Worked in commercial real estate and farming in Indiana. Ran for the Indiana State Senate, won. Ran for Congress and won. Just won her primary. She knows the horrors of socialism and communism firsthand and is fighting to make sure it doesn't happen in America. Victoria believes in the American Dream and is fighting to preserve it for her daughters and all of our children. -She understands that Energy Security is National Security. Doesn't want the U.S. Dependent on other countries – Russia or China for our energy. What a great introduction, and I am going to be quite honest – the conversation with Victoria got me a little choked up. It is wonderful to see someone in Washington care about doing the right thing. One of the most successful self-made women in America (according to Forbes) Cordia Harrington joins Tim to talk about her journey and how it exemplifies the American Dream. Cordia is the founder of The Bakery Companies. It's a Nashville-based group of companies that have made baked goods for restaurants and food companies like McDonald's, Five Guys, and Pepperidge Farm. Last year, Forbes Magazine ranked Cordia among America's top 100 Self-Made Women. This episode was first released February 8, 2021. https://traffic.libsyn.com/forcedn/shapingopinion/Encore_-_Cordia_Harrington.mp3 If I were to ask you to define the term, the “American Dream,” your answer may be different than the next person, but there is something that both definitions will have in common. It's the assumption that thanks to the freedoms we enjoy in the United States, thanks to the Constitution that protects our freedoms, we can achieve our dreams so long as we have the right ideas and are willing to do the work. Most people see the American Dream as a set of principles or aspirational ideals that give us the platform to achieve our own individual goals. Democracy, rights, liberty. Through the exercise of these rights, we have the chance to change our place in society and in life. We can be upwardly mobile. We can become more prosperous and successful. And with that, we can provide for our families, our communities and live the life we want. People who study the American Dream say its origins can be traced to the Declaration of Independence, where it says that “all men are created equal,” and that each of us has the right to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” But to better understand the American Dream, it is sometimes good to hear the story of someone who has lived it in a way that few have done. Cordia Harrington is one of those people.  John Disselkamp is the owner of First Class Commercial Cleaning in Louisville, KY.  John was born and raised in Louisville and had a hard-working mentality. This suited him well in his early corporate life and propelled hiim to a bank executive at a young age. John won the prestigious "40 Under 40" Award during this banking stint. In this interview, John shares his transition from corporate to starting a commercial cleaning company in 2016 and growing to six-figures per month in revenue and 50 team members in under 3 years. He then lead his company to $5 million in revenue and 230 team members 3 years later. John is an American Success Story! First Class Revenue StoryYear 1 - $90kYear 2 - $350kYear 3 - $950kYear 4 - $1.4MYear 5 - $2MYear 6 - $2.4MYear 7 - $4.8MYear 8 projected- $9-$10MJohn has accomplished all of this with mental illness. Since childhood, he struggled with mental depression and anxiety. "We were in growth mode and growth sucks cash. We had intentional moves to make sure we could scale a company." John believes that investing into your business is more than just the supplies to fill an office cleaning location. It's in people and in culture. He made sure to keep relationships first, which he learned in corporate, to fuel First Class's culture. John believes that the culture he created is why First Class excelled through Covid and a labor crisis since 2020.He joined the Strategic Coach Program to up his leadership game. John was challenged with the concept of the 4 boxes that is taught in that program. John early career was spent in the box that represents something that you're good at, but don't enjoy. This is where most careers go to die. John wanted fulfillment and has found it in his cleaning company. He's good at it and enjoys it, a rare combination for adults in the working world."What makes a smart person smart or an intelligent person intelligent? It's not knowing what they know. It's knowing what they don't know. And that's always been something that I've taken to heart." "It's a pretty simple business. If you treat people well, you work hard, you do what you say you're gonna do, you're halfway decent at communicating and building relationships... You're better than most and I've still found that to be true 6 1/2 to 7 years later."John had a playbook for how to start a cleaning company and couldn't find it. He was going to St. Loius with his future wife and decided to cold call a local company to see if he could learn from then. He called Spencer Commercial Cleaning and a guy named Scott Bader answered the phone. Scott met with John for over two hours to mentor him. John is so grateful to Scott for helping to launch First Class Commercial Cleaning. John still uses the contract templates, pricing strategy, and a few other systems that Scott has taught him. Read the rest of this article at the Smart Cleaning School website

