This episode is part 15 in a series going through the story of the Book of Mormon. This episode covers chapters 4-8 of the book of Mosiah. King Benjamin passes the crown of Zarahemla to his son Mosiah. The people all covenant with God and take on the name "the children of Christ."After King Benjamin passes away three years later, King Mosiah sends a band of men to the land of Nephi to find out what happened to others they had sent. Some stay near a hill in Silom outside the land of Nephi while Ammon and his three brothers enter. King Limhi of the Nephites arrests them and asks why they're there. When Limhi finds out they're from Zarahemla just as his grandfather was, they rejoice. The Lamanites had subjected the Nephites to burdensome taxes.Ammon and his brothers learn that some Nephite travelers had retrieved some golden plates from a more ancient civilization. We also find out that a "seer" is superior to an "interpreter" and a "prophet."Further research:Book of Mormon in videoJoseph Smith: The Prophet of the RestorationThe Book of Mormon online: Mosiah [chapters 4, 5, 6, 7, 8]*** Please contribute to the Hurricane relief fund for A.M. Lance Weaver has done an immense amount of research—enough for me to put him on the Show. An experienced geologist, Lance shows through modeling where he believes the settlements of Zarahemla, the Land of Mulek, and other sites existed. Known trade routes in Mexico, the American Southwest, and all the way to New York can show common travel by the Nephites. And just for fun, we look at the dating of the Pharaohs, and how dating and numbers cause problems for history. Website- www.cwicmedia.com Lance's website - gatheredin.one
This episode is part 13 in a series going through the story of the Book of Mormon. This episode covers three small books that follow the Book of Jacob: Enos, Jarom, and Omni. There is a lot about the brass plates being passed down from generation to generation and how the Nephites fare against the Lamanites. Some questions arise with the date ranges and the age of Jacob when he died. We look at a few anachronisms in the Book of Mormon from these short books and, of course, quotes from the New Testament before their time. Both the Jaredits and Nephites were destroyed by secret combinations. Both Mormon and Moroni speak of secret combinations in our day. Modern revelation speaks of a very specific secret combination that has shown to have a devastating impact on those of us living in the latter-days.
This episode is part 11 in a series going through the story of the Book of Mormon. In Jacob chapter 5, Jacob relays the "mystery" he just mentioned. It's something the Nephites as children of Israel should have read or heard. A prophet named Zenos wrote an allegory of Israel as an olive tree. This allegory clearly borrows from several passages of the Bible, but adds far more detail.Did you know that an ancient prophet in Israel wrote a story depicting how the church would have a lot of denominations bearing wild fruit? Did you know his story also described the origin and fate of the Book of Mormon's Lamanite and Nephite peoples?Amazing prophecy! This episode is part 10 in a series going through the story of the Book of Mormon. In Jacob chapter 3, Jacob continues his sermon against the people of Nephi for their pride, greed, and polygamy. I discuss a little about the polygamy issue I raised in the last part. Jacob also warns the Nephites that, if they don't repent, they could end up with darker skin than the Lamanites. Apparently, in the ancient Americas, sin affects skin. And darker skin is a curse from God.Jacob chapter 4 talks about how the brass plates record many clear prophecies about Jesus: the atonement, that He is the "only begotten Son" and that Abraham and Isaac are a picture of God the Father and Jesus. Because the Jews in captivity became stiffnecked against the clear prophecies that even the prophets before them received, God took away these clear prophecies and gave them words harder to understand. The LDS church argues that Joseph Smith restored the true church from apostasy. The Book of Mormon claims that the Bible we have today has lost "plainness."Further research:Book of Mormon in videoJoseph Smith: The Prophet of the RestorationThe Book of Mormon online: Jacob [chapters 3, 4]*** Please contribute to the Hurricane relief fund for A.M. 126 Episode – Unprecedented Times Captain Moroni's leadership marked a change in how the Nephites defended themselves from the Lamanites. But why does that matter to us? Scripture References Alma 43:18-21 Alma 49:8 Alma 48:7 Episode about Captain Moroni The Temple and Your Spiritual Foundation, Press. Russell M. Nelson. General Conference, Oct. 2021.
After Captain Moroni's preparations, the Nephites were prepared for the Lamanites and had all power over them. The war should have ended after one battle. However, the Nephites opened the front door and let them in by making two mistakes. Many, today, make the same mistakes and let the enemy in.
