As the nation gathers around their television sets, there will be many football coaches and scouts who watch Brock Purdy slingshot completions and wonder, “What did I miss?” But not Dave Boller. To get the inside story on Purdy's rise, the “Go Long Show” welcomes on the longtime football scout who most certainly was a believer from Day 1. Boller knew the Purdy family as an Arizona guy himself and he tried to tell schools that the kid had it. Now, the lightning-fast processor has the San Francisco 49ers on the doorstep of Ring No. 6.Our personnel man, co-host Jim Monos, worked with Boller on the Philadelphia Eagles personnel staff. Boller is a well-traveled man. He spent two decades in the NFL, scouting for the Buccaneers (1995- ‘98), Eagles (1998- ‘04) and Rams (2004- ‘07), before working as the Lions' assistant pro director (2007- ‘09), consulting NFC teams (2010- ‘12) and joining the Jets as an area scout (2012- ‘14). From there, he headed to the college ranks. Boller spent the 2015 and 2016 seasons in Louisville. First as director of on-campus recruiting, then as director of high school relations. He had a front-row seat to Lamar Jackson's ascent. Then, it was off to Syracuse where Boller was the director of player personnel 2007- ‘22. Boller is the head of personnel for the St. Louis Battlehawks of the UFL today.He tried to convince Dino Babers to give Purdy a shot, but the Syracuse coach didn't believe. (Babers wasn't alone, either.)The revisionist history on Purdy gives Boller a chuckle. We get into everything and I swear that ‘Cuse crew you see on camera was at the top of the pile, a total coincidence. Boller, an open book, details why he had such conviction on Purdy, shares Jackson stories from Louisville — what did colleges miss here, too? — and takes you all the way back to the Philadelphia Eagles' draft meetings ahead of selecting Donovan McNabb over Ricky Williams in 1999. They knew they'd be crucified by fans, and warned McNabb accordingly. The Florida State Seminoles reached 5-0 on the season after a win over the Virginia Tech Hokies. This weekend, they'll host the Syracuse Orange in an attempt to reach bowl eligibility. Each week, as part of our Line of Scrimmage series, we'll be speaking with members of the beat that covers FSU's upcoming opponent, getting all the details from those who know those teams best. The Syracuse season started off hot with a 4-0 record but will be headed into Tallahassee after back-to-back losses. To help us catch up on the up and down season for the Orange, we'll be joined by Christian De Guzman of SBNation's NunesMagician, who tackled the following questions: Let's start with head coach Dino Babers. I like Babers, I could start each day watching his locker room speech after the Virginia Tech upset. He's 4-2 on the season, after a 7-6 record last year. What's the overall feelings with Babers at the helm for Syracuse? Are you happy with where he has the program? While last year saw quarterback Garrett Shrader and the Orange struggle against Florida State, it was a different story in 2021 when Shrader shredded the Seminoles with 137 yards on the ground and three touchdowns. This year, he ran wild against Purdue but has been pretty contained, at least on the ground, in the other games. Where do you feel Shrader has improved overall this year? And where does he still struggle?  Sticking to the backfield, Sean Tucker is gone and in his place is LeQuint Allen. The sophomore is averaging just over 4.5 yards per carry this season. Is Allen the big bruising back or the speedy/shifty type? Also, any other names to know from the backfield? As far as receiving, Shrader appears to have spread the ball around pretty well so far with eight players catching at least six passes. Who are the names to know at receiver or tight end? And has the group taken any steps back with the Oronde Gadsden injury? Last question on offense, Shrader has been sacked 14 times this season and the offensive line has suffered it's fair share of injuries with the loss of David Wohlabaugh and Kalan Ellis. Would you put that on just the step up in competition or has the defense taken a step back overall? Let's go front to back on defense. Dino Babers is a family man. Entering his seventh season as Syracuse University's head football coach, Babers has always preached the value and importance of family as Syracuse's head coach. On a special Father's Day 'Cuse Conversation, Babers shares stories from a childhood spent growing up on a military base with a father, Luther, who served in the Navy for 21 years, how that upbringing influenced his coaching style and how his father taught him discipline. Our guest today is  poet, artist, mentor, public speaker, actor, Marquesha Babers. She was 15 years old and experiencing homelessnesss on the streets of Hollywood, when she met the filmmakers working on what would become a new documentary called AMERICAN STREET KID. Since then she's performed on VH1's Verses & Flow, been featured in The New York Times, and performed for global icons like Angelina Jolie, Hillary Clinton, Princess Reema Al Sah-ood of Saudi Arabia, and Freida Pinto. She studied poetry for four years with the youth poetry group GET LIT.
