It's no secret in the legal community that a seasoned paralegal can outmatch most first-year lawyers. And probably second-year.And sometimes even... well, you get the point. Climbing the career ladder is far from uncommon in the Legal Profession, and when I think back on it, nearly every paralegal we've hired has had some prior job that was at least somewhat legally-adjacent. But what IS rare is for someone to do it all in one place. And when it does happen, you're almost certain to find that mentorship played the deciding factor. My guest this week is Shelly A. Walker, Director of Legal Administration at Posinelli. Prior to joining the management team, Shelly was a paralegal who specialized in Products Liability and Toxic Torts, but her journey began as docket-clerk who - as she puts it - found the right mentor at the right time. This is most certainly a conversation for the Leaders listening in this week, and my hope is that Shelly's story can serve as a reminder why making the time to teach others is a heck of a way to learn about ourselves. Enjoy the show.

I'm a lover of God, His word, His people, tea and dessert, and jazz… In that order. I have been blessed with many passions and gifts, and though I take no credit for them — as they come from the Lord — I do take seriously the responsibility to steward them well and to His glory. Vocationally, I've spent 30 years in Legal Administration, primarily working for corporate law firms, but I am ready to enter this new season of full-time ministry and entrepreneurship. One of the things that I do best is casting vision and bringing it to fruition, which lends itself well to my work as a decorator and event planner. I've been in Women's Ministry for over 15 years, with a passion for sowing the word of God into the hearts of women through discipleship, teaching, writing, and just good godly friendships. Karen Kirkpatrick (@comply4success on twitter) joins host Craig Price to discuss healthcare reform and the Affordable Care Act. With the ACA (or Obamacare for the the layperson) front and center in the news, causing government shutdowns and general confusion among the average American, it's fortunate that last weekend's Association of Legal Administration's Region 4 Conference had Karen there to sort things out. Craig tries to figure out how companies are going to adjust, will the impact be that bad and what changes will hurt/help the most. Karen shows how compliance will be the most important part and that individuals looking for insurance need to shop around. Will Obamacare be another helpful government program or another example of government over-reach. That's yet to be determined but lack of information should be an excuse. Head over to www.healthcare.gov to learn more about the new healthcare reforms. Karen specializes in HR and Benefit laws and her teaching style brings the legalese and government jargon to the audience in an easy/fun fashion. Her parent company Infinisource.com is always updating their newsroom with the latest information and updates http://newsroom.infinisource.com/