Come Follow MeCome Follow Me For Kids“Upon You My Fellow Servants”Doctrine and Covenants 12–17; Joseph Smith—History 1:66–75The Aaronic Priesthood Is Restored John the Baptist visits Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdry and restores the priesthood on earth. This week we are going to learn that the keys of the priesthood are a super important a part of the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Priesthood keys are given to act in God's name, by his power and authority. For example God has given us keys to baptize and bless the sacrament Because these keys were restored to God's church, we enjoy many blessings made through covenants that bring us closer to Jesus Christ.Joseph and Oliver worked hard translating the gold plates into english for many days. They came to the part of the Book of Mormon where Jesus Christ appeared to the Nephites. They read that Jesus gave Nephi the priesthood power and authority to baptize. Joseph and Oliver knew that the authority to baptize was not on the earth in their day.Joseph and Oliver wanted to know more about the authority to baptize, could anyone do it? How did it work? They walked to the trees near Joseph's house. They prayed and asked God about the authority to baptize in Christ's name. While they were praying, an angel descended from heaven in a cloud of light. The angel was John the Baptist, John the Baptist had the Aaronic Priesthood—God's authorityto baptize. Jesus was baptized to set anexample for us, and John was the person that baptized Jesus! Now as an angel, John the Baptist put his hands on Joseph and Oliver's heads and said, "Upon you my fellow servants, in the name of Messiah, I confer the Priesthood of Aaron, which holds the keys of the ministering of angels, and of the gospel of repentance, and of baptism by immersion for the remission of sins." The power and authority of the Aaronic Priesthood was restored to the earth! Why did an angel need to come and give it to them? Because no one on earth had that power. John the Baptist then told Joseph and Oliver they should baptize each other, so they wentto the River and and were baptized. They both felt the power of the Holy Ghost and after this, understanding the scriptures was way easier! And now, because the priesthood authority is back on the earth, we can be baptized like Jesus was, repent from bad choices, and receive the power of the Holy Ghost! This episode is part 6 in a series going through the story of the Book of Mormon.2 Nephi chapters 26-27 continue Nephi's prophecies. After the ascension, Jesus would show Himself to the Nephites. However, after four generations of a righteous remnant, the Nephites would forsake God. Gentiles will destroy them. The record of their history and prophecies will be sealed until the latter days.2 Nephi chapter 27 is like Isaiah chapter 29 but expanded for commentary about how God would give His book to an unlearned man and three witnesses will see it before it's released to the public. God will open some sealed content later in due time.We briefly look at these "three witnesses" to the Book of Mormon and how they all apostatized from the LDS Church over the same issue with Joseph Smith. This episode is part 5 in a series going through the story of the Book of Mormon.2 Nephi chapters 10-25 cover the final part of Jacob's sermon to the Nephites. After reading some chapters of Isaiah, he prophesies about the coming of Christ, that the Jews will be scattered, and that they will be regathered and believe in Jesus. The United States plays a pivotal role in the last days when the people will receive the words of God through Joseph Smith.Nephi continues to write on his brass plates and reflect on how Isaiah is clear about future things. He gives more detailed prophesies about Christ with some more modalistic verses. He then copies 13 full chapters from Isaiah. Then, Nephi goes to town with yet more seemingly amazing prophecies that sound like New Testament doctrine in the 500's B.C. We look at 2 Nephi 25:23 as a verse to bring up to LDS missionaries as a challenge to their "plan of salvation." This is the story of some Nephites dissenting and choosing Amlici to be their king. He leads them to war against Alma's army and joins up with the Lamanites to attack Zarahemla. In the strength of the Lord, the Nephites prevail! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
