In this episode of Embodied, Fire Captain Mike Sears shares his journey from trauma to healing, showing first responders how trust and resilience can transform their lives. How do we begin to trust ourselves when life demands we suppress our emotions? This question is at the heart of my conversation with Mike Sears, a Halifax Fire Captain, peer support advocate, and founder of Fight4Life. A firefighter for over two decades, Mike shares his journey of reconnecting with his body after emotional numbness, offering profound lessons in trust, healing, and transformation. On Embodied, Mike talks about navigating the intense demands of firefighting, where vulnerability often takes a backseat to survival. After a breaking point left him physically and emotionally drained, he attended the BC Firefighter Resiliency Program, where he processed years of stored trauma and rediscovered what he calls a sense of “body calm.” In our conversation, we explore: How suppressed emotions manifest in the body as physical symptoms. The courage it takes to step back and prioritize healing. Why vulnerability can be a profound strength, even in high-stakes professions. How reconnecting with sensitivity transforms not only individuals but entire communities. Mike's story powerfully reminds us that healing begins when we allow ourselves to feel. “If you're asking whether you need help, you've probably needed it for a while,” he reflected. His openness and courage inspire us to embrace our journeys with trust and compassion.
Just in time for St Patrick's Day
We have a really special episode here for you. Not only do we give you our usual fun and loving discussions but we have writer of the episode Mike Sears! His stories and experiences are a delight to learn about. Facebook.com/ZoobileeZooPod Twitter.com/ZoobileeZooPod Instagram.com/ZoobileeZooPod TikTok.com/@ZoobileeZooPod
Mike has had experiences of the paranormal most of his life. Starting at a very young age of 5 when he saw his first spirit/ghost of a little girl appearing in his bedroom when he lived in Upstate New York. Mike has had other occurrences through his life that happened but nothing like the two he experienced in 1994 in Melbourne, Florida. This event became a life changing for Mike and put him in the direction to seek out answers about the Afterlife. From these experiences it fueled his passion to learn more about the paranormal field. In 2006 Mike joined a Paranormal Investigating Team in Middle Tennessee with his wife Monique. During that time, he learned the various ways of investigating and to be able to help others understand what they might be experiencing. Mike has been Investigating the Paranormal since 2006 and has worked with various paranormal teams in the Middle Tennessee area. After working with the teams and learning various techniques investigating the Paranormal, Mike started his own team in the spring of 2009 known as Volunteer State Paranormal Research.
In our latest episode we celebrate October with some pumpkins: The Smashing Pumpkins! And we're joined by the one and only Mike Sears from the Speak Ya Clout Podcast! We discuss the Pumpkins' 1993 album Siamese Dream as well as glam metal versus grunge, Edwin's favorite rock song from the 90s, Jimmy Chamberlin's drumming, the orgiastic splendor of the “Today” video, Billy Corgan getting jilted by Courtney Love, shaving your head when you may have a receding hairline, and what does Eric think of this album?? Pavement might not give a fuck, but we sure as hell do…!!!
As a society we've been able to shed some of the stigma surrounding mental health and wellness in our communities. But that work is far from over. There are men and women who work as emergency responders who may be struggling who also may not be comfortable talking about it with friends and family. And managing the work-related trauma in their lives can be a daunting task. There's a group working to ensure first responders and their families have the support they need to understand, navigate and manage the potential for that trauma and it's impact. The First Responders Steering Committee is putting together a conference to provide a space to bring these workers and volunteers, along with their employers and managers, to network. They'll also be given a chance to hear from experts in the field of mental health and traumatic psychological injury. Mike Sears is a Captain with Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency. He is also involved with the steering committee working at putting on the conference that will happen in Halifax on September 13th and 14th. He is working hard at the goals to help save lives and eliminate stigma for fire, police, corrections, paramedic and other emergency responders and their families.
Mike Sears is the Director and lead investigator of Volunteer State Paranormal Research.Growing up, he had paranormal experiences. While in Melbourne, Florida, he had a very vivid experience hat set him on the path to learning more about the possibility of life after death. As a paranormal investigator, Sears has investigated Waverly Hills Sanatorium in Louisville, Kentucky, and Sloss Furnace in Birmingham, Alabama. Sears has won a Best in Spirit Photography award from the International Paranormal Acknowledgement Awards.Websitevsparanormal.com
