What is custodial interference and how is this used to keep one parent away from another? In this episode of the Modern Divorce Podcast Host Billie Tarascio, along with Modern Law contributor (and mom) Nancy Conrad, discuss in depth a unique custodial interference case from Arizona, where a teenage son, Blaze Thibaudeau, was abruptly taken out of state and into the wilderness by his mother. The case was unusual because it involved a potential harm to the child due to the mother's belief in an impending apocalypse. The father's lawyer successfully argued that the teen was in immediate and irreparable harm, leading to an arrest warrant and charges being filed. That allowed the FBI to step in and arrest the mother as she tried to enter Alaska through Canada. This particular case is compared to two other outrageous custodial interference cases that Billie has worked on. For anyone concerned about their child's safety around the other parent, and worrying about whether their child will be "kidnapped" by family, this is a must-listen for what to do, when to do it, and how to make it happen.
In this episode of the Employment Law Counselor, hosted by Jeff Stewart in collaboration with Professional Liability Underwriting Society, Jeff is joined by Nancy Conrad, Managing Partner, Lehigh Valley Office, for a discussion about how a new lawsuit is assessed and handled in the first days after receiving the case. They look at how different parties – a business, an attorney and an insurance company – work together to gather information and create an initial plan.
Cinderella's wicked stepmom may have set the mold for the concept of bad step parents, but the reality is, once a mom and dad are divorced and repartnered with a new step parent, it's possible to work out the daily issues once everyone understands how to stay in their own lane. But do they?In today's Modern Divorce Podcast, host Billie Tarascio joins her mom Nancy Conrad to discuss the daily push and pull of step parents after divorce, and to identify when to get help from an attorney when things get bad. It's all about YOUR questions that have come in on the Modern Divorce Facebook group, and on TikTok from frustrated moms and dads wondering how the heck to manage that step parent that they didn't choose, and maybe didn't want.To jump in on the discussion, join the Modern Divorce Facebook group where you'll be able to share, cry, moan and ask any questions that have to do with your divorce, and we'll do our best to answer them!

In this episode, you'll hear about the future of the role of teachers in schools across America, insights on dramatically redesigning the learning experience around the key stakeholders―the students―and some strategies all teachers should use. The episode begins with “Amy's Thoughts,” presented by host Amy Valentine (0:37). She shares insights on the future of teachers―what can American educators expect as the profession evolves along with the K-12 system? The importance of teachers has never been more visible than during this period of widespread remote learning. Then, in the featured interview (2:59), Amy welcomes Nancy Conrad, founding chair of the Conrad Foundation. The Foundation has run the annual Conrad Challenge―an innovation and entrepreneurship competition for 13-18 year old students―for the past 15 years. Nancy explains that we need to accept what we don't know about the future, but at the same time seize the opportunity to create a new, better system for students. She explains how the “consumer” of education―the students―are the stakeholders who are never invited to the table and why we need to change this dynamic, and shares a number of key ideas about redesigning schools. Following the interview, this episode's Research Insight (17:46) indicates that most teachers don't yet feel comfortable integrating high-touch technology into instruction, but would like to receive training on how to do so. It's important to close this gap. Then, Jackson Caves, an Oklahoma State University student and Future of School scholarship winner, describes what online learning has meant to him (18:28). Even though he grew up in a small town and graduated in a high school class of fewer than 50 students, online courses gave Jackson the opportunity to get a head start on college coursework. The episode concludes with the “5-in-5” interview with Alejandro De La Peña (20:17), a rapid-fire session in which Alejandro gives a teacher's perspective on some of today's most important topics. Alejandro is a middle school special education teacher in El Paso, Texas. He talks about the way iPads have become the “staple of sped,” how surprisingly natural it can feel to teach and learn in an online environment, why his one big dream in education would be to better compensate teachers, and more. It all started when… The Conrad Foundation honors the legacy of Apollo 12 astronaut, Charles “Pete” Conrad, and his four-decade passion for innovation and entrepreneurship. Pete spent 20 years as a U.S. Navy Test Pilot and NASA Astronaut. In November 1969, he became the third man to walk on the Moon. After many years as an aerospace explorer, Pete’s entrepreneurial spirit took flight. He founded four companies devoted to the commercialization of space travel. Unfortunately, Pete’s pursuits were cut short with his passing in 1999. Nancy Conrad, Pete’s wife, shared his passion for inspiring future explorers, often working hand-in-hand with him prior to his death to launch his numerous commercial space businesses. In his passing, Nancy knew she wanted to keep Pete’s spirit for innovation and entrepreneurship alive, but targeted to the next generation of explorers. 15 years ago, this former high school teacher launched the Conrad Foundation and its flagship program, the Conrad Challenge, encouraging students to Get Your Genius On™. Since then, she has become a recognized leader in transformative education, testifying before the U.S. Congress and speaking at global conferences. She is dedicated to energizing and engaging students in STEM fields through unique entrepreneurial opportunities. Going into our 15th year, the Conrad Foundation continues to be the only organization of its kind whose programs combine science and technology-based education, innovation and entrepreneurship to inspire solutions for achieving global sustainability. Mark W. Travis explores the intricacies of the award-winning documentary CITY ON THE HILL, directed by Xavier Underwood. ABOUT THE FILM: Tech giant Google has pledged $1 billion to build more housing in the Bay Area. The plan includes 15,000 units on its own land, 5,000 additional affordable units over the next decade, and $50 million in grants to help non-profits who are combating homelessness and displacement. The Bay Area currently has the third-largest homeless population in the U.S. at more than 28,000 people. In City On the Hill, Xavier Underwood & Adam Fleishman (Emmy®-winning Cinematographer ‘Running with Horses’) head west to San Francisco, California to examine the residual effects of the tech boom, what made San Francisco into the great city it is, and what can be done to save it’s increasingly displaced population, interviewing civil rights leaders, politicians, Bay-Area natives, and small business owners. Directed and produced by Underwood, this perceptive film exposés of the realities of gentrification in San Francisco, CA, home to the highest housing costs in the country. Underwood interviews a variety of insiders, including Secretary Benjamin S. Carson, U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development; Rev. Dr. Amos C. Brown, long time civil rights activist and president of the San Francisco branch of the NAACP; Miguel Bustos, Senior Director, Center for Social Justice | Glide Foundation; Nancy Conrad, wife of Legendary Astronaut Pete Conrad; Jessica Donig, Executive Director of San Francisco-based Miracle Messages; Bay-Area natives and small-business owners who progressively face harsh realities. City On the Hill is the second documentary by production house Howard Stirk Holdings, who made the 2015 primetime special A Breath of Fresh Air, which launched Dr. Ben Carson’s 2016 Presidential Campaign. City On the Hill was directed and produced by Xavier Underwood: filmed and edited by Adam Fleishman; executive producer, Armstrong Williams.
