The joy is in creating. Welcome to The JOY Series on the Dear Daughters Podcast! It's all about finding joy in the places and things and people closest to you because I want you to have the joy in your life that you are seeking. This week we are wrapping up the first part of the JOY Series, talking all about creating a home you love. This week, I have Kennesha Buycks with me (again!) to get her perspective on creating a beautiful home. Kennesha lives in Seattle with her husband and four kids. She created Restoration House, a home and lifestyle brand that focuses on finding and celebrating the story of each home, and her new online shop where she sells unique and antique things she finds. I love her perspective and creativity and wisdom and can't wait for you to listen in to our conversation. It's easy to be overwhelmed by the things we don't like in our home. When that happens, Kennesha asks the question, What can you do? Kennesha believes that the joy is in creating. There's always something we can add to bring in a little flavor and joy to your home. And she has so many good ideas for how to do that. I hope that you can find joy in creating and ”storying” your home, whether you add a little bit here and there or take on a big decorating project. I hope that this first part of The JOY Series has been inspiring and empowering … and I pray that you find joy in a home that you love every day. Welcome to the first Go + Tell Gals podcast episode of 2022! This one's got a few moving parts, but hang through it - we think it's very helpful. Please listen to our announcement right at the beginning. Kennesha is obediently stepping into something new and beautiful that God has asked her to, which means stepping down as a co-host from the podcast. We're so grateful for how she has led powerful, engaging conversations over the past 9 months and shifted this podcast (and all of GATG) for the better. She's accessing her God-given desire and is creating space for what He has called her to - and nothing could be more on-brand or beautifully connected to GATG than that. Join us in rallying around our friend Kennesha and praying for her as she moves in obedience. Follow along with her on Instagram to keep up with what's next. Now, into the episode - a coaching session from Jess and a Q+A to help start our year off on the right foot. We need a more comprehensive, intentional, spiritually-awake, and intelligent plan to move into this year with victory, compassion, gentleness, and tenacity. We could just hide our head under the pillow and say, “I can't even”, but that is not what this season is begging of women on mission. Your life, your God-given gifts, your community, and your relationship with God are worth more than a flippant start to this year. These all deserve and require reflection and intention. The good news: God is mighty in us. He generously gives wisdom to His daughters, and He has placed us where we're at - even in this year, on purpose, for the good of others and the glory of God. So in this episode, we're going to hold all of the tension - with all of the hope. Honestly, we're grateful that it's not commonplace to start a year pretending like it's always going to be our best year yet. Your year matters. Let's act like it, and do/ask these 4 things: Go back to the last thing God told you to do. What is not making you stronger? How can you adjust your pace, your plan, your perception of fruit and still be obedient to what God has called you to? Insert delight + abundance. Also mentioned in this episode: The Breaking Free from Body Shame Bible study is here! Get the five-video series (over 2 hours of content) and/or 50-page study guide to help you break free from the broken beliefs we all hold about our bodies that hold us back from our fullest life. Get the study, get a group together, and get ready to break free. Order the Bible study here. Have you joined our community Facebook group? We dive deeper into topics shared on the podcast, we share about our products and exclusive discounts, and really - we just connect women on mission with one another. This community is free and it's waiting for you! Join here.
Tomorrow we mark the dawn of a new year, and we love starting a new year with purpose and intention. As we gear up for the gift of another year ahead, we want to be intentional about finishing well and starting strong. This episode wraps up our three-episode series, Finish Well, Start Strong. We're completing the series with a conversation about personal goal setting as we embark on a new year. Jess and Kennesha ask and answer questions like: Does goal setting and vision casting even work? What are different forms of goal setting/vision casting that we can try? Why do we set goals? What happens when our goals don't come to fruition? Whether you're the world's biggest goals girls or if talk of goal setting make you queasy, this episode is for you. Dig in deeper with our Finish Well, Start Strong guide, found here! We made this brand new, FREE resource just for our podcast gals. We pray these resources (this series + the guide!) leave you feeling hopeful that you can finish 2021 well and start 2022 strong, because God is mighty in you and in the year ahead. Our other favorite goal-setting resource mentioned in this episode: PowerSheets by Cultivate What Matters!
