About the guest:     Carolann Ouellette joined the Maine Department of Economic & Community Development (DECD) in September 2018 to lead the newly created Office of Outdoor Recreation. Before her current position, she was the Executive Director of Maine Huts & Trails, a non-profit that operates a hut-to-hut system of four year-round back-country ecolodges and 80 miles of trails that are open to the public, year-round, for hiking, biking, paddling, skiing & snowshoeing. Prior to her time at Maine Huts & Trails, Carolann was Director of the Maine Office of Tourism at DECD. Under her leadership, Maine benefited from multiple years of consistent growth in tourism. A graduate of Cornell University's School of Hotel Administration, Ouellette was the chef/owner of an award-winning Maine restaurant. She has a strong background in outdoor recreation as a former Whitewater Guide and operations manager for New England Outdoor Center, and lodging manager at Sugarloaf Resort. In 2015, she was named by Maine Magazine as one of “50 Mainers Boldly Leading Our State.” Carolann has been involved in many organizations in board or advisory member capacity over the years including U.S. Travel Association, Maine Woods Consortium, Discover New England, Maine Tourism Association and University of Southern Maine School of Tourism & Hospitality. She is a ski, snowmobile, snowshoe, hike and paddle enthusiast. About the guest:   Julene Gervais began her career after completing her master's degree from Emerson College and undergrad at Boston College.  Her first job was at WECT-TV, an NBC affiliate in Wilmington, North Carolina. He joined the company in 1991 as a commercial loan officer after beginning his banking career in the commercial lending department of Casco Bank, the Maine affiliate of the Bank of Boston. An active member of the community, he currently serves on the boards of Maine State Chamber of Commerce, Maine and Company, the Foundation for Maine’s Community Colleges, and Maine International Trade Center. He was previously president of Maine Real Estate Development Association (MEREDA) and a board member of Friends of Casco Bay. As president of Hancock Lumber Company, Kevin Hancock leads a sixth-generation family business that has operated since 1848. Headquartered in Casco, Maine, the company has 10 retail stores and three sawmills, and employs 425 people. The company also owns and manages 12,000 acres of timberland in Cumberland and Oxford counties. In 2014, Timber Processing Magazine recognized Kevin as its forest products industry “Person of the Year.” He is past chairman of the Northeast Retail Lumber Association, 
the National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association and the Bridgton Academy Board of Trustees. Under his leadership, Hancock Lumber has been recognized as the Maine International Trade Center’s Exporter of the Year and the Maine Family Business of the Year. Additionally, the company received the Governor’s Award for Business Excellence and most recently became a 2014 “Best Places to Work” recipient. A graduate of Lake Region High School and Bowdoin College, Kevin travels often to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota, where he has connected with residents and key organizations. Kevin has created a nonprofit called “The Seventh Power” to support initiatives on the reservation and is currently writing a book, titled Not For Sale: Finding Myself in the Land of Crazy Horse, about the history and modern day life of the Oglala Sioux Tribe.
