Mentor Sessions Ep. 077: US Iran Failure, Bitcoin Bear Market Over & Yield Curve Control | Doomberg & James LavishThe Iran ceasefire just reshuffled global energy, dollar dominance, and Bitcoin's role as sound money — James Doomberg breaks down what it actually means for your portfolio in 2026.In this episode, Nathan sits down with James Doomberg — one of the sharpest macro and energy analysts in the space — to unpack the cascade of events reshaping markets right now. You'll learn why the Iran ceasefire is a bigger geopolitical pivot than most investors realize, how the SpaceX IPO may function as a financial suppression tool for retail capital, and why Doomberg believes energy markets are sending misleading signals driven by Chinese demand dynamics and a global overbuild. You'll also see exactly why Bitcoin and gold are rising in tandem — and why Doomberg argues monetary debasement makes that trend structural, not cyclical. Finally, you'll understand what yield curve control would mean for bond holders and why the K-shaped economy is deepening in ways that make sound money more critical than ever.• Sovereign Sessions — AI, Privacy, and Bitcoin education: http://youtube.com/@SovereignSessions?sub_confirmation=1⏱️ Timestamps:00:00 Bitcoin Bear Market is Over00:10 The Iran War Outcome00:26 China Flexes Oil Power00:35 K-Shaped Economy & Credit Card Defaults00:43 Yield Curve Control & Money Printing00:52 SpaceX as Financial Suppression01:09 Intro & Context06:25 US Achieved None of Its Objectives in Iran07:34 Gold & Bitcoin Bullish After Iran08:17 Bear Market in Bitcoin is Over09:40 A Profound & Historic Outcome10:20 US Dollar Dominance is Cracking11:10 Freezing Russian Assets Was a Catastrophic Mistake14:28 Bitcoin Bear Market is Over (Revisited)15:38 All Roads Lead to Yield Curve Control17:45 Multipolar World & Weaker Dollar19:29 Massive Money Printing is Coming24:26 Gold & Bitcoin Will Rip Higher26:32 SpaceX Ponzi as Financial Suppression32:07 The Lottery Effect & Tax Receipts37:20 K-Shaped Economy is Getting Worse46:27 Cantillon Effect Explained50:14 Oil is Going Way Lower54:39 What to Watch Next (Fed, Japan, Ukraine)
Jun 5, 2026 – Doomberg, head writer of the popular Substack, joins Financial Sense's Cris Sheridan to discuss oil market resilience, the real story behind U.S. emergency reserves, and why war escalation remains the only path to $150 oil...
“ Iran will have permanent control over the Strait of Hormuz. As though that necessarily, in and of itself, is bullish for oil prices. I would argue that, in fact, it isn't. “Doomberg, Substack Author, Energy AnalystThis was another great discussion with Doomberg, and we had over 100k listens and views, plus even more impact from social media during his last visit. This discussion included several key quotes, and I have about 10 of them listed below the video.Make no mistake, the global energy, oil, and gas markets have changed permanently.“Energy security starts at home. Energy dominance is displayed through your exports. “Stu Turley, Energy News Beat Podcast HostWe recommend https://newsletter.doomberg.com/1. Geopolitical Control of the Strait of HormuzThe hosts explore Iran's potential permanent control over the Strait of Hormuz and what this means for global energy markets. The key insight is that while many assume this would drive oil prices higher, the real issue is about sanctions and U.S. dollar hegemony—Iran would need sanctions lifted to collect tolls, which threatens the dollar's position in the global financial system. Long-term, alternative pipelines and infrastructure will mitigate any supply disruptions.2. North American Energy DominanceA major focus is on how the Western Hemisphere (particularly the U.S. and Canada) is becoming an energy powerhouse through:Natural gas production and LNG exports (growing from near-zero to ~30 BCF/day by decade's end)Oil development in Argentina (Vaca Marta), Guyana, Venezuela, and BrazilPipeline infrastructure like Mountain Valley PipelineThe concept of “energy security starts at home” and exporting energy as a display of dominance3. Qatar's LNG Disruptions and Helium CrisisWhile Qatar supplies 20% of global LNG, the real story is helium—Qatar controls about a third of the global helium market. Helium is critical for semiconductors and MRIs, and there's no easy replacement. Recent attacks have disrupted Qatar's production.4. The AI Bubble and Market DynamicsThe hosts discuss:The SpaceX IPO as a potential “top of the Ponzi cycle” with a $1.75 trillion valuationHow AI is simultaneously a transformative technology AND a massive bubble (like railroads and the internet before it)The importance of AI validation and verification—AI without accountability wastes moneyHow companies must be built with AI at their core to survive; large legacy companies