Can you even believe we've got just two weeks left in 2021?! As we gear up for the gift of a new year, we want to be intentional about finishing well and starting strong. We're starting a new three-episode series for that exact purpose. For the next three weeks, we'll ask: How can we end this year well and start the next one with strength? What do we do if we're overwhelmed and exhausted from the last two years? How do we catch vision for what's ahead? In this episode specifically, Jess and Kennesha talk about counting the fruit of all that happened in 2021, and catching a vision for all that's to come in 2022. Come with us as we reflect with gratitude and look ahead with intention.
Our Friendship for Real Women series continues! Join Kennesha Buycks and her friend, Carla Haskins as they talk about what it looks like to be friends through many different seasons of life. In this episode, listen in on an honest conversation about what it means to be a friend and how real relationships take time. Join Kennesha and Carla as they answer authentic friendship questions like: What does friendship actually mean? How does friendship actually develop and become meaningful? How do you take a friendship from life-giving to life-changing? How do you press past a season where a friendship might hit a tough patch or you don't see eye to eye? How does the gospel empower us to keep going? How has friendship empowered you while you run on mission? We're so grateful to Carla for joining us and vulnerably sharing what friendship means to her. We're so excited about this series because we were made to be in community. Share about it with your friends, or join in the conversation with other mission-minded women in the Go + Tell Gals community Facebook group. Who knows - you might just spark a new friendship! You might have heard Kennesha talk about her shop, Restoration House. Be sure to visit and shop beautifully curated goods for your home and life. We love you and commission you to go and tell the good news, in Jesus' name.
Friends! And we actually mean it when we say friends. (Segue into today's episode...) Today we're so excited to launch a brand new podcast series - Friendship for Real Women. We know that we're created for community, so why do so many of us women struggle to experience abundance in our friendships? Over the course of the next four episodes, we're diving in deep. We may not have all the answers, but we want to ask the questions and process with you. We'll talk with each other, some experts, and some real-life friends in hopes of spurring us all on toward deeper, more fruitful friendships. In this episode, hosts Jess and Kennesha open this new series on friendship by speaking real words, telling real stories, and asking real questions, like: Is friendship hard for everyone else? Do all of us feel like we're the only ones who never quite figured it out? What do we actually need from friendships as women on mission? After the forming, there's storming. What do we do when something goes wrong in a friendship? We're so excited about this series, because we were made to be in community. Share about it with your friends, or join in the conversation with other mission-minded women in the Go + Tell Gals community Facebook group. Who knows - you might just spark a new friendship! We love you and commission you to go and tell the good news, in Jesus' name.
Hey Hey friends! Once again, our Smart Girl Summer series continues again this week with the amazing and inspiring, Kennesha Buycks. Kennesha is a mom, gifted artist, writer, and curator. Also, she is the creative force behind Restoration House, a dream realized while living on the island of Oahu, Hawaii back in 2010. A proud Alabama girl, Kennesha realized at a very young age she had a knack not only for the creative but for connecting the hearts and minds of the communities in which she had the privilege of sharing life through those very talents. She has such a unique perspective when it comes to following her why for her life and her business, and her passion to bring encouragement, honesty, and inspiration to each and every project she works on. In today's episode, we discuss how we can protect ourselves from imposter syndrome, shame, and comparison, encouragement for the hard seasons of life, and how we can lean into God to make sure we are following what He is calling us to do. Also, you don't want to miss hearing my take on Medium or Fine ballpoint pens! Listen to learn more: How to use boundaries in place for social media so that you don't get sucked in with comparison and shame. How we need to be careful of sharing too much of our lives on social media and we need to set the standards for the generations that follow us. When you use your gits the way that you are supposed to, it serves someone in a way that no one else can do but you. Favorite quotes: 1. I think my heart is to always try to get us back to what God always intended. If we think about Scripture and we look at Genesis, we think about the garden that was our first home. That was where we were meant to commune with Jesus, with God, with the Holy Spirit.2. It's helpful to remember my why, remember my purpose, it helps me focus on the fact that I don't have to feel like an imposter if I'm actually doing what I'm called to do. 3. I believe that when we're vulnerable it brings freedom. 4. I think that when we're in a space where we are freely flowing, because I think when we're not publicizing our work as an artist, when we're not putting our stuff out there, whether it's words or actual paintings or whatever your artistic form is, when we're not putting it out there, we have a different energy and we have a different motivation We're literally just creating to create. Great things we discussed: 1. Restoration House 2. Instagram 3. Tome 4. Space Jam 5. Freedom Look Good On You6. Profile Ballpoint Pens 7. Standing Strong Hope you loved this episode! Be sure to subscribe in iTunes and slap some stars on a review! :) xo, Alli