Chesapeake Bay Retrievers: An American Success Story Betsy Horn Humer has spent a lifetime with Chesapeake Bay Retrievers. Her parents acquired their first dog in 1947 and Betsy has been deeply involved in the breed since childhood. A conformation and obedience/rally judge, Betsy brings tremendous depth and width of experience to her understanding of the sport. "They're very different from the other retrievers," Betsy said. "They're not like Goldens and Labs who love everybody and wanna be your friend. They're much more reserved. They're much more like some of the working breeds -- German Shepherds and Dobermans, Rottweilers. "They have a real work ethic and they're serious. They're much more serious than your average Golden and Labrador. They're not the dog for everyone, especially a first dog. "They're very protective and that's really because of their heritage and why they were originally developed. "They were originally developed on Chesapeake Bay, of course. The story is that there was a shipwreck. There were a couple of dogs on the ship and they swam to the shores. One was named Sailor and one was named Canton. They were not Chesapeakes but they were more like the Saint John's dog. The Labrador also goes back to that particular breed. "They were bred with a couple of the other local hunting dogs and some of the background includes setters and bloodhounds and other retrievers. It's an interesting mix and it does explain why we do have different types of coats and different kinds of hound markings because of the genetics that's actually behind the breed. [caption id="attachment_9536" align="alignleft" width="290"] 2021 National Specialty show- Award of Merit. GCHB Eastern Waters' Pink Power O'MesaRidge, BN RI. Owners/ Breeders - Betsy Horn Humer & Rupert J. Humer[/caption] "The breed was really developed and records were kept by the wealthy land owners who owned property on the Chesapeake Bay and had huge hunting clubs. It was the local marketers, the duck hunters and the water fowlers that used them for hunting back in the late 1800s. "There were no limits on how many ducks you could take and these hunters would take several hundred a day. The Chesapeake would just go out in the Bay and retrieve them all, that was his job. When he wasn't actually swimming and retrieving, his job was to guard the pile of ducks so that nobody else would take them. These ducks were sold to expensive restaurants in Baltimore. They were considered a real treat. "Winters were much colder then. There was ice to be broken. The Chesapeake Bay is huge. I mean you're not talking just like a little lake it is huge. You get tremendous amounts of tides, wind. It can be a very unpleasant place during hunting season. But these hunters, that was how they made their living and that was what they did. "(Chesapeakes) are very strong. They're much stronger than they look. They've got very strong bone. Their coat was developed in order to keep them warm. They have what's referred to as a double coat. There's a very soft undercoat and it's interesting because it's all one hair. The tops of the hair are very coarse and wiry but as you get closer to the skin, the coat is actually very soft and the outside harshness keeps the inside, the other part of it, dry." Be sure to listen in to this wide ranging conversation for more insights on the Chesapeake, judging in the show ring and the obedience ring, dog breeding and more. Support this podcast

In 1984, they bought an existing farm and feed store in Lake Forest that became Pasquesi Home and Farm Suppliers—at a time when Lake Forest had more open lands and farms. When the garden industry started to expand, the business evolved with the customers' changing needs. It became Pasquesi Home & Gardens with more emphasis on gardening. Another store in Barrington was opened in 1988. And, in 2006, the Lake Forest store relocated to a new and larger store in Lake Bluff, in order to give customers a better shopping experience. In 2012, a third "small scale" store was opened in downtown Lake Forest selling select plants, home and garden items. Currently, they operate one full-service store in Lake Bluff. (There are some fun historical photos on our Pinterest page.) The heart of the business grew out of Ed Pasquesi's early interest in plants and ‘growing living things.' The retail gardening business gave Ed and Marie an opportunity to create a family business that seeks to provide exceptional customer service to Chicago's North Shore suburbs. He and his family have been part of the Lake Forest/Lake Bluff community for over 40 years. Mike Pasquesi joined the family