Sgt. Steve Richardson led the TDI Fraud Unit's investigation into William Neil “Doc” Gallagher, a radio host in the Dallas area. Gallagher, known as the “Money Doctor,” targeted seniors to surrender their annuities and give him the money to “invest.” In 2020, Gallagher was convicted of securities fraud, theft, and money laundering, all first-degree felonies. He got three life terms and was ordered to repay more than $10.3 million in restitution. How can I avoid becoming a victim of insurance fraud? Richardson says to do your due diligence when working with a financial adviser or insurance agent. Do a thorough online search for anyone you're doing business with. Online searches would have shown that Gallagher was investigated by the Texas State Securities Board and lost his security license. How can we protect our senior family and friends from senior fraud? Many of Gallagher's victims were seniors who lost their entire savings and investments. Richardson suggests monitoring your senior relative's finances to know where they're investing or spending their money. How can I check the license status of an insurance agent? You can check license status and complaint history by calling our Help Line at 800-252-3439. How to avoid scams aimed at older adults Beware of seller impersonation fraud

They were cannibals and headhunters. In their culture, treachery was idealized, they lived in fear, and had never heard the name of Jesus. Not until two missionaries came with a small baby, and made their home among them.

As mobilizers, we often find ourselves in conversations with those who are navigating the missionary call. Many times it becomes necessary to help someone overcome a certain myth that they have heard and/or believe about missions. These myths could be that missions is harmful, or that missionaries are super spiritual. Join host Dave Jacob as he chats with Pioneers USA President Steve Richardson about his recent book, Is the Commission Still Great: 8 Myths About Missions and What they Mean for the Church. Dave and Steve discussed the following questions: Why this book? How did it come about? You identify 8 myths in the book. Can you highlight one or two of them for us? You say in the book that each of the myths has a kernel of truth. Can you give an example of how a good idea can be imbalanced or incomplete? How can mobilizers help others overcome some of these myths? From your perspective as the leader of a sending agency, how is the missions landscape changing? How does that impact the Western church's involvement? We hear a lot of bad news these days. Can you share some good news from the missions world?

The primary mission of the Church is to glorify God by blessing all peoples of the world through the gospel of Jesus Christ. Given the scale and complexity of global missions, it's no wonder that misconceptions abound, even among invested, godly people. Questions and skepticism about missions arise from both outside and inside the church — Is missions an outdated idea? Do missionaries do more harm than good? Are we succeeding or failing? Is it time for global believers to do the job in their own countries with minimal Western involvement? — We don't need to fear questions like these. Author and missionary Steve Richardson stopped by to remind us that the Commission is still great as he walks us through 8 Myths about Missions and What They Mean for the Church... https://www.pioneers.org/myths See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Biblical Christians had their heads spinning in recent weeks if they even glanced at the news. In Canada, a democratic country seemed to collapse, with civil liberties disappearing. In response to the Truckers Convoy – a peaceful protest aimed at ending entrenched mandates in Canada – the government didn't relent. It doubled down. The Emergency Powers Act was invoked and martial law ruled the day. Police violently suppressed the protests. Dissenting citizens had their bank accounts frozen, civil liberties suspended, and ability to travel curtailed. How should the Church respond? Pastor Steve Richardson, a Canadian pastor, was at the peaceful protests, and ultimately on the business end of police batons. He joins the Christian Emergency Podcast to discuss what he observed and how Christians should respond to similar pressures. You will also learn about a statement written and published by Canadian pastors in response to the government's authoritarian measures. Finally, we look to the situation facing the Church in Ukraine. As the Russian military carries out a massive invasion, Ukrainians of all stripes are frightened and searching for hope. The Church must stand and point to the hope in Christ. But Christian pastors and believers face daunting pressures. We examine how lessons learned by Christians in Canada and elsewhere may help believers in Ukraine. Learn how you can pray for and bless your brothers and sisters in Christ in Ukraine. May we never forget, that Christ is still King regardless of the crises and chaos around us.
