The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds in New Orleans and Chris Fetters and Scott Eklund in Seattle - break down the biggest media day of the run-up to Monday's Sugar Bowl clash between Texas and Washington - Saturday's Media Day at the Caesars Superdome. This is the day where basically no one is off limits for either team, so it's a free-for-all for the media to find players and talk with them. And in the case of Texas, apparently they don't get to talk to any players or coaches until after games are played, so this was an even bigger day for them than it was for the UW media. The Texas Longhorns were first to the Superdome, and Kim caught up with former UW assistants Pete Kwiatkowski and Jeff Choate. Kim has detected an air from the Texas side of things that resembles more than just belonging in this game; they are supposed to be here. But UW? Apparently the Huskies still hold outsider status, but it's an odd juxtaposition because UW has been given loads of credit for what they've done during the 2023 season yet the media as a whole outside the Pacific Northwest aren't believers. They still think the Huskies are bound to slip up, even though they hold a 20-game winning streak - tops in the country. After a quick break to pay some bills, the talk turns to the coaches and players Kim talked to of the Purple and Gold persuasion, starting with JaMarcus Shephard and Scott Huff. Then the guys talked about the players Kim was able to speak with, starting with the Chuck Norris of UW Football, Zach Durfee and then moving onto conversations with Austin Mack, Dylan Morris, Curley Reed, and others. To finish off the podcast, Kim talked about his first impressions of being inside the Caesars Superdome and what the players might be dealing with on Monday in terms of the atmosphere, the lights, and more. And he also dropped an interesting nugget about New Year's Eve and how the Canal Street parade and following French Quarter proceedings could impact one team more than the other. Also, with the 2021 signing class in its third season in the program, it's worth looking at how good transition recruiting classes have been to the Longhorns. After missing bowl season a year ago, the Texas Longhorns take the field one more time this year, squaring off against No. 12 Washington Huskies in the 2022 edition of the Alamo Bowl. Texas will be without three key pieces of the equation, as Bijan Robinson, Roschon Johnson, and DeMarvion Overshown all have declared that they will be skipping the game as they prepare for the 2023 NFL Draft. That means fans will likely get a glimpse at some of next year's key contributors will look like as they face off against Michael Penix and the high-powered Huskies offense. To help us preview the Huskies, we reached out to Gabey Lucas (@Gabeynotgabby) of the UW Dawg Pound to provide insight. We discuss how to slow down the Huskies offense and what UW fans think of Steve Sarkisian and Pete Kwiatkowski. Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. Rod Babers, Matt Butler and Jeff Howe are back to review the Texas Longhorns' 55-14 drubbing of the Kansas Jayhawks and look ahead to the regular-season finale against the Baylor Bears. What made Steve Sarkisian's game plan on offense drastically different from one that failed in the previous week's loss to TCU? What continues to be the catalyst for Pete Kwiatkowski's defense making one of the most significant turnarounds in the country in 2022? Those things and more get discussed on the latest Longhorn Blitz podcast! You can get the latest Longhorn news and analysis at Horns247. The Texas Longhorns' defense came into the game with TCU Horned Frogs ready to win a must-win game, but couldn't get matching energy from the offense in the frustrating loss. Defensively, the Longhorns held TCU to their season-low scoring and yardage outputs, putting up season-high performances in sacks and scoring the only touchdown for Texas in the contest. The defensive performance was masterful and hopefully can be indicative of things to come for the remaining two games and the future under Pete Kwiatkowski. However, the Longhorns turned in one of the worst defensive performances in recent memory, and one of the worst rushing performances in the history of Texas Longhorns football. The inaccuracy of Quinn Ewers on the deep ball allowed the Horned Frogs to box up Bijan Robinson and stymie the Texas offense. Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. Rod Babers, Matt Butler and Jeff Howe are back to examine a 41-20 win over UTSA and what it means for Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian. For the third time in as many games in 2022, the Longhorns had to overcome adversity and did so by pulling away from a quality opponent to the tune of a three-touchdown victory thanks to a renewed mindset, the maximization of Roschon Johnson and Bijan Robinson in Sarkisian's multi-back packages and a change of scenery that's apparently helped Pete Kwiatkowski to be more dialed into what's happening during the game on defense. Rod Babers, Matt Butler and Jeff Howe are back. On this week's podcast, the guys dive into whether betting on better coverage in the secondary or trying to manufacture a more effective pass rush is the bigger key to fixing the Texas defense in 2022. Head coach Steve Sarkisian has started his offseason comments on improving the defense by playing tighter coverage but is that a gamble that can pay off and allow Pete Kwiatkowski to put a better product on the field in his second season as the unit's coordinator? There's plenty of data to show that focusing on either area is good move considering how much the Longhorns came up short in both areas last season.