** #125 Alma 9: Face Off! ** :: The boring BUDDY-COP sermon without the BUDDY :: In this episode, Gigi and Patience dive into Christmas propaganda, and the eternal struggle of being a Lamanite in a Nephite world (or vice-versa because in a refreshing twist, Alma doesn't seem to see much of a difference in this chapter). Patience gets a job, then is fired for calling out someone's religious hypocrisy. And Gigi, suggests a career change as an "AI wrangler", like the kind potentially employed (but probably not) on the Church's suspiciously perfect "Light the World" campaign. The same campaign website has a silly "Kindness Randomizer," tool to suggest useless things to do over Xmas (that only make sense if you transposed the 1950s into 2024). Stuff like, making art for your dad, or sending a kind text. Gigi suggests productive ideas like "take in homeless people", or "clean your damn room." Patience suggests dad probably just wants 5 minutes alone. The duo tackle Oakes' recent devotional speech where he addressed accusations that LDS parents in Utah are excluding non-LDS peers from socialising with their spawn. Gigi suggests it's probably less intentional, and more a result of always being at church activities. But the real star of the show is Alma 9, where Alma and his "toy boy" Amulek deliver a fiery sermon full of threats, repetition, and stiff-necked insults. Gigi and Patience dissect the chapter, and Alma's obsession with being "cut off from the face of the earth", and his twist in favor towards the Lamanites. Turns out, God likes them better than the Nephites in this town, who are apparently just too blessed to function. But ultimately God seems to hate everyone he has made. Why doesn't he blame himself? The episode wraps with a wild tangent about Joseph Smith's probable adoration of itinerant preachers at tent revivals, his aversion to hard work, and his genius for turning religion into a lucrative business. Gigi and Patience fantasize about starting their own church, the "Church of the Big Fuck You," where tithes are replaced with "fuck you money." #Reasons to stay home this Sunday# - https://bookofboredom.com/reasons/ #Join the Blasphemy# - https://facebook.com/groups/BookOfBoredom #Patreon (Bonus Episodes)# - https://patreon.com/BookOfBoredom #Twitter# - https://twitter.com/BookOfBoredom #TikTok# - https://tiktok.com/@BookOfBoredomPodcast #Instagram# - https://instagram.com/BookOfBoredomPodcast #YouTube# - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMjDavWoT73Cev3IAie_XBA #Website# - https://bookofboredom.com/ A nice review on any podcast platform will help frustrate the Heavenly Father's boring plans for your future.

Mormon shares a sermon on discerning good from evil, encouraging us to judge righteously by the light of Christ. Additionally, he provides insight into the challenges faced by the Nephites and Lamanites during their wars, urging his son Moroni to remain faithful and strong despite witnessing widespread wickedness and despair. Mormon's letters to Moroni include counsel and expressions of his deep love for him, emphasizing the need to endure in faith, even amid difficult circumstances. Throughout these chapters, themes of love, obedience, and resilience during adversity are prominent.Moroni 7:12-13 | What's the difference between inviting and enticing? Send us a textFrom Come Follow Me: "After finishing his father's record of the Nephites and abridging the record of the Jaredites, Moroni thought that his record-keeping work was done (see Moroni 1:1). What more was there to say about two nations that were utterly destroyed? But Moroni had seen our times (see Mormon 8:35), and he was inspired to “write a few more things, that perhaps they may be of worth … in some future day” (Moroni 1:4). He knew that widespread apostasy was coming, bringing with it confusion about priesthood ordinances and about religion in general. This may be why he gave clarifying details about the sacrament, baptism, conferring the gift of the Holy Ghost, and the blessings of gathering with fellow believers to “keep [each other] in the right way, … relying alone upon the merits of Christ, who was the author and the finisher of [our] faith” (Moroni 6:4). Precious insights like these give us reason to be thankful that the Lord preserved Moroni's life so he could “write a few more things” (Moroni 1:4)."Support the Show:www.patreon.com/SaintsintheSouth(The thoughts, ideas, and beliefs we express on this channel do not officially represent The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Ether, the prophet, emphasizes the importance of faith, illustrating how it precedes miracles and is crucial for spiritual strength, referencing past prophets like Alma and Moroni. Despite Ether's warnings, the people embrace wickedness, leading to widespread wars. Coriantumr, a pivotal king, sees prophetic visions of his people's annihilation if they do not repent. As battles intensify, with leaders like Shared and Shiz rising against him, Coriantumr grapples with relentless warfare and personal injuries. Ultimately, Ether's prophecies come to pass as the Jaredite civilization collapses due to internal turmoil, leaving Coriantumr as the last survivor, fulfilling God's word that another group—the Nephites—would inhabit the land. These chapters highlight the consequences of pride and the power of faith.Ether 12:12 | How do you define a miracle? Why not just write them down for future generations who will appreciate them? Is there power in prophesying even if no one heeds your words? It seems to be a huge turning point for most societies. We see it in the Old Testament, with the Nephites, and here with the Jaredites. The brother of Jared's words echo clearly...especially to our day.If you'd like to view the video that goes with this podcast, click here
