Welcome to Rock Your Shine: After you've been cracked wide open. On this show, I sit down with people from all over the world to hear their transformational stories on their deep grief and loss journeys.    In this episode, I sit down with Jordon Ferber, a stand up comedian, podcaster and a bereaved sibling. We delve into Jordon's grief journey following the tragic loss of his 21-year-old brother, Russell, in a car accident on July 6th, 2002. Jordon shares how he established himself as a voice in the bereavement community, becoming the co-leader of the Compassionate Friends Manhattan Siblings Group for the past decade. He also launched his  podcast 'Where's the Grief?'. His guests are (mostly) comedians who have experienced tragic loss.    In this episode, Jordon also discusses the challenges he faced in integrating his loss into his comedy career, as well as the benefits he found in participating in bereavement groups. Jordon's story is a testament to resilience, the healing power of supportive communities, and the potential for humor to bring light into our darkest moments.   He and his family run The Russell Ferber Foundation, which provides scholarships to the Culinary Institute of America. He produces a yearly comedy benefit show for the foundation, continuing to bring people together and carry on the spirit of his brother Russell through love and laughter. In his spare time, Jordon enjoys writing short blurbs about himself in the third person.   **TRIGGER WARNING** This episode covers sensitive subject matter and is not suitable for all listeners. CONTENT WARNING: Please note that this episode contains depictions and stories of siblings lost by suicide, homicide and/or domestic violence. We understand that some people may find these triggering, activating and/or disturbing. Meet Jordon Ferber, a surviving sibling who's traversed the labyrinth of loss through a mix of tender reflection, candid conversations, and a dash of humor. Jordon recounts the larger-than-life story of his younger brother Russell - an inspiring young man who managed to charm the New York Knicks at the tender age of 13. Jordon shares the story of Russell's exciting life throughout the celebrity chef world and is burning passion that kept him succeeding.    In this episode, Jordon and I unpack the surreal moments at the morgue, the unexpected triggers that bring memories flooding back, and our unique paths through the darkest times. From scattering ashes in favorite places, to getting tattoos in remembrance, we find solace and sometimes even humor in the rituals of grief. We also confront societal norms around male grief, challenging the damaging stereotype of men 'rubbing dirt in it and getting back out there'. Jordon also shares his experiences with Compassionate Friends, a peer support network that played a crucial role in his grief journey. Join us for this touching, inspiring, and even occasionally humorous exploration of sibling loss.   In the episode we're covering: (0:13:45) - Surviving Siblings Bond and Share Memories (0:25:51) - Coping With Tragic News and Loss (0:29:45) - Grief, Family, and Unexpected Moments (0:38:27) - Grieving and Finding Humor in Mourning (0:55:37) - Compassionate Friends in Grief Journey (1:11:29) - Breaking Societal Stereotypes of Male Grief   This Episode is sponsored by The Surviving Siblings Guide. ✨Get The Surviving Siblings Guide HERE  For full episode show notes and transcript, click here   Connect with Jordon: Jordon's Instagram: @beatniknudnik Facebook: Where's The Grief  Instagram: @wheresthegrief Twitter: @wheresthegrief Facebook: Russell Ferber Foundation Instagram: @RussellFerberFoundation    Connect with Maya: Podcast Instagram: @survivingsiblingpodcast Maya's Instagram: @mayaroffler TikTok: @survivingsiblingspodcast Twitter: @survivingsibpod Website: Thesurvivingsiblings.com Facebook Group: The Surviving Siblings Podcast YouTube: The Surviving Siblings Podcast Patreon: The Surviving Siblings Podcast

In grief land, lots of groups are talked about as invisible or forgotten. Children, parents grieving a miscarriage, ex-partners, and siblings. For siblings, their grief often exists in the shadow of their parents – or it's at least treated that way by others.  Jordon Ferber ran into that when his younger brother, Russell, died when Russell was 21. While Jordon's parents recognized that Jordon needed support just as much as they did, the rest of his sphere started where most people do, with the question, “How are your parents?” Jordon is the host and creator of the Where's the Grief? podcast. He's also a longtime facilitator for a sibling grief support group through The Compassionate Friends.  Follow Jordon on IG & Facebook. **Note: this episode contains salty language.**

On the latest edition of Grandma’s basement, Chris, Warren, and guest co-host Jordon Ferber try to make the show more conspiracy-oriented. The three men agree that they are all somewhat watered down versions of their respective fathers, but Chris has a hard time believing Warren is any less annoying than his father. Chris and Warren accuse each other of not being well informed on recent debt-ceiling talks. The crew debates whether a video of a UFO sighting in San Paolo, Brazil was doctored. If aliens are out there, Chris hopes they’re all like Alf and eat cats. Warren delights in being able to crush Chris’s dreams of time traveling with a new Chinese study that says travelling faster than the speed of light is impossible. Warren wants the old Dominos advertising campaigns back. Jordon recalls a fateful encounter with a beehive at summer camp. Chris wants vaginas texted to his phone instead of the steady slew of dick photos he has received after his girlfriend played a cruel trick on him. All this and much more live from Grandma’s basement.

THIS JUST IN: Illegal baby bartering at Walmart proves that white trash babies are more valuable than any other babies. Except for slave babies, who will give you a lifetime of benefits. If you want a useless meth baby, however, just go to Walmart and look for the drugged out mullet champ holding a $25 dollar baby. Can you say rollback? Katy Olson's babies are soon to be famous for inventing the breast bong. Milk in shot form is the best kind of milk. Other than tittie milk. An unbeatable combination! Today Danny Lobell continued to amaze the universe with his idiocy. "Commence" does not mean "to end". I might be getting ahead of myself here, but I THINK it means the opposite...can we get confirmation? Then Chris Iacono's hateful existence reached new heights. He hates hard tacos. Michael Ian Black, our call-in guest, was so offended by this that he hung up. A dial tone is truly the best reaction to this blasphemy. Michael Ian Black hides his career from his children. Because if they find out what he does, they'll probably also find out about his other, far superior, secret family. Why on earth did Jordon Ferber get a B.A. in liberal arts? It doesn't matter because his girlfriend is a solid ten. Black models and short pocket Jews can have true love, somehow. Lucky bastard. As usual, Chris tried to prove to someone (is anyone listening?) that he can get hot chicks too. Intern Allison was forced to go into the studio to crush his daydreams. Also known as lies.