business after college in 1992 as manager of the Barrington store before becoming President and General Manager of Pasquesi Home & Gardens. He sums up his philosophy, “We are always challenging ourselves and looking for ways to improve our business. We will never standstill. We are constantly learning and trying new and different things.” Cindy Pasquesi Thorsen joined the family business in 1996 as Director of Human Resources with a background in corporate sales and project planning. At Pasquesi Home and Gardens, her work focuses on employee development. “I mainly focus on recruiting and training employees... Great people help create great experiences, and that will keep the customers coming back.” Lisa Pasquesi came aboard in 2003 with skills in business from the corporate world. She now oversees the Accounting Office and directs the Marketing for Pasquesi's print and web communications. “My main objective is to keep our name and message out there—and we do this through a variety of marketing efforts that show how we think and believe when it comes to our product selections. On this episode of the Sofa King Podcast, we talk about the founders, history, and reputation of bad boys of motorcycles, Harley Davidson. It was started by William S. Harley and Arthur Davidson (and his brothers) in 1903. They wanted to make bicycles that did the work for you. Within a decade, they were one of the leaders of motorcycle manufacturing in the world. Their bikes helped the US battle Poncho Villa, served in WWI, and were sold to all allies in WWII. The whole macho counter-culture vibe of riding a hog belongs to their own marketing. In fact, 5% of their net worth comes from selling their logo, not their bikes! So if you want some history on the inventors, a look at the Harley Davidson corporation (and their hits and misses), or just want to feel like you're in a badass 1% bike club, give this one a listen.   Visit Our Sources https://www.biography.com/business-figure/william-s-harley https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harley-Davidson https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_S._Harley https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_Davidson_(motorcycling) https://www.motorcyclecruiser.com/history-harley-davidson/ https://moneyinc.com/20-things-didnt-know-harley-davidson/ https://www.hotcars.com/20-cool-facts-about-harley-davidson-most-americans-dont-know/

The connected digitally with their customers, so they’re taking sales orders that someone else is paying to input instead of hiring more folks internally. They got control over 7 national warehouses with a pretty complex sales model. They expanded eCommerce, with items appearing on other eTailers websites opening new channels and new market shares. Did all this just happen by ERP magic, No – it’s hard work and you need help from implementation partners such as Nice Link’s go-to, a firm called Net At Work – who if you know ERP you’ve heard of Net At Work over the years as a leading ERP implementation partner – of course ERP is something most companies pay attention to once or maybe twice every decade – but take my word for it, Net At Work is a major player – Jay will speak about them on today’s Episode. Nice Link Home Furnishings was at the right place at the right time when home furnishings kind of took off.

Bobby Hambrick, Founder & CEO, AutonomouStuff and Chief Autonomous Officer, Hexagon joins Grayson Brulte on The Road To Autonomy Podcast to discuss the founding of AutonomouStuff, the acquisition by Hexagon, and why AutonomouStuff is an American success story. The conversation begins with Bobby telling the story of how he founded AutonomouStuff in a barn in his backyard and eventually sold his house and rental properties to scale the company.I was born with this natural innate motivation and this drive to succeed. I have always taken this fearless approach to accomplish whatever task I had on hand. – Bobby HambrickAs the company grew, Bobby reinvested every dollar that the company made back into the company to help it grow. He grew the company without venture capital as he invested in himself and his company. Every month Bobby operated the company it was was profitable. The conversation naturally evolves into SPACs and why companies are going public with little to no revenue and zero profitability. Grayson and Bobby discuss the importance of operating a business that is profitable.Building upon this, Bobby shares an insightful story from when he was interviewing an engineer who did not know how to use tools. This opened his eyes in a meaningful way.Hard work and common sense can get you a long way. To be a successful entrepreneur, being smart is not enough. You have to be able to understand how things work and even more important is the power of the relationships that you have. – Bobby HambrickThe ethic of hard work was ingrained into Bobby during his time growing up in the Midwest. The Midwest historically has had a reputation of hard work. Understanding this, Bobby founded