The Jaredites were destroyed. Remember what we read in Mosiah? - Hundreds of years after the Jaredites were destroyed, the Nephites discovered the ruins of their ancient civilization. Among these ruins was a mysterious record—plates of “pure gold” that were “filled with engravings,” and the Nephites “were desirous beyond measure” to read it. Today we have an abridgment of this record, and it's called the book of Ether. What we are reading in the scriptures this week! When the Nephites read it, “they were filled with sorrow” to learn of the tragic fall of the Jaredites. “Nevertheless it gave them much knowledge, in the which they did rejoice” You, too, may find sad moments in this book. But you can also rejoice in this gift of knowledge. As Moroni wrote, “it is wisdom in God that these things should be shown unto you … that evil may be done away, and that the time may come that Satan may have no power upon the hearts of the children of men” So let's remember: The Lord will guide us through our mortal journey. We are blessed when we follow God's prophet. We can trust Heavenly Father to comfort us when we are scared.Remembering what the Lord has done brings gratitude and peace.November 18–24: “That Evil May Be Done Away”Ether 6–11Book of Mormon Podcast for KidsWelcome to the Come Follow Me Kids Podcast! Send us a textFrom Come Follow Me: "Hundreds of years after the Jaredites were destroyed, the Nephites discovered the ruins of their ancient civilization. Among these ruins was a mysterious record—plates of “pure gold” that were “filled with engravings,” and the Nephites “were desirous beyond measure” to read it (Mosiah 8:9; 28:12). Today you have an abridgment of this record, and it's called the book of Ether. When the Nephites read it, “they were filled with sorrow” to learn of the tragic fall of the Jaredites. “Nevertheless it gave them much knowledge, in the which they did rejoice” (Mosiah 28:18). You, too, may find sorrowful moments in this book. But you can also rejoice in this gift of knowledge. As Moroni wrote, “it is wisdom in God that these things should be shown unto you … that evil may be done away, and that the time may come that Satan may have no power upon the hearts of the children of men” (Ether 8:23, 26)."Support the show:www.patreon.com/SaintsintheSouth(The thoughts, ideas, and beliefs we express on this channel do not officially represent The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Things may have seemed hopeless, but Moroni found hope in Jesus Christ and his testimony that “the eternal purposes of the Lord shall roll on” (Mormon 8:22). And Moroni knew that a key part of those eternal purposes would be the Book of Mormon—the record he was now diligently completing, the record that would one day bring many people “to the knowledge of Christ” (Mormon 8:16; 9:36). Moroni's faith in these promises made it possible for him to declare to the future readers of this book, “I speak unto you as if ye were present,” and “I know that ye shall have my words” (Mormon 8:35; 9:30). Now we do have his words, and the Lord's work is rolling forth, in part because Mormon and Moroni stayed true to their mission, even when they were alone."Support the Show:www.patreon.com/SaintsintheSouth(The thoughts, ideas, and beliefs we express on this channel do not officially represent The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. October 28–November 3: “I Would That I Could Persuade All … to Repent”Mormon 1–6 This week we learn that Mormon was chosen at age 10 because he was a sober child and quick to observe. even though Mormon's own people rejected his invitations to repent, he knew that through his writing of the Book of Mormon, that he had a larger audience to persuade. US! He knew his words would be read by you someday. And his message to you, today, is the same message that could have saved the Nephites in their day: “Believe the gospel of Jesus Christ. … Repent and prepare to stand before the judgment-seat of Christ” This week we will learn: I can follow Jesus Christ regardless of what other people do. Like Mormon, I can follow Jesus Christ. I will follow Jesus even if I do so alone. Welcome to the Come Follow Me Kids Podcast! This is a scripture study podcast for children. October 28-November 3 Every time I read the Book of Mormon and get to these chapters, I always hope that the Nephites will repent and that their civilization and people will be spared—and then it happens every time! They are destroyed. And then another entire civilization, the Jaredites, are destroyed for the same reasons. We can't change their outcomes, but how about ours? Is there a message in here for us, right now, in our day?

