On this weeks podcast we mark Laetare Sunday, Mother's Day (in Ireland and the UK) and of course in Ireland we mark the fact that next week we celebrate the solemnity of our national apostle - St Patrick. In part one we have our regular liturgical odds and ends including the Pope's Prayer Intention for the month of March for peace and disarmament and we have a quick run through the up coming saints of the week.In part two we are sharing a reflection with Michael Keating from the archive where Michael joined us to reflect on the celebration of our national day and ask the question who was St Patrick? Like so many Christian feasts and festivals, St Patrick's Day has been somewhat hijacked - St Patrick has about as much to do with a pint of Guinness as St Valentine has to do with a box of chocolates. But what does this saint, so strong in missionary zeal and about whom we know very little, have to do with our modern day celebrations? While we have many legends about St Patrick, it is makes sense to look to see what writings the saint himself has left us which are regarded as some of the earliest literature from Ireland to discover who he was. The answer to the question comes from his Confessio itself. "My name is Patrick. I am a sinner, a simple country person, and the least of all believers. I am looked down upon by many. My father was Calpornius. He was a deacon; his father was Potitus, a priest, who lived at Bannavem Taburniae. His home was near there, and that is where I was taken prisoner. I was about sixteen at the time. At that time, I did not know the true God. I was taken into captivity in Ireland, along with thousands of others. We deserved this, because we had gone away from God,and did not keep his commandments. We would not listen to our priests, who advised us about how we could be saved. We have gone aside from your commandments … we have not listened to your servants the prophets".The Lord brought his strong anger upon us, and scattered us among many nations even to the ends of the earth. It was among foreigners that it was seen how little I was." In the very opening paragraphs of the autobiography, St Patrick offers a meditation on the gift of faith and the praise that we owe in return to God for such a gift. Perhaps this is St Patrick's greatest relevance, particularly in a culture that seems increasingly hostile to declarations of faith. He refuses to stay quiet; his evangelising zeal comes from knowing that he must speak to others of Christ:“That is why I cannot be silent – nor would it be good to do so – about such great blessings and such a gift that the Lord so kindly bestowed in the land of my captivity. This is how we can repay such blessings, when our lives change and we come to know God, to praise and bear witness to his great wonders before every nation under heaven.”We should enjoy the celebrations of St Patrick's Day, but also remember Christ's call to conversion in our lives; a call to conversion and change that St Patrick felt so strongly that he left behind everything he had and followed Jesus so that he might bring the gospel to others. The Royal Irish Academy published a booklet of the Confessio by Padraig McCarthy which is freely available online HERE. In part three we have our weekly reflection on the Sunday gospel which this week is John's account of the healing of the man born blind. This week we're switching gears and flipping the breaker on something a little unexpected — the shocking history of Valentine's Day.Long before heart-shaped candy and Hallmark cards, the story of Valentine's Day was filled with rebellion, underground weddings, ancient Roman festivals, and a few legends that blur the line between myth and history. Who was Saint Valentine really? Why was love once considered an act of defiance? And how did we go from martyrdom to chocolate? We'll trace the circuit from ancient Rome to modern romance — separating fact from folklore and uncovering how traditions evolved over centuries. It's history, it's culture, it's a little bit rebellious… and yes, we'll probably find a code analogy or two along the way.Grab your favorite person (or your favorite beverage) and join us live.Because even electricians deserve a little spark. ❤️⚡♠️

