Episode 174 Chapter 33, Digital Synthesizers and Samplers. Works Recommended from my book, Electronic and Experimental Music Welcome to the Archive of Electronic Music. This is Thom Holmes. This podcast is produced as a companion to my book, Electronic and Experimental Music, published by Routledge. Each of these episodes corresponds to a chapter in the text and an associated list of recommended works, also called Listen in the text. They provide listening examples of vintage electronic works featured in the text. The works themselves can be enjoyed without the book and I hope that they stand as a chronological survey of important works in the history of electronic music. Be sure to tune-in to other episodes of the podcast where we explore a wide range of electronic music in many styles and genres, all drawn from my archive of vintage recordings. There is a complete playlist for this episode on the website for the podcast. The mental benefit of exercise is equal if not greater to taking antidepressents. The mental health part of physical health is enormously beneficial. Milestones and Medals along the way There are life lessons that can be pulled into your every day life as you continue to train and race regularly, such as perserverence, determination, and resilience. What has been your greatest Movement Challenges? You sign up for that first race and all you're thinking about is getting to the finish line, but then you cross the finish line and you realize you're not done because there's more you want to do. What has been one of your most memorable Challenges? It's just about how can you make a tiny improvement that, in the end, you will feel good about. It doesn't have to be a complete overhaul. You are just aiming to be a little bit better than you were before. What inspiration do you have for those new to the 80 x 80 Movement? Always have a race on the calendar - something to motivate you intrinsically to get to the next level, whatever that might be for you. What’s your next Challenge for Life? "It's important to start where you're at, to recognize where you're at. And for a lot of people that can be walking for five minutes. It's important not to get caught up in comparing ourselves to others."- Lance Carter *5 Minute Success - Listener Giveaway* Go to TheNewTriathlete.com/Resources to receive your FREE 8-week training schedule for a Sprint Distance triathlon and a free 12-week training schedule for the new triathlete! Today Elliott describes his journeys between different genres of music, from the time he spent studying with saxophone expert Mike Guerra (who taught John Coltrane), to his work in experimental rock, jazz and poetry, to his years on tour with Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes. You may think I brought on Lance to boost my ego. Admittedly, I would gladly sit and listen to him describe the internal reaction to him seeing me "in action"! His description of me warms my soul and makes me smile. Lance and I met at The Best Year Ever Conference in December of 2016 and I met him when he came up to me and raved about me. Now I like complements, just as you do! From there Lance did a testimonial for me (ya you can hopefully see him on my DEMO video) and even took the mic and in front of 400 people told about his "a-ha" moment. Learn what that was for him. Lance is an incredible human. Not only becuase he keeps himself IRONMAN ready but because of who he is and has become. As an author, coach, business owner and athlete Lance has faced many challenges. The challenge of depression is very real, especially those of us that dream big. Find out more about Lance and his journey to discovering who he really is, what he is training for next and why he has coached so many. To find out more about Lance find him on Facebook or check out his website! ENJOY! If something you have heard has helped you go ahead and take the plunge and RATE this podcast! All we ask for are honest reviews. :) Much love. XO Andrea
