News 5:17: The two hosts discuss two pieces of AI dubbing news, one involving voice actors in Japan, and the other one intending to use AI in anime production and needless to say, it’s not looking great! 10:12: Both Helen and Justin wonder about TOHO and how big a player they’ll become in the anime industry following their acquisition of Anime Limited from PLAION PICTURES. 14:03: So yes, unless an actual acquisition happens, it’s safe to say TheOASG Podcast will not talk about Warner Bros. Discovery unless a deal actually goes through or is stopped after Paramount’s hostile bid was, in the end, rejected; If you’ve been watching certain anime for free with ads on Crunchyroll, you won’t be doing so anymore in 2026, as they’re going to end their free ad-supported service. 18:53: Ammitsu’s Gazing at the Star Next Door's on hiatus until Spring as the creator preps the new arc; Rumi Ichinohe’s I See Your Face, Turned Away recently seemed to come back after a long hiatus, and it’s gonna end in the next chapter; and Boichi’s The Marshal King will go on hiatus for an undisclosed reason. 22:17: Also sort of weird — after a long time, Yona of the Dawn, which just saw its manga end, announced there will be a sequel to the anime. Sure took its time! 26:05: And in final news of the episode, the two hosts send their condolences to the friends and family of long-time voice actor voice actor Tomomichi Nishimura, who died on November 29 at 79. Licenses 28:08: US companies had to end the year with some licenses, and we got a decent amount, starting with Yen Press: Chika Tōjō's Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury—Vanadis Heart Ema Okadachi, otori, & Kou Kusaka's A Timid Lady was Turned into an Ugly Cat, but on the Verge of Fainting Is Picked Up by the Most Fearsome Military Duke Chitose Kaido's Thank You for Taking Care of Our Boy Banri Yūya Sakamoto's The Daughter of the Demon Lord is Too Kind! He also gets into the final Conan Cinema Saturdays movies, which will end January 3 with the first movie in the long-running franchise. 45:29: Helen then goes out of her way to talk about the Hatsune Miku anime film being the final bit of streaming news this week, only for Justin to remind her that she didn’t talk about Magic Kaito 1412 getting a dub on an obscure service (45:45). Cue much discussion that leads to somehow bringing up Conan, Yaiba, and Kaito Kid in a Cinematic Universe! Weird News 47:27: Helen goes over the strange situation involving physical copies of Higurashi: When They Cry Hou – Hou + having malware, which had MangaGamer having to recall it from stores. 49:50: Now it’s officially official: GAINAX is dead; the Naruto franchise is getting a Konoha land theme park in France; meanwhile a burger chain in Texas now has a Spy x Family burger for people to eat. 56:31: And final weird news for 2025, manga getting an anime years after it ends is unusual but over the past couple years it hasn’t reached the levels of what Psyren and then Iron Wok Jan! have inspired now! Both hosts discuss this unusual trend and also go back in time as to how they each got into these manga respectively! Before I went on my current podcast guesting hiatus, I sat down with Howie Chan. I met Howie in person earlier this year at Matt McGarry's Newsletter Marketing Summit. I thought he was fun, friendly, and thoughtful — just like he is in his podcast, Influence Anyone. This podcast is all about applied influence psychology. Each episode, Howie sit downs with experts and practitioners to uncover the hidden psychology that helps you influence yourself (mastering your mindset, habits, and decisions) and get buy-in from others (your team, clients, and audiences.) In this episode, we talk about my recent topic of study: trust. We break down what I'm learning about how trust works, what it looks like to build a trust-first creator business, and why some creators frankly don't care about that. We also talk about personal branding — Howie dug up a cringe video I made in 2012 — and what I'd do if I were starting over in 2026. When trying to understand nihilism holistically, we run into some problems. The first is that the concept is ambiguous. It can refer to a lack of belief or ideology, and it can also refer to this lack of ideology as an ideology. That's the difference between someone being disillusioned and rejecting a belief system and someone choosing to embrace nothingness as a belief system.