Friends! Since we recently relaunched the podcast with a brand new cohost (Kennesha!) and a brand new producer (Brenna!), we wanted to host an Ask Us Anything episode so that you could get to know our team a bit more. You - our listeners - submitted questions, and we loved getting to answer them! In this episode, we’re talking about mission in the “ordinary” days. We’re talking boundaries with technology. We’re jumping into how to wait + rest well. We’re touching on Sabbath, motherhood (be sure to listen to the GATG podcast episode with Cheryl Luke for more), and fighting discouragement. Plus, we’re each sharing some things we’re currently loving, linked below. Listen in. We pray this conversation leaves you equipped to keep running, right where you’re at. God is mighty in you, gal. Let’s go! Kennesha is loving: Malt Oak Milk Eminence facial oil Jess is loving: Kopari natural deodorant Brenna is loving: Sinful Colors Endless Blue nail polish The Bible Recap by Tara-Leigh Cobble Dermalogica Precleanse oil

You can’t turn on the news without seeing injustice. You can't scroll social media without hearing about injustice. How do women of mission respond to injustice? What do we do? How do we use what we’ve got for the good of others and the glory of God, all the while knowing that we are placed exactly where we’re supposed to be so that we can respond to injustice right now? In this conversation with Jess and Kennesha, we’re defining what justice is and what justice is not. We’re looking to the justifier - Jesus - to teach us how to love people best. And we’re talking action steps for going forward, because we know that what has limited you in the past does not have to limit you now. You can have God’s capacity to love the things He loves. Let it be in us, God. LIsten in on this conversation (this is only the beginning for us!), and know this: we’re on your team. We’re with you. We’re curious, we’re hopeful, we’re ready, we’re lamenting, and we’re prayerful. You have a friend, and we are with you. We quote three of our friends in this episode, and we want to make sure you follow these incredible women! Give our friend KJ Ramsey a follow. She's an incredible writer, and we're so grateful for her voice. Bernice King is a powerhouse, and she's giving us the words we need to hear. Her words in the injustice conversation have encouraged and equipped us. And we also talk about Osheta Moore's peacemaker vs. peacekeeper idea. She's another amazing friend of ours - give her a follow to glean from her wisdom. FRIENDS. We are back, and we are so excited about it! Last summer when the world got really loud, we got quiet. We paused to hear God and ask for clarity on our next moves. Then towards the end of 2020, we started dreaming up our podcast relaunch and we really focused in on our why: why does the podcast matter, and why should we keep going? And when we answered these questions, we were led right to our who: you. We've heard from so many of you that conversations from women on mission keep you running on yours. We just knew we had to relaunch, and we knew we had to give Kennesha a permanent spot on a mic, because she's both a captivating and mission-minded storyteller that we constantly want to hear from. Listen in on this re-launch episode where we officially introduce you to Kennesha Buycks, our new co-host! On today’s episode, Dewey sits with two bosses, who don’t play about their bag. Jada, who is an innovator and the creator of INDI Media and Kennesha, who is a fashion designer and owns Kennesha Nycole. The question of the hour is “Are you really on my level?” and this is a question that we should be asking ourselves more often when it comes to dating, platonic relationships, and even our families. B. Simone said she can’t be with a person who works a 9 to 5, so what better way to discuss “leveling up” than with two entrepreneurs, who have to take care of business, while running a business. They also discuss the struggles of entrepreneurship, supporting black businesses, and weeding out the real, from the fake. In conclusion, boss up or beat it! Author, speaker, storyteller, and Restoration House founder, Kennesha Buycks is Angie and Lisa's guest today! This conversation organically turns toward the vital importance of community for: support, perspective, accountability, authenticity, and selflessness. Listen for how Kennesha unpacks this statement: "I think it's hard to 'be well', when those around you aren't able to support you when you're not well."