Friends of the Rosary,Alongside Saints Cyril (827-869) and St Methodius (826-885), we honor today St. Valentine, Bishop and Martyr of Rome (died c. 269), a blessed Catholic priest beheaded.Valentine, along with St. Marius, aided the Christian martyrs during the Claudian persecution.Claudius Caesar, the Emperor, issued a decree forbidding young men from marrying to increase the size of his army. He believed that single men made better soldiers than married men.A young priest named Valentine defied this decree and urged young lovers to come to him in secret so that he could join them in the sacrament of matrimony.Claudius arrested and brought before him, attempting to convert him to Roman paganism rather than execute him. But Valentine tried to convert Claudius to Christianity, at which point the Emperor condemned him to death. While in prison, Valentine converted his jailer, Asterius, and his blind daughter, miraculously restoring her sight. The night before his execution, the priest wrote a farewell message to the girl and signed it affectionately "From Your Valentine," a phrase that lives on even to today. After performing many miraculous cures and giving much wise counsel he was beaten and beheaded under Claudius Caesar on February 14th, 273 AD in Rome. The church in which he is buried was already the first sanctuary Roman pilgrims visited upon entering the Eternal City.Today, St. Valentine's Day is a universal symbol of friendship and affection shared each anniversary of the priest's execution. Valentine has also become the patron of engaged and affianced couples.Ave Maria!Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Please give us the grace to respond with joy!+ Mikel Amigot w/ María Blanca | RosaryNetwork.com, New YorkEnhance your faith with the new Holy Rosary University app:Apple iOS | New! 34 Do not think that I came to send peace upon earth: I came not to send peace, but the sword. 35 For I came to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.[35] "I came to set a man at variance": Not that this was the end or design of the coming of our Saviour; but that his coming and his doctrine would have this effect, by reason of the obstinate resistance that many would make, and of their persecuting all such as should adhere to him. 36 And a man's enemies shall be they of his own household. 37 He that loveth father or mother more than me, is not worthy of me; and he that loveth son or daughter more than me, is not worthy of me. 38 And he that taketh not up his cross, and followeth me, is not worthy of me. 39 He that findeth his life, shall lose it: and he that shall lose his life for me, shall find it. 40 He that receiveth you, receiveth me: and he that receiveth me, receiveth him that sent me. 41 He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet, shall receive the reward of a prophet: and he that receiveth a just man in the name of a just man, shall receive the reward of a just man. 42 And whosoever shall give to drink to one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, amen I say to you, he shall not lose his reward. 34 Do not think that I came to send peace upon earth: I came not to send peace, but the sword.Nolite arbitrari quia pacem venerim mittere in terram : non veni pacem mittere, sed gladium : 35 For I came to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.veni enim separare hominem adversus patrem suum, et filiam adversus matrem suam, et nurum adversus socrum suam : 36 And a man's enemies shall be they of his own household.et inimici hominis, domestici ejus. 37 He that loveth father or mother more than me, is not worthy of me; and he that loveth son or daughter more than me, is not worthy of me.Qui amat patrem aut matrem plus quam me, non est me dignus : et qui amat filium aut filiam super me, non est me dignus. 38 And he that taketh not up his cross, and followeth me, is not worthy of me.Et qui non accipit crucem suam, et sequitur me, non est me dignus. 39 He that findeth his life, shall lose it: and he that shall lose his life for me, shall find it.Qui invenit animam suam, perdet illam : et qui perdiderit animan suam propter me, inveniet eam. 40 He that receiveth you, receiveth me: and he that receiveth me, receiveth him that sent me.Qui recipit vos, me recipit : et qui me recipit, recipit eum qui me misit. 41 He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet, shall receive the reward of a prophet: and he that receiveth a just man in the name of a just man, shall receive the reward of a just man.Qui recipit prophetam in nomine prophetae, mercedem prophetae accipiet : et qui recipit justum in nomine justi, mercedem justi accipiet. 42 And whosoever shall give to drink to one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, amen I say to you, he shall not lose his reward.Et quicumque potum dederit uni ex minimis istis calicem aquae frigidae tantum in nomine discipuli : amen dico vobis, non perdet mercedem suam.St Valentine, a holy Roman priest assisted with other pious Christians a great number of martyrs. He was beheaded under Aurelian, A.D. 270.