I don't have to take care of the needs of my alcoholic father." - Gabor MatéGabor Maté sat across from Lewis and said something most parenting experts won't admit: he hurt his own children. Not through malice or neglect, but through something more insidious—unhealed wounds he didn't even know he carried. He reveals how your stress as a partner affects your child before they're even born, how children absorb their parents' unresolved pain like emotional sponges, and why so many well-intentioned parents end up repeating the very patterns they swore they'd never inflict. But here's what makes this conversation essential: Maté doesn't just diagnose the problem. He breaks down the four irreducible needs every child must have—needs that indigenous societies naturally provided for millennia, but that our modern world systematically denies. This isn't about perfect parenting or having all the answers before your kid arrives. It's about understanding that the work of raising healthy children starts with facing your own shadows first. Maté explains why free play matters more for brain development than any educational program, why children need to rest from the burden of managing adult emotions, and what happens when we give toddlers screens instead of space to be bored, curious, and wildly creative. Whether you're expecting your first child, struggling with teenagers, or trying to make sense of your own upbringing, this conversation illuminates why so many of us feel broken—and what it actually takes to stop that cycle.Sign up for the Greatness newsletter: http://www.greatness.com/newsletter Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Welcome to episode #1002 of Thinking With Mitch Joel (formerly Six Pixels of Separation). What if code isn't just software, but the culture script of our age shaping what we notice, how we decide and who holds power? That's the provocation at the heart of Sam Arbesman's new book, The Magic Of Code - How Digital Language Created And Connects Our World - And Shapes Our Future, which he uses to reveal how programming moves from the screen into the fabric of everyday life. Sam is Scientist in Residence at Lux Capital and a visiting scholar at Harvard. He connects emerging technologies with human systems and helps founders, leaders and the rest of us make sense of complexity. He is also the author of two other influential books (The Half-Life of Facts and Overcomplicated). In this episode, we get a plain-English tour of why coding now functions as cultural literacy, why “vibe coding” and natural-language tools lower barriers without removing responsibility, and how to think clearly about the trade-offs when AI accelerates creation but also amplifies hidden assumptions. Sam breaks down how to treat algorithms less like oracles and more like instruments, demystifying engagement mechanics on social platforms, highlighting the shrinking shelf life of facts and offering ways to keep agency when tools get smarter and more opaque. These are practical frames for navigating complex systems (and their failure modes), along with a humane case for humility in product and policy and a reminder that the goal isn't more tech for its own sake, but better versions of ourselves using it. If you care about where code, culture and creativity meet… and how to keep your bearings as the ground shifts… this one delivers both the big picture and next steps for smarter, more intentional use of the tools we're all inheriting. Generational Perspectives on Preparedness with Dr. Chris Ellis and Jonathan RawlesDr. Chris Ellis sits down with Jonathan Rawles, mechanical engineer, author, and co-founder of Survival Realty, to explore how different generations approach preparedness and community resilience in an era of cultural collapse. Unlike his father, James Wesley Rawles, known for his expertise on nuclear war bunkers and self-sufficiency, Jonathan focuses on what he calls the "slow collapse" already underway in American society.Growing up witnessing the erosion of social trust—where unsupervised children playing outside now prompt police calls despite lower crime rates—Jonathan sees preparedness as fundamentally about rebuilding community connections. Through his work in real estate, he observes how rising property costs challenge traditional preparedness, while older homesteaders struggle to pass on decades of work to appreciative buyers.Yet Jonathan remains optimistic, describing communities where young people eagerly embrace early marriage and family life, and multigenerational families return to their roots. He emphasizes that while full self-sufficiency has become economically daunting, basic resilience remains accessible on any budget through food storage, backup heating, and cooking skills. The conversation reveals how true resilience requires a "mindset of vitality and optimism," coupled with taking responsibility for fixing what we can in our own communities. Jonathan's insights show how preparedness-minded individuals are creating resilient futures through churches, homeschool co-ops, and intentional networks rather than waiting for collapse.

