Show Notes Lemuel: I am Lemuel Gonzalez, repentant sinner, and along with Amity Armstrong, your heavenly host, I invite you to find a place in the pew for today's painless Sunday School lesson. Without Works. Amity: At two National Prayer Breakfast events President Donald Trump announced the creation of a new task force, “The Task Force to Eradicate Anti-Christian Bias,” to be headed by Attorney General Pam Bondi. “immediately halt all forms of anti-Christian targeting and discrimination within the federal government, including at the DOJ, which was absolutely terrible, the IRS, the FBI — terrible — and other agencies.” As the name suggests, its purpose is to: “fully prosecute anti-Christian violence and vandalism in our society and to move heaven and earth to defend the rights of Christians and religious believers nationwide.” A few hours later President Trump signed an executive order putting this plan into action. The use of government authority to support and endorse a specific religious group has caused controversy with both secular and religious groups. With unresolved military conflicts around the world and heightened domestic unrest, why is this an issue? A task force to address the largely imaginary discrimination against the world's largest religion? We are subjected to a daily erosion of rights: the elimination of DEI programs, the curtailing of women's reproductive rights, the curtailing of rights for trans people, and replaced them with a thing like, “Christian Acceptance Day,” and rhetoric about the place of Christian faith in American life. Trump argues that he wants his new task force to, “bring God back.” Lemuel: Bring God back from where? Where has God been? First I have to assert that this is not Christianity. It is not the job of the body of Christ to oppress the needy. The current evangelical church is embracing a counterfeit version of the Gospel, with the mercy, compassion and love of God excluded. Salvation, in Jesus teaching, is not easy to achieve. It requires sacrifice, and devotion. In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus gives a chilling picture of the Christian, “Day of Wrath.” This is the judgement day when God sits as righteous judge over the quick and the dead. In describing the day of judgment, Jesus draws a parallel to sorting sheep from goats. He describes God as a king, sorting sheep to right and goats to the left. Amity: “Then the king will say to those on his right, “Come, you who are blessed by my father ; take your inheritance., the kingdom is prepared for you since the creation if the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison, and you came to visit me.” Then the righteous will say, “Lord, when did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go and visit you? “ “The king will reply, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” Matthew 25; 31-45 Lemuel: This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Immediately following this is the righteous king of the story condemns those on his left to a judgement prepared for, “the devil and his angel.” When those people ask what they have done to deserve this, Jesus starts with, “I was hungry and you didn't feed me…” Jesus is not in the habit of condemning people to hell. In fact, he mentions damnation comparatively little. You will find more mentions of hell in any given church any given Sunday. Jesus brings it up to demonstrate what God values, and what earns salvation. He also makes it clear what demands damnation, and it is exactly what passes as Christianity in the conservative movement. Show compassion and mercy, humanity, and love. If you do not you are cursed to the eternal fires prepared for those beings who rejected God before the world began. Bring God back? God is everywhere. In the church, yes. In the homeless person. In the Trans Kid. In the unwed mother. In the convict. God is in your queer neighbor. You can't bring God back; he hasn't gone anywhere. He's starting you in the face. The voice on the other end, in all it's weighted seriousness, rushes a chill down your spine and lower half tenses with the strength of a vault door.Well I had an instance like that recently and let me tell you, it made me feel like I was 5 years old and caught red handed in the cookie jar. When the edibles hit you really have to assess the moves you make other wise you're just opening yourself up for a whole world of terror.That kind of terror is rampant online and through social media. Our phones are always listening to us. Paying attention to our joys and our fears. Preying on innocent minds in hopes to persuade them to follow the algorithm.Imagine having to go on a trip, taking a flight or driving in the car for an extended period of time. Your friendly little phone starts using social media, to prey on you and send your thoughts spiralling into dispare.I took a trip recently and TikTok decided it was great idea to flood my page with plane crashes. There's nothing like knowing you have to ride through the sky and being force fed planes falling from the sky. Birds flying into engines and pilots playing chicken. In some cases even being on the ground can't save you. It's terrifying to know that, in an instant an air plane can become a large metal human sausage skin.With an algorithm like that, who needs to watch horror movies?This might be one of the reasons X and Meta have both decided to do away with algorithms that fact check. They have both implemented a "Notes" feature on their platforms in order to have more accurate fact checking. It's a way for humans to keep other humans in check. Giving everyone the opportunity to be a super sleuth. An anonymous whistleblower has come forward with troubling details about Banxso, an online investment platform accused of deceptive practices and linked to deepfake ads featuring well-known personalities like Johann Rupert and Hashim Amla. The whistleblower, a senior figure in the financial sector, described a suspicious encounter with Afrimarket, a platform with striking similarities to Banxso, including an alleged shared chief operating officer. After responding to a Facebook ad, he was pressured to invest without transparency around risk profiling or the expertise of his assigned "advisor." His findings raise concerns that Afrimarket could be a rebranded clone of Banxso, targeting South Africans with aggressive sales tactics to exploit unsuspecting investors. Why is it that kids who are neurodivergent are so often marketed to by the transgender activists? From Blue's Clues “Pride Parade” to Target's brightly colored gay pride displays, kids are the recipients of this “rainbow capitalism.” Pamela Garfield-Jaeger, a licensed clinical therapist, discusses the transgender activists crusade, how they target neurodivergent kids, and what happened to the therapeutic profession between 2017 and today.   Pamela received her Master's in Social Work in 1999 at New York University. She has been licensed in California since 2005. Pamela has experience working in schools in New York City, San Francisco and in Silicon Valley California. She has been a clinical supervisor for over ten years overseeing therapists working in school-based programs and in mental health settings. She has worked in residential and outpatient programs for adults and teens who are severely mentally ill. After losing her job at Sutter Health in 2021 due to Vaccine mandates, Pamela has been building a curriculum to guide parents through the mental health system. Her goal is to provide parents with the information and language so they can be the best advocates for their child's mental health. "So They go into a home and they see a home that is appropriately furnished. The kids have food. They appear to be being homeschooled in a responsible way." The key, according to her, is determining if there is a "true risk of harm" to the children.    This conundrum becomes even more profound in homes that are upscale and wield significant societal influence. As Brueski poignantly questions, "Are people getting better at hiding this stuff?" The conversation delves into how our societal perceptions can often be misguided, equating affluence or apparent happiness with well-being.    Hellis raises an alarming point about how the digital age might be aiding these deceptive tendencies. With the vast amount of information available online, she believes people have become more adept at understanding what the state looks for and, consequently, how to hide potential red flags. As Brueski puts it, "It's also a reflection just of how we handle mental health in our country to begin with."
