Een jaar lang scheten aandeelhouders van Wolters Kluwer in hun broek voor wat er daar aan zat te komen. Het verdienmodel van het databedrijf zou onderuit gehaald worden door AI-bedrijven die het allemaal beter en sneller gaan kunnen. Waardoor de beurskoers in een jaar tijd met ruim 60 procent daalde. Alleen... dat blijkt nu behoorlijk paniekvoetbal. De kwartaalcijfers laten namelijk een ander beeld zien. Omzet en winst stijgen. En Wolters Kluwer bewijst het ongelijk van beleggers nog even extra: want vooral de cloud-activiteiten groeien hard, met 15 procent. Een afscheid in stijl voor ceo Nancy McKinstry, wiens laatste kwartaal dit was. Deze aflevering kijken we of aandeelhouders die zijn vertrokken, nu reden hebben om terug te keren.Hebben we het ook over een ander beursdrama, maar dan in Denemarken. Dat van Novo Nordisk. De maker van onder meer Ozempic had een voorsprong met hun afvalmedicatie, maar werd keihard ingehaald door de concurrentie. En zag het aandeel zelf op een crashdieet gaan. Van het meest waardevolle Europese beursbedrijf, naar een van de beurslosers. Maar die tijd is misschien wel voorbij, want Novo Nordisk heeft iets verzonnen. 30 jaar celstraf voor de vader die zijn dochter Ryan vermoordde. “Dit was het tragische dieptepunt van een familiegeschiedenis waarin onderdrukking van vrouwen de rode draad vormde,” zegt verslaggever Wietske Koen in een nieuwe aflevering van onze misdaadpodcast Radio Ramkraak. De rechtbank in Lelystad legde deze week forse straffen op aan de vader en broers van Ryan (18) uit Joure. Haar broers werden veroordeeld tot 20 jaar cel voor de moord op hun zus. Haar vader kreeg 30 jaar. “Dit is de hoogste tijdelijke straf die we hebben,” zegt persrechter Marcel Wolters van de rechtbank Noord-Nederland. Vader Khaled al N. (53) laat zijn dochter vastbinden met meters ducttape, om haar daarna te verdrinken in de Oostvaardersplassen bij Lelystad. Hij vlucht daarna naar Syrië waar hij nog steeds verblijft. De zwaarste straf die Nederland kent, levenslang, blijft voor hem buiten beeld. Volgens persrechter Marcel Wolters ligt dat niet persé aan de ernst van de zaak, maar aan hoe de wet is ingericht. “In het algemeen wordt levenslang pas opgelegd als er sprake is van meervoudige moord, of als iemand eerder al iemand heeft gedood,” zegt hij in de podcast. “Er moet iets meervoudigs in zitten.” Ryan groeit op in een streng, traditioneel gezin waarin haar vader de absolute macht heeft Ze weigert een hoofddoek te dragen, draagt spijkerbroeken en heeft een vriendje. Dat was in de ogen van haar familie een schande. “Ryan capituleerde niet, zoals haar zussen” zegt Wietske. “Ze bleef weigeren.” Voor veel mensen voelt de straf misschien als een te lichte straf. Wie zijn eigen dochter laat vermoorden, verdient volgens sommigen nooit meer vrijheid. Maar zelfs die 30 jaar zijn in dit geval bitter symbolisch. Kahled zit in Syrië en Nederland heeft geen uitleveringsverdrag met dat land. “Hij kan daar betrekkelijk veilig verblijven,” zegt Wolters. En dus geldt: een man die zijn dochter liet verdrinken, zal zijn straf waarschijnlijk nooit uitzitten. En wie is de volgende die het Damrak laat voor wat 't is? Dat hoor je in deze aflevering. En dan hebben we het ook over Intel. Het is officieel: de Amerikaanse regering bezit tien procent van het bedrijf. In ruil daarvoor krijgt het de al eerder beloofde subsidie van 9,5 miljard dollar. Maar een saillant detail is dat de chipmaker zelf laat doorschemeren dat het die deal tegen heug en meug gesloten heeft. Het gaat ook nog - alweer - over AI. Apple geeft soort van toe dat het de zaken niet op orde heeft, want het is zelfs bereid om de AI van Google in te kopen om daar Siri eindelijk eens een beetje beter mee te maken. Mike Wolter leads his trio into the Lexington in Saint Paul, next Saturday night, November 23 at 7pm. The performance will lean on the standards, but Mike and company bring experience with many types of jazz to each performance. When Mike talked to Phil Nusbaum, they spoke about different types of tunes and different types of inspirations, including a Wolters original, long part of Winter. That one has a folk influence.

In this week's episode of Every Rockie Ever, Skyler and Dustin convened on a snow day to chat former players that currently work as coaches in the Rockies system. Recently, the Rockies hired former catcher Dustin Garneau as the major league bullpen coach. Despite a career that didn't flourish at the plate, Garneau has been known for solid defense and his work as catching coordinator/game planner for the minor league system the past two years presents some hope for the team's young bullpen. They then turn focus to fan favorite and 2018 Wild Card game hero Tony Wolters. Wolters joined the organization as the bench coach for the ACL Rockies in 2024, and the brothers break down his excellent work behind the plate working with pitches, lamenting that his offense never took off, and getting to the root of why he had the nickname Papers. Finally, they close things out mourning what could have been for current Rockies special assistant Scott Oberg. As Oberg was growing into prominence as a reliever, a recurring blood clot issue in his arm forced an early retirement from baseball, robbing both Oberg and fans of the high-quality reliever he was becoming. Prosecutors launched an immediate appeal of Madeleine McCann kidnapping suspect Christian Brueckner after he was clear of two counts of rape and two counts of indecent exposure in a separate case. Wolters continued: "We believe one of the judges was not open to the possibility of Brueckner being guilty – and they had made their minds up before the case even started.