and scaled the company in Morton, Illinois. As Bobby was contemplating selling the company to Hexagon he thought about the following:If I am going to sell to a larger company, I want to take care of the people who helped me. They are like family to me. – Bobby HambrickAs part of the transaction, there was a clause that AutonomouStuff would stay in Morton for good. The impact that AutonomouStuff has had on the town of Morton cannot be measured. It is felt at the dinner table when employees discuss building the future and their travels around the world.CES 2020 was one of those moments when it all came together when Hexagon showcased AutonomouStuff right next to the Google installation. Bobby goes on to explain that is merely just the beginning for AutonomouStuff. With the resources of Hexagon, the future is extremely bright for AutonomouStuff. While the future is bright for AutonomouStuff, the rest of the industry is going through growing pains. This is marathon This is not a sprint to whoever can show the best concept of driving around in the urban area. This is a serious business, people are spending billions of dollars and now they are realizing that it is not that easy. This is probably one of the biggest engineering challenges of mankind. – Bobby HambrickClosing out the conversation, Bobby shares his advice for entrepreneurs who want to start their own business while staying true to their roots.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Elena Cardone is known to many as the Queen of the Cardone Empire. She and her husband Grant Cardone have the kind of success some people dream of for themselves while others view as impossible. They are both respected and envied - sought after by those who understand the possibility and potential they represent and offer, while frowned upon by those who misunderstand the purpose behind their massive success. Neither Elena nor her husband make an effort to hide their wealth or their success. Rather, they have expanded their empire by teaching others how to emulate their success, both personally and professionally. Still, there are sides to this power couple that can be overlooked. Elena took the time to share the very personal side of their purpose and the enormous struggles she and her husband faced along their paths. From childhood traumas to costly mistakes, it is a testament to them both that they persevered and achieved what they have. Deeply patriotic and equally charitable, Elena Cardone is a force in her own right. Watch this Interview with Elena Cardone on YouTubeFollow us on Instagram:@americansnippets@barballenspeaks@davebrownliveiTunes Not Your Thing? wwww.americansnippets.com

I heard today’s guest, Olenka Cullinan, speak at an event recently and I just knew her story had to be shared with this audience. In a nutshell, this entrepreneurial powerhouse left Russia at age 19 with only $450 to her name (that she borrowed from her uncle) determined to seize the American dream and build anything she wanted. While growing up in an entrepreneurial household (her mom was a die-hard entrepreneur with her own company), she chose to pursue education instead in an effort to distance herself from the entrepreneurial world. Once in the U.S., she worked three jobs at one point to complete her education degree (and completed it without owing a cent!).   While Olenka loved teaching people, she soon felt the pull to do more and leapt back into the entrepreneurial world while combining it with her training in education. She may have started off with humble beginnings, but she has since used the skills she knew she had and BUILT her own success. Olenka is determined to help others discover their passions and now teaches teenagers the skills to become successful entrepreneurs in her Rising Tycoons Academy. She truly believes in helping this country’s youth turn their dreams into a dream life. I already know I’ll be applying the principles she taught in this episode to my children down the road. Be sure to tune in to find out how you can too. --   Question Highlights:   Why didn’t you choose to be an entrepreneur right away when you came to the U.S.?   What is the opportunity landscape here in the U.S. compared to where you came from?   Do you believe there is an immigrant edge that gives you a leg up in terms of grit and hard work?   What is Rising Tycoons?   Where can adults do a better job in creating kid tycoons?   What is a “passionista?”   What is holding people back the most when it comes to pursuing their passionista journey?   Do you see teens struggle with the same limiting beliefs that adults struggle with when it comes to earning money?   How do you want your daughter to view money and success when she grows up?     