may struggle to adapt5. AI Implementation and Business TransformationPractical discussion on:How AI can eliminate inefficiencies (e.g., reducing invoice processing from 2 months to 2 minutes)The need for human oversight and “AI-aware” workers vs. “AI-ignorant” onesAuthentic human content creation remaining valuable in an AI-saturated worldHow small, lean businesses with owner mentality adapt faster than bloated corporations6. Future Economic Blocs and Global RealignmentThe hosts predict a shift toward new trading blocks: the U.S., India, Russia, Saudi Arabia, UAE, China, and Japan forming alternative economic structures, with the EU and UK potentially falling behind.Global Oil and Gas Markets Update - Doomberg's insights and opinionsCheck out the Energy News Beat SubStack https://theenergynewsbeat.substack.com/A shout-out to Steve Reese and the Reese Energy Consulting group for sponsoring the Podcast https://reeseenergyconsulting.com/.Data2 if you have any business systems, can you trust A? Stijn Schmitz welcomes Doomberg to the show. Doomberg is Head Writer For The Doomberg Team and Creator of the Doomberg Substack. The podcast explores the current geopolitical and energy landscape, focusing on the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and potential global power dynamics. Discussing the current energy market disruptions, Doomberg suggests that while the Strait of Hormuz closure is significant, the market has been surprisingly stable. He estimates the potential oil supply disruption at around 8 million barrels per day, significantly lower than some analysts’ predictions. The sophisticated oil markets have absorbed these challenges, with China potentially playing a crucial role by releasing strategic reserves and managing supply. The conversation delves into a potential grand geopolitical bargain that might be discussed in the upcoming meeting between Trump and Xi in Beijing. Doomberg speculates about a potential realignment of global interests, including a settlement of the Ukraine conflict on terms favorable to Russia, ceding Taiwan to China’s sphere of influence, and dividing Middle Eastern and Arctic territories among major powers. Regarding the US dollar and global economic shifts, Doomberg argues that we’re moving towards a multipolar or potentially Chinese-dominated unipolar world. He sees the sanctions against Russia after Crimea as the beginning of a new world order, with China and Russia challenging US global dominance. The discussion highlights the United States’ significant natural gas advantage, with the country producing 110 billion cubic feet per day and poised to become a major LNG exporter. Doomberg emphasizes the potential for North American energy dominance, particularly through clean and abundant natural gas. Looking forward, Doomberg suggests a potential multipolar world with the US focusing on its Western Hemisphere, China gaining prominence, and Russia finding its place. He remains cautiously optimistic about a potential diplomatic resolution to current global tensions, while acknowledging the complexity of geopolitical negotiations. Mentor Sessions Ep. 069: Why Oil Refuses To Explode Despite The Iran War, Why Michael Saylor's MicroStrategy Is Bitcoin's Biggest Hidden Risk, and How The K-Shaped Economy Is Splitting America In Two | Doomberg & James LavishIran's conflict is threatening the Strait of Hormuz — and energy markets are not pricing it in. Doomberg and James Lavish join BTC Sessions to break down what an oil shock at $150+ means for the global macro picture, Bitcoin's role as sound money in an energy war, and whether Michael Saylor's Strategy dominance is quietly keeping new investors out of Bitcoin. In this conversation you'll learn why Doomberg believes the energy market is sending signals most macro analysts are ignoring, how James Lavish connects an oil supply shock to accelerated monetary debasement and Bitcoin demand, what specific risks Strategy's outsized Bitcoin concentration creates for retail adoption, and why both guests see the current geopolitical moment as one of the most important macro setups for Bitcoin in 2026. In this episode, I talk to Doomberg following our last chat in early March, and he expands on his thoughts that the Iran War was a catastrophic error with significant strategic consequences for the World. As usual, Doomberg doesn't hold back. China has entered the chat just as the UAE has exited OPEC, putting the instability among the Gulf countries and the broader Middle East into perspective.Despite the demands of the AI hyperscalers, the world is fundamentally long on hydrocarbons, and what the events of the last 10 weeks have demonstrated is that the constraint on energy supply is political, not geological.Brought to you by Progressive Equity & Finance Talking.

