas Podcast. I was only planning one episode this year, in December. But this show is brought to you through the generosity of the Patrons of the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast. We hit milestone on Patreon. And now you will get TWO episodes of this podcast. I also decided to turn this normally 30 minute show into an hour-long special focusing on the music. That means I'm gonna talk less, and share more music. So let's get started... First, I want to let you know that you can buy our Celtic Christmas compilation album on iTunes for just $4.99 or buy it on CD Baby. This a great way for you to support this podcast if you're not already a Patron of the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast. And if that's not good enough, you will find Celtic Heartstrings in our store. These are necklaces and Christmas ornaments made from the broken strings of my heart... I mean autoharp. You'll find several designs in my store at MageRecords.com. Follow the link in the shownotes. Finally, if you want even more Celtic Christmas music, I have a playlist. You can listen to Celtic Christmas music on Spotify. And I would love to hear your song recommendations.

Genocide and Ethnic Cleansing in our Times: From Rwanda to the Rohingyas

Following the Bosnian and Rwandan genocides of the 1990s, the international community vowed, as it did in 1945 after the Holocaust, ‘never again'. Yet further conflicts, mass killings and displacements have prompted us to question why intervention takes so long, and how we can stop and prevent genocide and ethnic cleansing in our times. Bringing together a distinguished panel of international speakers and practitioners in the area, the Trinity Long Room Hub's Behind the Headlines discussion will look at the historical context to genocide and ethnic cleansing and its meaning; the different views of the international community in relation to prosecution and responding to cases of genocide; the geo-political dimension and UN system failure and reform; and case studies including present day Myanmar. Speakers: Professor Ben Kiernan is the Whitney Griswold Professor of History at Yale University, and author of Blood and Soil: A World History of Genocide and Extermination from Sparta to Darfur. Currently a visiting fellow at the Trinity Long Room Hub, Professor Kiernan will provide a historical context to the concept of genocide and its meaning, including historical examples of genocide and ethnic cleansing. Professor Rosemary Byrne is Associate Professor in International Law, School of Law, Trinity College Dublin and a former Human Rights Commissioner for the Irish Human Rights Commission. She will consider the approach of the international community in the prosecution of genocide and ethnic cleansing, and its more ambivalent response to survivors seeking international protection. Dr Jude Lal Fernando is Assistant Professor in Intercultural Theology and Interreligious Studies at the Irish School of Ecumenics, Trinity College Dublin and will look at the geo-political fault lines which impede international cooperation and speedy responses to cases of genocide and ethnic cleansing. He will also discuss the United Nations' role and what has been referred to as ‘UN system failure.' Mr Denis Halliday is a former United Nations Assistant Secretary- General and was the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Iraq from 1 September 1997 until 1998. Denis will provide his front-line experience of genocidal action. He will look at the United Nations Security Council, its five veto powers and argue that without change and reform, the UN will continue to fail all those at risk of genocide.

Feeling helpless and with a classroom of his own, Andy's compasionate spirit needed to respond. This school teacher was "called into action" after the Sandy Hook school masacre as well as what he believes other countries around the world perceives as out of control gun laws and wrote a "Masters of War".  Andy has a unique perspective on US gun rights.  I find it interesting to listen to his thoughts as someone looking at the United States from the outside.  Not sure our ideas are the same but I'm willing to listen to his opinions and get an inside look into how the world perceives our 2nd Amendment.  www.andymccarroll.com www.northwestprime.com