In This Episode You Will Learn:   How Russian-born Olenka became an entrepreneur living the American dream   How nothing is required outside of your own mindset and skills to build success   Why opportunity is wide open for everyone   Why it’s so important to look at the actions that lead to results   How Olenka teaches teens success skills in entrepreneurship, leadership and personal development   Why parents must educate themselves on the world around their kids   Why it’s imperative that we stop preparing and start doing   And so much more…   Olenka’s Thoughts…   “If skills are learnable, then success is learnable, too.”   “Comfort and execution don’t live on the same block.”   “You always choose. You can look at any circumstance in your life and choose what it becomes. Is it going to become an excuse or an opportunity? Because you can’t have both at the same time.”   “We can only change the country by changing the next generation.”   “Stop preparing and start doing.”   “You have to practice the unsexy routine to get anywhere, but you have to give yourself small pieces of ‘candy’ along the way to remind yourself why you’re doing that.”   “Kids have no issues with having dreams. They only have issues finding pathways for those dreams.”   “The moment you stop looking at money as something to move you forward and start looking at it as something that creates love in your community, family and in the world around you, is when you’ll change your perspective.”   --   Olenka Cullinan is a CEO and Founder of Rising Tycoons, where she turns teens into mindful tycoons. Speaker and Success coach, Olenka has developed a “Backbone of Success”™ method that helps leaders become successful in life and the world. Olenka’s work with teenagers from 21 countries, combined with humor and personal experiences led to her recent appearances at TEDx (twice) and made her into one of the nation’s premier coaches. She has worked with startups, corporate leaders and some of the top youth organizations in the country: e.g. National Association of Secondary School Principals, National Association of Student Councils, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, TEDx, Job Corps, & Rotary Youth. Rising Tycoons Academies (RTA) program offers hands-on, real-world training, preparing a new generation of aspiring values-based entrepreneurial Leaders.   Resources:   olenkacullinan.com   Go to OlenkaCullinan.com/fire to receive Olenka’s free eBook: “Stop Preparing. You may have heard of Thrive Market (think Whole Foods meets Costco), but you may not have heard of it’s co-founder and co-CEO, Nick Green.  Nick started Thrive as a wholesale buying club with a mission to make healthy living easy and affordable for every American family. It was a risky venture, since nothing like it had ever before been attempted. Using some unique and innovative strategies that we talk about during the podcast, it has completely revolutionized the non GMO and organic food landscape as it currently offers the 4,000 most popular natural and organic products in the world at 25-50% off retail, shipped anywhere in the U.S. for free. For every paid member on the site, the company also sponsors a free membership for a low-income family. Prior to co-founding Thrive, Nick was the founder and CEO of Ivy Insiders, an education company that made college test prep more affordable and helped over 20,000 students get into better colleges before being acquired by Revolution Prep in 2010. The story of the original intent, initial growth, build-up, and current leadership model and structure at Thrive is both compelling and inspiring, especially when told right from the mouth of it’s founder. In our hour together, Nick was as transparent as he was generous, holding nothing back, willing to share all of the “secrets” of his success. There is a lot in this podcast… from the beginnings when he was packing and shipping things from his own garage… to today with hundreds of employees and massive warehouse space. Nick’s is a story of inspiration, turning dreams into reality, believing in yourself in spite of what others say or think, of hard work and perspiration, transparency, integrity, family, and fun. It’s a genuine success story that has already had an incredibly profound impact on the availability of healthy food options in this country. I know you’ll love this episode.  Enjoy!

If you ride bikes and have a thing for high-quality gear, you already know ENVE. But you almost certainly don’t know the whole story. You’d never guess from the look of things now, but ENVE’s trajectory wasn't exactly a rocket ship, but more of a roller coaster ride with lots of peaks and a number of nerve-wracking valleys.Last week I headed to Ogden, Utah, to visit ENVE’s headquarters and tour their factory, and I then sat down for a conversation with three people who have each have played (and continue to play) an important role in ENVE’s past, present, and future: ENVE’s CEO, Sarah Lehman; ENVE’s chief engineer Kevin Nelson; and ENVE’s product manager, Jake Pantone.TOPICS & TIMES:Our guests introduce themselves, and we discuss the origins and the early days of ENVE (3:25)Sarah on the “Cinderella story” of ENVE, including the dark days, name changes, and the decision to keep manufacturing in the US (6:20)Why carbon, and what does it mean to “Do carbon right”?
