Esta semana, en una nueva sesión de Rebelión Sónica, nos enfocamos en “Three”, el nuevo álbum del importante músico británico de la electrónica Four Tet, alias de Kieren Hebden. Además, viajamos al pasado en su trayectoria, para escucharlo con su celebrada colaboración con el baterista jazzero, Steve Reid. “Three” fue lanzado el 15 de marzo por el sello del propio Hebden, Text Records y es su duodécimo disco de estudio, sucesor de “Sixteen Oceans” y “Parallel”, ambos de 2020. En el intertanto, Hebden colaboró con otros artistas, incluidos Madlib, Skrillex y Fred Again, y libró una batalla legal con el sello Domino en relación con las regalías de la transmisión de su música entre 2021 y 2022. Al final del programa, viajamos al año 2008, para escuchar música del álbum “NYC”, que unió a Hebden con el relevante baterista del jazz Steve Reid (Miles Davis, Ornette Coleman, Fela Kuti, Sun Ra), relación prolífica que cuenta con cuatro discos en estudio y uno en vivo. Many former Purdue men's basketball coach Gene Keady's top players paid tribute to their former coach in this Zoom cast on April 24, 2023. Keady was selected to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame during the Final Four weekend a few weeks back, becoming just the fourth individual associated with Boilermaker basketball to be named to the Naismith. Keady joins coach Piggy Lambert and two of Lambert's best players, John Wooden and Charles “Stretch” Murphy.  On the Zoom cast was a virtual who's who of the Keady Era: Brian Cardinal (1997-2000); Greg Eifert (1981-84), Troy Lewis (1985-88), Cuonzo Martin (1992-95),  Brandon McKnight (2002-05). Steve Reid (1983-85), Glenn Robinson (1992-94), Steve Scheffler (1987-90),  Everette Stephens (1985-88) and former assistant coach Bruce Weber (1981-98). Keady tuned in for much of the proceedings and enjoyed the stories and recollections of many who made his quarter-century run at Purdue remarkable.

Kieran Hebden is one of the most uniquely talented UK electronic artists working today. He's produced a wonderful stack of LPS and a remixed some of the best, from Aphex to Radiohead to Jamie Lidell. He's walked an unconventional path but the seemingly strange choices of gear and methods he's landed on are all very much considered. He is literally building a physical line of records that will stand as his legacy and that's at the forefront of his thinking. There's this drive to be finishing music and finding ways to keep inspired and making the whole thing feel free and live. He finds an amazing balance in his work between meticulousness and chaos. The collaborations with Jazz legend Steve Reid in particular showed how live electronics could be just that. LIVE! Messy, ever changing and satisfyingly intense. Unsurprisingly, he works best outside the traditional music making spaces, favouring his home and small, manageable setups over the monster rooms. Minimal amount of gear but huge amounts of vinyl!!!! We toured the states in 2005. I was opening for Kieran and it was a hell of a run. I've very fond memories of that time. He's a super smart and warm man that is the only person I know that plays cool edit like a violin. Des clubs de New York où se fabriquait le free jazz dans les années 60 à sa découverte du poète haïtien Frank Etienne, Jacques Coursil égraine ses carnets de voyage. Son itinéraire nous fait croiser les routes de Jaki Byard, Bill Dixon ou Leonard Bernstein. Enregistrant dès 1966 en side man pour le label ESP aux côtés de Sunny Murray ou Frank Wright, il publiera ensuite deux albums dans la légendaire série « byg actuel » avec Arthur Jones, Burton Greene ou Anthony Braxton avant qu’une carrière universitaire ne l’éloigne des studios pendant près de 25 ans. IL fait son grand retour en 2005 sollicité par John Zorn et a enregistré depuis deux albums à la dimension poétique et historique ainsi qu’un duo avec Alan Silva. De passage à Paris où il peaufine un projet autour de l’oeuvre de Frank Etienne, Jacques Coursil, conteur de génie, s’est arrêté dans nos studios et avec lui nous avons construit ce documentaire qui sonne comme un véritable film audio. En seconde heure, nous allons à la découverte du superbe trio polonais RGG qui a récemment croisé le fer avec Trevor Watts et Evan Parker. On s’intéresse aussi au dernier album de James Brandon Lewis, saxophoniste très en vue actuellement. As you would expect, it is hard to put into words what the man aims for, and achieves, across the course of two hours, but suffice it to say it will surely be the most adventurous mix you hear for a while. From niche Indian music to classic house, dirty STL cuts to synthetic tech and Latin tinged funk, he stitches together a wild ride full of smooth left turns and dazzling curveballs that will make you want to loosen every limb in your body and shake till you drop.