We are going to have a wild opening to the markets tomorrow. The Strait of Hormuz is effectively closed, and there is no reason that ExxonMobil, Chevron, and other companies should be trading the way they are. That being said, Secretary Chris Wright was on point again on CNN, and we covered his statements about how $10 trillion spent on Green Energy only increased energy use by 3%. 1. Renewable Energy Challenges & LimitationsThe podcast critically examines the effectiveness of renewable energy investments. Despite over $10 trillion invested globally in green energy over 20 years, renewables account for only 3% of global energy supply. Key issues include low capacity factors, transmission losses, storage requirements, and the need for grid overbuild—all of which increase true costs beyond what's typically reported.2. Geopolitical Tensions & Energy MarketsThe discussion covers disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz caused by Iran's actions, leading to volatility in global oil tanker traffic and prices. Additionally, there's analysis of China's strategic reduction of U.S. Treasury holdings, signaling a shift away from the U.S. dollar.3. Market Manipulation & Price MisrepresentationThe podcast includes detailed criticism from the Doomberg newsletter about divergence between paper/futures oil prices and actual physical oil costs. It characterizes current oil pricing as potentially manipulated and describes it as a "government-constructed lie" designed to maintain false market stability.4. Texas Energy Demand & Data Center GrowthERCOT's projections show peak electricity demand in Texas could reach 367 GW by 2032—more than 4 times current records—driven largely by data center expansion. The transcript highlights challenges including interconnection backlogs and transmission planning needs.5. Regulatory & Financial IssuesCoverage includes Duke Energy's bid to recover costs from winter weather events and analysis of major oil/gas companies' (Chevron, Exxon) earnings versus stock performance discrepancies.6. California Energy Policy CriticismStu critiques Governor Newsom's energy policies, particularly his response to rising oil prices, suggesting his policies have contributed to a looming energy crisis with refinery closures and limited fuel access.1.The World Has Spent $10 Trillion on Green Energy — and Only Reached 3% of Global Energy2.US Markets Look Like a Bull Run, but the Hormuz Dependent Countries are Looking Down3.China Sending a Clear Signal and Dumps U.S. Treasuries4.The US' Renewed Russian Oil Sanctions Waiver Will Help Their Shared Indian Partner5.Backwards Looking – Doomberg6.Buffett and China Are Making the Same Bet – The Merchant's News7.Over 367GW Grid Requirements in Texas ERCOT by 2032: Navigating the AI Data Center Boom for Investors and Consumers8.Duke Energy Cost Recovery Bid and 19,000 MW Plan Test Valuation9.Oil and Gaslighting Gavin Newsom Rides Again●You can also find all of the stories on https://energynewsbeat.com/Check out the Energy News Beat SubStack https://theenergynewsbeat.substack.com/A shout-out to Steve Reese and the Reese Energy Consulting group for sponsoring the Podcast https://reeseenergyconsulting.com/.. https://www.data2.ai/resources/the-decision-lag-reportAnd we have WellDatabase rolling in as a new sponsor.

