Crooked Table Podcast - The world of film from a fresh angle
In Episode 62 of the Crooked Table Podcast, Robert Yaniz Jr. and Freddy Yaniz stroll down the dark alleys of Hell's Kitchen for their long-awaited in-depth discussion of Marvel's The Defenders. Which Marvel Netflix show is their favorite one to date, and how does this team-up miniseries build upon the narrative threads and character journeys set forth in Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist? We'll get into all that and so much more, including where we're hoping to see the Netflix branch of the Marvel Cinematic Universe travel next. Synopsis courtesy of Netflix: Marvel's The Defenders follows Daredevil AKA Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Iron Fist AKA Danny Rand (Finn Jones), a quartet of singular heroes with one common goal – to save New York City. This is the story of four solitary figures, burdened with their own personal challenges, who reluctantly realize they just might be stronger when teamed together. Marvel's The Defenders is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios for Netflix. We're excited to hear your feedback as the Crooked Table Podcast continues to evolve. As usual, the show does feature explicit language and, as such, is best considered NSFW. Thanks for listening! The gates are open for our The Defenders Episode Seven Review of Fish In The Jailhouse out now with our top five points about this episode in our Spoiler filled discussion. As always make sure you've watched the episode before listening to the podcast. The Defenders Episode Seven Review Podcast Spoiler filled Synopsis Written by: Lauren Schmidt Hissrich and Marco Ramirez Directed by: Félix Enríquez Alcalá In the aftermath of the attack and kidnap of Danny Rand (Finn Jones) by Elektra (Elodie Yung), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), and Luke Cage (Mike Colter) wake up to find themselves in the police precinct as persons of interest in the murders of Sowande (Babs Olusanmokun) and Stick (Scott Glenn). Misty Knight (Simone Missick) is caught between her superiors wanting answers and arrests, and her instinct that something bigger is at play and Luke, Jessica and Matt can help. Elsewhere, Alexandra’s blood dripping body is unceremoniously removed as Elektra explains the new reality to the remaining members of the Hand, who desist from challenging her and agree to let her pursue her goals, hoping that she will grant them access to K’un Lun and the substance. Jones, Murdock, and Cage escape the precinct and go to Midland Circle, and are confronted by Madame Gao (Wai Ching Ho), Murakami (Yutaka Takeuchi) and Bakuto (Ramon Rodriguez). As they battle the Hand with the help of Colleen Wing (Jessica Henwick) (who has another, more explosive, plan for defeating the Hand); another battle rages far beneath the streets of New York where Elektra has taken Danny to the mystical gateway that requires the Iron Fist’s chi to open. As their fight intensifies, Danny learns that Elektra was the one who had attacked K’un Lun, and as Danny’s focus drops she tricks him closer to the door. In the heat of the encounter Elektra uses her sais to redirect the Iron Fist hitting the ornate door that opens, causing a blast that knocks out Danny and the power grid throughout the city. As Danny awakens he discovers that Elektra is nowhere to be found and he rests beneath the skeleton of a defeated dragon - Shou-Lou the Undying. This episode of The Harold & Maudecast's Now Streaming, Marvel The Defenders and BUSHWICK reviews. Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Iron Fist (Finn Jones) team up to stop mysterious and powerful bad guy org, The Hand, from destroying New York in Marvel's The Defenders. Marvel sure knows how to build universes and market them really well. The individual series of each character masterfully set up the convergence of all their worlds in The Defenders. That's about the only impressive thing about this series. The writing is incredibly weak, the acting is uneven and there is very little super hero action for a super hero show. Some cool action packed sequences and a few stand out performances from veteran actor Scott Glenn as Stick, Daredevil's mentor and Charlie Cox as Daredevil saved this from a DOOM rating, barely. 5.8/10 When a Texas military force invades the Brooklyn neighborhood of Bushwick, grad student, Lucy (Brittany Snow) and former marine Stupe (Dave Bautista) must depend on each other to survive. Dave Bautista proves himself worthy of dramatic acting gigs in BUSHWICK. The film directed by Cary Murnion and Jonathan Milott (COOTIES) and written by Nick Damici and Graham Reznick (STAKE LAND), is thrilling and provocative survival story. The story starts out with a literal bang and wastes no time unveiling the plot, which was refreshing. Brittany Snow (PITCH PERFECT) does a nice job with an abrupt character arc as her damsel in distress quickly adapts. The story loses steam about midway through the film when unnecessary and clichéd characters are introduced. The ending is exactly what you'd expect from a film festival darling -- a bummer. Still, Bautista's performance and the excitement of the chase and action sequences are worth it. 6.8/10 For more tv, movie and game reviews visit www.thehmcnetwork.com

On the other side of Harlem by the docks her cousin Cornell Stokes (Mahershala Ali) is preparing to exchange guns from Rafael Scarfe (Frank Whaley) to buy off Domingo Colon (Jacob Vargas) so he can purchase the "Judas bullet" to take Luke Cage (Mike Colter) down! However, Scarfe attempts to leverage Stokes but his plan backfires and he is left critically wounded on the streets of Harlem by Cottonmouth. He is hunted by Stokes and by the NYPD as his dirty past begins to creep up on him. On the run Scarfe seeks refuge at Pop's Barber Shop and help from Luke Cage as he realises his enemy's enemy is his friend and only chance at redemption. As Cage and Temple, with a deteriorating Scarfe, race to One Police Plaza to turn over the evidence and get Scarfe to surgery they are ambushed by mercenaries hired by Stokes. As Misty Knight (Simone Missick) arrives, after uncovering the involvement of Lieutenant Perez (Manny Perez) with Stokes, her partner Rafael Scarfe dies from his injuries. The fall out from Scarfe's notebook is total as Cottonmouth is arrested and his empire crumbles, his cousin Mariah's interview didn't go as planned as her possible involvement in Stokes' actions is revealed her reputation lies in ruins.