On today's Bible Answer Man broadcast (02/13/26), Hank discusses the origins of Valentine's Day, looking at the Orthodox Church's veneration of Saint Valentine, the Presbyter from Rome, for his martyrdom, and, as for all its saints, honors St. Valentine as a model of life in Christ. According to The Oxford Dictionary of the Christian Church, the traditional association of St. Valentine's Day with courtship is likely connected with certain customs of the pagan festival Lupercalia. If so, this would be another example of Christians usurping a pagan holiday and Christianizing it for the glory of Christ.Hank also answers the following questions:Why didn't God actualize the angels in righteousness before they fell? Crystal - Kansas City, KS (15:39)Since Paul in 1 Corinthians 1:10 says there should not be divisions amongst believers, what does this say about all the different denominations within the body of Christ today? But this one still packs a punch, ghost stories and all.Support the showFind us at: gxparanormal.com Watch On YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@generationxparanormal Listen: • Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/generation-x-paranormal/id1661845577?i=1000666351352 • Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/6zQmLQ0F78h8KRuVylps2v?si=79af02a218444d1f Follow us on Social Media: • Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/GenXParanormal • Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/generationxparanormal/ • Twitter (X): https://x.com/GXParanormal

Friends of the Rosary,Today, February 14, we celebrate the memorials of St. Cyril (827-869), a priest and a philosopher and his brother St. Methodius (826-885), and St. Valentine, Bishop and Martyr of Rome (died c. 269), patron saint of engaged couples, happy marriages, lovers, etc.In ancient Rome, Emperor Claudius issued a decree forbidding marriage, believing that single men would be better soldiers than married men.Valentine defied this decree and urged young lovers to come to him in secret so that he could join them in the sacrament of matrimony. The Emperor had Valentine arrested and attempted to convert him to Roman paganism. In turn, Valentine tried to convert Claudius to Christianity, at which point the Emperor condemned him to death. He was executed on February 14th, 273 AD in Rome. The Martyrology says, "At Rome, on the Flaminian Way, the heavenly birthday of the blessed martyr Valentine, a priest. After performing many miraculous cures and giving much wise counsel he was beaten and beheaded under Claudius Caesar."Valentine has become the universal symbol of friendship and affection, and February 14 is celebrated as St. Valentine's Day.Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You!Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary!+ Mikel Amigot | RosaryNetwork.com, New York • February 14, 2025, Today's Rosary on YouTube | Daily broadcast at 7:30 pm ETEnhance your faith with the new Holy Rosary University app:Apple iOS | New! Hi and Welcome to the latest episode of the True Hauntings Podcast. In this episode we go back the the days of mobsters, gangs, violence and corruption. What's has changed you may well ask?!!and Happy Valentine's Day Lovers - we picked this episode's topic just for you!The St. Valentine's Day Massacre stunned the world back in 1929 when news broke out about a brutal mass murder on Chicago's North Side.During that time Chicago's streets were dominated by gang conflicts, with notorious mob boss Al Capone working to grab more power, by eliminating rivals involved in bootlegging, gambling, and prostitution. This wave of violence reached a gruesome peak on February 14, 1929, in a garage on the city's North Side. Seven men linked to Irish gangster George “Bugs” Moran, one of Capone's long-standing adversaries, were gunned down by men disguised as police officers.Could this act of violence leave an imprint so heavy that it is still felt almost 100 years later? We look at Valentine's Day from a paranormal perspective. There seems to be a trail of ghosts and spooky activity that haunt the sites associated with the February 14th massacre in Chicago.Let's look into some of the history and the ghost stories and experiences people have had in the places where it happened and see if we can separate fact from fiction.Anne and Renata hope that you enjoy this episode and that you subscribe to our podcast.Consider supporting our work by buying us a "cup of coffee" https://www.buymeacoffee.com/anneandrenataORbecome a Grand Poobah Patreon supporter, and join our inner circle of craziness!https://www.patreon.com/anneandrenataOur Patreons get to hear all of the bloopers as well as extra lives on a private Patreon page.Join us on our Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/TrueHauntingsPodcastPlease subscribe to our YouTube Channel as we are wanting to get more views and engagement and check out our travel videos Frightfully Good Misadventures - we are adding new episodes of some of our latest adventures every week. Also Follow Anne and Renata:Facebook: @AnneAndRenataInstagram: @AnneAndRenataYouTube: @AnneAndRenataTikTok: @AnneAndRenataWe pass on our HUGE THANK YOU for listening and following. We could not do this without you.#anneandrenata #ghosts #hauntings #paranormalpodcast #frightfullygood #FrightfullyGood #HauntedHolidays #diaryofaghosthunter #poltergeist #ghostbusters #stvalentinesday #stvalentinesdaymassacre #alcapone #chicagomobsters #deathsonstvalentinesday #killingsonstvalentinesday #gangwarefare #hauntedchicago #roaring20s #hauntedpodcasts #podcastinglife #letsmakethiswork #podcastsaboutghosts #podcastsabouthauntedsites Hosted on Acast. Tonight, we'll read St. Valentine's Day; or, The Fair Maid of Perth by Sir Walter Scott, as part of the Waverly novels. St. Valentine's Day was one of Scott's later works, published in 1828, and it draws on real Scottish history—including the infamous Battle of the North Inch. The heroine, Catharine Glover, is based on a real legend about a glovemaker's daughter in Perth. Medieval glove-making was a surprisingly respectable trade—and could be likened to haute couture of the 14th century. — read by 'V' — Sign up for Snoozecast+ to get expanded, ad-free access by going to snoozecast.com/plus!