The "green chicken" known as Doomberg joins the program to discuss the "fog of war" in the Middle East and the resulting volatility across the energy and precious metals sectors. He explains that the recent counter-intuitive dive in gold prices was likely driven by Middle East oil producers selling liquid collateral to meet massive margin calls on their hedged production. The discussion highlights a unique "fresh iPad experiment" used to bypass Western algorithmic bias, revealing how Iran is strategically targeting energy infrastructure with specific American shareholder interests. Doomberg and Trevor also discuss the emergence of "Fortress North America," where the U.S. and Canada remain energy-independent while island nations like Australia and Japan face "molecular shortages" and catastrophic economic risks. Finally, Doomberg warns of the U.S. military's vulnerability in rare earths while predicting that current shortages will eventually trigger a massive over-investment, leading to a long-term glut and a potential collapse in commodity prices.______Terrahutton empowers junior mining companies to secure investment with immersive, interactive, and visually striking storytelling. Iran tensions are rising, oil is moving, and markets may still be underpricing the risk. Doomberg breaks down the growing energy crisis, inflation fallout, and why the real story is bigger than just oil.#Oil #EnergyCrisis #geopolitics ------------
Europe once treated energy as the foundation of civilization. After the oil shocks of the 1970s, it built nuclear at scale, opened the North Sea, and secured long term pipeline supply. That system produced resilience, surplus, and industrial strength. Today, the arithmetic has flipped. Europe consumes roughly 38 exajoules of hydrocarbons and produces about 6. This episode examines how that reversal happened, not as an accident, but as the result of political choices that prioritized higher order goals while eroding the physical base that supports them. This conversation connects that shift to a broader framework. Maslow's hierarchy applied to energy systems. When policy moves up the pyramid while the base weakens, fragility follows. We walk through the numbers behind Europe's dependence, compare the current crisis to the 1970s, and contrast Europe's trajectory with countries that optimized for resilience instead of efficiency. The result is a clear picture of what happens when an advanced economy loses sight of the molecules that keep it running.Listen to Decouple on:• Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/6PNr3ml8nEQotWWavE9kQz• Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/decouple/id1516526694?uo=4• Overcast: https://overcast.fm/itunes1516526694/decouple• Pocket Casts: https://pca.st/ehbfrn44• RSS: https://anchor.fm/s/23775178/podcast/rssWebsite: https://www.decouple.media

Stijn Schmitz welcomes Doomberg to the show. Doomberg is the head writer For The Doomberg Team and creator of the Doomberg Substack. The interview delves into the complex geopolitical landscape, focusing on the transition from a unipolar to a multipolar world, with particular emphasis on the rising power of China and the potential decline of the United States. Doomberg argues that the world is effectively in the early stages of World War III, which began around 2014, characterized by economic and strategic conflicts between the Western-based financial system and the emerging global south led by China and BRICS countries. A significant part of the discussion centers on technological transformation, particularly artificial intelligence (AI). Doomberg highlights the rapid acceleration of AI capabilities, with the doubling time of technological advancement potentially shrinking to weeks. He suggests that AI and robotics could fundamentally reshape geopolitical dynamics, potentially mitigating demographic challenges for countries like China. The conversation also explores critical mineral dynamics, energy markets, and the potential for de-dollarization. Doomberg believes there is substantial room for gold to appreciate as a neutral reserve asset, potentially reaching prices around $5,000 to $21,000 per ounce to rejuvenate US manufacturing and global trade settlements. Regarding the United States’ future, Doomberg remains cautiously optimistic. He argues that despite current challenges, the US has significant advantages, including being the world’s largest energy producer, advanced AI capabilities, and substantial natural resources. However, he emphasizes the importance of strategic focus and avoiding resource-draining international conflicts. Lastly the conversation touches on Europe’s diminishing global relevance, primarily due to its energy dependence and lack of industrial capacity. Doomberg suggests the European Union is already experiencing structural challenges that could potentially lead to its fragmentation. Ultimately, Doomberg presents a nuanced view of global power dynamics, emphasizing technological innovation, energy resources, and strategic adaptability as key factors in determining future geopolitical landscapes. Doomberg explains why oil markets barely reacted to Venezuela's political shock — and why that calm is misleading. He breaks down how oversupply is capping oil prices, why Venezuela's return is bearish long-term, and how U.S., China, and energy supermajors are quietly reshaping the oil map. We also cover Iran, Middle East tensions, Starlink, and why markets aren't pricing war, plus why Europe's energy weakness is becoming a strategic liability.------------