The central theme of our discussion revolves around the profound impact of influences and idols on our lives. We delve into the complexities of how the cultural phenomena surrounding us shape our identities and beliefs, often blurring the lines between beneficial influences and detrimental idols. Through a candid examination of personal experiences and societal examples, we aim to illuminate the necessity of discerning what we allow to influence us, particularly in an era rife with pervasive media and social pressures. Our conversation invites listeners to reflect on their own lives, encouraging a critical assessment of the voices they heed and the values they uphold. Ultimately, we contend that the most worthy influence we can embrace is that which draws us closer to God and His teachings, guiding our paths with clarity and purpose.Takeaways: The episode emphasizes the critical distinction between influences and idols, highlighting how they shape our behavior and beliefs. We acknowledge that while external influences can impact our thoughts, it is essential to take responsibility for our own actions and choices. In this episode, we discuss Alasdair MacIntyre's landmark book After Virtue. MacIntyre, an ex-Marxist and committed anti-liberal, offers a defense of the Aristotelian tradition and its search for the truly common good against the dominant tendency of liberal societies to reduce morality to individual preferences. Modern society, MacIntyre believes, is one where we live fragmented lives, unable to narrate a coherent story of the relationship between morality and politics. Our invocations of morality ring increasingly hollow as we cannot even imagine what it would mean to convince others of what is good. We explore how the loss of morality coincides with all of us becoming moralists, why it seems we have to choose between Nietzsche and Aristotle, the costs of teaching morality like a choose-your-own-adventure buffet, and whether MacIntyre offers a compelling solution to our nihilistic times. The least we can say is that living without virtue is a real bummer!GET YOUR TICKETS FOR THE LIVE SHOW HERE:https://epiphanychi.com/events/whats-left-of-philosophy-live-show-karl-marxs-communist-manifesto/This is just a short teaser of the full episode. The discussion kicks off by revisiting a blog post by Sam Altman about reaching a 'Gentle Singularity' in AI development, where the progress towards artificial superintelligence seems inevitable. They explore the idea of AI surpassing human intelligence and the implications of machines learning to write their own code. Throughout their engaging conversation, they emphasize the need to integrate security into AI systems from the start, rather than as an afterthought, citing recent vulnerabilities like Echo Leak and Microsoft Copilot's Zero Click vulnerability. Derailing into stories from the past and pondering philosophical questions, they wrap up by urging for a balanced approach where speed and thoughtful planning coexist, and to prioritize human welfare in technological advancements. Through personal reflection, Morgan shares her own experiences of growing up with a father whose demanding career kept him often away, and her tendency towards workaholism. She shares how she intends to do things differently with her own child.   As the discussion unfolds, Dr. Maté dives into his belief that we are living in a toxic culture, where stress and societal pressures take a toll on our mental and physical health. He highlights the direct link between our minds and bodies, particularly evident in marginalized groups facing systemic racism. Dr. Maté and Morgan discuss how it is in this context that parents are expected to raise children, and how cultural parenting norms often contradict intuitive caregiving practices, driven by economic necessities rather than emotional well-being.   The episode wraps up with an eye-opening discussion on the potential of psychedelics in healing trauma, with Dr. Maté sharing the emerging research and the need for better access to these powerful tools in mental health care.   To learn more about Dr. Gabor Maté's work discussed in this episode, check out his books The Myth of Normal: Trauma, Illness & Healing In A Toxic Culture and Hold On to Your Kids: Why Parents Need To Matter More Than Peers.   Tune in to this insightful episode, and make sure to leave a rating and review to show your support for these incredibly powerful conversations being had week after week!   More from Dr. Gabor Maté: https://drgabormate.com/ https://www.instagram.com/gabormatemd?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==   Order Rewrite Your Rules: https://www.amazon.com/Rewrite-Your-Rules-Achieve-Freedom/dp/0593725050   Join the Newsletter for More Exclusive Content: https://worksmartprogram.ac-page.com/thejourneypodcast Make sure you are following Morgan's journey on TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@morgandebaun?_ Follow us on Instagram: https://instagram.com/thejourneybymdb Produced by MicMoguls.