On this episode Mandy has a conversation with Kennesha Buycks. Kennesha is the creator of Restoration House--a home and lifestyle brand + blog focusing on creating spaces that fulfill beyond the aesthetic and that speak to the restorative aspects of home. Kennesha is a Southern transplant to the Pacific Northwest, she has a passion for connecting others, gathering, and inspirational styling and design. On this episode Kennesha shares her own story of home and heart restoration. She speaks all about the initial inspiration behind Restoration House and how often our homes can reflect our hearts, our desires, and our history. She also shares some practical tips and tricks for home design. And then in the second half of the interview (at about 34 minutes) Mandy and Kennesha shift directions and talk all about Racial reconciliation, intentional living, and the difference between being not racist vs being anti-racist. This is an incredibly rich and full conversation. You won't want to miss it.
If you feel like you are wrestling with comparison, the pain of brokenness in your life, or needing inspiration for how to cultivate a kingdom minded home, you’ll find encouragement in this episode. Kennesha Buycks lays out all the pain points that have pointed her back to restoration in Jesus. This also birthed the social space and newly released book, Restoration House. Kennesha desires to pull your heart and your home toward God’s peace and toward a welcoming of the Holy Spirit. We get vulnerable pretty fast in this episode and cover topics like numbing pain with alcohol, the need of a father, the Enneagram, and God given desires that don’t look like they will ever come to fruition. Kennesha's book, Restoration House will get much praise from me this episode but don’t mistake this for an endorsement for frivolity or a focus on making our earthly spaces our idols. I’m a champion of the book Restoration House. Not a fan. The difference is, the zeal I have for this book comes from it’s goal: it’s drawn me closer to Jesus. If this is your first time listening, I absolutely believe you’ll enjoy my time with Kennesha today. And I encourage you to subscribe to the podcast. On this episode we dive into a conversation about Kennesha’s journey to find the meaning of home after a difficult season in life, including various tensions she has faced on this journey as a woman of color, military wife, and determined creative. I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I enjoyed sharing this time with Kennesha. Also! Don’t forget to check out her new book Restoration House!

My guest for Happy Hour #120 is Kennesha Buycks. Kennesha is a Southern transplant from Alabama to the Pacific Northwest. She and her family now live in the Seattle area. Kennesha has a heart and passion for connecting others, gathering, and seeing those around her flourish in ways they could never imagine. She often expresses this passion through various creative mediums, including inspirational styling and design. When Kennesha is not busy being a wife or a mama to her four kids, she spends her time writing, blogging, and encouraging others. Kennesha and I have been trying to connect for nearly a year, and the time has finally come! In today's episode, we chat and commiserate about being old enough for a 20 year high school reunion and our anxieties about actually attending. Kennesha shares about her life before Jesus, and her journey to following Him even at the potential cost of sacrificing a relationship. And you'll hear about her work with Restoration House and the balance and challenges of running a ministry and business. Finally, you'll love learning about Kennesha's children and how she and her husband are working hard to break generational cycles in their family. I hope you enjoy the show today. Make sure to tune in for the last two shows of the year - this week's Happy Half Hour and next week is episode #121 with Erin Loechner. {You can listen to the showHERE. And of course, I would love if you would share with your friends.