Doomberg is an independent, widely distributed publication that delivers provocative articles derived from their lateral-thinking approach to energy, finance, and geopolitics. The current state of the global oil and gas markets, including the “glut” or oversupply of oil and gas, and the factors contributing to this situation, such as the rise of shale production in the US.2. The potential impact of the political situation in Venezuela on the oil and gas industry, including the challenges of restoring production and the legal/financial claims against Venezuela's oil assets.3. As we're talking today... Newcastle coal, 107 bucks a million BTU, that's doing nothing. Landed LNG in Europe is 963. Henry Hub natural gas is about three-quarters of a Big Mac, and an ounce of silver will buy you a barrel of oil and some change.” - DoombergThis quote highlights the current oversupply and low prices across various energy commodities.2. “China has been buying a million extra barrels a day all year for most of 2025 and stuffing it into their strategic reserves.” - DoombergThis quote suggests China is aggressively building up its strategic oil reserves, which could impact future oil market dynamics.3. “If natural gas were to spike on AI demand, say, you could see drillers drilling for gas and dumping the crude oil onto the market, the way they're drilling for crude oil and dumping the gas onto the markets now, if that ever pivots.” - DoombergThis quote discusses the potential for producers to shift their focus between oil and gas production in response to market conditions.4. “There is no such thing as a Republican in D.C. There's the uniparty. There's Mega on the right, and Bernie on the left. And the middle is the same party. Look, there is no distinction between Mitch McConnell and Chuck Schumer, I hate to break it to you. It's all phony.” - DoombergThis quote expresses a cynical view of the U.S. political system, suggesting there is no meaningful ideological difference between the two major parties.5. “Trump is a disruptor to that. Look, there's a Republican party at the state level and at local levels, but not in D.C. No. Ted Cruz isn't a Republican.” - DoombergThis quote further elaborates on Doomberg's view of Trump as a disruptive force against the established political order in Washington.I am hopeful that we get our elections fixed, but unfortunately, I believe Doomberg is right yet again. The Uni Party is alive and well, and it really saddens me.A shout-out to David Blackmon and his industry leadership and writing. It is an honor to have him share time with Doomberg. We have some more great CEO, and I am getting ready to interview some folks on the Texas ERCOT grid, and we have more articles we are working on. Gavin Newsom's California is a travesty for energy policies, and we can see yet another hit to consumers. The Utility companies are now limited in the profits they can make to rebuild the grid. That will SQUASH investment and get more companies to leave California, and take the jobs with them out of the State. As companies shut down and cut jobs, they also cut tax revenue, and that is going to make the financial crisis brought on by Gavin even worse. His Energy Policies have now become a complete national security risk for the western half of the United States. When you consider the corruption, graft, and greed exemplified during Gavin Newsom's Governorship, it won't be easy to rebuild California after he leaves office.1. The energy policies and challenges in California, particularly the regulation of utility profits and the impact on energy reliability.Michael Tanner and Stuart Turley discuss how California's approach to regulating energy providers like PG&E and Edison differs from other states, leading to issues with grid investment and energy reliability. They contrast California's "top-down" policies with a more collaborative approach in different states.2. The geopolitical tensions and sanctions related to Venezuela and Russia. The hosts discuss the Trump administration's actions to intercept oil tankers related to Venezuela, and the potential motivations behind these moves, such as regime change, protecting Gulf Coast refinery interests, and impacting Russia's war in Ukraine.3. The potential of nuclear fusion as an energy source, and its connection to Trump's media company.Stuart Turley discusses the promise of nuclear fusion technology and how Trump's media company, Truth Social, may be involved in developing or licensing fusion-related patents.4. Stijn Schmitz welcomes Doomberg to the show. Doomberg is Head Writer For The Doomberg Team and Creator of the Doomberg Substack. In this wide-ranging interview, Doomberg offers unique perspectives on global geopolitics, energy markets, and financial trends. Regarding gold, Doomberg views it as a savings vehicle and neutral reserve asset, arguing that its recent price appreciation reflects the declining neutrality of Western financial instruments. The team believes gold is reasserting itself as a critical settlement mechanism in international trade, especially as countries become wary of US dollar-based systems. On energy markets, Doomberg challenges conventional peak oil narratives, asserting that hydrocarbons are plentiful and technological advances continue to make extraction more efficient. They predict a long-term equilibrium oil price around $55 per barrel, driven by natural gas arbitrage opportunities. The United States, in their view, has enormous energy potential that could drive significant economic growth if political challenges are addressed. Geopolitically, Doomberg anticipates significant structural changes, particularly in the European Union. They argue the EU will likely dismantle due to fundamental energy challenges, especially Germany's dismantling of its nuclear power sector and loss of cheap Russian gas.