Our Mothers Knew It with Maria EckersleyA Creative Study of Come, Follow MeBook of Mormon [3 NEPHI 27-4 NEPHI] Insights“There Could Not Be a Happier People”October 21 - October 27, 2024WEEK 43: SUMMARY=================Lesson Summary:This is a week woven with warnings and promises. President Nelson just taught, “Now is the time for us to make our discipleship our highest priority.” This week's chapters will help you understand how to accomplish that powerful invitation. In His final sermon to the Nephites, the Savior emphasizes the need for unity within His church. He directs the name of the church as well as His clear, simple, redeeming doctrine. He'll help us understand the value of giving all we have to His work and the promise of hope to all who come unto Him. His message leaves the people hungering and thirsting after righteousness for 3 generations. Sadly, the unity begins to unravel when pride creeps back in among the people and false teachings lure hearts away from the truth. 3 Nephi 27:25-26 | How does it comfort you to know the Father is the recorder for your life? How would that knowledge impact your prayers? How does D&C 137:9 help you understand this verse?3 Nephi 28:1-10 | If this asking to tarry on the earth was such a good choice for the 3 Nephites, why don't we have more people choosing it in scriptural history? LDS Kids Primary Podcast Come Follow Me Podcast for Children. In this weeks episode we will see Jesus anoint his disciples and give them the ability to give others the Holy Ghost. He heals the sick Nephites and blesses their children one by one. They are encircled by fire and angels minister unto them. Principles taught: I can be filled with the Spirit as I take the sacrament. When we do something often, it can become routine or casual. We sometimes end up doing it without even thinking. We teach how you can keep this from happening with the weekly ordinance of the sacrament. The Savior loves each of Heavenly Father's children. I can think about Jesus when I take the sacrament.Link to enter Latter Day Saint Earth Stewards Contest: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1k2o-k0LgJ5SuqKsxs3jpuSSJ9sLEO7pV Welcome to the Come Follow Me Kids Podcast! An in-depth study of 3 Nephi 17-19, covering Christ's "extended" first day among the Nephites, healing the sick, blessing the children, and teaching about prayer, the sacrament, and gathering. This lesson focuses on "pre-enacting" the Gathering, perceiving need, caring for caregivers, circles of holiness, a God who "groans," sacred prayer, balancing the worth of souls and the sanctity of the sacraments, bringing people to Jesus, what Gethsemane could have been, and more.
In 3 Nephi 12:1—12 the resurrected Savior delivers an address to the Nephites similar to the Sermon on the Mount (Matt. 5; Luke 6) and presents the Beatitudes. Like the Matthew 5 account, the Book of Mormon record details how we might enter and build a covenantal relationship with God through the “interrelated and progressive” arrangement of the Beatitudes (Bible Dictionary). But what additional insight does the 3 Nephi account offer that isn't preserved in the New Testament? In this episode Dr. Brad Wilcox, professor of ancient scripture, discusses his book Blessed Are Ye: Using the Beatitudes to Understand Christ's Atonement and Grace, co-authored with his brother Roger Wilcox. He details varied interpretations of the Beatitudes, connects them to the first principles and ordinances of the gospel, and examines their relationship to latter-day temple covenants. As we study the Beatitudes, they become more than a code of conduct. Rather, they can be a holy invitation from Christ Himself to enter a covenant relationship with Him, receive His grace, and become like Him. Jesus' words reflect the Sermon on the Mount and the Beatitudes as found in the Gospel of Matthew 5 – 7.This week we will learn: Blessed are those who believe without seeing. Very few of God's children have seen the Savior and heard His voice, as the people at Bountiful did. We will teach the children that they are blessed for their faith!I can be a good example by following Jesus.Sometimes children might not realize how much their examples can bless others. We will point that out. The Savior wants me to hear and do what He teaches. We will learn all about the wise man and the foolish man. The wise man audio is from the gospel library. September 9-15 In the Book of Mormon, the Nephites always think of themselves as the good guys. In a movie, they'd ride in wearing the white hat or the gold star, signifying their goodness. Yet, the Book of Mormon demonstrates that often the Nephites are relentlessly blind to their own wickedness and it is the Lamanites who are the most faithful and true. Enter the scene into the wicked Nephite city of Zarahemla: Samuel the Lamanite. The point is clear.
